Still on 8.0.10501.127
Unbranded HTC 8X in The Netherlands.

Do you have battery life issues after updating to 8.1? I have the preview for Developers app as well and updated and noticed the battery life is horrible afterwards and my cell slowly discharges on USB. Only a wall/car charger will actually charge my 8x after updating to 8.1. I figure it's probably a driver issue.

Well, guess the GDR3 driver from HTC won't help me than. I have a T-Mobile 8X that T-Mobile never updated past GDR2. Seriously considering switching to AT&T as T-Mobile sucks for WP. Only way to get the Lumia 1520 is to buy it full price from Newegg for $625 and it only took like 5/6 months for the version with T-Mobiles frequencies to finally show it's face.

No battery issues for me. except for when i bought the phone it was on GDR2 ota update from T-mobile and was stuck in a constant bootloop. once i disconnected and reconnected the battery from the som all the battery problems went away. in fact since GDR3 ive been able to play one solid game for 8 hours and still not use all the battery. i havent messed with the phone much lately it does seen like when its sitsin a deep sleep it still using too much juice.
maybe a new ruu will come out with 8.1. the other day i had success extracting the ruu_accord_asia. maybe some fiddler2 and some reverse engineering will reward 8x users with custom Rom Upgrades.
...Maybe "plop" a multibootloader in one of the boot files. i found my uefi certs along with hundreds of embedded certificates which reveal direct download links to microsofts certficate repository when dumping the system root to my pc. uefi certs were in a compressed file that did not have a file extension.
Has anybody noticed that some of the .dll files contain ELF headers instead of PE/COFF? Maybe a hint to port windows phone 8 on android?

htc 8x - windows phone 8.1 preview
HTC 8x
Took long time and 3 restarts and lengthy data migrations but works in the end ....
Maybe a bit bigger battery drain but will judge after week observations.
Important is that NFC payment started working !!!!!! ..... Finally year late ....

i would have to say i dislike windows phone. the only reason being app provisioning. there store sucks. i swear there are only 25 apps in the windows phone store. its just that the developers have published there version of the app over and over and over again. its been interesting and a nice break from android. it is amazing how much faster the htc 8x runs than my evo 3d. windows phones handle memory management much better than android.

hi there...
just bought a 8x but when i try to upgrade to 8.1, after download de upgrade, its says it was tranfered but cant be installed... error 80188309.
am i missing something or do i just have to wait for microsoft to solve this issue?
thks in advance...

New update seems to have fixed battery. There was an update I found yesterday by manually searching for one. It's is an update to the 8.1 update from MS. So, not anything from HTC. I did it yesterday and after 8+ hrs at work, my battery has 75% juice left. It would be below 30% before by the time I got home with the original 8.1. I'm now on OS 8.10.12382.878.

I think that HTC has given up on windows Phone. I don't expect many updates anymore from HTC. There have been rumours that microsoft has given permission for dual boot (android and windowsphone) to htc. It would be nice to see a HTC one with wp.

Volume multimedia Issue
I have a very strange issue, when I play music the volume is allright, but I pause the music, I left the phone for a few hours, and when I play again music the volume is low: i put in vol.15 and i hear very low, i put in vol.30 and it sounds as vol.20. I have the "Stop the Music!" app, I stop all and play again and the problem is solved.

All in all is it worth to update?
I read the problems everywhere but no one tells us the positive side. Some people write that the battery drain issue can be solved with the newes update and a soft reset. Is that true for the HTC 8X too? Because for me that is the biggest hold back.

My unlocked Rogers 8x (C625a) has this weird problem, I am using Fido (Rogers MVNO). The phone will work fine with my Fido SIM on Rogers' network. However when I insert my T-Mobile SIM (roaming in Canada), it refuses to connect to Rogers network, it will connect for about 1 min and disconnect, showing "No Service" until it can connect to Telus or Bell. Upon doing a network search, it will show Rogers as prohibited.
The same T-Mobile SIM goes to my Lumia 521, it will connect to Rogers immediately without dropping off.
I think this is the wp8.1 issue and there is a battery drain and warm phone as well. I hope this can be resolved.

Sorry to barge in...can any one plz send me the 8x wallpapers...the stock ones??
Plz...thanks!

Wondering when HTC is going to release the official update. Nokia phones are getting it.

my 8x useto be sim unlocked now after the 8.1 updates its locked back to tmobile again.

[Q] OTA 2.3.4 update(Nexus S 4g) Battery, and Signal Strength

Hey everyone, I am enjoying the nexus s 4g(traded in my Evo 4g) but I have noticed some issues started to pop up after the OTA update to 2.3.4.(Build GRJ22). Also I am not rooted yet(for fear i will not be able to receive the next update that may resolve the issue's listed below).
Note I have updated my Profile, and PRL(Next to flashing to another ROM to mitigate the issue's).
1) Battery Charging, after the update the battery will not charge past ~95 percent.
2) Battery Life when idle, before the update battery life was outstanding with moderate usage. Now the device's battery life drops to ~85 percent after being unplugged for 15-20 mins.
3)Signal Reception, yet again my phone will constantly switch between 1x, and 3g even though my SNR, and DB never hits above ~65DB-~70DB.
4)Data Rate/Bandwidth, I was pulling 3-4 megs down/ 1.5 - 2.0 megs up(I live in the Virginia Beach Area) over 3g, Now I get "**** for speeds"(.3 megs down/.25 megs up. Maybe it is reference to the issue listed above(AOSP ROMS in my opinion provide a more accurate display of mobile network connectivity).
To end it I hope I am not alone with these issues?
Maybe if possible someone has a solution?
The battery thing is a means to keep the battery in better shape its not a bug.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
You aren't alone, all of the issues you listed are being looked at by Sprint and Google right now, although like the above poster said, the battery thing is intentional. Hopefuly they figure out what is wrong soon =/
In the meantime, using wifi when possible should alleviate a lot of those issues, mainly battery life on standby.
Many of my battery and network connection issues got mutch better when I turned the wifi to never sleep.

If your constantly going between networks rider is your battery drain thought there. If it was better before then there is hope your problem can be fixed with another ota

The data issues you are having are due to 2.3.4 and they are known. google/samsung are supposedly working on it. But I doubt we will see a fix anytime soon if Samsung is fixing it!
Woa, woa, woa. Wait a second, are you saying that going back to 2.3.3 or whatever the previous version was will alleviate all the signal/radio/data problems? !?!!?
If so, will downgrading stop me from being able to upgrade in the future?

nope. depending on the version you are going back to you'll mostlikely get an insta notification that 2.3.4 is available for your device, you just got to ignore it until they either fix 2.3.4 or release 2.3.5.
2.3.4 is already out. If they release a new fix it will be 2.3.5.
And what the post above mine says about the updates.
I have also seen tat 2.3.3 also has some issues with 3g. But the post I read up could have been all lies

OP:
When you "root" the NS4G, you're just unlocking the Bootloader, then installing SU/recovery....I do believe you can still receive OTA updates. The only time you can't is when you're running a custom ROM.

That's why you make a backup of untouched stock ROM.
Hey man, I returned the phone yesterday, and then bought a replacement(same model, but in order to avoid sprint's one exchange limit) With regards to the battery issue, it most likely is hardware related because the new phone running 2.3.4.(Build GRJ22), charges fully and does not have the so called "protect your battery feature". Also while i was at the Sprint Store, I compared the signal strength of my original Nexus S to an HTC Evo, HTC Evo Shift, and another Nexus S 4g. Oddly enough even in the store(which has signal booster's all over the place. All of the phones where around -76db. I am starting to think it is either a hardware issue or a ****ty baseband version. Most likely hardware. Kind of reminds me of the Samsung Captivate i had with AT&T and the ever so wonderful bug with Odin(Orange/Blue flashing screen of death that turned my investment into a paperweight. Also after running the *#*#4636#*#*, and displaying the Preferred Network Settings, I noticed on all 3 phones tested, all devices would switch from WCDMA, to Uknown, to the best of my understanding the default should be CDMA_Auto PRL. Very Strange, very strange indead......... Samsung needs to invest into quality control, before lawsuits start.
Damn! I am on wifi and charging the phone. I just woke up and picked up the phone and started using it. I've experienced that using the phone after an overnight charge, but not removing it from the charger, will make my battery go up to 98%. I just saw it hit 99 and was like I need to get a screen shot of this. By the time I downloaded and installed something it dropped back down to 98. I've never seen this phone hit 99 before today. If it does it again I am prepared to archive it.

My V21e Update

To anyone who cares or was questioning the update. My update is running very smooth, GPS updates super quick, battery life has improved and all my apps are working perfectly. I must be lucky.
First of all, previously to the update I was running CM7 RC-1 with morfics kernel which ran great first of all. But of course i wanted to update to an "official" if you want to call it that.
This is the guide I followed thanks to TGA_Gunmann for posting first.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/23/how-to-unroot-the-t-mobile-g2x/
I made sure all the steps went exactly as they were supposed to. And i followed them perfectly.
Now i have this.
My version of OS im running.

Battery
Battery life with my normal to moderate usage. It has been better than my experience with froyo.
Been using this all day as well. Widget and background (bg is a Live Wallpaper also)
If someone were to ask me if they should update, My answer would be yes. I have not had any problems yet. Just make sure you follow the instructions CAREFULLY! Maybe someone will find this at least a little useful.
People are complaining but I rather have the update than be stuck on 2.2. Only. Things worth noticing is the stock camera, but we have to wait 4 more months on the update.

I now notice it only seems to get stuck in the checked position if there is also active wifi connection, otherwise, if the phone is on 4G, the 2G box can be checked/unchecked and the selection sticks.
I agree if anyone wants to update they should, but the only down fall is losing the nice LG camera. That is the only reason I went back. I take a lot of photos of my son who is 2 years old and I need crystal clear pictures like you get with the LG Camera. I think if you want a stable gb rom, do the update. If you want the LG Camera like I do then do not do the update. Just my two cents.
I can agree. I noticed the camera was a little dark. But I can deal without it. I take meaningless pictures unlike you. Pictures of your son is a good reason to go black. I would probably also jump on board if I were to be using it for tthe same.reason

Battery drain issue on several smartphones die to "Google services"

Hi
I've been having problems with my latest smartphone regarding the battery drain. I don't know if it's a specific app or something way different, but they all seem to be draining a lot of battery life.
Currently I'm on a HTC One coming from a Samsung Galaxy S3 4G and Galaxy S3 before that. As I remember if, both my Galaxys had the same problem.
As you can see below it seems to be the Google services that are draining the battery.

Has anyone else had simular issues with the Google services, and could it be an app that regularly uses the Google services?
I also have to mention that with all my phones they all became hot on their back (battery). I only use stock ROMs and I very rarely download apps from outside of Google Play Store.
My girlfriend is now using the Galaxy S3 and she hasn't really complained about the battery drain or the hot backside of the smartphone. I also doesn't seem to be a problem for me to begin with when I switch phones, but after a couple of weeks the problem arises.
I also have a Nexus 10. I can't say for sure whether that drains the battery too fast, but I believe it doesn't, though many of the apps are the same as those on my smartphones. At least it doesn't get hot.
Thanks a lot in advance for any help on this issue.

I would suggest that you get titanium backup and back up your apps, then uninstall one by one to see if the problem stops. You might want to look into a custom rom.. Im on Slimrom with my GS3 and wow its blazing fast with the options for way more battery life. You should look into a custom rom.

I had the same problem when I loaded CM11 on the Lg Optimus G Pro, Google Services would just drain a crapload of battery and I didn't know why. I asked in the CM11 forum for help and one person said to clear data from Google Services in the apps part of settings and it should possibly stop the big drain. My personal experience was I did that and it worked temporary and brought GS down to 23% but awhile later it went back up. I guess that is the only fix for now.
Edit: I now have a Nexus 5 and my Nexus 5 does not have that issue, Google Services(GS) on Nexus 5 stays at 23%-25% no matter what custom Rom I have on it or stock Rom.

Can it be anything else than Google Play-services and Android systems, when they, according to the screenshot, stand for 56% and 23% respectively? I mean, some other apps that makes it as if it was the Android system.
I've chosen not to be using mods after I almost killed my girlfriend's LG Optimus 2X At least it wasn't any fun to work with any longer.
Come to think of it I've read that there's a battery problem with version 4.4.2, which I run. Maybe I just need to wait for version 4.4.3 to be released, which should solve the problem. It was, according to some sites, a problem with the camera app running in the background.
While I cant add anything other than "I have been saying so for a long time". I dont use google services in my phone, and I am happy. Though it is a custom rom, when I bought my phone, I did the same with the stock rom. All I can say is that the phone run much smoother, less lag and a greater battery life.
If you are keen, just use your phone for a week without google services, you should see the difference. The less services and background apps run, the better your experience with the phone will be.

Note 3 KitKat update has completely broken notifications.

Obviously Samsung weren't happy with their efforts to launch this device with a broken email app. They've gone one step further and broken all push notification support in 4.4.
No longer do I receive email notifications, app notifications, or pretty much anything else.
I have to unlock the phone before I'm told that I had an important meeting an hour ago which had a reminder set 30 mind before. Nor will I receive those stupidly funny pictures of cats with bread crusts on their heads on time.
But it's OK, because calls and texts still work just fine. Who needs important emails as long as you have that text telling you to pick up milk the second it comes through.
There must be laws somewhere to protect us against this stuff. Samsung are shocking.
I would suggest doing a factory reset. I have none of these issues. I have multiple email accounts and calendar reminders that never fail to go off unless the battery is dead. Both the first 4.4.2 and the current build (which is much cleaner in general performance btw).

I've done 5 factory resets in the last 2 weeks.
Notifications SOMETIMES work for the first 2 days, before they stop altogether.
Doesn't matter if I have a clean start with no apps installed, having all the bloatware disabled, etc. It always breaks.
I've tried just using the normal battery cover as opposed to the Samsung Flip cover, makes no difference at all.
I've also noticed that Cell Standby is top of battery usage regardless of what I do. Tested different batteries, sim cards, forcing 2G/3G instead of LTE, etc, also with no luck. The battery reporting is also way off too. 100% to 50% drains stupidly slow, then after 50% it craters to 0% within hours. Again, doesnt matter which battery I use (all official batteries btw). Wiped everything via recovery, nothing works.
Am I just one of the victims of 4.4.2? Because I'm starting to think the phone itself is broken.
Also worth mentioning that its only a few weeks old, so 4.3 hasnt been tested, and now obviously I can't go back due to the bootloader update.
My note 2 runs beautifully on both 4.3 and 4.4
I would take your reset one step further and flash the current firmware via Odin. The factory flash you have might be corrupt. Not likely but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen it.

Whatever your situation is it's your situation. I've been on 4.4 since a leak was released in January and haven't had any of the issues you're describing. The Gear is dependent on device notifications for its feed so its forum would be lit up like a Christmas tree if what you're describing were common. I can't imagine it's h/w related because there's no specific component that would touch the things affecting you. From what you said, I'm assuming your device is receiving whatever's supposed to trigger the notification but you're not being alerted when it arrives/occurs. That sounds like an app conflict or problem in settings.

Strangely enough, notifications work fine when paired with the Galaxy Gear I got free with it. I just rarely use it due to the nature of my workplace.
I probably should have added, the notifications only come through a few seconds after the phone is unlocked. You can visibly see the phone begin to access the network via the icon, and once it downloads, notifications pop.
And worth mentioning that this happens regardless of wifi access point, and on both 2G/3G and on LTE.

I posted the firmware a week or so ago. That's the build that was just released.

Mine doesn't do this. In fact mine is the opposite, it checks my email more often than what I set it to, kind of annoying.

Thanks but I'm running the international version.
Decided to bite the bullet and use the latest NE3/NE4 update from Asia, as a few people have reported it to be fine for the n9005 model it was intended for. I can always flash back later.
Will update in due course if anything helps my situation.
I had the same problem with WhatsApp notification
And I figured out that was happening because I hibernated google play store app
Just a quick message to say that the NE3 build seems to have fixed my cell standby issue, but ofcourse this is more than likely down to the full odin flash.
Hopefully it stays that way. Will test notifications during my work day tomorrow.
Yet another thing I forgot to add. Notifications have always worked properly when there is music playing to an external device. I assume this is down to the fact that the phone is always awake, and not in deep sleep like it normally is.
Android system and Android OS are both firmly back at the top of my battery usage as per the 4.4.2 norm. Strangely though I can't get the screen usage up at all.
weird. I have had 0 problems with NE3. Are you sure that you didn't greenify \ deactivate \appops stuff you shouldn't ?
i would love to have cell standby up on top as opposed to Android OS \ Android system though i did see a big leap in standby battery life comming to NE3 from ND3 and they were still on top.

NE3 seems to be significantly better than the ND6 build I was originally on. I can't judge battery life as ND6 was completely broken where tracking battery health, charge, etc was concerned. But I will say that it seems much more accurate.
So far notifications are working flawlessly while I have my flip cover installed. Hopefully it lasts.

Note 5 Memory Management

As many of you know a lot of folks have posted about the RAM management issues on their Galaxy Note 5 devices. The issue is that apps are closed prematurely despite the Note 5 having the most RAM available to any Android device to date. This also seems to effect the Galaxy 6, Galaxy 6 Edge, and Galaxy 6 Edge+ devices. Since Verizon (and AT&T) have locked down their boot loaders there is no way to obtain root and fix the problem. We are left waiting on Samsung for a fix (if it ever comes). This may not seem like a big issue to a lot of folks but I often run several apps in the background (Skype, Exchange client, K-9 Mail, Lync, Life 360, Spotify) and I can't afford having them shut down by an over aggressive RAM management.
How many of you have experienced the issue?
Has anyone been running several apps in the background and not had this issue happen?
Has anyone found a fix that will work with Verizon/AT&T devices with locked boot loaders?
Any word from Samsung as to a fix?
Here are links detailing the issue in case you are not familiar ...

I got my N5 and have my s6 to my son. I have noticed little to no lag on my N5 but it was bad on the s6.
Sorry, not much help. I have noticed it kicking apps out of RAM, but they load so quickly it's not a big deal. Still annoying though given the amount of ram. I run tasker, yaata, and adblock, so I'm wondering if that might be making it worse for me. But again, at least this phone loads apps crazy fast.
I'm using note 5 and it frequently kills my swype keyboard. I frequently have to wait for about 5 seconds for the keyboard to load and have a Google search. You can imagine how frustrating it is

That's weird... I use Swype and don't have that issue at all.

As I remember thinking, the issue seems to less prominent after an update?
Anyway, I've sold my note 5 already.
Same here. Sold my Note 5 and went to a Nexus 6. Much happier.
Haven't noticed that at all.

I have that issue with the samsung keyboard.
I wonder why it has so little free ram considering this phone has 4gb of ram in total.

I do have this issue. Lots of people do, some won't admit it tho. Thankfully, waiting for a fix with Android 6.0 from Samsung/Verizon will only be 6ish months after everyone else! Woo

I don't have that issue either but that might have something to do with me being on Sprint and not Verizon.
Not sure how I ended up here, sorry.
Been following for a while. Thought I would contribute. Yes a fix is coming in 6.0 for us from what I keep seeing about the ram management. It sucks.
I run chromecast with YouTube and the issue arises when I try to go use the notification to pause the videos that are autoplaying.... Nothing happens because youtube is closed in the background. I have to reopen youtube and wait for it to load and catch up the I can pause. Happens with chrome as well. I will read something or type something in a form on a page and if left for a little with no attention it will have to reload the page after resuming chrome due to it closing out. The whole point of the window button is to close them when you don't need them anymore.
Can't wait for a fix!

No inside scoop for us. Just what I've been reading shows its been delayed from this month to beginning of this year in Q1.

A lot of Samsung phones are getting it then.

First time posting so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I've been having the complete opposite problem then the one described in this thread, my phone is actually running out of RAM available and having to re launch my launcher... About once a day I have to restart my phone just to be able to unlock the device because it gets that bad. I've tried searching other forums but none seem to have helped.
I'm currently rooted on a Canadian note 5 running rapture ROM and with the arter97 kernel.
I've included a screenshot of what I'm dealing with right before I need to reboot the device.
Thanks for looking

Your problems are more than likely because of the 'root'.. It shouldn't need to use all 4gb of ram! You probably have that deep sleep issue because you tripped your Knox counter.. However, you might find better help in the Canadian thread instead of the Verizon thread...

OR, the thread you used to gain root access.
