i think this has already been asked by someone here.. but can anyone help me? i'm using galaxy mini and i flashed cm10.1 on it.. i haven't tried cm7 yet.. based on the threads i read, cm7.2 is good for gaming.. i want to downgrade cm10.1 to cm7.2.. cm10.1 made my gmini a bit slower and drains my battery fast.. they said i have to overclock it, but it my phone keeps on rebooting.. thanks in advance..

the reason why its rebooting is because it cant handle too much overclocking, if this was a computer you would be breaking it, Phone CPUs are small and meant to cool down in hot small areas so they only reboot if it cant take that much, as for downgrading, i advise you would backup all your stuff onto your computer or a micro SD card. whats your model number?

Hi guys,
as i said in the title im completely new to all this. My mum has a desire s and i think the sense software is rubbish..hence i want to install MIUI. I have an iPhone which was extremely easy to JB and ive been searching around for help rooting/flashing an MIUI rom to the Desire S but damn it looks complex :| and im being extra cautious because its my mum's phone and i dont want to brick it.
After searching im still confused..
Do i need to root to flash MIUI?
If so, how? Can i use this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100 Is there anything i need to do before and/or after I use this method?
Also, this is the MIUI rom i've found..http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php?2543-ROM-HTC-Desire-S-(saga)
It says the kernel is included in the download, but does that require a seperate installation?
Can someone help me please? Been looking around for days and just not getting it :/
Help will be greatly appreciated!
Sorry, I don't want to sound rude , but , have you checked the first couple of pages here on Q&A ? There are at least a couple of threads with similar querries ....
Plus, there's INDEX (with everything you require) for help , as always !
I'd suggest you read more , before even thinking of S OFF or Rooting!
Best of luck ....
i dunno about your 1st question but once u "jb" ur android, the kernel will be in the same zip so that when u flash the rom, u chg the rom and also the kernel. u will need to flash "gapps" as well if the is no play.market app.
as for your question 1 i use a different method so i cant comment on that.
but do be reminded to do each step and tick it off slowly once u done. DO NOT skip/miss a step. I actually took 2 days 2 nights reading through before rooting it, and i still made a mistake(as i was in a hurry for class, wrong timing for rooting). but once u read through the doing part will be quite fast. next thing u know u can flash different roms when ever ur mom gets bored of her phone interface.
try flashing different rom before and see which is faster and slicker.
try getting a "aokp" rom, it give u more to configure around. miui doesnt have a drawer and it looks alot like an iphone interface if that is what ur mom wants.
Hello all. OK I am a new user to XDA however I have both the Galaxy Tab 2 7 and Infuse 4g running CM9 and the HTC Amaze running Energy rom. Anyways my question is that for CM10 on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, will there be any way that apps can be move to the external sd without having to use GL to Sd card? I have a 16gb sd card and my tab internal memory is 8. I have looked at the CM10 for the gtab 2 7.0 and haven't found any answers. So can someone give me an answer. I want to flash CM10 and need to know if I can do it. If anyone wants to critique my spelling and grimmer, go ahead however, this is not school nor and none of us are perfect writers. Anyways if anyone can answer my question I would be very grateful.
P.S. I am not no noob or newbie whatsoever when it comes to rooting and flashing phones. I have starting flashing devices since last year with Huawei Ascend from Froyo to CM7 gingerbread. Rooted Samsung Admire and Samsung Captivate and flashed (bricked a few times) Samsung Infuse 4 from stock to various roms to finally CM9 android 4.0.4. Right now my active devices are both my HTC Amaze and Galaxy tab 2 7.0 wifi only running CM9. I know it is irrelevant. :good:
Link2SD
Think you have to partition the SD card to primary first , sorry not tried/used it . Hopefully someone can explain better than me ?
Off topic :
If all people can do is correct your spelling and not offer valid help ....F**k 'em ! I can never understand why people feel the urge to do that , it's childish and not really helpful to the question that is asked.
Sean
When they do try and correct someone I laugh at them. I been a visitor to this site since last year when I started to flash, root, etc.. It is like we all supposed to know to spell every word every created. No of us are perfect but it doesn't bother me at all. It is just funny though
I tired using Link2sd but that doesn't work. I do love what I hear from development on CM10 but I dont want to flash it yet unless you can move apps to external Sd card. I wonder is there a script or something I can flash thru Clockwork as a zip or do I have to push a file thru ADB
Ah Ok my bad ...It doesn't work on CM10 .Sorry about that rchad28 , did say i never tried it. Hope you find a solution soon tho !
Yeah a Grammar Nazi is just a troll that thinks it a bad ass lol .
Thanks Sean, yeah since I did not see a fix for CM9 just want wondering if there is APP to sd capabilities. But it all good. I will continue searching for my answers.
Ok soo I am thinking about rooting my Sony Ericsson and I wanted too know if it's worth it or not.. I know there are alot of great apps that you can get.. but I heard that you can get free 3g when you root you're device, is this true? and also I wanna know if I shouldn't root my phone and just not take the risk..
I also have a problem with the phone typing by itself sometimes and I have to restart it a few times and it quits and goes back to normal.. any help on this?

lol.. u won't get free 3g after rooting..someone trolled you!!
rooting will void ur software warranty of phone!
But it has it's own advantages, u could use custom rom and save battery, RAM through tweaks!
you could get hardware acceleration via Cyanogenmod and play certain games which are not compatible with ur phone!
Find ur device forum for more details! Just use search bar on the top right corner!
as for ur problem, dust and moisture can cause this..remove screen protector and wipe the screen and apply new protector
if problem persists, show it to service if u are under warranty!
My advice is always the same.
Find a reason to root your device before just doing it.
A custom recovery can be nice, but do you really need one ?
Custom ROMs can be nice, but do you want to take the risks they come with ? Just scroll through these forums and see all the posts about people who have bricked their devices - even people who had good experience and knew what they were doing. Sometimes things go wrong - are you willing to pay to have your device repaired if you brick it ?
Rooting alone opens you up to some security risks - so there's really no point in rooting unless you have a plan about what you want to do with it and understand the risks and what you can do to make sure you don't do something bad.
Yeah, these things can do some cool stuff - and if you would like it it can be worth it. But if you don't really care, it's not.
Do some research. Decide what you want to do.
I rooted my Desire for two reasons: 1 To upgrade to ICS
2 To run many apps without
filling up my internal memory. I'm really happy with the result and
if i find support for Android 5.0 in the future i'll go for it.
If you use it as a phone only don't risk it.
I have another question.. If I root my phone.. will I get the latest updates? Cause my phone only has 2.3.3 and I see alot of people will 4.0 and I was wondering if I do root it .. is it possible to get 4.0 or greater than 2.3.3?
and thanks for helping me

Okay, there are two kinds of "updates". You can still get OTA carrier updates with root only, but you may lose root in doing so.
Then there are custom ROMs. I have no idea if an ICS ROM is available for your phone - Google it or search the forum and see. Beware that these typically do not work 100% perfectly. If there is a custom ROM depends in if someone put the time into making it or not.

If you root your phone you won't have to worry about updates from your carrier, nor will you want it. All you will do is keep up with the thread of the ROM of your choice and see if the developer has updated the ROM. As far as getting a certain version of Android for your phone it's all entirely on the phone you have. Look around for a forum for your specific device and check their development section to see what ROMs they have available for you.
Hey Guys .!
I have Recently Rooted me Gnex cuz its have been stoped getting updates ,
But then i figure out that Root & ROM'S are more fun tho
so basically im a rookie at this and i wanna know that is there any damage to the if we use the unofficial roms like ( slimkat 4.4 , [CM-11.0] [KRT16S] Dreams or CM11 )

It is pretty safe. If you are worried, wait for other people to try it first
I had a Gnex for two years, running mostly AOKP. You can trust all of the recognized developers here at XDA. If you don't want to risk it, ALWAYS make an nandroid backup.
About the only time you may damage a device is by installing a ROM for a different device. As @justmpm mentioned, if you're having doubts about a particular ROM wait for someone else to post their findings to see then if you wish to try it or not.
Take your time and READ, READ, READ... That is the biggest mistake made around here. People see something they want and just jump in to it without doing any research or doing minimal research. There's in nothing wrong with being cautious.
make a nice backup and go on the safe side!

Hi there.
Yes it is safe as long as
1- You make complete backup
2- Follow proper guide to root and install your rom
3- If you are rookie. Try those roms that have already been tested and running smoothly by others.
Hope that will help you out
Of course bad things could happen also don't forget those same problems could occur with a factory OTA update.
Besides that you could end up with features on your device either gone or broken which I imagine could also happen with a factory rom.
None of them are 100% perfect and safe it is just something you have to accept and take measures before hand to be sure you have backups and/or find knowledge you need to bring your device back from the dead.
These are also all reasons NO ONE should EVER blindly start flashing things to their device without doing some reasearch which is where most problems come from.
Just inform yourself about what you are doing and a lot of things are pretty safe to do or try.
This is about the best advice that could be given I just realized I kinda took the long way around of saying mostly the same thing haha.

Well , If you flash a compatible ROM with your device correctly , nothing will go wrong !
but always take a nandroid backup just in case
the things that can harm your phone most of the time are just kernel related just don't overclock the CPU too much and do your best to avoid kernel tweaks
and every ROM on here has a list of bugs ! so using a custom ROM is totally safe BUT you need to check the bugs list before

No, there's no problem if you flash it properly.....
I have bricked my Gionee GN 100 with a custom rom from another brand but it was the same model. So, take extreme care. I'm also not sure how to fix it. I have some backups but I used only cat. Screen is totally black the phone is technically dead.

Sorry to scare you just giving you realistic info.
Basically flash nothing without researching what you are doing is the biggest point to be taken.
Pretty much what's already been said about making sure the rom is for your specific advice. Usually it's just a soft brick if you flash the wrong rom. The real damage comes using custom kernels the wrong way. i.e. overclocking the cpu/gpu too much. That can cause permanent hardware failure...
I hard briocked my galaxy s3 and had to send it out to to be Jtaged. It was my bad though, just be careful and double check your files prior to flashing. Have ODIN on your computer and be ready to reflash as stock image if you mess somehting up too
I have messed up flashing loads of times and even when I thought my phone(s) was gone for good, I always found a way to bring it back...even if it takes a few hours/days haha...

Odin doesn't work for all devices. Some OMAP devices like Galaxy Tab, your S3, and a few others.

you will be fine as long as you read and follow directions exactly as they are posted. There is always a possibility damage, but if you are careful, you will be fine.
Hi, im a newbie on this forum so im sorry if im making any mistake. I have xperia sola from September 2012. it was
working well untill almost a year back. Check this
I'm having same problem since then , maybe because of overcharging or maybe because I had some battery
monitoring apps installed. so from a year or so my phone cant stay up for more than 10mins and im living through
it, at first i had no idea how to fix it but when i checked sony forum i got to know it can be repaired by SUS/SOny
pc companion. I know all the steps about installing ics because i have done it by myself after buying this
phone.but now i cant because i have slow internet it will take forever to download it and there is no Sony service
center in my city. I searched about cyanogenmod and I really feel like trying it on my phone but im scared
because I haven't played with the ROM thing ever so i may brick the phone and then blame the developers. I can
download all the files required for cyanogenmod overnight on my phone and transfer them to laptop and do the
further steps. but the problem is , what if my phone turns off during installation process? will it get bricked? and
will it even solve the battery issue?
ok i cant post links over here i was just posting sony forum's thread.my phone's battery has problems it drops
from 100% to 0% from 90% to 0% , just at any point, i cant use my phone without charger being plugged in
Sir, you can check this for CM for XSola(the one by munjeni is bit old. Use the new one by XperiaSTE team)- [ROM] [UB] [XperiaSTE] CyanogenMod 11 and it won't hardbrick during flashing this, though if in anycase it turns off, the kernel supports offline charging Rest can be seen there.
Advice: Flash only after fully charging battery. Also I'll recommend you to try battery from some other phone. Also check these threads-

Cheers,

You may also want to try if there's a wakelock problem, or try doing a factory reset just in case an app is eating you battery?
PS this is in addition to my reply to your other post
