Epade S90 'NEO' - modable? Experts required - General Questions and Answers

So I bought a fantastic new phone when my windows one had a hard fall... for £40!! Epade S90 Branded 'Jcomm NEO' (A what??) Dual sim, dual core, fm radio etc.
Still cant get over the value, but im now wondering if its flashable/moddable?
Its completely unlocked, no network, even the serial is 123456789ABCDE
Has some sort of semi stock rom on there, no branding
How would I know if it is?
Runs really nice but im always tinkering
current details:

I'm currently useing the same mobile phone, it's flashable, you can bulid your own CWM recovery using MTK Droid tools. There is even a TWRP recovery v2.4.1.0. at this forum. CWM gave me some backup problems, TWRP seems to be stable.
There are some custom ROMs on some chinese forumse, use Google.
Lewa seems to be pretty good.
I have terrible battery life on my N002, how's yours?

Thanks for that - what model are you listing it by - I try to search google etc. using the above info but i just get Chinese sales websites. im guessing as mines a Jcomm, its rebranded accordingly but the underlying phone is a neo, epade s90
The battery is fine on mine, much better than the Windows phone I smashed by accident and hence this replacement. I have an 1850mah but ive seen 2200+ on ebay, maybe grab one of those?
Impressed for £40! Others are buying them now they've seen mine

It should be NEO model N002.
Are you using one or two SIM cards?
Can you please provide a link for that 2200+ battery, I would appreciate it.

Are you just lobbing the rom onto your sdcard and flashing with CQM then?
I can see I can get into recovery mode ok.
its all rooted and unlocked so not much else I need to do I don't think, just make sure I have a backup (it takes ages)

im not finding any roms on that site - are there no decent english sites?
Im trying to find roms for generic mk65777...
may give up!
cyanogenmod says device unsupported when i run the install

I've also just brought a Neo N002 for £40.
The "Epade S90" referes to a discontinued model but the battery fits the Neo.
Or something like that
Ive now got half a dozen different n002 Roms on my SD...
Just Google "neo n002 Roms"
You will get a lot of Chinese sale sites selling the phone in the Google results but there are at least a dozen good sites (in Chinese) that have various Roms for this great phone.
Best one I've tried and am currently using is a BBk OS.
Looks a bit like cyanogenmod.
There is a good Sony ROM, and a Samsung/touchwiz rom that I found very laggy.
Just be aware that some Roms take ages to download from these sites and some are unflashable in cwm due to code 7 errors.
Couple of points-The makers advertisments claim the Neo has a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 1gb ram.
It actually has a 1.0 GHz dual core processor and 442 mb (335 usable) ram.
Why the makers need to fib is beyond me.
One the back cover of my Neo, it says "with neo team sense"
This is obviously a reference to some people claiming the Neo to be a "clone" of an HTC ONE X.
The Neo looks nothing like an HTC one.
I'm more inclined to think the Neo is more like a Moto G IMHO.
Anyway, Good luck with the ROM hunting

[Q] Generic Chinese Clone Devices

Ok, so I'm pretty new to this whole Android thing, but I'm not daft and know a think or two about computers and software, so I'm not a complete 'noob'...
However, to spare me the drama of trawling through thousands of pages, I have a few quick concise questions, and would appreciate concise answers.
So I bought a generic handset, branded as an Onyx Dragon though AnTuTu benchmark app tells me its a Yusu... details and specs from Chinavision.com (search Onyx Dragon).
I initially bought it because I needed a new phone (been on a Moto V3 Razr for about 6 years!) so got this cos it was cheap and looked good. Runs Froyo on what I have found to be pretty **** hardware (MT6516, advertised as 416MHz but shown to be around 207MHz, but not sure if this is main CPU or radio core...) with not a lot of RAM. I installed an 8Gb SD card to save the apps and keep as much free internal space as possible, in case the OS supports disc memory (?). The wireless is good and screen works well, but the GPS, navigation and camera are rubbish, but they are not why I bought it; I have a decent camera and I can read a map. Its definitely 'entry level' so I'm not too bothered if I brick it.
Since I got it, and seeing the many cheap 'clones' out there, I'm keen to get into them a bit more and start developing. I already rooted it with z4root, BusyBox and Superuser all installed fine. ROM Manager is running but because I don't know the actual brand I'm not yet running ClockWorkMod (doesn't show up in the list). I'm keen to install Gingerbread or maybe even CyanogenMod 7, but cannot flash the ROM without CWM. Can anyone tell me what phone 'model' I should use for this particular handset?
I can't overclock the chipset, but have been looking at other clones to play with, such as htc Incredible G11i Pro clone from etotalk.com and 'CyberStar' 3G handset with MT6573 650MHz chipset (also from Chinavision).
Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with these clones? They look great and if they work as well as the budget model I have now then there is certainly potential. Sure, they may not be as good as a genuine Galaxy or Nexus, but then the price reflects that. However, as a cheap development platform you can't really go wrong! I'd like to see faster processors and more hardware mod ability such as clocking, just to see what is possible. Anyone tried ICS on one of these? I read elsewhere that if Froyo runs ok on a cheap device then GB should be better. My friend has GB 2.3.3 on a genuine $500 Galaxy S2 and I'd love to show him up with a rooted and clocked clone running ICS for a fraction of the price!!
Well, thats not as concise as I would like, but it covers pretty much everything. One last thing though, I cannot install ES File Explorer 1.6.1, it will download from Market and attempt to install but then fail. The latest version I have is the pre-installed 1.4.2.2. I've tried everything I can think of; downloading on my Mac and copying via USB to install from Astro making sure ES is not running, failed. Tried uninstalling ES with ROM Toolbox having root access and disabled AVG, failed. Tried to launch new version from package options, failed. I have installed ES Task Manager v1.2 but cannot use all the features as it says File Explorer needs to be updated, and needless to say updating it from the prompts failed as well... Any ideas? I'm thinking a flash to GB should include the latest version (or better alternative).
Thanks all in advance!
I don't think it's possible to run ICS on such a low spec'd device. This onyx dragon runs on a 416Mhz ARM9 processor with a 200 Mhz ARM7 GPU. Even the G1 that uses a 528Mhz ARM11 CPU can't run ICS well. I would suggest that you give up on theses crappy chineses devices. If you don't have money you can find a LG Optimus One for 100 bucks on ebay and it is A LOT better than any of these chinese crap phones

Hey all, thanks for the feedback. Basically, sure I don't want to spend a lot being a student, I don't have a lot, but I'm keen to get more out of what I can afford, hence the Chinese crap (yes it is crap but if it does what you need...) : ) just a shame I can't clock mine! Does anyone know if ANY MediaTec chips can be?
Sure, I think running ICS is a bit optimistic, but I'd still like to give GB or C-Mod a go, providing I can get CWM installed. I'd like to compile myself and even think about refining my own version, perhaps slimming down a newer version to run on low performance hardware. What's this about a special cable needed with a 3.5mm jack?
And am I right in thinking Honeycomb was only for tablets, not phones...?

Yes you are right about honeycomb. As for the device. Without kernel source which will never be released due to copyright issues you may have a bit of trouble Modding it. CM only supports authentic devices and not clones as the hardware specs as you learned are faked and never true.

Hi droidscope,
Not all the Chinese phones are crap there are a few very capable phones now entering the market and they are catching up the bigboys rapidly.
For more info & reviews on the latest Chinese phones check over here http://www.gizchina.com/category/phones/ Try to stick with the branded chinese phones such as Zopo, ZTE, Newman etc because there is at least some support where as the direct copy/clones have no support at all. If buying try to get the phone pre rooted because some of the Chinese phone are getting more difficult to root. I would look here http://www.etotalk.com/ if buying and select the MOD ROM $4.99 for most phones then the phone will come pre rooted with working playstore language etc. They do not 1 to 1 copys although some of the phones have more than a passing look of some of the more famous brands. I have used them a few times and they have not let me down be sure to email them first to ask about stock levels though.

Typically there is a method, or if there isn't superoneclick usually work. Otherwise, you could try z4root, gingerbreak, etc.

Why would you buy a Chinese android phone? once you buy it you have no support and no community to turn to, the only one I would consider is Huawei

Buy at least a brand name Chinese android phone.. Don't get those that have no brand name and are dirt cheap.
Chinese tablets are easily rooted. Phones should follow suit, but research the specific unit.

Indeed. A lot of them come pre-rooted and some are fully unlocked.

I was able to root my i9220, wasn't easy but it's rooted. the only problem now is installing custom firmware, a problem i didn't have with actual name brand android phones.
China Android
I recommend that you do not prefer Chinese Android. Though you will get good features in it but it has not such worth and does not contain reliability because you do not get any customer service. More over no warantee exist to which you turn to in case of any defect and China android also highly delicate

Also need help on a similar matter, so thought about writing my post here.
What I have is a:
JWD
Model Number: E7_V73
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: MAUI.11AMD.W11.37.SP.V17, 2011/12/9 19:35
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: ALPS.GB.FDD2.MP.V4.5
Custom Build Version: 1328504061
If nothing else, I want to root the phone hoping that it would solve a very nasty problem I have (in the 4 phones I own of the same type): It works fine and all, but 1. In-call volume is too low; 2. When recharging, the phone does not respond and does random weird stuff. so can't rely on it for alarm clock, for instance... or even in case I need to make a phone call when charging.
Thanks a lot for your help,
L.

The phone is a Chinese (as mentioned before) JWD E7, with a MTK6573 650MHz processor.
Thanks!

For your 1. Rooting will not make hardware (the speaker) better (louder). For 2. Probably a charger problem. Buy a brand name OEM charger and see if that works.
Either way, if you can install the drivers, superoneclick or unlock root are very good methods.
And about your question about 650 + 400 mhz, they use this as a marketing gimmick to say it is dual core when it is really not. The 400 mhz is either a) the gpu or b) some cpu on every phone that manages the radio

Hey there... now that was useful!
Thank you so much!
If I may learn some more with you (noob here):
1) It's just the in-call volume that is low. Other things, like playing music, tv, ringtones, and all are loud. Is this really a hardware issue? I mean, the speaker is the same for all of these things, right?
2) Right on! Thanks a lot. This was my biggest bummer, and it's solved. I changed the charger and the phone is working fine plugged in!
3) This phone, with this processor, is still faster than my Samsung Exhibit II, which has a processor speed of 1GHz and it is running the same gingerbread of my china. Rooting it made it faster, but still not as fast the china. How can that be?
Best.
L.
Glad to help
1. I think its hardware, since phones usually use different speakers for the earpiece (top of phone on front) and music, games sounds (usually on the back of the phone)
2. Happy it worked, I had the same issue and thought that was yours as well
3. Now that is surprising, but my guess is the touchwiz ui. It shouldn't be slower, though... what exactly do you means by "slower?"

Hey there, great to have your insight!
1. Got it! It's a bummer, though
2. slower = lagging a lot, and sometimes even crashing. What I have in the my Exhibit II is a Peach Sunrise ROM, custom made for this phone. It affected even the kernel, and helped wonders... but my point is that this china is really not that bad after all in terms of processing speed. It does not lag as much, and it boots much faster. Also, it does not crash as the Exhibit II does sometimes.
3. I still want to root my china, though - due to other reasons. I want especially to be able to take out the china bloatware, yahoo messenger and other crap. But I also would like to be able to use voltage control, tether, and other things. I tried a couple of ROMs but they were not accepted by the system recovery. These were "H7300_Bunta_V8" and "update_HD7-3GS_V3.2MOD". I also tried all kinds of otehr things, like superoneclick, Gingerbreak, and other tricks. Do you know of any specific ROM that I could use? And where to get it?
Once more, thanks a lot for your time and insight!
L.
Rooted! Now just finding out what customized ROMs I can use. Maybe CyanogenMod? That would be awesome.
Hmmm, the Exhibit II really shouldn't be slower... it really surprises me. Especially on a custom ROM. Sorry, can't get any insight on that, it has the same CPU and GPU as the Galaxy S phones, should be pretty beast.
As for custom ROMs, there usually isn't much support for china phones, so I wouldn't expect any, but hey-maybe a dev decided to do it. Try googling

[Q] MID Tablet M9000/F900 (AllWinner A10??)

Greetings,
While I been a tech for 20years supporting the WinTel systems, I am a noob to Android and ROM programming. I needed to be portable, and being unemployed didn't leave many cost-options available. I picked up a China knockoff called the MID M9000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/330779120701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649).
What I can confirm on it is that it does run a Cortex A8 (I guess that means it is a AllWinner A10??) running Android ICS 4.04. A look under About Tablet shows Model Number F900, Baseband Version 1.4rc3 Kernel 3.0.8 [email protected] #2 Fir Jul 27 10:27:12 CST 2012 Build Number 20120716-F900.I have some flakiness with the screen, the performance seems poor with alot of waits and do I want to kill the app. I have gone through with Android Assistance and Advanced Task Manager to kill off any background apps, loads, etc. Still no luck.
Funny thing someone dumped in my lap a cheapy Sylvania SYNET7WIC 7" Smartbook with Windows CE 7 this past week. I searched and found you could bootload MODROID (Android 2.2 mod) ROM and I get more responsiveness on that WM8650 CPU than I am getting from this Cortex A8. So I am hoping it is just a bad build, and like the SYNET7WIC be happily surprised with a Mod for my Cortex A8 to improve it as well.
I tried over at CM, but there seems to be no discussion about MID tablets. I found the Christian Troy AllWinner A10 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398) but as I am not a DEV, I can't post to that thread to ask for help. All feedback or assistance is welcome, especially pointing to the right ROM and other parts I should use (I believe I have the right instructions) on how to do my first reimage to Jelly Bean. Thanks!
This seems to be a F900 tab

I think this is a f900 generic chinese tab and a replica of this one http://temtop.en.alibaba.com/produc...13_1_5GHz_Cortex_A8_800_X_480_9_Inch_MID.html
I have the same tab and I was finding it hard to get a stable ROM to replace my factory ROM which had much more serious issues. I used this one on my tab and its been running much better now.
http://www.azhuo.net/en/products_F9...Capacitive_Android_4.0_Tablet_PC_Upgrade.html
Please note I still face issues with slowness and I need to reboot my tab everytime I play a resource intensive app/ game. I think its more to do with the hardware than with the firmware.

Recently purchased a similar tablet from http://www.agptek.com/New-Android-4.0-MID-7-inch-Capacitive-TouchScreen-Tablet-458-96-1.html. I flashed Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 for many AllWinner A10 tablets with the MOMO9 compatibility zip; as the MOMO9 specs are identical to my tablet. Running very smooth, alot faster and more stable than the original ICS 4.0.3.
Where did yuo download the rom flash from? How has it been working for you? Are you still running it on 4.0.3, or are you on 4.0.4 now? I just got a Mid M9000 and kinda regretting it now, but if I can flash it, to a better rom, that would be awesome.
Thanks

MaiPan
Howdy,
Actually I scored instead MaiPan MX913 img file at Maipad dot net . I was reading some reviews because this is a a single core device, and they are now pushing out quad core tablets now, because any attempt with this chipset to do Jelly Bean results in the touch screen stop responding (I have tried three or four already). I think also the problem is how 'low end' the single core is, and is why they are dumping these like crazy.
I have actually seen quite a few posts that some still don't get good ICS response no matter the img file, and so regress back to Froyo with alot of positive results. I dunno if there is a patch with the Froyo to compensate for the changes to Adobe Flash and now the Java scripting changes, if your still not happy with the results from MaiPan.
I was going to sell mine on ebay, but now I might give it a try with the December img at MaiPan and seems to be pretty snappy, but won't replace my laptop where I can open several web pages at the same time I think. I will let you know how the latest image works as I am intending to test this weekend.

Now I have tablet that boots up with NO touch screen... since I tried the MX913 firmware, I've lost screen responsiveness. I suggest to everyone NOT to buy any tablets from NoMoreRack.com. Their customer service sucks and their tablets are all cheap crap... I think I learned my lesson!

Which one saved it? I really don't want to **** around another month with nomorerack.com to send this unit back and get another POS... So, if you could let me know tonight or tomorrow which firmware you used, that would be awesome.
Thanks

Wow. Yes. Maybe. Here is my sad story with a rare happy ending:
I ordered a MID9000 from No More Racks--BIG MISTAKE!--When, a couple of months later, it finally arrived (to my surprise), I set it up and was delighted to find that it actually worked. Up until.....5 weeks later, I left it on the charger overnight and that killed it. It appears these units are susceptible to overcharging. It would not boot past the "android" screen. Well, being an android noob, I was clueless. I finally discovered the Kocaso site that had downloads for the image files. It is here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link). However, the software that they recommend for installing the firmware did not work on my Windows 7 unit. Further search brought me here (but seeing I'm a new user I cannot post the link but it is on the Tablet Mods site), which clearly explained how to download and use LiveSuit to install firmware from a PC to an android tablet. And so. Back to the mymidpad firmware page! If you check the m9000 firmware, there are 4 possibilities. It says to check your serial number on the back to determine which one to use. Woe is me--my m9000 had no serial number. What the heck did I have? And so, I tried all 4 possibilities. NONE of them worked. They all installed OK, but the touchscreen would not respond. At that point, I was ready to throw the machine in the garbage. But one last chance: I tried to install one of the images given for the M9100 (M9100f), and to my shock, it worked like a charm and my machine is working better than ever. Go figure! I suspect that my M9000 actually is a M9100, at least in part. Who knows. I'm happy, for the time being. The moral is: be careful you don't overcharge these units!
my problem is that the touch stopped working ...
hey I have the same problem and I can not fix !!!! I have the same model. please help !!!!

Is this phone sold in country, or are you going to import it from china? Because if not, I would not recommend you a chinese phone. If it is defective you'll have a hard time returning it (if you can at all) etc.
Btw, if you come from iPhone, I strongly recommend you Google-listed devices (assume you live in the US, it would be HTC One, Nexus 5, SGS4) that come with the stock Android UI. They are updated as soon Google pushes out updates, which is closer what you experience on the iPhone.
Since chinese phones except for Huawei ones are rarely supported in XDA (they lack documentation, source etc) I would not recommend you a chinese phone if you want to try out new ROMs.
If you are ready to take the risks there you go. But as a first time Android user, no way I would go with that phone.
My recommendation for you is the Nexus 5. Hope this helps.
i have to import from china. im a symbian user im sorry i forgot to mentioned where i live. im from sri lanka and no play store available. no way to get a nexus 5. even if somehow managed get my hands on a nexus 5 it would costs me around 550-600$.

If it has to be a chinese phone then I suggest you the Xiaomi Mi3. Great User Interface (MIUI), great update support and best hardware for little money. Xiaomi is also highley popular, it is being regarded like Apple in china.
Go straight for Nubia, it has the best specs out there and far away the best price. I just order it btw.

Good question, in deed I just got a Nubia z5s 3 weeks ago.
(I used to be a Moto supporter, but got disappointed by Moto's sales policy - however, CDMA users can hardly have so many choices as others. forget HTC, bad quality.)
Somebody mentioned Xiaomi, I don't think it's a good option. Nubia's hardware spec is almost the same as Xiaomi, but Xiaomi's shipment and sales policy will drive you crazy. You have to attend to a luck draw first, then could have a chance to buy one!
Regarding the experience, herein I only talk about my experience.
1. BATTERY:
From 7am to 10pm, medium use, about 75% is consumed.
2. DISPLAY:
Much better than MOTO X  , 1080p. Also, the color is not so cold as Samsung.
3. VOICE&MESSAGE:
Fairly clear, however the location of Mic is just under USB port. sometimes your finger could swipe it when picking up.
As CM user, very delighted to see vibrate setup in "settings", SMS also designed with popup
4. CAMERA
I didn't test too much. However, the respond speed is satisfying.
5. SOFTWARE
a. I have to acknowledge that the UI design is lower than my expectation, especially the icons. Styles in default apps and system UI are not actually unique. But most Androider will change the launcher at soonest, am I right? (ps. I really hate Samsung's UI and the screen density!)
b. Furthermore, the system compatibility...there's no surprise, also no fetal bugs.
c. Seemed Nubia team learnt a lot from CM team. They just released source CODE on their website.
d. It can be ROOTED easily.
e. Some local team has ported CWM RECOVERY on it. Nice job!
f. It's said MIUI by local team is on the way. Also, some guy is working on its AOSP now.
6. AUDIO
Sorry but I never play songs via cell phone. Somebody has idea?
7. DESIGNING
I spent almost one week to get familiar with the weight - it's too light
8. NETWORK
GSM/TD/CDMA, not sure if it can be used in Verizon network?
In conclusion, it didn't disappoint me. I'd be delighted to see more improvements or 3rd party's works on ROMs in near future.
Guys, is this phone suitable for the dutch network and.if flashed with multi language you can use dutch language?

How do i know what Roms will go on my S7?

Hi guys, I'm looking for a custom rom to put on my mums phone, she bought one and i think its been a chinese import, she keeps getting all sorts of pop ups and stuff self installing itself so want to put a custom rom on it to prevent her getting annoyed with it, I am quite tech savvy with Pc's and other things but phones aren't really anything i mess about with too much, I have jailbroken iphones when it was a lot easier but dont think ive even done a full replacement of the OS, what info do i need to provide you with? and can you recommend a decent rom to use?, i looked on the roms page and there are tons to choose from?
the info in the hardware is here in this picture, if there is any other info i need to provide you with then let me know

Hi
The phone looks good is the international version, install an app like PhoneInfo
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en
And will let you know if is original refurbish....
What you want to do , install a unbranded stock rom ?
here is a guide how to flash stock roms ( warranty safe)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3369431
Or a custom rom , for that you need to root and install a custom recovery. warranty will be lost ( knox bit 0 x 1) and you will not be able to use Samsung pay
There are a few good custom roms , almost stock , Superman rom is good , Omega is good , PheniX also good
Stock rom would be fine to be honest as its my mums phone and she isnt exactly a "poweruser", have just installed and ran phoneinfo but its not really giving me any country of origin or manufacture date information, it does say it has root existence and the android build date has numeric as well as chinese characters.

mate that does not look good , seem it is a fake , what the program says under HARDWARE / platform chip , it should say exynos 8890
If not you are stuck , there is no firmware for clones....
From what you wrote above, I think this is a fake S7, made in China with cheap MediaTek CPU instead of Exynos, and have very little amount of RAM. However, if you use software to view Hardware info, it will say Snap Dragon CPU and 4GB RAM (which should be 3.5GB on the real one), they are clever, but not enough...
There are many ways to distinguish between a real and a fake S7, you can watch is on Youtube, some of the most obvious are the fake one is slow and laggy when you do graphics and cpu intensive tasks (such as multitasking like 7 or 8 apps, or play heavy 3D games), and the fingerprint censor on the fake one works with every fingers, not just the one that you set.
Oh, one more thing, the fake S7 will score very poorly on Geekbench and Antutu Benchmark, since it has only 512Mb ram and crap CPU
edit: Nvm
Looks that way guys, says MT6580 under the platform/chip and a ARM mali-400MP, 4GB ram instead of 3.5gb, i did have my suspicions as she only payed £80 for it lol, its been a good phone in all fairness other than the annoying pop-ups, just a shame there isn't any support real support/roms for it

If it only cost her 80 pounds then it's not that bad. I thought she got scammed into paying full price for it.
The refund process can be really lengthy.

Hi
Try with apps like Package disabler ( i think there is a free version)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
Or titanium backup
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
They allow you to freeze services , apps and bloatware....... you just have to find out which one are popping up
