Question on TWRP with Samsung Skyrocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'll post my question after some background:
I was on CWM Touch, downloaded and installed the TWRP from google play. Rebooted into recovery, created backups to internal and external, and flashed SkyICS 4.2f6 by Seanz. I followed OP instructions on how to flash. Did not have any problems and it was very easy to use.
Used TWRP and flashed several MODS and ROM updates without any hitch. All I did was reboot into recovery selected the zip files and swipe to install, did not even had to wipe cache or anything. I am not sure if this is the correct way but I was able to do so without any problems.
I wanted to install the same rom but to do a clean wipe since the rom had several updates. So, I rebooted into TWRP recovery, did OP flashing instructions which were:
-reboot into team win recovery
-wipe system
-factory data reset
-then go to mounts and choose external sd
-no go back and find the rom by choosing install zip
-swipe to confirm
-then install the radio you downloaded
and when complete reboot phone
-at this point everything will be settling and caching
which may or may not seem laggy.... and yes that white line is normal
its a battery representation mod
-im sure youll be eager to update busybox immediatly but let me tell you no
first open super user app.. find preferences and update user binary
hit it twice giving it root permissions
now .. is when to update busy box through the provided installer
-after you have done this
-power down phone
reboot into recovery and flash the latest update
and email package only
However, I was not able to reboot into recovery. I have a Samsung Skyrocket but was not able to put the phone into recovery mode by pressing and holding the power, volume up, and volume down buttons. The phone kept vibrating but the Samsung screen wont come up. Frustrated, I rebooted the phone, downloaded CWM, updated to Touch and proceeded to flash using CWM with no problems.
At this point i'm hesitant on using TWRP. I am not even sure if ODIN supports it. I'm afraid that if i'm on TWRP and brick my phone, I will not be able to use ODIN.
Questions:
Has anyone encounter the same problem?
Is TWRP compatible with ODIN?
Can anyone using Samsung Skyrocket confirm the recovery steps used above is correct?
Thank you for your help.

i am currently using twrp and ive had no problems flashing roms including sky ics which those directions are from also a recovery isnt compatible with odin if you want to odin back to stock or flash anew recovery image you just go into download mode and procedd from there

To reboot into recovery you hold power, volume up and down and when you see the first samsung logo let go of the power or it will keep rebooting.
As for being compatible with odin, I'm not sure what you mean. You can flash TWRP through odin, you can get into download mode with twrp installed also.
Have you tried reinstalling TWRP?

[Q] CWM Works but when flashing a Rom device hangs

I just tried all the tips around here before I create this thread but honestly i could not sort out my issue...
I rooted & installed CWM final without any issues on my SGS4G...then I could Access the Zip rom & flash it via CWM (I even checked the device Mounts & Unmounts) every thing goes fine till it shows a message "Install completed from SD card" but when i reboot it keeps hanging on the Logo (GALAXY S 4G - SAMSUNG) it never pass from that Logo, i also tried with many latest roms such as Blackice, Audiophile & bionix but the same issue
Then i used to load a rom Via Odin (2.2.1 ) then tried the above process nearly 15 times
someone could pointout me where do i make a mistake & what should i need to confirm further more from above process?

which rom are u flashing from????
after the initial flash, try going to the advanced menu, and reboot recovery. Then wipe everything again, check mounts, and reboot. give that a shot. If you are flashing icbinb, you need to enable voodoo lagfix in CWM and reboot recovery before rebooting the phone.
are you on orange CWM, or red CWM?
Moved to proper forum.

[Q] 4ext ROM flash on DINC2, taking 1hr+ so far, is this normal?

I am trying to flash a custom ROM to my DINC2, this is my first time. I have run into a problem. 4ext recovery has been sitting at the "Installing update..." screen while flashing the ROM for over an hour now. I can hit the phone search button and get "taking screenshot" to appear, but nothing else happens. What is going on?
I have chosen the unofficial multilang MIUI4 ICS ROM. So far I have done the following.
1) Revolutionary S-OFF via downgrade method, install CWM
2) Root with su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
3) Download & install 4EXT recovery (RC8).
4) With 4EXT, full wipe/ factory restore, clear cache + dalvik
5) Flash the ROM zip file once, this was successful and took about 5 minutes. However whenever I rebooted phone it would come right back to 4EXT rather than booting into the ROM.
6) Decided to try flashing ROM zip file second time over previous flash. I did NOT do a wipe this time, just attempted to overwrite. Now the phone is just sitting there.
I did check the md5 sums all along the way and everything looks ok. Can anyone help me?
Update. In case anyone cared. 4ext RC8 remained in the same for several more hours. I ended up rebooting the phone with vol up + vol down + pwr, and then attempted the same action again after wipe + format all except SD card. This time the flash "took" and I am now running the ROM. I am not sure what happened as I did everything exactly the same. But it's running now.

[Q] Messed up trying to install lollipop for blue htc one s

hi everyone, good to finally sign up after being a long time reader here, unfortunately I have a problem.
My htc one s is rooted and I am running twrp and wanted to install the latest cm nightly so I downloaded it, googled instructions and used these instructions from a website.
Steps to Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on HTC One S via Official CyanogenMod 12 Nightly ROM
Boot into Recovery mode via adb or hardware buttons or use the QuickBoot app if your device is rooted.
In recovery mode, back up data on your current ROM. If using TWRP, select Backup and perform a Swipe to Back Up from the bottom of the screen.
Then select Wipe and do a Swipe to Factory Reset from the bottom of the screen.
Return to the main menu of TWRP recovery and select Install (if using CWM then choose Install Zip from SDcard.
Browse to the file where you saved the CM12 ROM zip file, select it and Swipe to Confirm Flash on the bottom of the screen. Now, wait until the flashing process completes.
After the ROM is flashed, repeat step 8 to flash the Gapps package as well.
Once both the files are flashed, return to recovery's Main menu and select Reboot > System.
I did all that and it installed fine, however, when I restarted the phone, it showed the htc logo then it just went black so I had to go back into twrp.
Instead I changed my mind and tried to install 4.1.1. jelly bean (since I needed to update anyways and couldn't because I'm running twrp and in that whole process I ended up deleting the version of jellybean and basically my phone has no jellybean or lollipop installed at all so my only option is going back into twrp.
After that, I read that my phone has to be S-off so I looked up instructions on how to install it (I'm on a mac) and apparently I'm supposed to flash the boot.img (kernel) via fast boot but in order to do that you need to have jellybean or some kind of rom running to have debugging mode on and I don't so basically this is where I'm stuck.
My apologies for the lengthy explanation but if anyone knows what to do from here that would be amazing thanks.

Where do I get Gapps without pc

I recently just rooted my phone (Nexus 6) and added custom ROM and custom back up for CM12 but when everything booted up there were no Google apps and I cannot download any apps as well bc there is no play store? How do I get Gapps on my phone without having to use a PC bc I got through this whole process without one so I need to finish it likewise and plus I do not have a computer yet.

To avoid future confusion are you on cm12.0 or cm12.1? Gapps packages are available as a zip package which you flash in recovery just like a ROM (but over the top, after ROM install ).
If you can work out the one you want without further help from me, I recommend slim gapps. Just pick the correct one you want, download on phone to storage and flash in recovery.
Ok so I am currently running cm12.1 and I have downloaded a zip file for the gapps but of course its not compatible with any of CM12.1's stock apps. So the question is how do I correctly flash in recovery and get the gapps file unzipped.
also when I try to flash it it in recovery my twrp is not loading up. It says "cyanogen Recovery" Im not sure hwats going on but what can i do excatly

Why would it not be compatible? All GApps are are things like sync and more surface level apps like YouTube. Link me the exact package you downloaded and I'll tell you if its ok. Just do a nandroid backup and flash, the worse that can happen is that it doesn't work and you have to restore.

So when i hold down the power button its gives me the option to reboot and i choose reboot then it says recovery or bootloader and i go to recovery. Instead of Twrp its just boots to "cyanogen recovery" and when im there i pressed install update because i want to install the gapps (I have the gapps zip file in my download folder) but after i press it it just says install failed and it prompts me back to recovery screen.
so i pressed reset on accident now i do not have anything on my phone expect for the cm12.1 because I checked the file manager and all my other twrp dowloads are gone as well as everything.
SO am i screwed or can i recovery from this failure.
Mind you i have a nexus 6

So you mean you have no ROM to boot into?
I'm not familiar with Cyanogen recovery... try to see if you can flash the ROM from the "install update" option.
If this succeeds, I recommend flashing TWRP as this will present far fewer issues than Cyanogen recovery.
Will I need a computer?

For which part? If you can boot into Cyanogen recovery, and you have the ROM zip file on your phone, then flash that using "install update" in recovery then boot it. If that works I'll guide you from there.
For the TWRP part, possibly. Some phones work fine just with the TWRP app.
Okay can you boot into a working ROM or not? if you can then don't worry, it's an easy fix. Alright so since you factory reset your device you'll have to go into settings and enable developer options and enable root. Once you did that download TWRP Manager and install TWRP for your Nexus 6. Now you're rid of that useless CyanogenMod recovery (only thing you can do with that is factory reset and install CM). Then redownload whatever Gapps you had tried to flash and flash them over CM12

So I downloaded the apk TWRP and it would not let me install the latest version (maybe because that was the one i installed orignally before i reset the phone) but it let me download the one right before the newest one "Twrp-2.8.7.0-shamu.img" to be excat. And prior to this i had already downloaded the slim Gapps as a zip ( i used the link that "HTCDreamOn" gave me on earlier in the thread) and they are located in my downloads folder.
Boom so i reboot the phone into recovery and finally Twrp recovery pops up instead of the cm recovery so thats good news but when i pressed install to flash the gapps they were not there in fact next to internal memeory it said "0 MB". so why is it saying i have nothing in my memory. I mean the download folder didnt even show up
Can you make a backup? What I mean is, does TWRP function otherwise or does everything say 0mb? When you go into the "mount" section is data checked?

do I just need to download cm12.1 and gapps again and just wipe and backup then flash

yes it is checked and it keeps saying
"E: Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/ .twrps whentrying to read settings file."
and it keeps saying unable to mount storage

[q][help urgent][samsung j500f] no download mode/no os/twrp present/no booting

Hi,
okay, so i had a rooted samsung j500f phone running android lollipop 5.1.1 stock rom (downloaded from sammobile). I was using Apps2Sd for linking my apps to the external SD Card. Few days ago, my phone turned off on the battery getting empty and when i turned it on, all linked apps were missing. I was getting an error that "Disable mount namespace seperation in Chainfire SU". I did that but nothing happened and the App2Sd was unable to remount 2nd partition.
Frustrated, i contacted their developer who suggested to reinstall SuperSU. So, i opened the SuperSU app (chainfire) and went to settings and then chose the option "Reinstall from google play store". It uninstalled SuperSU which i later downloaded from Google Play Store. After it had installed, it asked to install binaries and gave me two options:
1) Normal in-app method
2) TWRP/CWM recovery method
I chose the second one (because i had TWRP installed).
Then my phone rebooted into recovery and ran a few scripts. However it later stated that there is no root on your device (which i believe may have been removed when SuperSU was uninstalled). TWRP gave me options to reinstall SuperSU but it did nothing. I downloaded the latest SuperSU zip file from chainfire site and tried to flash it. But the script would show failure. Now, my phone wouldn't boot into the system. Only into recovery mode.
Being really pissed, i decided to do a factory reset. So i did a factory reset from within the TWRP (normal wipe). Still, my phone wouldn't boot but would go to recovery. So i got angry, went into the Advanced wipe option in which i selected dalvik cache, internal storage, SYSTEM and wiped them all.
Now on trying to reboot, TWRP would say "There is no OS installed. Are you sure you want to continue?"
I knew i had messed up my phone and so i decided to flash it with stock rom again using ODIN. But, whenever i try to go into download mode it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy J5 Logo screen with "ODIN Mode" written on the top left along with a couple of other details such as Knox void 0x1(4), Rom statusfficial, etc.
Clearly, i am unable to flash using ODIN as my phone isn't being able to go to Download Mode. ODIN doesn't detect my device.
So i thought of flashing the stock rom using TWRP, which failed.
I also have a TWRP Backup but TWRP won't let me select it. I have the backup folder on my SD card.
Now my phone has just TWRP, Can't get into download mode using the key combinations or through TWRP bootloader option which on selection gives me the "No OS" error. I can't boot my device up as it goes into recovery.
Kindly help as soon as possible.
Thank you.
If you wipe the SYSTEM Partition, then of course that no OS is installed. Like a Hard Brick. Good Job...
