selecting Clockworkmod recovery results in factory data reset of system - General Questions and Answers

The Problem:
When I select Clockwork Recovery Mod from the three button process, the phone reboots and the entire system gets a factory data reset.
What did I do wrong?
My mobile is rooted and running a Jelly Bean Rom. I did a Factory Data Reset from the system i.e. from within android not from Clockworkmod recovery menu and since then this problem has occured. It appears that factory data reset command is stuck somewhere in the boot.
Current Condition:
The Mobile is running perfectly fine without any problems. I can reboot and turn off the phone and it will load Android Jelly Bean Rom smoothly. The problem only happens when I try to access Clockworkmod recovery.
Solutions tried so far
I tried to reflash Clockworkmod image update from Mobile Uncle MKT tools, it rebooted the mobile and did a factory data reset of the system. The same thing happens no matter how many times I try.
I couldn't reflash Clockworkmod using rom manager as it does not recognize by device.
Was it working fine before?
Yes Clockworkmod was working absolutely perfect. I installed various roms from it and did backup of stock rom and even twice restored the stock rom.
Phone Specifications:
It is a local variant of a phone found in Germany going by the name of Mobistel Cynus T2 and as Micromax A110 Canvas 2 in India.
Would greatly appreciate any help.

You will be OK
Not psychic, but I think you loaded an incompatable version of CWM and then flashed, a buddy of mine just went through this, he didn't pay close enough attention or maybe its just some weird stuff in the universe-HA!
Ok, you are probably in recurring boot cycle, if you can get phone into boot mode, you know the combination of keys to be able to flash something!
Get to your computer and find the original OS that it came with out of the box, it will be a large download, it could be anywhere from 480 meg to darn near a gig.
Go get Odin 3.07 is the latest I think, anyway use Odin to flash the original OS. Start from out of the box fresh. It wouldn't hurt to stop by the play store after set up and get Triangle Away, it gets rid of the counter that is tripped when a custom rom is flashed.
Good Luck.

Fixed
1). Download the Stock Recovery Rom and CWM recovery Rom for Qmobile Noir A10 from here.
2). Download Mobile Uncle Tool from Play Store.
3). Rename the Stock Recovery Rom to "Recovery.img" and place it on the root of the SD Storage.
4). Open Mobile Uncle, grant it super user access and from its menu select Recovery Update.
5). Then select the Recovery.img (mentioned under the SD Card header), after which Mobile Uncle tool will prompt for a "Reboot in Recovery Mode" to which yes should be selected. If you have accidently selected "no" then you can select Reboot in Recovery from the main menu of the tool.
6). After the Reboot the mobile may not enter into Stock Recovery Mode and instead perform a Factory Data Erase of the android system so don't panic and repeat steps from 2-5. It happened with me therefore I am mentioning it here.
7). After you have successfully entered the stock recovery mode, reboot you mobile phone and let it load the Android Operating System.
8). Now rename the CWM Recovery Rom to "Recovery.img" and using it replace Stock Recovery Rom, mentioned in step 3, on the mobile's SD Card.
9). Open Mobile Uncle Tool again and repeat step no.5.
10). Upon reboot, your phone will be in CWM recovery mode.
Now do the robot dance and look like an idiot.

Nexus S won't boot to OS

I have the Nexus S from Telus.
It was rooted, unlocked, running CM7. However I've been having issues with it freezing and decided I want to go back to the stock rom.
I ended up downloading what I thought was stock ROM for my phone (Stock GRH78 Nandroid Backup in this Tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093) however after it flashed my phone, I ended up with a phone which was essentially stuck in Airplane mode, would not connect to Telus. I'm guessing that it has the wrong radio for my phone/carrier?
So then I ended up finding a zip file someone posted Stock-GRJ22-i9020A-unsigned which should have worked, I ended up flashing the zip file from recovery.
It said it installed fine. Rebooted, and now the phone just cycles the Samsung Loading screen endlessly.
I tried to go back to recovery, and it gives me yellow triangle with !.
Is there any way to flash the recovery image back to the phone?
I plug the phone in and the PC won't recognize a device.
I installed the Android SDK
Ran the command adb devices, no devices attached to the PC.
I tried fastboot devices - blank
I don't know how I'll be able to get files back onto the phone SD Card for flashing etc...
I had the exact problem two days ago...flashed an image that jacked my phone up. Wouldn't boot past the google logo. Sat there indefinitely.
Read this thread and see if you can get it work. In a nutshell, you need the PDA net drivers installed. Since PDA net can't install the app on your phone (because it's not booted into an OS) leave the install program in limbo and voila, fast boot will work. From there, push the recovery.img (google Clockworkmod recovery image), boot into recovery and you are off to the races.
This is, of course, assuming you already have a ROM image on your internal SD card you can flash to get back up and running. I'm not sure how to install a .zip image ROM if you can't gain access to your SD card.

Good luck, I know the feeling. It blows.
Ah, just found out how to install a file on a phone that won't boot.
You do need to flash CWM recovery first though.

Good news! I tried a factory reset/data wipe and rebooted the phone.
It doesn't hang anymore, all functions restored and the phone is working on Telus again!
I guess I had to format data, clear cache, before the flash of the rom.
So relieved.
Issue has been solved!

Question on TWRP with Samsung Skyrocket

I'll post my question after some background:
I was on CWM Touch, downloaded and installed the TWRP from google play. Rebooted into recovery, created backups to internal and external, and flashed SkyICS 4.2f6 by Seanz. I followed OP instructions on how to flash. Did not have any problems and it was very easy to use.
Used TWRP and flashed several MODS and ROM updates without any hitch. All I did was reboot into recovery selected the zip files and swipe to install, did not even had to wipe cache or anything. I am not sure if this is the correct way but I was able to do so without any problems.
I wanted to install the same rom but to do a clean wipe since the rom had several updates. So, I rebooted into TWRP recovery, did OP flashing instructions which were:
-reboot into team win recovery
-wipe system
-factory data reset
-then go to mounts and choose external sd
-no go back and find the rom by choosing install zip
-swipe to confirm
-then install the radio you downloaded
and when complete reboot phone
-at this point everything will be settling and caching
which may or may not seem laggy.... and yes that white line is normal
its a battery representation mod
-im sure youll be eager to update busybox immediatly but let me tell you no
first open super user app.. find preferences and update user binary
hit it twice giving it root permissions
now .. is when to update busy box through the provided installer
-after you have done this
-power down phone
reboot into recovery and flash the latest update
and email package only
However, I was not able to reboot into recovery. I have a Samsung Skyrocket but was not able to put the phone into recovery mode by pressing and holding the power, volume up, and volume down buttons. The phone kept vibrating but the Samsung screen wont come up. Frustrated, I rebooted the phone, downloaded CWM, updated to Touch and proceeded to flash using CWM with no problems.
At this point i'm hesitant on using TWRP. I am not even sure if ODIN supports it. I'm afraid that if i'm on TWRP and brick my phone, I will not be able to use ODIN.
Questions:
Has anyone encounter the same problem?
Is TWRP compatible with ODIN?
Can anyone using Samsung Skyrocket confirm the recovery steps used above is correct?
Thank you for your help.
i am currently using twrp and ive had no problems flashing roms including sky ics which those directions are from also a recovery isnt compatible with odin if you want to odin back to stock or flash anew recovery image you just go into download mode and procedd from there

To reboot into recovery you hold power, volume up and down and when you see the first samsung logo let go of the power or it will keep rebooting.
As for being compatible with odin, I'm not sure what you mean. You can flash TWRP through odin, you can get into download mode with twrp installed also.
Have you tried reinstalling TWRP?

(SOLVED) I CAN'T EXIT TO CMW Recovery

I have here a brand new GT-I8262, JB 4.1.2
Here's what I did,
1. I rooted my phone using farmaroot, it was a success.
2. I wanted to install CWM recovery just to do a nandroid backup, I followed this tut http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517850 I used the 1st method and it was a success, ODIN software said It passed. Then I tried to boot into CWM recovery, but it keeps on booting into downloading mode.
3. So I downloaded ROM Manager to check the status of my phone if CWM is installed, but it says its not installed.
4. Then finally, I go to settings, do a "factory reset" and wipe all my data, now my phone suddenly reboots into CWM recovery mode, I'm in the main menu, but when I tried to " Reboot system now" it reboots the phone and back again to CWM. I can't get out of CWM...
Please Help me, IDK this, is this kinda soft or a hard brick?
Please help, I can't get this to samsung service because I have a Yellow Triangle and I've already reset once my binary count.
I still have warranty, I don't want it to be voided. :crying::crying::crying:

Use this stock recovery.Flash it via CWM,reboot and you will see the recovery stock, then reboot again.
Or you should flash CWM again..
Thanks guys,
I fixed my phone by using this tut, by flashing stock firmware.

[Completed] Note 4 recovery capped

I am having some serious troubles with upgrading my Galaxy Note 4 SM-910P (Sprint). All was well in rooting, un-rooting, etc... I have the original 4.4.4 and the new 5.0 backed up and now I can't use anything other than the firmware the original firmware package through Odin. The problem started when I installed the [ROM]ViSiON-X N4 SPR 5.0.1 [Android L 5.0][N910PVPU1BOB7-R1][03-11-15]. It installed fine but when ever I was not watching it a problem occurred such as getting locked out of ny ext SD, or just plain un-rooting itself. It finally came down to it just kicked my device into download mode and would not reboot. I did used chains Odin root method and installed TWRP, which I can still do but can not flash or restore from TWRP or CWM recovery. It will take the firmware package fine and download the 5.0 update but always gets stopped from any other upgrade at recovery be it stock or custom. I have even used Kies to try and upgrade a few time. It will upgrade from NK1 to NK2 but still will not upgrade anything else past recovery. Every time I reboot I lose my WIFI password. After every boot it takes a minute for any network to be able to reach the device. It is paused until I re enter my WiFi password then it will say that Android is done upgrading and there is a toast message that says "device is set to factory mode some items won't work on this mode set device to user mode". Can someone please tell me how to set my device to user mode or erase what ever is lockled in my device between download and recovery. The issue I described with the device wanting to stay in download mode and how to handle it is described her http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59372208&postcount=3 but as I mentioned I can't get passed anything that is not firmware through Odin. If I had to be locked in one version forever I would have preferred it be 5.0
I figured it out

I fianlly figured out the deal with TWRP not flashing.
The change between file systems is what TWRP won't flash.
To flash into the new, the old, or back up property check the file type.
Ext 2, Ext 4, F2FS, etc ...
To get recovery to load install from odin with auto boot disabled, remove battery, than vol + - menu and power.
the steps below..
1. Power off (complete) boot to download.
2. Load Odin, uncheck auto reboot, PDA TWRP. after it installs pull battery to exit.
3. Boot to recovery - wipe- advanced wipe -Repairor Change File System - Check System (go thruough each)
4. Repair and change each to the file type you want to flash
5. repair and or change the files for the zip you are going to flash
6. you have done all the rest before ....
Issue resolved, thread closed, thanks.

[q][help urgent][samsung j500f] no download mode/no os/twrp present/no booting

Hi,
okay, so i had a rooted samsung j500f phone running android lollipop 5.1.1 stock rom (downloaded from sammobile). I was using Apps2Sd for linking my apps to the external SD Card. Few days ago, my phone turned off on the battery getting empty and when i turned it on, all linked apps were missing. I was getting an error that "Disable mount namespace seperation in Chainfire SU". I did that but nothing happened and the App2Sd was unable to remount 2nd partition.
Frustrated, i contacted their developer who suggested to reinstall SuperSU. So, i opened the SuperSU app (chainfire) and went to settings and then chose the option "Reinstall from google play store". It uninstalled SuperSU which i later downloaded from Google Play Store. After it had installed, it asked to install binaries and gave me two options:
1) Normal in-app method
2) TWRP/CWM recovery method
I chose the second one (because i had TWRP installed).
Then my phone rebooted into recovery and ran a few scripts. However it later stated that there is no root on your device (which i believe may have been removed when SuperSU was uninstalled). TWRP gave me options to reinstall SuperSU but it did nothing. I downloaded the latest SuperSU zip file from chainfire site and tried to flash it. But the script would show failure. Now, my phone wouldn't boot into the system. Only into recovery mode.
Being really pissed, i decided to do a factory reset. So i did a factory reset from within the TWRP (normal wipe). Still, my phone wouldn't boot but would go to recovery. So i got angry, went into the Advanced wipe option in which i selected dalvik cache, internal storage, SYSTEM and wiped them all.
Now on trying to reboot, TWRP would say "There is no OS installed. Are you sure you want to continue?"
I knew i had messed up my phone and so i decided to flash it with stock rom again using ODIN. But, whenever i try to go into download mode it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy J5 Logo screen with "ODIN Mode" written on the top left along with a couple of other details such as Knox void 0x1(4), Rom statusfficial, etc.
Clearly, i am unable to flash using ODIN as my phone isn't being able to go to Download Mode. ODIN doesn't detect my device.
So i thought of flashing the stock rom using TWRP, which failed.
I also have a TWRP Backup but TWRP won't let me select it. I have the backup folder on my SD card.
Now my phone has just TWRP, Can't get into download mode using the key combinations or through TWRP bootloader option which on selection gives me the "No OS" error. I can't boot my device up as it goes into recovery.
Kindly help as soon as possible.
Thank you.
If you wipe the SYSTEM Partition, then of course that no OS is installed. Like a Hard Brick. Good Job...
