Thank you for the link and all the info about the Modded GCam.
It really seems to make better pictures, but have to test more. So far I saw, it is pushing up the ISO but without making the pic more blurry.
One thing bugs me a bit though.
There is no option to save pics automatically on the SD-Card. Another thing I saw is, that the front Cam uses only 4MP even though there is a 16MP built in my HTC U11 Life, but as I'm out of the "Can't resist selfify me in every moment" age, I can really live with that [emoji3]

Increased Camera Bitrate [MOD]

Taking absolutely no credit for this mod, I just wanted to give HOX users a heads up that there's a way around the abysmal 6 mbps bitrate. The mod will increase it to 20 mbps and (hopefully soon) to 40 when the developer releases it. MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD ONLY THE SENSE 4 VERSION.
In layman's terms, this will make your video much clearer with higher details.
Also, please take the time to thank the dev for releasing this mod if you do choose to use it. I have been struggling for a couple of days now to try and accomplish from scratch what this guy did, and it's not easy. So, show some appreciation for this guy
Without further ado: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238
Good spot. Will do a recording without and with the mod to see a difference. Will update later.

As you can see there is no real big difference here. The 720 and 1080p are both nearly the same bit rate. The mod is slightly more but still far from the 20mb bitrate.

Only sense based is supported, and not the fps just the bit rate so you get a higher quality 1080p

I just installed the 1.5 Sense 4.0 version on my CleanROM 3.0 based ATT One X and immediately notice a difference in image quality. The photos appear less blurry and grainy when a full crop is done in night shots, and cannot wait to try out lighted shots tomorrow. I've been waiting for this mod for the One X since I got it and can't believe it actually works.

AOSP camera - how is it compared to TouchWiz camera software?

been looking into trying either AOKP or Paranoid Android.. could you fine folks please tell me how the AOSP camera compares to the TouchWiz cam? i've heard that the AOSP cam is nowhere near as good as the TW cam software. what features aren't in the AOSP one? thanks!
My dad and I took side by side pictures of that exact same thing and the pictures looked exactly the same.

good to know. as far as features though.. like burst shot, panorama, take a photo while in video, save to external SD... are all those in AOSP as well? thanks!
This is the only time I will EVER say something from touchwiz is better. AOSP camera does not have near as many features as the touchwiz counterpart. Don't get me wrong it can still take normal shots just fine but everything else touchwiz has the edge.

New Official Google Camera

So just in case not everyone follows The Droid Life, I thought I'd post the new Camera App since photography quality seems to be one of biggest aspects of the phone people chase.
Let's see how it stacks against our Generous Dev's Xdabbed's and Jishnu's modified camera apps that they have done wonders with. I don't know if it'll be of any use to us since they've been pushing the stock app to the max, but maybe it's worth giving a try for UI experience.
You need to be on Android 4.4+
Google Cam APK
Here's the DL overview of it. Tour
I myself don't think it will compare with the quality and feature's Xdabbed has packed into his but new stock options are always nice.
Update: Ok so I've done my first comparison. Both at 13MP, Med/Low Lighting, and forced flash with a steady arm.

Google Cam:
Compare Photos Link
Strange, but to me the google cam looks a alot sharper quality as per the rug and cat fur. The colors also look deeper i.e. the pink leopard spots. I'll have to play around more
Update 2: So I believe Google's Cam takes amazing pictures in ideal lighting and photo conditions, but Xdab's really strives at being a more versatile photo taker when it comes to other conditions such as low light.
Yeah, I saw this on D-L also. So far I am very impressed and happy to have Photo-sphere back in the arsenal.
One thing I want to try and do is hack the app to either add a 10Mwide [16:9] option or change the parameters on the 7.7M option to be the 10Mwide format that is available on the stock LG camera. Which is the one i use the most and allows for the full screen view w/ semi-transparent shutter button.
played around for a while. could not get photo sphere to work correctly. blur effect is good. images to me don't appear to be any better than lg stock camera app. certainly not many filters/effects etc. thanks for the download thought.

this is awesome. i love the blur effect. kinda like the M8 instead of having 2 camersa you raise the camera a bit and it takes another shot to create the depth of field effect.GENIUS!
I'm gonna play around with this a little more, but I actually think this might be a little sharper than X's mod.

In some phones the capture button is transparent. Why in the g2 is not and how can I get it to be transparent? I have cm11 with gapps but the camera app in the play store didn't let me update but install.
This new google cam it is not so good in low light scenes...
Let's try to take some pics in dark scenes, you can notice that it is not able to focus using the flash led while stock/modded lg cam yes.
i dont like how small the pictures come out.
I love it, nice for custom roms!
Its really just meant for being simple and taking quick shots without cumbersome load times for instance like the HDR mode is super quick. I'm sure with more app updates on the way this camera app will have good potential
Low light shot.. first is x's camera, second is Google.
In low light x wins

The GPE M8 is still HTC framework underneath right... just missing Sense and a few other HTC bells and whistles?

That's me, it's semi transparent in camera mode. Also, when I take a photo, the photo is the size of the whole viewfinder including the semi transparent part.

Haha, nice to see you here
What ROM are you using, and what's the build number on your camera app?

Same build number here.
Strange, must just be something to do with our different phones rather than the app in that case.
I have a black bar around the edges of the Viewfinder. Anyone noticed the same?
This is how it looks.im running sense rom

Yep and the black edges are very bothering
Gesendet von meinem HTC One M8 Google Play Edition
Installed on an M7 running an M8 Sense 6 port (InsertCoin) and there's no black edges - the viewfinder is the full screen and the shutter area is semi transparent. I like the fact that when you switch to video mode and you're in portrait view there's a constant icon telling you to rotate the camera (which does go away if you start recording). Google finally trying to kill off portrait videos - good for them! haha
IMO, the Google Camera App does produce a greenish tint on the M8, at least in the refocus mode after you refocused a little and let it render.
Already set the quality to high quality, but well, tinting is still there. Its not really heavy tinting, but enough to annoy me.
Normal photo mode seems fine so far, even tho it doesnt produce as good colors as the htc camera app.
Nevertheless, the new refocus tech is pretty logical and on still elements pretty powerful. I cant see it really useful for quick snaps or faster moving objects since it requires careful and steady movements.
Really hope that HTC improves the stock HTC camera app to let us adjust blur levels with increased accuracy on the captured image itself. the fail rate on ufocus sadly is pretty high still.
EDIT: I attached 2 images to show the green tint. First one is the shot right after i took it. second one is after refocusing. as you can see, there is a significant tint after processing. I even have the impression the processed image is now lower quality than before.

Great photo I was just wondering does is the image sensor in MXP a Sony IMXsomething unit?
Some people say that the moto camera app has too simple UI but for me the stock camera MXP is pretty great - CM snap camera comes pretty close though. Will try to make some night shots in the moonlight and with night mode

Yep. Very cloudy. In near pitch black. Very little light source. Did the same with my old lumia 920 and my old nexus 5 - both of with have OIS and lower pixels. The results were worse IMHO

Not really a fan of its camera in the night time but in the day time it is simply great
Great pics, guys.
Are you all using the stock Moto Camera app or something else?
I keep going back and forth between Moto, A Better Camera and Google Camera and can't decide which is the best.
Moto Camera, but with HDR on when it's daylight, and taking pictures of the sunrise/set. Also I'm happy with the night mode. (Coming from G 2013l

Haha Yeah 100% sure. Only if it was better in the night then would have been just perfect camera.

Higher resolution does take its toll on night shots as more noise creeps in.
