Ours is 2.3, but the versions sold internationally (or something like that) are apparently 2.5. Or at least that's what I read somewhere.

I actually had no idea at all what you were talking about. I even looked in the General and Help sub-forums, and I don't see any specs listed anywhere, at least not in any sort of official thread. So for all I knew, you actually saw some form somewhere that had the CPU speeds listed.

The main level/starting page for all of the Verizon M8 sub forums..General, q&a, etc. The specs for the Verizon M8 are posted there.
It's not that big of deal...but then why not just post in the specs that our phone also has 3GB of RAM and runs the newest Android 4.5 (Licorice) if we're padding stats lol.

They did jack with it and it's now permanent rootable along with the mt4g. People like to be challenged.
From a phone
It will eventually come to all but the nexus series of phones and the geeksphone, and the XDA community will find a way to disable that chip in time.
Why post an article that holds no weight to our phone? And that phone is rooted already.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
If the phone reverts to the original software, how are they ever going to do updates?
I have a feeling that there is a way to make permanent changes. It will just take time for someone to figure it how their updates work.

I was wondering how the hell it was supposed to work without showing all launcher screens or showing the power off/reboot prompt.

I guess we'll just have to use an app to accomplish this for the time being? However, I think that app called shootme requires a root...hhmm

Actually, from closer inspection you're right. You can even see one of the videos he clicks on "about theme" in a settings menu.
There's also some links that 1/2 the people say it works but it's slow, and 1/2 the people say it bricked their phone.
Why do you want Android on such an old device anyway? I know it's not helping you get what you've asked for but you should just consider an upgrade.

Nice choice my friend. I have a Galaxy S2 and it's a great phone. If I didn't have it I'd be going for a Note myself.
Just wait till you get that - it'll be well worth it
After a lot of testing I have to the conclusion that the ROMs and images from the S4 cpu versions of One S is NOT compatible with the ones with the S3 cpu variants!
This includes ROM and CWM. This means also for now there is way to root the S3 one s variants. If you try flash the cwm anyway...you will screw your recovery and you can no longer hard reset the phone.

All T-Mobile ones will have the S4. The S3 models are only for certain Asian and European markets.
Still though that may be true I haven't checked I still think the forum should be divided by version bases EU, UK, US etc.
Even if it had to be done by sub forum for VB it's really easy to do and would clear up a lot of issues people are having over here.
Duh? Isn't this an obvious warning? Does it really need a thread? Who the hell would flash a kernel made for another soc to their phone?

Because you have not used a one S that's why you don't know. There is no way to tell physically whether the One S has an S3 or an S4 processor. No markings, no physical differences, no model name differences on the box, nothing at all. This means to most people, a one s is a one s, most people do not know there is even two versions until they flash it and its too late.

Additionally...because literally everyone assumes there is only one version of the one s, nobody states that whether their rom or cwm is for the s3 or S4 version...making it a real bummer... but as of now, unless someone specifically mentions its for the s3, DO NOT try to root or flash an image for you one s, because literally none of them out there are for one s for now
Are there any RUU's for the S3 version ?
I think the only conflicting issue would be the boot.img, so if you just flash that along with a S4 ROM you should be fine.
as for CWM, I assume there will be a line of code which specifies which device it is for, Edit it to the S3 version (VilleC?) and all should be fine.
As for the root package, That should require a simple updater-script edit and it will work !
As I told on another thread.
If partitions are the same (we need someone to check if true) the S4 roms should work with the S3 variant except for the Kernel and the boot.img . I guess a new cwm would be needed too

This is XDA we are a huge community, don't tell me we can't and nobody ever thought about asking around people's serials, part number, FCC ID and look for differences. They CAN'T be no differences. Anyway, the S3 models are 1.7GHz and the GHz is writen on the back of the box.
Yes, It will state on the box which version it is. And also in HBOOT it will say VILLEC So users will know before flashing which model they have.
If it becomes too big of a problem, Im sure we can get the mods to add a sub section. But they wont open one until we have some development and tutorials for it, Other wise it will be empty
I have requested that we get a S3 Development forum for this phone. We had a previous war about splitting the forums, but in this case, I think it's warranted. There's a decent difference here, so this distinction needs to be made and understood.

Definitely, I don't want to get crippled/bricked/whatever because a dev forget to write S3 or to state clearly S3. If the Tegra and S4 One X forums are TOTALLY separate, we should at least get a sub forum for each S3 and S4!

Fragmentation is relative. Also a dumb term for dumb pple that have lost the arguement. A windows notepad doc has zero "fragmentation" what does that prove. And what a term to coin by steve jobs. Since its "fragmented" u say stevie, can i use a defragmenter. No wonder pple call rooting jail breaking on apple. First because theres no legitimate intelligent third party development and second because its a virtual prison cell. The apple wardens hate to see cracks in the concrete and bars. Apple will never match 4.0 however long they try. Cant compare a prison cell to a full stadium.

Here's hoping one of you talented developers can make a one-click root tool for the Verizon SGSIII. I have kind of fallen in love with the WugFresh toolkit for the GNex.
Just pre-ordered it tonight in time to keep my unlimited data, can't wait to get it in my hands and get a real taste of CM9  Gotta get TouchWiz off of there pronto...

In general, yes. Since all US variants are using the same SOC, just different modems, there should be no issues with cross-pollenating root methods.
In practice, we won't know until things start getting into peoples' hands.
Personally, I'm finding it difficult to sit and wait until week-after-next (my estimated ship date is 7/11) to get mine.

Problem is, I'm spoiled. I have a Galaxy Nexus that I opened another line for, so I used the upgrade on my line that I got now in order to ensure I keep my unlimited data for another two years. My mom will be getting my Nexus.
Now here's the part where I'm spoiled- the SGSIII is a superior phone, that much most people can agree on. However, the SGSIII is running Touchwiz over ICS (4.0.4?). My Nexus is running stock 4.1. It's gonna take some getting used to going back to ICS, even if Jelly Bean has only been public for a day or so.
I believe the International S3's are able to get the 4.1 update now.
I don't see us being to far behind once we actually get our devices from big red.
