Hey all. I've gotten good responses here before so I figured I'd come back.
Right, well, I've had a Moto G for not too long now, so I was surprised when I woke up this morning and there were huge latency issues on the screen. About a 3/4 of a second delay. It was working perfectly the other day, and I'm confused. My phone has never had root access and still doesn't. The strangest things I've noticed when using a screen tester app is that only when one finger is down is there latency. Two to five fingers is as fast as it should be.
And also, the soft buttons are working fine, the ones down the bottom.
So if anyone can tell me what's wrong, or perhaps what I should do to correct this phone killing problem, I would be thrilled.
(PS. I've noticed a dead pixel at the top right of my scree. Perhaps they are related issues?
Thanks again for any or all help! ^^

Its always a good place to start. Could just be some background app data causing havoc.
hmmm...
Mmkay, I reset the phone, and nothing changed. Still getting the latency, even just from moving around the home screen.
Any other suggestions?

That sounds like it could be a hardware issue then. There wont be any software changes you can make to fix it if a factory reset didn't help.
You may have to warranty the thing.
Is it through a carrier or did you just buy it outright?
Oh man I'm really sorry about this, not replying. I fixed it with factory reset but keeping my SIM in the machine.
Thank you xD

I have tried restoring to factory settings and installing only a few of my apps in my account. It'll happen without warning and without too many things running. I even watched it restart itself while I left it alone charging on my nightstand. Other than this issue, I LOVE using it, but I really don't want to have to resort to RMA and waiting a few weeks on a new one. Any ideas?

My Nexus 5 has the same Problem. Nothing helps...

Hi guys,
I've had some problems with my phone and I really don't know what's wrong. I know very little about technology so I was hoping someone here could tell me what's wrong. The keyboard of my phone (motorola moto g) often won't come up; Apps also keep closing automatically, especially the chrome app does that a lot (pretty much after half a minute of browsing). Does anyone know what's wrong and what I can do about it? And thanks for taking the time to read this!

If i was you i would just back up your data and factory reset the device. No need to hassle and fix the problem when you can just backup your images in 5 minutes and reset the device and be back up and running today.

Thanks for the answers! I'm gonna try it today, hope it will work.
So since about 2 days ago the phone just start freezing. Sometimes it just restarted randomly, but mainly freezing at least every 5 minutes. The power button alone wouldn't turn it off no matter how long I held it. Always have to use Pwr+Vol Down to reboot.
I put up with it because I've been busy, but finally tried wiping cache - no profit. Tried safe mode - no profit. Factory reset- negative profit. After the reset it just seems to restart a bit more often but in general it freezes less, making the timing seem even more random.
This happened when I first got it (used). It was restarting due to the fresh 7.0 update. So a factory reset fixed it and it was smooth sailing for like 3 months or something. I know there was a minor system update a few days ago but those dont usually call for a factory reset. I tried it anyway and it just didnt work. I had actually even tried uninstalling all the app updates from the night before it started happening. but safe mode couldn't even fix the problem so I guess that was moot.
Software version: G920VVRS4DQE1
Stock everything - I dont hack my daily drivers at all
Android 7.0
Mainly I'd like to know if Im alone. A fix would be great but I'm hoping it's not specific to my device. If it's a hardware issue I'm gonna give it a swift toss down the stairs and maybe deliver a nasty curb stomp to it right afterward.
Any advice?
I'm running into the same exact issue. Same build, and am running out of ideas.

Good to know its not just me. Did it start after a recent update for you also? That would give me hope that its not faulty hardware. Maybe just a bad update.

Yes, it started right after I got a small update. I'm hoping a fix will come. (I'm on verizon).

Same for Verizon. I guess I'll just hold out, using a backup phone, until a new update hopefully fixes it.

Gonna go ahead and revive this. It seems to work fine when the sim card is out. I recommend you see if it's the same with you. I've charged it up before work multiple times before work days and come home from to see that it never restarted. I was able to test this using the fingerprint feature; it isn't asking me to use pattern like it does after boot.
No one else is chiming in but, since we're both on Verizon, I'm having a feeling that it's directly related to the SIM/carrier.
I updated to one ui 3.1 using the German rom on sammobile and it is good but I'm having terrible trouble with the home screen. The inside home screen keeps taking the settings from the outside home screen and vice versa so I get a lot of squashed up icons on the cover screen and a few spaced out icons on the inner screen. Very annoying. I've tried good lock to fix it but no luck.
Is it a known problem or only bad luck? Have you tried device rom reset?

I accidentally resolved this by setting up a work profile. Everything then magically went back to normal behaviour. Hope it helps someone.

What do you mean by a work profile?? Could you please explain more?
I was actually experiencing what you described as well but I would also get the one UI home app to start crashing over and over sometimes.
I had done everything I had known to do including a factory reset. Just ended up getting a replacement phone through samsung care+ after many frustrating days.
Hi, I sold a very old phone earlier and the person sent me this video saying the phone is broken and you have to double press things.
Am I right in thinking this is a setting and can be easily fixed? It looks to be software rather than hardware. Their son is very upset so I'd like to fix it asap! If possible, otherwise a refund obviously.
It's a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Cyanogenmod. Thanks
Edit: Fixed by holding down both the volume buttons for 3 seconds!
Easiest way would be to a factory reset since it's going to a new user. Make sure you delete the Google and Samsung accounts first then do the reset in settings not the boot menu if possible.
Thanks, it has already been reset though and it was like this from the start? It's very strange, not sure how to disable it. (also doesn't help that I don't have access to the phone!)

Why not let them do a simple factory reset?
Update: fixed! I think holding down both volume buttons for 3 seconds seemed to work

You already did a factory reset and it persisted.
So you did a hard reboot and that temporarily at least did the trick?
Thanks, like I said it's tricky because I don't have access to the phone, but either way they are happy with it now But yup - it was from a full reset and it was there, unless they turned it on by accident.

May be an Accessibility feature. Sort of sounds like it. Lol for Vets that can't break the double tap habit.
