(list) cm11 "apps safe to remove" - HTC One Mini

Hi All
I have been trying to slim my CM11, getting rid of unnecessary apps that i feel are taking up valuable space on my “mini”.
After hours of Google searches and many trial n error Rom flashes, I have came up with a comprehensive list of “apps” that are safe to remove". Some of my info was found on CM’s WIKI(that was based on cm10.1) page but most was down to laborious ROM flashing and testing.
***THIS CAN ALSO BE USED WITH OTHER CM BASED ROMS SUCH AS SLIMKAT,PAC-MAN, LUNGO ETC**
Most will know this BUT for those that don’t this is how i slim it down.
1. Download Rom
2. Extract the Rom
3. Delete All that you don’t want or need
4. Copy over your apk’s into the relevant folders
5. Highlight META-INF,System,Boot & File_contexts, Right click and send to zip
6. Copy your zip (renaming if you want) to phone and flash.
View attachment 2871025
**needs updating, removing some apps may cause other apps/process to fail up to build m7 **
Hope it Helps
HIT "THANKS" IF ITS HELPED, CHEERS

Thanks man :good:

Yes thats a comprehensive list alright, thanks & nice work - appreciated!

Thanks:good: Nice work

How much RAM and Flash did it saved you to removed all the apps you suggested?

I not suggesting to remove all of them, if you did you would have a pretty useless phone. Some of the ones I removed I replaced with other apps... Some of the other apps were larger in size, some were smaller. For example I removed appollo and replaced it with power amp.... No point having a second music app on my phone taking up space I will never use.

Thanks very much for that list, it's very interesting! I keep removing apps I don't use on CM, I hope I'll be able to help you enhance your file.
That's sad, team Cyanogenmod should add their apps as a separate package, as some of us are trying to get a minimalistic Android to use with our favorite apps.

Thanks for the your feedback, it's appreciated. Yeah I really need to sit down and update this, as there are new apk's such as "cmhome" (amongst others) that I need to add. Was thinking about trying to make an aroma de-bloater for cm based roms... But... There hasn't been much response to this thread, albeit over 3900 views. Feel free to take the existing list, add or amend as you wish. Cheers

as i mentioned earlier, i need to update the list. you can delete theme provider if your not bothered about changing theme, otherwise keep it!
the easiest way to slim it down is to remove some of the audio. eg ringtones, notifications etc. as most of them are crap and doubt you will use them. cheers

M8 brings several changes in the apps. I tested some stuff (updated M8 from M7) :
CMAccount.apk may cause problems (removed it, then added it again and going back to home was running first time assistant).
Lockclock.apk can't be removed anymore, it causes androidui error at boot (up to M7 it could be removed) because there's no way anymore to disable it. You can delete it, but at start there's at least one message box to close.
I removed lots of safe apps, but no way, I got random bugs :
Apollo, Basic Dreams, Browser, CellBroadcastReceiver, CMFileManager, CMWallpapers, DownloadProviderUI, DSPManager, Email, Exchange2, Galaxy4, LatinIME, Mms, PhaseBeam, VideoEditor, VoicePlus, WhisperPush.
I eventually went back to M7, it caused too many bugs for me (FC at start, random wallpaper errors, ...).
I think I'm going to build a M8 zip with all apks I don't want in a bak folder, add some GApps and some of my apps/data and flash from full wipe, I guess the M8 needs to regarding problems I have with...
---------- Post added at 07:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:10 PM ----------
Oh, by the way I guess I may script a cleaner. It would be easier for me and I would share it with no problem.
Just make sure you've ADB, debugging enabled, USB cable and pop corn

Hi guys, what about CM home.apk in /system/priv-app? What is it and it's safe to remove?

Not had cm on my device in a while, but I believe cmhome is similar to Google now and it ties in with trebuchet. Try deleting it, shouldn't cause any problems.

Yupp! But if you remove lockclock.Apk and deskclock.Apk you lose clock on homescreen and locksreen, I left them in as I think most folk use them. I also noticed if you replace them with 3rd party ones from play store they tend to have higher battery drain. Cheers

Very sorry to reawaken this thread.
It states "Move preferred apk to zip before flashing the rom." What do you mean by that?
I want to replace the stock keyboard & stock file manager,
so I just have to replace the LatinIME.apk & CMFileManager.apk with respective apks?
No need for changing the new-keyboard name to "LatinIME.apk"
or
Make any changes in the code, as in change the default code which points to LatinIME as the default and instead map it to new-keyboard,
Right?
Also, can I delete WAPPushManager, UserDictionaryProvider & CellBroadcastReceiver?
Sorry for the trouble.

AOSP apks?

Hey everyone. I have decided to get rid of some HTC apks and replace them with AOSP apks. (Music, Dialer, Browser, etc.) I am not 100% sure on which ones I will be replacing, but can someone provide a download for AOSP apks? That would be awesome because I know I can download a few ROMs here and then take out the AOSP apks, but my internet is REALLY slow, so that would take forever. Also, feel free to let me know on which ones I should take out and why. I would really like a second opinion on what all can be replaced and if replacing any would help. Let me know! Thanks to the one who uploads the apks!

Definitely replace HTC mms. AOSP mms is so much faster, especially if you're using the AOSP keyboard. The email gives you a combined inbox, which is kind of nice - but attachments might not download properly. Music is nice and fast, but you don't get the lockscreen controls. Contacts/dialer is kinda personal preference. Browser always shows the taskbar and addressbar, unlike the HTC browser; it also seems a bit faster from startup. However, doubletap zoom might not work. Oh, the AOSP browser wont work without the com.cyanogenmod.android.jar and com.cyanogenmod.android.xml files (those are found in roms, so you might be out of luck with the browser...)
these apks are from Darch's roms.
What's needed to get AOSP contacts.apk to work with my awesome DCv2.06 setup? I imagine some framework is not in place - something deep like that?
Attempted to install (thought it would fail or at least not work if it did install) and it said 'Not Installed' and an OK button.

You have to push it in to system/app ... installing from a file explorer should only work for the email apk.

stuckinstupid...PLEASE change your name (Because you're stuckonsmart!), because you just got me the dialer I've always wanted! I didn't think to pull it from anyone, and further more, I didn't think to push it. I kept installing it.
thanks for the AOSP dialer i been looking for it for awhile now thanks
now im trying to decide on which MMS app i want to use i like the AOSP one better than the HTC one but it won't let you send V-cards(contact card) via MMS.

Naw, you're going to have to choose one or the other...renaming the apk won't rename the actual app

Mms --> push/replace mms.apk in system/app
contacts--> push/without replacing anything...you have to keep the HTC dialer alongside the AOSP dialer
music--> push and delete HTCmusc.apk in system/app
email--> push/without replacing anything OR simply install with file browser...you can have both HTC mail and AOSP mail at the same time
REMEMBER TO BACKUP REPLACED APKS TO SDCARD

For the browser, remove the existing browser.apk, replace it with the AOSP browser.apk, THEN you must place these files in the corresponding paths in your rom:

Lol. Was just about to say I just pushed Contacts.apk to my phone (running Fresh 2.0d) and it works perfectly .
EDIT** Only thing I have found not working with Contacts.apk from AOSP is how they are listed. If you go into contacts, you can see them listed correctly (alphabetically) but the displayed alphabet is technically incorrect (if that makes any sense). For example, the names are in the correct order, but the "A" is listed under "W" even though it is up top as it should be.

Just added it. Use the Contacts.apk that someone attached above and you have to push it to your phone as a /system/app through ADB. Nothing to it. Works great, no modification needed.
Most importantly it allows you to select which groups from your contacts in google that you want to sync. An option that broke or was removed in all 2.1 based roms out right now.

Thanks for posting this.
I'm still having some trouble getting Contacts.apk on my Hero. I'm running DC 2.072.
I'm able to successfully push the Contacts.apk from this thread with the command adb push Contacts.apk /sytem/app while in recovery mode. When I rebooted, though, I couldn't find it on the phone. There's no "Contacts" app, and the only "Phone" app is the HTC one.
Any suggestions?? I have also previously tried installing the APK by copying it to the SD card and then using an app installer, but the install would either fail, or I would get an FC when launching the phone app.

[Alpha ROM Builder] Create Custom Application Backup-Removal Update.zip

Joeykrim's Custom Android Application Backup and Removal Update.zip
Disclaimer: Use this at your own risk.
ALPHA version - not very pretty. quick and dirty but its working!
Description:
The default is nothing. If you select nothing, it does nothing. This will ONLY backup and remove the applications manually selected.
This does not effect anything on the /data partition - meaning no data or settings will be changed by using this update.zip
Background:
This will allow stock applications (.apk and .odex) to be backed up to the sdcard (/sdcard/sdx/backup) and removed from the phone (/system/app). If an app is selected to be removed and its already removed, the script will keep going, it will not result in any kind of error or boot loop.
Requirements:
Custom Recovery - Few Suggestions:
[RECOVERY] Permanently replacing your recovery with ClockworkMod Recovery Image
[Recovery] [18-June-2010] RA-evo-v1.7.0.1 - Not compatible because it forces all .zip files to be signed and this online kitchen doesn't java sign the .zip files. In order to stay compatible, please manually sign the .zip file.
Instructions:
Check any combination of boxes below to combine actions into one custom-SDX-update.zip file.
Download this file and put it onto the /sdcard of the phone.
Boot into a recovery mode using a custom recovery (reboot recovery from adb shell or vol down + power).
Select Apply Update.zip and choose the zip.
Reboot.
Let me know if it works, doesn't work, etc. Thanks!
NEW HOST
http://www.joeyconway.me/evo/custom/index.php
Added more applications to the list. If there is an application which isnt on there that you want added, please post it and I'll add it!
To Do List: - Please post what you want added!
Add more safe apps to remove
Add boot animations
Custom Kernels
Themes
Potentially Other ROMS
Moment to Evo you make it happen

yes, .odex files are also removed, ive added that to the directions.
i also added everything you mentioned above. for the stock and news apks, i might have missed one but tried to grab them all, i read if they are removed there are sync issues ... haven't heard it confirmed either way so i added a warning.
thanks for the feedback. hope it works? let me know!
Joey, so good to see your skills being applied over here! One quick question, if we use this removal script and select an app that is already removed, will it cause any issues like a bootloop or failure? Or would if just ignore the missing app and move on?

good question. i can add this to my main post.
if you select an app which is already removed, it will attempt to remove it again and when it finds it not there, it will skip over it. will not cause a bootloop or any kind of failure!
update: added a few more requested apps to the list! let me know if there is anything else!
easy as can be, worked great!
Works great to remove not so much putting back unless there is a trick to it. I can't get mail to reinstall or nav

good point!
perhaps i could add a feature that allows apps removed using this method to be restored using this method.
putting back should be simple thru adb. i'd recommend doing it from recovery.
adb shell
cp /sdcard/sdx/backup/Mail.* /system/app/Mail.* (this will copy apk and odex if you're using a ROM with odex)
hopefully that helps! thanks for the feedback!

How to install gingerbread stock camera or MIUI camera app on ICS stock ROM ?

Hello
Tried install both of these on stock ICS and checked "unknown source" , didn't allow me ...
Can I do it using CWMR ?
Thanks
im not sure if this will work but its worth a shot.
when youre in the rom that you want a system application from get the app called "system app backup" i believe cm made it but dont quote me. Then backup the app you want and save it to your sd card. after copy it to your computer and install the rom you want to have on your phone, once again install system app backup on your phone and recover the app you would like to have on your system.
the only thing that i have done close to this is replace the stock launcher.apk with "launcher 7".
always remember to backup, and if this works let me know!

You might have luck with the MIUI camera but the GB one is most likely a no go (all kinds of changes in ICS that should prevent GB system apps from working). If you really want to try it then you can use a file explorer with super user permissions (estrongs or root explorer come to mind) and move the .apk to /system/app and change the permissions to match other system apps.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but in case someone actually stumbles on it, here is the answer.. this should be easy. If you can get apktools working on your computer(google is your friend) you decompile the app you want, along with the app it would be in conflict with. The android system has a list of SYSTEM apps that are able to use the same features.. anyways, once you decompile both apks, copy the manifest.xml and meta-info folder(and contained folder) from the built in app(in this case the ICS camera) into the decompiled app you want to install(gingerbread camera), then you recompile the one you want to add(you can just leave the original app installed and delete the one you decompiled). Make sure you give the gingerbread app a different name, and it will work. Literally, I just tested it(it is that quick and easy once you have apktools setup), and it seems to install/work just fine.
Some FEATURES of the app might not work- like you may not be able to preview the pictures you take with it in the system gallery, but all the settings and whatnot of the actual camera app should be built into the apk itself-- besides 4.0.3+ has app associations, you may be able to use that to get some features working by making it your default camera..
Anyways, pretty sure that would help- good luck.

Helow my Friend.I want a step wise instruction . Can you please post it
i attached 2 versions of Miui apk. V 1.7 i think is latest i could find. Tested by me in my stock 4.0.4 Nexus S.

[APPS] Oct 5th 2017, UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM APPS (6.0.1) touchwiz

(just want to start by saying that these work on my tmobile note 3, and I've used roms such as magma, phonesis, etc. Basically 6.0.1 TouchWiz roms)
So I made two zips here. One Is full of apps I pulled from my system/apps, and the other I pulled from priv/apps. Basically as the roms age and rarely get updates (our phone is kinda old in this tech world), our apps don't get updates either. So I've spent some time pulling apps from various bits and pieces, in search for the newest ones that are ported, and will work for our phone. Feel free to share if you know of newer versions of these. I'm always looking. And if you're looking for the best root explorer to install stuff, search mixplorer.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4wJefnTAS03eURveFRQUF8yWE0/view?usp=drivesdk
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4wJefnTAS03YTlNazFleVp1NmM/view?usp=drivesdk
Just want to add, as a precaution, make sure you do a nandroid backup before trying these, and I usually back up any apps I'm replacing, just in case they don't work and I have to throw the old one back in the mix.
Not newest versions of apps...
Checked zip's, very old apps, there are more never versions. Let's example, Samsung Clock 6.5.93.
And many-many more apps...

Really?? Please point me in some kind of direction. I searched like an idiot forever, an these are all i can come up with. I mean, I'm not asking to give me a thousand links, but is there one thread that posts them? Or a newer rom that I'm not seeing? I'll delete my post if thats the case. Or update it. Or set it on fire.

I tried installing the clock app, and got a parsing error. Is that app made For 7.1.1 or 6.0.1, because im only interested In marshmallow apps. Or is there a way to get around the app being for nougat?
you better off downloading mm roms, extracting apk with all extra files (folders, libs, etc) than making a flashable zip with it to set up the right permissions, etc.
or
flash the rom you want to get the apks from and install titanium backup, press the check mark located on top right, scroll down to create "update.zip" check the apps you want. this will create a flashable zip to restore the apps with all the permissions and folders done right. so just go back to the rom you had (must be touchwiz) go to recovery and flash the update.zip

[Script]MIUI-Debloat

Hey guys, i've made a MIUI Debloat Script for ALL MIUI based ROMs (even Chinese as i included crap apps such as Baidu to debloat exclusive from that ROM). The idea is to keep a simple and clean system. You also can install a Full Hosts File so you can block ads without installing a third party app.
Tested on mi-Globe
To install download the MIUI-Debloat.zip or MIUI-Debloat-Safe.zip or MIUI-Debloat-Full.zip and Hosts.zip
Download:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=296356
Instructions:
HOW TO INSTALL?
Flash the Debloat zip AFTER the first boot and initial setup!!
1 - Download and save the choosen zip file to the folder that you use to flash zips.
2 - Reboot to TWRP recovery.
3 - Make a FULL nanobackup on TWRPs "BACKUP" section (data, system, vendor, boot, all you can/need).
4 - Select the zip you just downloaded and flash it.
5 - If you want, flash the hosts.zip after.
7 - Reboot.
What apps will it exclude from my system?
MIUI-Debloat Setting:

How do I add apps in that list bro??
Gonna try it later.
Just flashed it, rebooted normally, checking for review. I'm on miui 10 Global beta.
All folders apps are there NO CHANGES FELT

One of the apps that i debloat is GreenGuard.
I have no idea of what it do, nor i noted anything missing or something broke on the phone.
If Anyone know what it do and if it is essential, tell me so i can update the script by not debloating this app.
All others i'm positive.

Hey M8, you need to download notepad++ on Windows and 7-zip.
Save the zip file on Windows and open with 7-zip
There navegate to
META-INF/com/google/android/
and extract the file "updater-script"
Edit it with notepad++ and add the files you wish there
drag and drop the new file on the zip folder that it was and it's ready

Ok i just tested, it worked for me. Idk what is the issue.
Wow, thank you very much.
There's a long list of bloatware to freeze or uninstall, I'll try to find it again and share it, maybe you can add to the script.

Hey M8, how are you doing?
I use Orange Fox (the latest version) too so it isn't the problem.
The only things i can thing are:
If your Orange Fox isn't mounting the system partition or if it's mounting it as Read only. Do you know if it display a error message after you flash the script?
2nd is that most MIUI core things that it debloat wont show for you (except if you seek for them with an app such as link2SD) and the things that show on the launcher, such as the Google assistant/Search app, will still be there if you at a point updated it via playstore.
Why? Well once we update a system app via playstore, it wont re-write the app on the system partition, it will create a new one on the DATA partition.
Try to uninstall it via the Playstore and check if after, the green button appear to Install it, or to Update it.
If it show Install, the script did work as the system app was removed and now you removed the data trace.
If it show Update, then it still is there and i have no idea why.
Guys, i've made a new script called MIUI-Debloat-safe.zip
It is the same, how ever it don't remove some core apps.
Why? Here is where i may need your help, with a older version of the script (one that was exact the same as the "safe" version i actually had better Deep Sleep. Maybe there is such a thing of remove too much, as google gapps check for one and another.
What it wont remove?
/system/app/greenguard
/system/priv-app/GoogleBackupTransport
/system/priv-app/GoogleFeedback
/system/priv-app/GoogleRestore
/system/priv-app/MiRecycle
I do, how ever recomend to use an app such as AppDisable to freeze GreenGuard, as when i had epic Deep Sleep, it was frozen so you guys can test if it is indeed better or not this "older" version of the script.
Maybe i'm wrong as each battery cycle is different, but still i think i own you guys to share this.
If you want to test it, make 3 battery cycles with the normal script and check the deep sleep statistics.
Then reflash the ROM (to re install the apps it debloated) and flash the safe debloat script.
Check the statistics on 3 battery cycles that are close to the ones you did with the first and report to me.
If the "safe" version indeed is better with BB and you frozen the GreenGuard system app, i'll remove the normal version and make a new one that is exactly as the safe one, but without the GreenGuard app to test.

file explorer is needed. yes you can install another from playstore but sometimes its needed. example if i have a theme in sd card. to choose theme in my case using solid explorer it doesnt allow me to select browse file. if file explorer is present then you can select or browse for file.
i have my own debloater too.

Thanks, i'll check the other list out.
About the File explorer, i also use Solid Explorer and if on system things i work with Document provider, it work fine to me (then on it i open solid explorer on the swipe bar). But i'll update the safe script to keep File Explorer and Email
