Update Today, apparently it works on other devices also. I don't have an M8 so cannot check but it may work on custom ROMs, maybe even Sense and it should work on GPE, some niceness added.
Try it and have fun.

Strange isn't it! You'd assume it's the same apk coming from Google Play, so must be something to do with the phone itself.
The GPE M8 is still HTC framework underneath right... just missing Sense and a few other HTC bells and whistles?

Yep and the black edges are very bothering
Gesendet von meinem HTC One M8 Google Play Edition
Installed on an M7 running an M8 Sense 6 port (InsertCoin) and there's no black edges - the viewfinder is the full screen and the shutter area is semi transparent. I like the fact that when you switch to video mode and you're in portrait view there's a constant icon telling you to rotate the camera (which does go away if you start recording). Google finally trying to kill off portrait videos - good for them! haha
IMO, the Google Camera App does produce a greenish tint on the M8, at least in the refocus mode after you refocused a little and let it render.
Already set the quality to high quality, but well, tinting is still there. Its not really heavy tinting, but enough to annoy me.
Normal photo mode seems fine so far, even tho it doesnt produce as good colors as the htc camera app.
Nevertheless, the new refocus tech is pretty logical and on still elements pretty powerful. I cant see it really useful for quick snaps or faster moving objects since it requires careful and steady movements.
Really hope that HTC improves the stock HTC camera app to let us adjust blur levels with increased accuracy on the captured image itself. the fail rate on ufocus sadly is pretty high still.
EDIT: I attached 2 images to show the green tint. First one is the shot right after i took it. second one is after refocusing. as you can see, there is a significant tint after processing. I even have the impression the processed image is now lower quality than before.

Yeah you would need to have tripod, or only shoot like stock panorama, only horizontaly. Its difficult not to change a position at least for a little which is enough for picture to be misplaced. Nice picture, btw, the 2nd one.

Hi,
Can you post the link of the camera app you installed on your device? ... I'm using a Nexus S and sometimes not all the pictures taken in Photo Sphere are being shown after the render is complete.. like I took a full 360 picture but i could only see half of it in the photo sphere viewer, the rest is black. Also i cannot apply the Tiny Planet effect.. the gallery FCs when i try to apply it.
Any guesses on how i can fix this?
Thanks

The black is when the pictures taken aren't good enough to stitch together... even on the image i posted in here, i took shots of the sky as well but it turned black because of lighting or bad pictures... not sure exactly but that's my best guess...

Does anyone have the *newest* version (ie after November 14th) of the camera and gallery app? The one that allows sharing to Google maps, and has the arrows for photosphere to show you where the closest blue dot is?
I too noticed that when i shot fully 360° shot, up-down, left-right, photosphere just doesnt include all photos. Like it says, "hey, thats too much photos, i will remove top row pictures and stitch the others". I dont have anything black etc, sphere just doesnt include images in stitching. It might be our phone is weak or something so it cant handle.

Yea that's what I meant. I meant black as in the pictures are not included in the photosphere viewer.
Well I don't think our phone is weak for that. Because it can take panorama pics very easily, and it probably captures more photos than photosphere before stitching them all together.
I think it could simply be a compatibility issue, since the rendering bugs sometimes.
Also, did you guys manage to fix the Tiny Planet effect FC?

It's all about the lighting. If youre in a dim space you'll notice darker video. If youre in a bright room or outside, no difference. That's my experience on both my N5 and iphone.
i also think it's normal. my opinion is that they lowered exposure to raise the framerate. it should look better if you test it outside during daytime.

Exactly, looks murky, my first instinct feels its a bug, but who knows.
Weird thing. If I go to photo sphere sometimes its still dark, then I'll switch to panorama and its like the normal camera lighting, switch back to video from there and its got good lighting like the camera but its like everything is warped.

So just in case not everyone follows The Droid Life, I thought I'd post the new Camera App since photography quality seems to be one of biggest aspects of the phone people chase.
Let's see how it stacks against our Generous Dev's Xdabbed's and Jishnu's modified camera apps that they have done wonders with. I don't know if it'll be of any use to us since they've been pushing the stock app to the max, but maybe it's worth giving a try for UI experience.

I myself don't think it will compare with the quality and feature's Xdabbed has packed into his but new stock options are always nice.

Strange, but to me the google cam looks a alot sharper quality as per the rug and cat fur. The colors also look deeper i.e. the pink leopard spots. I'll have to play around more
Update 2: So I believe Google's Cam takes amazing pictures in ideal lighting and photo conditions, but Xdab's really strives at being a more versatile photo taker when it comes to other conditions such as low light.
Yeah, I saw this on D-L also. So far I am very impressed and happy to have Photo-sphere back in the arsenal.
One thing I want to try and do is hack the app to either add a 10Mwide [16:9] option or change the parameters on the 7.7M option to be the 10Mwide format that is available on the stock LG camera. Which is the one i use the most and allows for the full screen view w/ semi-transparent shutter button.
played around for a while. could not get photo sphere to work correctly. blur effect is good. images to me don't appear to be any better than lg stock camera app. certainly not many filters/effects etc. thanks for the download thought.

This new google cam it is not so good in low light scenes...
Let's try to take some pics in dark scenes, you can notice that it is not able to focus using the flash led while stock/modded lg cam yes.
i dont like how small the pictures come out.
I love it, nice for custom roms!
Its really just meant for being simple and taking quick shots without cumbersome load times for instance like the HDR mode is super quick. I'm sure with more app updates on the way this camera app will have good potential

thanks, you see a pic speak the meaning much clearer than just words, at first I put the circle directly above the camera icon

Has anyone tried to run the gcam port on the u11 life? Does it work?
If yes, post some pictures please

I'm testing this variant from xda which is more recent and far easier to use and configure !
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCam5.1.016-Arnova8G2-V1.3.apk
I'll let you find which picture is from which camera app, it's not fun otherwise :victory:
It's either HTC or Google Camera Mod

Really difficult... Can´t see much difference. Guess in low light this scene could showing more advantages of HDR+ EDIT: Could you post some low light pictures, please?

Thank you for the link and all the info about the Modded GCam.
It really seems to make better pictures, but have to test more. So far I saw, it is pushing up the ISO but without making the pic more blurry.
One thing bugs me a bit though.
There is no option to save pics automatically on the SD-Card. Another thing I saw is, that the front Cam uses only 4MP even though there is a 16MP built in my HTC U11 Life, but as I'm out of the "Can't resist selfify me in every moment" age, I can really live with that [emoji3]

That's because there is no sdcard in any Nexus or Pixel phone.

Ok, wasn't aware of the No-SD Card thing. Thanks.
Have tested a bit more and all of a sudden pics get way too dark.
I have to do some further testing.

Thank you.
Well, If it is designed for Pixel Phones, there will be no option for saving to SD Card.
Could be worse.

Is the stock rom on arch x64? Also, the latest gcam port features portrait mode from Pixel 2,is it working on this phone? Thanks.
