Half-brick or hardware error? - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Recently I upgrade my HTC Legend to CM10 and swapped it for my wife's alternate phone LG P500 as it has some "need force" buttons.
It was already rooted, so I thought of trying my hand at upgrading the P500's ROM as well and see if I could keep it as a backup of sorts.
So below is the chronological sequence of events:
1. Installed CWM via Playstore and placed CM10.2 + CWM6 on SD card.
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Installed CWM6
4. Reboot to recovery
5. Wipe system, install CM10.2 zip
6. Seems to run fine for a while, though some apps kept force-closing
7. While configuring, the phone suddenly rebooted and got stuck at the LG screen
8. Couldn't even load recovery after that, could only go into emergency mode
9. Tried many ways of reflashing CWM/baseband/ROM via LGMDP and KDZ but it wouldn't work
10. During on the many runs, I downgraded baseband to 10E, and then used LG's official tool to perform an upgrade recovery (which also hung during one of the reboots of the phone - still LG screen), then tried to flash an extracted DZ using LGMDP/KDZ, and then back to LG's tool to perform a software upgrade
11. Viola! Android now boots, but now my SIM card refuses to work. Tried switching between different basebands V10E and V20G, but it remains stuck in airplane mode.
12. Today I realised that the Baseband Version as shown in the hidden menu always remains AMSS6150 regardless of whether I flashed V10E or V20G.
Can anyone give me some clues?

After some days of trying again and again, this is how I solved it.
1. Downgraded to official v10e firmware via the official LG tool
2. Reboot into recovery, and used LGMDP to flash this NV2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22671293&postcount=52)
3. Reboot into recovery, and used official LG tool to perform Upgrade Recovery (provided model LG-P500 and my S/N)
4. After upgrade complete, reboot, placed SIM card, checked the IMEI and it's the correct/matching IMEI of my phone, and GSM/WCDMA now works!
Only thing I'm not too sure as I didn't note it down is: are the WIFI and BT addresses overwritten by the NV2 provided in step 2, or did the LG official recovery set the WIFI and BT address back to what it was supposed to be?

Full backup and restore

hi everyone,
I have a LG Optimus Black (P970) but I'm using this subforum and not the subforum for my phone because this a general thing, or at least the most of it.
I want to "play" with custom rom's and custom kernels. But I'm afraid because the warranty. So I have a few questions.
1. How to backup the stock rom, the stock kernel and stock recovery image?
2. How to restore this backup so that if I have to send my phone to the warranty, I wont have any problem and LG wont find out that I flashed a custom rom/kernel/recovery.
3. I saw that if I install a recovery rom and then install a custom rom, after each boot, the recovery image e flashed with the stock one (/system/recovery.img). Is this true?
4. I saw a tutorial to install the stock rom:
1. Download LG Mobile Updater (http://www.lg.com/de/support/mc-supp...p?countryCd=de)
2. Install Mobile Updater
3. Remove Battery from the phone and plug it to the Computer while Holding Vol-Up Button. Display should now show S/W Upgrade
4. Start the Mobile Updater, if needed install USB-Drivers
5. In the Menu of the Mobile Updater choose Customer Service -> Emergency Repair
6. Enter the IMEI of your Phone when the Updater asks for it and click Check
7. The Phone gets now reflashed. All Partitions except the Data Partition will be reflashed. This will install the stock rom, the stock kernel and stock recovery image? And this will be like a fail safe? For an exemple, if I brick my phone, I can always use this and revert any changes and unbrick my phone?
Thanks for all the help you can give me.

Nexus S won't boot to OS

I have the Nexus S from Telus.
It was rooted, unlocked, running CM7. However I've been having issues with it freezing and decided I want to go back to the stock rom.
I ended up downloading what I thought was stock ROM for my phone (Stock GRH78 Nandroid Backup in this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093) however after it flashed my phone, I ended up with a phone which was essentially stuck in Airplane mode, would not connect to Telus. I'm guessing that it has the wrong radio for my phone/carrier?
So then I ended up finding a zip file someone posted Stock-GRJ22-i9020A-unsigned which should have worked, I ended up flashing the zip file from recovery.
It said it installed fine. Rebooted, and now the phone just cycles the Samsung Loading screen endlessly.
I tried to go back to recovery, and it gives me yellow triangle with !.
Is there any way to flash the recovery image back to the phone?
I plug the phone in and the PC won't recognize a device.
I installed the Android SDK
Ran the command adb devices, no devices attached to the PC.
I tried fastboot devices - blank
I don't know how I'll be able to get files back onto the phone SD Card for flashing etc...
I had the exact problem two days ago...flashed an image that jacked my phone up. Wouldn't boot past the google logo. Sat there indefinitely.
Read this thread and see if you can get it work. In a nutshell, you need the PDA net drivers installed. Since PDA net can't install the app on your phone (because it's not booted into an OS) leave the install program in limbo and voila, fast boot will work. From there, push the recovery.img (google Clockworkmod recovery image), boot into recovery and you are off to the races.
This is, of course, assuming you already have a ROM image on your internal SD card you can flash to get back up and running. I'm not sure how to install a .zip image ROM if you can't gain access to your SD card.

Good luck, I know the feeling. It blows.
Ah, just found out how to install a file on a phone that won't boot.
You do need to flash CWM recovery first though.

Good news! I tried a factory reset/data wipe and rebooted the phone.
It doesn't hang anymore, all functions restored and the phone is working on Telus again!
I guess I had to format data, clear cache, before the flash of the rom.
So relieved.
Issue has been solved!

selecting Clockworkmod recovery results in factory data reset of system

The Problem:
When I select Clockwork Recovery Mod from the three button process, the phone reboots and the entire system gets a factory data reset.
What did I do wrong?
My mobile is rooted and running a Jelly Bean Rom. I did a Factory Data Reset from the system i.e. from within android not from Clockworkmod recovery menu and since then this problem has occured. It appears that factory data reset command is stuck somewhere in the boot.
Current Condition:
The Mobile is running perfectly fine without any problems. I can reboot and turn off the phone and it will load Android Jelly Bean Rom smoothly. The problem only happens when I try to access Clockworkmod recovery.
Solutions tried so far
I tried to reflash Clockworkmod image update from Mobile Uncle MKT tools, it rebooted the mobile and did a factory data reset of the system. The same thing happens no matter how many times I try.
I couldn't reflash Clockworkmod using rom manager as it does not recognize by device.
Was it working fine before?
Yes Clockworkmod was working absolutely perfect. I installed various roms from it and did backup of stock rom and even twice restored the stock rom.
Phone Specifications:
It is a local variant of a phone found in Germany going by the name of Mobistel Cynus T2 and as Micromax A110 Canvas 2 in India.
Would greatly appreciate any help.
You will be OK
Not psychic, but I think you loaded an incompatable version of CWM and then flashed, a buddy of mine just went through this, he didn't pay close enough attention or maybe its just some weird stuff in the universe-HA!
Ok, you are probably in recurring boot cycle, if you can get phone into boot mode, you know the combination of keys to be able to flash something!
Get to your computer and find the original OS that it came with out of the box, it will be a large download, it could be anywhere from 480 meg to darn near a gig.
Go get Odin 3.07 is the latest I think, anyway use Odin to flash the original OS. Start from out of the box fresh. It wouldn't hurt to stop by the play store after set up and get Triangle Away, it gets rid of the counter that is tripped when a custom rom is flashed.
Good Luck.
Fixed
1). Download the Stock Recovery Rom and CWM recovery Rom for Qmobile Noir A10 from here.
2). Download Mobile Uncle Tool from Play Store.
3). Rename the Stock Recovery Rom to "Recovery.img" and place it on the root of the SD Storage.
4). Open Mobile Uncle, grant it super user access and from its menu select Recovery Update.
5). Then select the Recovery.img (mentioned under the SD Card header), after which Mobile Uncle tool will prompt for a "Reboot in Recovery Mode" to which yes should be selected. If you have accidently selected "no" then you can select Reboot in Recovery from the main menu of the tool.
6). After the Reboot the mobile may not enter into Stock Recovery Mode and instead perform a Factory Data Erase of the android system so don't panic and repeat steps from 2-5. It happened with me therefore I am mentioning it here.
7). After you have successfully entered the stock recovery mode, reboot you mobile phone and let it load the Android Operating System.
8). Now rename the CWM Recovery Rom to "Recovery.img" and using it replace Stock Recovery Rom, mentioned in step 3, on the mobile's SD Card.
9). Open Mobile Uncle Tool again and repeat step no.5.
10). Upon reboot, your phone will be in CWM recovery mode.
Now do the robot dance and look like an idiot.

[Q] Trouble after ClockworkModRecovery restore

Hi
I have a Samsung Skyrocket, which had ATT jellybean installed on it (upgraded from ICS via kies).
1.Had trouble with the phone (missing apps/ apps not installed error etc)
2. Went to ATT to have it reflashed , ATT store reflashed it to ICS
3. Flashed CWM Recovery and SuperSU, both successful
4. Took a nandroid backup via CWM
5.Upgraded to JB via kies.
6.Took a nandroid backup via CWM
7.Phone was working fine
8. I went into recovery and formatted /cache , /data , / System (don't ask me why it was a random though)
9. Phone did not have a OS, so just got the samsung Log.
10. Went into CWM recovery and restored back to JB backup I had
11. Phone just rebooted frequently, (samsung logo. samsung log, ATT log, Reboot sequence)
12. Then I went ahead and restored the ICS bacup I had (from Step 4)
13. Phone now works, but
a) Does not Reboot ( I have to pull the battery)
b) I tried to upgrade the phone to JB via kies now, I get an error "Your device's current firmware is not supported to update firmware via kies"
The Firmware version which kies is showing "PDA:LI3 / PHONE MC1 / CSC:LI3 (ATT)" which is not what I had initially before restore.
c) When I hit "Firmware upgrade and initialization" in kies, now it says "SGH-I727" does not support initialization.
Sorry for the long post.
What went wrong here ?
After 13, I wiped system, cache, data and restored ICS again but same issue.
Why is restore not restoring to what it was (or is this how it works ?)
Thanks a lot
Try to odin stock ics. Re-booting with out an os is not a good thing and you may have messed up big time.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
You have to open KIES without your phone plugged in and hit tools---->firmware upgrade and initialization. Once you open that type SGH-I727(all caps) for your model, then type in your serial number which you will find on the phone behind your battery. Then just go through the whole process and you should have a fully stock and working phone. Then just re-root and do whatever you want with it. And just try not to screw it up again lol
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot
I flashed the firmware thru Kies again (using triplexkush method) and it worked

[Completed] Note 4 recovery capped

I am having some serious troubles with upgrading my Galaxy Note 4 SM-910P (Sprint). All was well in rooting, un-rooting, etc... I have the original 4.4.4 and the new 5.0 backed up and now I can't use anything other than the firmware the original firmware package through Odin. The problem started when I installed the [ROM]ViSiON-X N4 SPR 5.0.1 [Android L 5.0][N910PVPU1BOB7-R1][03-11-15]. It installed fine but when ever I was not watching it a problem occurred such as getting locked out of ny ext SD, or just plain un-rooting itself. It finally came down to it just kicked my device into download mode and would not reboot. I did used chains Odin root method and installed TWRP, which I can still do but can not flash or restore from TWRP or CWM recovery. It will take the firmware package fine and download the 5.0 update but always gets stopped from any other upgrade at recovery be it stock or custom. I have even used Kies to try and upgrade a few time. It will upgrade from NK1 to NK2 but still will not upgrade anything else past recovery. Every time I reboot I lose my WIFI password. After every boot it takes a minute for any network to be able to reach the device. It is paused until I re enter my WiFi password then it will say that Android is done upgrading and there is a toast message that says "device is set to factory mode some items won't work on this mode set device to user mode". Can someone please tell me how to set my device to user mode or erase what ever is lockled in my device between download and recovery. The issue I described with the device wanting to stay in download mode and how to handle it is described her http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59372208&postcount=3 but as I mentioned I can't get passed anything that is not firmware through Odin. If I had to be locked in one version forever I would have preferred it be 5.0
I figured it out

I fianlly figured out the deal with TWRP not flashing.
The change between file systems is what TWRP won't flash.
To flash into the new, the old, or back up property check the file type.
Ext 2, Ext 4, F2FS, etc ...
To get recovery to load install from odin with auto boot disabled, remove battery, than vol + - menu and power.
the steps below..
1. Power off (complete) boot to download.
2. Load Odin, uncheck auto reboot, PDA TWRP. after it installs pull battery to exit.
3. Boot to recovery - wipe- advanced wipe -Repairor Change File System - Check System (go thruough each)
4. Repair and change each to the file type you want to flash
5. repair and or change the files for the zip you are going to flash
6. you have done all the rest before ....
Issue resolved, thread closed, thanks.
