[Q] How much would you ask for your nexus? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off I'm not trying to advertise but I'm going to sell my two black 16gb devices.
So out of curiosity what would you ask for or
What would you pay for one? Something fair obviously under googles price tag.
Assuming they are mint condition lol

Just check your local classifieds and see what they are selling for. And decide from there. Low to sell fast, high if you're in no rush.
That's definitely the best way to sell anything.
Sent from my N5, N7, Moto X, G Tab 3 or S2.....

Eh. I'd say $330 for a used one in mint condition with no accessories.

Take a look and summary on eBay...

Once again as a disclaimer, as I do not want to break forum rules. This is not meant to be advertising
Thanks for the quick replies
I have mine listed as $200 mint with sg ballistic case.
There's no local listings for nexus 5 phones and any
People that have messages me have acted like I'm asking too much?
I think that's fair considering google lists the phone new at $350
Do you guys think I'm asking a fair price based on your locale?

More than fair. It's actually too low if in mint condition. I don't think anyone's selling them that cheap.
I can only imagine they see a low price and are trying to drive you down even further.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Search eBay for completed listings so you can see what they're selling for. Also search for what the used case is selling for too. But being that it's yours, ultimately it is your decision as to what you want for it. I think $200 in mint condition + case is more than a fair asking price.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I would list it for $270
Remember that the website will charge you around
$15 between ebay and PP for total listing + post sale charges.
The fact that Google subsidies its cost, doesn't mean that we have to do the same thing again
They wont get a similar phone for that low.

I would see what they are going for on Swappa.Com (list it, it is free and their fee of $10 is added to what you ask), ask for more than that on Craigslist, and Ebay will get you more, but have higher fees.

This. Swappa is a great resource to see what phones are selling for.
I use Swappa for almost all of my tech buys and sells. It is free to list and $10 for a sell (paid for by the buyer, so if you list for $200, the buyer sees the price as $210). So you just pay shipping (and technically $10 since you lost out on buyer's $10 to Swappa). eBay takes like 10% + shipping. I always forget this until I get my eBay invoice and realize I took huge losses when I thought I broke even. I sell a $300 tablet, I end up with like $245 after eBay fees, shipping, and PayPal fees. Craigslist is good if you're in a city, but it is terrible for rural areas. Sometimes I find good deals on there, but when I'm selling, no one wants to pay me asking price.

Thanks fellas. The phones are mint.
And you were spot on when you said people kept asking for a cheaper price.
But to be honest I just sold them for what I owed to t-mobile, as I just wanted out of their
Financing because I has a bad experience on their network lol.
But they just finally sold about an hour ago. He called himself a "phone geek" so I'm sure he knew what a deal it was!!

I would suggest you to go through the online selling rates on E bay or Amazon , do a research on the maximum selling price. You would get to know the current rates I am very sure. :good:

Phones were sold about 14 hours ago.
While this didn't "specifically" break any rules with regards to selling on the site, it was very, very close. Even so much as listing the price at an almost invitation for PMs about it type of nature.
Regardless, the phones are sold, Thread Closed.

Captivate is now 1 CENT!!

Friend just emailed me....the Captivate is now just 1 cent. Not a bad deal, eh?

This is Amazon, much like WireFly,LetsTak and any other reseller they can price the phone at whatever price theyd like since they make comission off the monthly plans more so than the actual hardware. Theyll take a big hit ($200-$300) on the phone in order to make it back up with the plan.
BTW this is for new contracts only via Amazon, renewals are still $99 and Family is $149.
I just ordered one from Amazon for a penny. So long Sprint and so long samsung moment (blech)
I ordered mine from Amazon along with 3 other phones on a new family plan with 1400 minutes. Total cost after shipping: $.04.
makes me feel I made a mistake getting the phone in the first place. Good thing I like the phone.

Why would you feel like you made a mistake getting the phone if you like it just b/c the price went down? Hell, I paid $175 for mine (Family plan upgrade-secondary line) and I'm still happy with my purchase. I agree that it is annoying to see them offer such good deals for new users and screw over "loyal" customers though...
AT&T charged me $100, they gave me the $100 discount for being a loyal customer. Funny thing is i joined when the iPhone 3G came out.
I tried to get my wife to get it for 1 cent but she insists on getting the EVO, loyal yo sprint.

Loyal enough to pay 240 dollars more over the length of her contract? I've been with Sprint for 5 years and I'm not THAT loyal to them

To be fair Amazon's a dealer like Wirefly. They make nothing on the sale of phones but get paid on selling the contracts. The Captivate is 99 dollars if you are renewing or adding a line on Amazon. Still a better deal than anywhere else. As a NEW AT&T customer I would have spent $199 on the phone at the AT&T store. I was all about to buy a Vibrant yesterday for 70 bucks on Amazon when I found the penny deal on the Captivate. So here I am.
Difference is, when you buy it from the AT&T store, they cover your warranty for the year - and their warranty is great.
If you buy it anywhere else, you have to deal with Samsung directly unless you get lucky and AT&T ships you a replacement regardless.

Not so much a mistake, I am happy with my purchase. It's just the price that we pay to get the best in tech before everyone else.
I've never done that before, and used to tout that my motorola karma was pretty much the same thing as a smartphone.
Obviously I had no clue what I was talking about.

It's what I was told from AT&T and when I spoke to Letstalk, Wifefly and so on. But FWIW, people have stated that they just called AT&T and they sent them a replacement - but that could just be a YMMV. I would try to verify as well before you add insurance in case you don't need to.
But for $.01, I'm jealous!
Amazon has such a great rep that I doubt they'd have entered the Wireless sales business without some assurances from carriers. Wirefly has a shady rep from what I was able to google.
i paid full retail cause i wasnt up for upgrade... and thats for two phones too.. -_-. bye 1000
The thing many of you guys are not realizing is that this price and other similar deals are for completely new accounts only. Upgrades or even new family plan lines will bump up the price to $100-150. Under the circumstances most of the people I know who paid for Captivates, they wouldn't have saved any more money if they had waited, as everyone I know who has a Captivate was already an AT&T customer.
And quite frankly, while the Captivate is a great phone, it's not worth putting up with AT&T over if you're on a good carrier, especially since there is/will be a Galaxy S for all major carriers.

True, but reading through Amazons policy, they only support the phone for 30 days - as do all online retailers besides AT&T itself (they have a full year). Other online retailers pass the warranty to Samsung. But for the period Amazon does cover it - they have great customer service.
I'm not saying that's bad as I never dealt with Samsung for warranty purposes. I just know that AT&T deals with warranty issues very well. But regardless, $.01 for this phone is an amazing deal. The chance of needing a replacement post-30 days might not even occur for you - and if it does - you can always try AT&T for replacement.

Amazon

Amazon seems to be sellling this phone unlocked for $519.00. My friend is in the US at the moment and i was planning on having them next day ship it to him (Miami). Is this a good deal for a new unlocked Inspire from a reputable place or could you all suggest some other places?
Thanks for all the help everyone! Looking forward to becoming a part of this forum.
I would recommend buying the phone locked for cheaper, and unlock it using the tools available in the dev section.
Well considering I can't get it on contract, do you know where I might be able to find it at an off contract price that is less that what I listed above? Thanks for you help!
479 at amazon without contract.

+ tax as well.
Inspired from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
AT&T raised the price to $450 a few weeks back, in fact every smartphone went up $50. Plus tax as well... Better off ordering through Amazon.
Actually would have had to order it pretty early this morning to make sure it got to my friends hotel in time before him leaving. So I might just have him walk into an AT&T as you have suggested... Doesn't seem like it will be too much of a difference. Thanks again everyone! Have all been greatly helpful.

Best site/place to get a G2x no contract

I want to get a G2x off contract because i work at a radioshack and can go on tmobile's dealer plan if i buy the phone outright. I've checked ebay and craigslist which had pretty good prices but i was wondering if you guys knew of any other places that people may not generally go or know about.
I scoured Craigslist for a couple weeks and negotiated price with a few people until I found a deal I was comfortable with. I would think eBay and CL are going to be your best bet for getting a good deal buying it outright.

Off contracts it's gonna be pretty much the same price everywhere. I get a 10% discount at target so that kinda cancelled out the tax so I saved around $50

I just got one yesterday for $260 off Craigslist.

I'm going to watch craigslist for a cheap Sensation when its released too.
Usually about a month after release new phones start showing up on there for cheap.

If you plan on getting a good deal on craigslist you have to almost live on there.
Most really good deals are gone within a half hour from when its posted.
Mine had been on there half hour when I texted him that I'd take it.
I plan on getting a Sensation on there like that too.
Just bored on a saturday sitting on the PC waiting for something good.
i think costco and other retailer add a separate etf
Costco actually sells the phone off contract for 399.99
I got mine from Radio Shack for $450. Signed up for their credit card that gave me 10% off. Not the cheapest but still a pretty good price for this phone IMO.
I bought mine outright from T-Mobile, paid $250 up front but they let me finance the rest through my monthly bill. It's pretty awesome cause even with financing the other 250 bucks my cell phone bill is still $20 less than what it was with AT&T.

Best place to get new phone?

I'm up for a phone upgrade with Verizon and am wanting to get a Razr M for it's superior specs over my Droid 2 and the fact the Razr M isn't the size of a 5 subject notebook like so many of the new phones seem to be now.
That said I know I can get it from Verizon, but have noticed Best Buy and Radio Shack both have the phone. I've heard bad stories about Best Buy screwing up peoples contracts or accounts and haven't heard good or bad about Radio Shack.
Also right now the Razr M is free AFTER rebate from Verizon if I visit their store while I believe Best Buy and Radio Shack both are free out the door.
What are your thoughts? Is there another, better, place I should go and renew?
Costco. Hands down. Free accessory bundle with every phone, USUALLY cheapest price in town and a 90 exchange period. No brainer.

I got a very reasonable price from ebay because the legal backing from PayPal. PayPal will back the buyer in the event of a misleading advertisement. You still need to be careful and do your research, but ebay has my vote.
Depends on which manufacturer
Costco is good. Amazon maybe?
If you are willing to do it online then checkout wirefly or amazon wireless
If you want it in person then give best buy a try. The reason you hear so many horror stories is because they are the most popular non carrier store to get phones. They get it right more often then they get credit for. you don't have to worry about that rebate crap and they can set it all up if your not too tech savy. Plus occasionally they run promotions where people who upgrade through them get a $50 prepaid visa debit card
I worked at a Verizon store, trust me. I've had to deal with plenty of ****ed up accounts another vzw retailer screw up.

Square Trade Insurance

They are having a sale for the Galaxy S4.
$99 for a 2-year plan of you can pay $5.99 a month.
http://www.squaretrade.com/samsung-galaxy-warranty
Read the fine print - $99 deductible makes your insurance policy worth a total of $200, or, exactly what you paid for the phone (unless you got it at Walmart or Best Buy with the Phone Freedom)
Yes, I know that you're locked in for another 2 years and all that good stuff, but if you don't have a way of getting another phone on contract at any time, you should start looking in to that instead.... My point is, if you break the phone tomorrow, it will cost you the same price as if you pulled it from an on contract plan, but if you break it two or three months from now, it will be cheaper to get another on contract phone because that price is variable and will certainly drop compared to the Square Trade price that is fixed....
I was a huge fan of ST back in the day, but their prices now are just outrageous! A good case costs a max of what, 60 bucks? Sounds smarter than $99 plus whatever you're planning on getting already to protect the outside of the phone!

If you shatter the screen it's $99 to get it fixed with the insurance. Without insurance it's another $639 plus tax..
Sure you can add another line and get a new phone for $200.. Plus the added line of $10 a month, plus the added line smart phone data fee of $20 a month.. Adding another line will cost you $200 plus tax, plus $30 a month for 24 months..
Do the math over 2-years..

Then maybe you should look into that instead of wasting money on an intangible, inflated insurance policy! I have a finite amount of upgrades to use too, but at least I can get another phone quickly without having spent $99 for potentially no reason ahead of time....

It's not a better suggestion.. It's a ridiculous suggestion IMHO..
Your idea:
$199 for a new line to replace broken phone.. $30 a month ($10 for added line and $20 for cheapest data plan) x 24 month contract = $720 plus the $199 for phone = $920 total cost..
-vs-
Full price phone $640
-vs-
Square trade plan $99 plus $99 deductible = $200
Ya your way is better!

Thanks for not wanting to *help* me understand how doing it your way will cost $920 and doing it the insurance way will cost $200..
Preciate that.. LOL
Also. I have a friend who went through 2 iPhones in a year because of shattered screens..
Doing it your way she would have spent $400 just for upgrades never mind the monthly cost associated with having 2 extra lines. Now we are talking $400 just for contract price phones. Add in the monthly add a line and data fees for 2 phones and for 2-years and your idea / plan is even more asinine..
With Square Trade she spent a total of $300..
Oh well... To each their own..
Heres a couple coupon codes if someone wants to save a few bucks on the plan $91 instead of $99.

gotta admit, I do not understand your method either. Can oyu explain it better? thanks
Re-purchasing the phone using an upgrade on your current plan will cost you no less than the ~$199 (cost of the phone) + $240 ($10 a month for add'l line w/ blocked data * 24 month contract) and you switching phones from that line to your original number. This is well above the cost to get a replacement through SquareTrade.
OR, are you referring to taking another family members' upgrade and therefore simply subsidizing your cost by pushing it into the future?

coincidentally I do have 2 extra lines with upgrades since I pay for my parents lines and they stick to dumbphones.
Was $91 for me using a coupon off their Facebook page. YMMV.
Squaretrade is loads cheaper than AT&T's $6.99/mo with $199 deductible.
My service with them has always been stellar, even when I call to complain and moan and cancel plans.

Well one thing that the att covers is theft.
Honestly, you get a extended warranty if you purchase your phone with a premium credit card. They will also pay for anything the manufacturer doesn't want to cover. That's 2 years.
Google "credit card fixed sgs3 screen." a guy shares his story.

You are right, ST doesn't cover theft. I didn't consider that.
I've never had a phone stolen (famous last words?) and that's because it is either in my hands or in my front pocket. I do this not only for theft reasons, but also for dropping reasons. Of the 27 smartphones I've owned in the last 3 years, I've only ever dropped one once.
The cost of the phone would be the least of my worries to a phone being stolen, honestly, I don't want some rando having copies of my music, pictures, and notes. Regardless of my having backups.
I will check out credit card coverage options, gotta put my 12 CC's to use somehow.

Here's a story. Just make sure you have a premium credit card. For Visa, they call it a signature visa card, it should say signature above the visa logo.
