we will have S5 system - Galaxy S 4 General

ya we will have the Galaxy S5 system its just matter of time, I can confirm that !
I have some documents that can improve my confirmation.
But I cant show anything to you
And I can confirm that since 4.4.2 update we have some of the system files that we can modify it to get the S5 look and feeling
There is a trick that can change your status bar to S5 status bar, its to edit the build.prop and changing the device name & model to SH-900S, what im talking about is I did this trick to S3 & S2 but didnt change anything
We will all have the S5 UI, Touchwiz, launcher, status bar, elc.. in the few next updates maybe.
You can call me a lier, But I cant promise you anything

They're plenty of threads on this already.
I personally don't like the looks of the s5 stuff, I actually preferred the the s4's 4.2.2 status bar over the one on 4.4.2...

Some of my friends didnt like the S5 status bar too, so you are not alone

I think that you're right. We will get the new look on android 4.4.3 I think

Eh well to each there own .
At least we have have the option to customize :good:.

it's possible
me do not like
in system files from update for Galaxy Black Edition
after decompiling some system applications I saw some files as S5
Icons and other image files
That was today
I saw some files while extracting of original wallpapers Black Edition

What I don' get is, why are they filling our device up with s5 files but doesn't tell or use it, it is just extra storage gone :/
atleast don't put the files in our phones system

You have a point

In theory it saves samsung space on there drives, less mess.
They can keep say the s4 and s5 src code together as the same base src and just tell it which to output via makefile.
It's better that way, for all of us, it means we'll get the same updates that s5 gets, at least eventually.
But... lol, there is a but...
I don't think they do that lol, I'm pretty sure you have dl separate code for each phone.
I don't see why they couldn't do that..., but that's a diff topic .
What they are doing is probably just copying and pasting parts of the s5 code into the s4 code, and then setting a compiler path via some sort of makefile or something.
Or actually wait a min, wasn't it just some device id string in build.prob or something most of these files rely on to check the build?
Anyways I don't think most of this is a big deal.
Most of the stuff you would just gut out eventually when you tweak anyways, the rest you replace.
Like the launcher, unfortunately (I wish it had a 6x icon dock thingy, so I wouldn't need to use nova launcher).
And s-health, which is pretty much useless as a temperature reader.
The only thing I really like on the default samsung roms is the gallery viewer lol.
The only things I don't gut are the gallery, s-planner, contacts, phone, messaging, s-memo, s-translator, optical reader(about useless but still neat and works offline), voice recorder and phone app.
And I don't actually use the memo and planner lol .
Oh and the camera app, I use that alot even though it resets the darned exposure level each time it's started.
I should probably be using camera fv-5 instead more often (oh yeah that doesn't take movies...).
I do like the launcher though, I just can't fit all my sub folders down on the bottom.
Settings menu's are alright.
The htc one has some weird setup that reminded me of what little of seen of ubuntu so far.
Definitely better then aosp though.
As for the s5 stuff, I haven't seen anything I like about it :\.
They really don't seem like major changes.
The shot gunning connection thingy majigger can be done by the shell script cmd line I think.
It's just a network bridge.
I don't really see the point though, I think wireless n is fast enough, unless wanna make a cpu cluster out of an bunch of s4/s5's lol.
But if you were todo that, I'de sure hate to visit that server room, you'de get overwhelmed by the microwaves lol.
Sure is a selling point though, I was already asked if i could do that for my cousin's tablet, so he thought it was cool...

Samsung will never do this cuz it's all about money. if they include S5 system apps and features in S4, nobody will buy S5 so they force people to buy it.

You will see man, they did it to the S3 too
The S3 now includes some of S4 Features and style they even updated it with Group Play that wasnt expected right?

Yes they included some but they won't include ever all that would be possible. For example the weather widget is the old one and that's really simple to update it.

I'd be happy with the new launcher and icon set.. Though the newer versions of the tw default apps won't hurt as well.. i like the flatter look..
Hope full because Samsung has always updated this stuff on the old galaxy's as well.. S hit the s2 ui, s2 got the s3 ui and I think s3 hit the s4 ui..

The S4 is more than capable of running the S5 rom if Samsung were to directly port it over but they won't we will probably get a few things but they obviously want to sell the S5 so will probably hold back on a few things.

I just hope they wont change their strategy this year and leave our s4 with same look ...

Why oh why? ?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk

i believe we will get the newer TW but none of the apps and widgets. Based on previous phones

And then we can add the widgets and apps from s5 to s4 with root?
With costum rom is it possible that the s4 looks exactly how the s5?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

with root yes, but if you root then you loose the warranty. I believe this is the last time i touch a Samsung device, because of the knox stuff.

I don't understand why everyone is thinking that if Samsung does not update my s4 , then I'll say, "hmmm I am a ****ed customer, let's buy the s5"!!!
NOOOOOO. I'll be an unhappy customer and I won't buy the s5, s6,s7,s8 and everything that has Samsung name on it.
On the other hand, if they keep me happy (meaning day one updates when they update their UI) , THEN I'll be a happy customer and possibly a loyal one and I'll keep buying Samsung staff.

Tab 3 8 Kit Kat. What's new?

I just got the kit kat update for Tab 3 8. I live in LA California. Wifi only and I had to force it using the check for updates option. So I can list a few differences I'm noticing. I'm pretty sure all this stuff is new but some of it might be stuff I missed with 4.2.2.
Transparent notification bar.
New multiwindow experience. Now it does not have that little tab hanging over the side. Now you swipe it in from the side. I haven't played with it, I still find it unusable.
You can customise the toggle ribbon more now. You still have to have tons of icons but you can pick the order and take a few out.
The lock screen has a now playing type widget that looks nice.
On-screen keyboard toogle for bluetooth keyboards. I actually am trying to write a screenplay on this tablet and I had to buy a stupid app to fix the stupid keyboard the stupid way it worked be stupid fore and now it works better and I bought a stupid app for stupid nothing. But I'm glad it works better now.
That's all I've noticed so far. I also don't use touchwiz, I use nova.
Tell me what you guys are noticing or if you find an official list of changes let me know. Thanks everybody

Jacksonville, FL here and no update available yet.
Cosmetically it's hard to notice the difference on the firmware, but under the hood there are some serious changes to the firmware, but all for the better.
The "Transparent Notification bar" was there on JB 4.2.2,
And "Multiple windows" is very functional now.
● TouchWiz is lighter and smooth now...
(I'm so happy with it's performance now, to the point I didn't bothered to install the Google Now Launcher yet...)
● Third-party apps can't write to External SD card anymore...
(There is a way if you root the device)
● Some extra new Wi-Fi settings.
● The keyboard is improved and the "Picture gallery" and other factory apps also received some TLC for the better.
But for me, the "Multiple User capability" is definitely th e Icing on the cake.

are there really 56 preinstalled apps?

http://iphone.appleinsider.com/arti...talled-including-instagram-microsoft-onedrive
im hoping theyre trolling
Just read that also. And you can hide them in the app drawer but can't uninstall them as previously thought
The S6 in the "hands on" thread, which the OP said is an international model, has 50 apps.
50 non deletable apps?
i was trying to get a less laggy samsung phone with the s6, im not sure now
Of course there are, just like there are 50 preinstalled apps on Windows - Notepad, Internet Explorer, WMP, Windows Defender, etc.
Android has components, that people who want to strike Android will count as preinstalled - Media Library, Music Player, Play Store; do I need to continue to make it any more clear?

Exactly....I should have clarified. No reason to get overly excited in my opinion.
how many forced apps like instagram, 3 messaging apps, svoice etc.
then i have to add apps like cookie jam that my carrier pushed on my phone.
i barely use any of the included apps on my note 4. and ive only installed apps that work on my nexus so the lag is really a samsung thing.
my s5 wasnt laggy at all, just the internet was crawling cos the antana. so i upgraded to the note 4. signal is great but phone lags so bad

As long as your carrier does not screw up the software, I can assure you S6 does not lag. I have played with both S6 and S6 Edge and they are as lagless as I can imagine.
These so called review sites form a opinion about a product and then try their best to generalize it. Why nobody talks about all the Google apps that come pre-installed?
I have myself checked S6 out and those apps and all are basic necessities after you buy a new phone.
It is true I was messing around with one yesterday and it's impossible to uninstall only disable, it will consume space on a device that's not expandable in terms of memory ?

And if you could uninstall them you would still only have xx amount of usable storage. The apps are stored in a partition of the memory. This is why I wonder why people get so bent out of shape over bloat. Disable it. You can't use that memory anyways.
What is the point of this nonsense! Cramming their phones with apps most of their customers don't want or use. If I want any of Samsung apps, I could go to the store and download it. Samsung itself knows that Touchwiz is hated by the majority and that is why their trimmed 40% of it but I think more trimming could have been done.

Quoted for truth.
The apps shouldnt be there to begin with. But they take less than a GB of storage so I dont really care.
Can someone make a list of apps that Samsung have removed from the S6. I think the usual lot are still there. And they have added a Smart Manager and 3 MS apps... Sammobiles report of there being only 2 samsung apps was waay off

What kind of thinking is that? Do you also expect Apple os MS not to include the most basic software on the OS either? Notepad or Paint? Do you expect Samsung to be different here? Everyone says it has been heavily debloated already, yet you have not seen the phone yet and already complaining?

every single samsung phone ive played with that has flipboard, that thing always feels horrible. other than that the S6 was fluid and videos on the S6 edge looked fantastic.

What do you hope to achieve with ROOT

When a root method is released for the S7 flat and S7 Edge, what do you hope to mod or fix or enhance?
Here's a short list of what I want to achieve with root.
1: Unlock or Activate the FM radio capabilities for the T-mobile version (not just the Sprint version).
2. Own a device that doesn't tell me who the boss is, 'cause it's ME and not the manufacturer.
EDIT: I guess this thread is mute now, because there will not be root in the forseeable future.
Same as you except... Delete bloatware (T-Mobile TV I'm looking at you) , adaway and most important xposed for xprivacy cause games shouldn't need my phone imei number and location to play

Number 1 on your list may be a bit of a long shot. Note 4 & S6 both have FM Radio hardware but have been locked by T-Mob and have yet to be activated.
All the same, I'm looking forward to root so I can DELETE what I don't want, rather than "disable but still leave it eating up space on my phone". LOL
FM Radio should be possible... all the hardware is the same... I'm betting this is the year it we figure out how to unlock that.
Yeah I see the AT&T version comes with fm radio enabled. I sent a tweet out to T-Mobile complaining about why the fm chip is disabled.

I'd be happy for dual roms. What about a Linux environment that can run Ubuntu apps natively... I guess that's too much to ask also... (I know I know, chroot inside of android, but it's not the same)

2. Do whatever I want with my phone (install Xposed, change or customize settings, install apps that need root, etc)
It's my pocket computer, so I shall be the admin / superuser of it.

You don't need to root for that. Some phones get methods to do it without contacting the carrier but if you're rooting just for that... there's a much better way lol
I want to be able to use tincore and moonlight at their full capacity. Seems ridiculous to me that certain input devices (such as a mouse) require root access to be fully utilized... feels like that should be standard functionality.

Coming from the note 4 I would say go for it. I'm a phone junky and I'm coming from the note 5. I miss the pen at times but I didn't use it heavily so I'll manage. Still missing the IR blaster but have found a solution for that. The phone is awesome. Great battery ?, super quick, aosp support, great ? and its water resistant. With tmobile jump on demand I'll just get the note 6 when I comes out. If you're coming from the note 4 I would say get it. Grab the edge since its hust a tad smaller. The regular s7 won't cut it.

If I can figure out how the new coding works and where the correct lines are at I'm hoping to put out a modded camera. Pre-Kit-Kat (or LP, can't remember) it was easy. Decompile to .smali files, find MediaRecorder.smali and edit the array. Now it looks like the data I'm looking for isn't in there and has been placed elsewhere or it's wholly HW controlled. If anyone has some insight on this I'd love to edit some bit rates and much more, PM me if you know anything.
Anyway aside from the normal things, that's what I'm looking forward to. Also since we have a SnapDragon: some AOSP and/or AOKP finally!!!

Old Samsung S Planner on the Galaxy S7? Difficult question...

Hi to all!
I'm new to the forum, and I'm glad I have discovered this community! What I like most is Android's flexibility!
By the way, I have a question for you:
I'm fond of the old S Planner App I had on my Galaxy S4 (the one with the leather/paper colors), and I'd like to have it on my new Galaxy S7. Obviously, it isn't available for download on any store, so I tried to extract the .apk file from my old phone with the Apk Extractor found on the Play Store.
Everything went apparently well, the apk was successfully created, and I imported it on the S7 via Dropbox. Sadly, when I tried to install it, I got the "App Installation Failed" message, and I couldn't get it working.
Do you guys have any advice about this? Is there a way I can get the good ol' S Planner on my S7?
Thanks!!!
(P.s. sorry for not providing a screenshot of the app; the forum prevents me to post links to outside websites, and images too. To get an idea of the app I'm talking about, search on Google for "samsung s planner", images: it's the one with leather/paper color set).
I do remember this app. Those apps rely on Samsung's TouchWiz framework and I believe that has changed considerably since the s4. That being said, I believe the successor to that is the S Note app. Check it out here [http://www.samsungapps.com/appquer...ng.android.snote&cntyTxt=311&equipID=SM-G935V
Hope that helps somewhat. I know it's not 100%, but between that and "Memo" it should hopefully cover your bases.

Samsung Messages-app from newer phone for sent time?

Hey everybody,
The S4 is definitely getting old, but I am quite happy with it, and keep it running with a lot of tweaks and it totally fulfills my needs. So even if it would be nice to upgrade, I don't see why I should spend the money now (and not rather wait 1 more year).
What I dislike though is that you cannot see the sent-time of received messages. Since Lollipop the SMS-Sent-Time app from the PlayStore has become unrealiable. Google Messenger does show the sent time, but I don't like the interface. It wastes too much space in my opinion. I'd rather stick with the Samsung app. Unfortunately, this one doesn't show the sent time in message details.
So, I was wondering: do the newer version of Samsungs messages app show the sent time (if I have to select this option from a popup is fine for me)? If yes, would it be possible to just take the apk from a newer phone (like s5 or s6) and replace the one on mine? If that's possible as well, where would I get this apk?
Thanks a lot in advance

So, I was wondering: do the newer version of Samsungs messages app show the sent time (if I have to select this option from a popup is fine for me)? If yes, would it be possible to just take the apk from a newer phone (like s5 or s6) and replace the one on mine? If that's possible as well, where would I get this apk?
Thanks a lot in advance

But is it worth it? Does it show the sent time on request, unlike the S4 stock messages app?
