EDIT: For me, the sweet spot is right on top of the camera icon.
Interesting... Wonder why I've never heard of this. Is it an artificial contrast, so like just adding more sharpening affect? Or is it actually making Black's blacker and White's whiter?
^ I'm curious as well.

So, If you ran this through a actual contrast test (the one review sites use), would it show an improvement? I hope so, because this phone according to review sites has quite a low contrast ratio

The phone was designed to have natural colors, alot people dont understand it because they are use to the high contrast in displays the super amoled. Also when they review the phone they never show off the color adjuster feature..
All i can say is try it ur self.

Very nice. What's the optimal contrast level for this phone? Coming from a GS4, I'm wondering how much i need to adjust it.

For my display @ 50% brightness auto turned off, putting the icon directly above the camera produces perfect contrast and blackness levels according to this "template page" based test site:

Hello, I am on ICS and have this problem since Gingerbread.
The exposure compensation function of the camera does not work with 3rd party applications.
When I try to change the exposure on a third party app (HDR Camera, camera zoom fx, procapture, vignette, camera fv-5) it always stays the same.
This is a pitty because I can't have HDR, bracketing etc, which would make for nice photos.
I've contacted Almalence (creators of HDR Camera) about this issue in the past but they couldn't help. They told me that not all Android devices give access to these controls and offered me a refund.
Since we have so many i9103 hackers here, I thought to ask if you have any experience with this issue. It should be a firmware and/or library thing.
Yes, I'm too facing the same issue. Can't change exposure value in other camera apps. I thought it was only me. But it seems this is universal.
Thanks, at least I know I am not alone. It is very difficult to find information about this problem for any device.
I can't understand why Samsung did such a bad work with the device. Especially in ICS there are standards they should follow for camera access in order to avoid such issues.

Or maybe he could at least give us some pointers, as to which files in the source code could be related with the problem.

Being able to change is one thing but does it make a difference. BTW which app are you using?
HDR camera+ always captures photos, but in order to work properly the 3 photos it takes should have very different brightness. Does it work that way in Angeeks ICS?

No, the exposure control is the bar on the bottom right, the one which goes [-2...-1...v...1...2].
When you move this bar, the brightness of the photo should change. Dark towards -2, bright towards 2.
It is also called exposure compensation.

Exactly what you'd expect, a quick dissolving effect when you go to the home screen, switch between apps etc.
Ha ha ha lets turn off the animation efects and this will make the phone faster...This make phone more ugly because you torn off visual efects, and nothing about overall procesor and work speed.NOTHING!
Wrong. I prefer the look without the animations and it does in fact make the phone much more responsive which is all good because lag sucks and that fix along with killing the S-voice on the home key makes the phone a whole lot better to live with.
I prefer them off. Much snappier. Thanks.

What's really interesting is that despite the tons of other threads about disabling transitions in developer options, he someone managed to make his phone 10 times faster than all of those! And it's even quoted in the thread title like the absolutely factual factoid that it is! Win!
Plus, as an added bonus, rather than simply making a duplicate thread with text, that takes only a few seconds to disregard, this is a link to Youtube... Quality all around.

Who knew disabling something can make it faster? Another tip for you then which you may not be aware of. If you want to improve battery life, use it as little as possible. Hope that helps.
It's mind blowing how many people actually complains that the s4 lags!
my s4 is quick and snappy. Stock touchwiz qualcom version.
Even with air gestures and s voice enabled, there is no sign of lag or stutter.
So just in case not everyone follows The Droid Life, I thought I'd post the new Camera App since photography quality seems to be one of biggest aspects of the phone people chase.
Let's see how it stacks against our Generous Dev's Xdabbed's and Jishnu's modified camera apps that they have done wonders with. I don't know if it'll be of any use to us since they've been pushing the stock app to the max, but maybe it's worth giving a try for UI experience.

Strange, but to me the google cam looks a alot sharper quality as per the rug and cat fur. The colors also look deeper i.e. the pink leopard spots. I'll have to play around more
Update 2: So I believe Google's Cam takes amazing pictures in ideal lighting and photo conditions, but Xdab's really strives at being a more versatile photo taker when it comes to other conditions such as low light.
Yeah, I saw this on D-L also. So far I am very impressed and happy to have Photo-sphere back in the arsenal.
One thing I want to try and do is hack the app to either add a 10Mwide [16:9] option or change the parameters on the 7.7M option to be the 10Mwide format that is available on the stock LG camera. Which is the one i use the most and allows for the full screen view w/ semi-transparent shutter button.
played around for a while. could not get photo sphere to work correctly. blur effect is good. images to me don't appear to be any better than lg stock camera app. certainly not many filters/effects etc. thanks for the download thought.

This new google cam it is not so good in low light scenes...
Let's try to take some pics in dark scenes, you can notice that it is not able to focus using the flash led while stock/modded lg cam yes.
i dont like how small the pictures come out.
I love it, nice for custom roms!
Its really just meant for being simple and taking quick shots without cumbersome load times for instance like the HDR mode is super quick. I'm sure with more app updates on the way this camera app will have good potential
Low light shot.. first is x's camera, second is Google.

Yep and the black edges are very bothering
Gesendet von meinem HTC One M8 Google Play Edition
Installed on an M7 running an M8 Sense 6 port (InsertCoin) and there's no black edges - the viewfinder is the full screen and the shutter area is semi transparent. I like the fact that when you switch to video mode and you're in portrait view there's a constant icon telling you to rotate the camera (which does go away if you start recording). Google finally trying to kill off portrait videos - good for them! haha
IMO, the Google Camera App does produce a greenish tint on the M8, at least in the refocus mode after you refocused a little and let it render.
Already set the quality to high quality, but well, tinting is still there. Its not really heavy tinting, but enough to annoy me.
Normal photo mode seems fine so far, even tho it doesnt produce as good colors as the htc camera app.
Nevertheless, the new refocus tech is pretty logical and on still elements pretty powerful. I cant see it really useful for quick snaps or faster moving objects since it requires careful and steady movements.
Really hope that HTC improves the stock HTC camera app to let us adjust blur levels with increased accuracy on the captured image itself. the fail rate on ufocus sadly is pretty high still.
EDIT: I attached 2 images to show the green tint. First one is the shot right after i took it. second one is after refocusing. as you can see, there is a significant tint after processing. I even have the impression the processed image is now lower quality than before.

just get FKU and use the colour profiles to adjust it, all the screens will be slightly different colour depending on manufacturing run so you have to tweak it to normal manually
from your OTHER thread thats the same.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54123818&postcount=4
every single screen will variate, every one will be slightly different. and the screen color itself will change depending what kind of light you are standing in. his yellow screen might look much better in sunlight or fluorescent light, then in the incandescent light you are in.
What is FKU?
The yellow screen will get whiter with use. Give it a couple weeks

Franco Kernel Updater... it's one of several kernal tweakers. A custom kernal like Franco allows you to change the color profile or if you install ElementalX, you can choose a pre-defined cooler color profile during the installation without the need for a kernel tweaker.

If you ask me, the right one looks a little bluish :silly:
If it does wither away (I doubt it), well and good otherwise you will need a custom kernel which supports gamma calibration by which you can set profiles to change the color.

I don't think it will but this is the perfect opportunity to test it.
OP, report back to us in a couple weeks if there are any changes. I think that most people's eyes just adjust to the slight yellow hue but with another screen to compare against, the difference will remain visible.
