Is this phone sold in country, or are you going to import it from china? Because if not, I would not recommend you a chinese phone. If it is defective you'll have a hard time returning it (if you can at all) etc.
Btw, if you come from iPhone, I strongly recommend you Google-listed devices (assume you live in the US, it would be HTC One, Nexus 5, SGS4) that come with the stock Android UI. They are updated as soon Google pushes out updates, which is closer what you experience on the iPhone.
Since chinese phones except for Huawei ones are rarely supported in XDA (they lack documentation, source etc) I would not recommend you a chinese phone if you want to try out new ROMs.
If you are ready to take the risks there you go. But as a first time Android user, no way I would go with that phone.
My recommendation for you is the Nexus 5. Hope this helps.
i have to import from china. im a symbian user im sorry i forgot to mentioned where i live. im from sri lanka and no play store available. no way to get a nexus 5. even if somehow managed get my hands on a nexus 5 it would costs me around 550-600$.

If it has to be a chinese phone then I suggest you the Xiaomi Mi3. Great User Interface (MIUI), great update support and best hardware for little money. Xiaomi is also highley popular, it is being regarded like Apple in china.
Go straight for Nubia, it has the best specs out there and far away the best price. I just order it btw.

Good question, in deed I just got a Nubia z5s 3 weeks ago.
(I used to be a Moto supporter, but got disappointed by Moto's sales policy - however, CDMA users can hardly have so many choices as others. forget HTC, bad quality.)
Somebody mentioned Xiaomi, I don't think it's a good option. Nubia's hardware spec is almost the same as Xiaomi, but Xiaomi's shipment and sales policy will drive you crazy. You have to attend to a luck draw first, then could have a chance to buy one!
Regarding the experience, herein I only talk about my experience.
1. BATTERY:
From 7am to 10pm, medium use, about 75% is consumed.
2. DISPLAY:
Much better than MOTO X  , 1080p. Also, the color is not so cold as Samsung.
3. VOICE&MESSAGE:
Fairly clear, however the location of Mic is just under USB port. sometimes your finger could swipe it when picking up.
As CM user, very delighted to see vibrate setup in "settings", SMS also designed with popup
4. CAMERA
I didn't test too much. However, the respond speed is satisfying.
5. SOFTWARE
a. I have to acknowledge that the UI design is lower than my expectation, especially the icons. Styles in default apps and system UI are not actually unique. But most Androider will change the launcher at soonest, am I right? (ps. I really hate Samsung's UI and the screen density!)
b. Furthermore, the system compatibility...there's no surprise, also no fetal bugs.
c. Seemed Nubia team learnt a lot from CM team. They just released source CODE on their website.
d. It can be ROOTED easily.
e. Some local team has ported CWM RECOVERY on it. Nice job!
f. It's said MIUI by local team is on the way. Also, some guy is working on its AOSP now.
6. AUDIO
Sorry but I never play songs via cell phone. Somebody has idea?
7. DESIGNING
I spent almost one week to get familiar with the weight - it's too light
8. NETWORK
GSM/TD/CDMA, not sure if it can be used in Verizon network?
In conclusion, it didn't disappoint me. I'd be delighted to see more improvements or 3rd party's works on ROMs in near future.
Guys, is this phone suitable for the dutch network and.if flashed with multi language you can use dutch language?

hey guys help me with ur views and suggestions.
Spice MI-410 (Rebranded Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) - 13K -- Nothing beats this for value for money - 4.1" 800x480 Screen, Qualcomm MSM8255, Adreno 205GPU, 5MP Cam with Flash, 512MB RAM.
HTC Desire (Not S / HD) - 15-16K
Motorola Defy - 15K
If you are ready to consider 'mid range' devices, the range of choices grows a lot. You can then include Galaxy Ace, Wildfire S, ChaCha, Dell XCD35, Huawei U8800 X5. But, if I were to buy a phone today at 15K, I would pick one from the 1st 3. (Inclining more and more to the Spice, but, sadly, there's no section for it at XDA - Yet)

thanks,
is spice (Huawei IDEOS U9000 X6) reliable in terms of hardware and stuff ? i'm not able to get desire for 15-16k (dealers in delhi are quoting around 20k !!!!). i checked out defy but it seems to lag especially while scrolling up and down the screen...
was in dilemma so posted here for help.
The X6 should be reliable, I don't see why not. Besides, it is backed by the normal manufacturer warranty.
Desire was on stock at Flipkart.com for 16.5K but is unfortunately not in stock ATM.
Saholic.com lists the Desire as in Stock though at 15.5K, and, since they are a Spice initiative, the MI-410 is also available exclusively through them online (For 14K - as I stated above). Only thing - You'll have to be comfortable buying a phone online.
For the Defy, I have tested it quite a lot(A friend of mine has it), and, frankly, I haven't felt any lag at all. Then again, maybe its because I have a Wildfire, and everything other than it will feel fast.
Good Luck

I previously had no Android experience and recently bought Xperia X10 Mini Pro as suggested by friends in a haste as an upgrade from my Nokia E63. After purchasing it, I found it out to be more of a downgrade. The phone itself is outdated but that is a different issue.
Web browsing is better, I got GPS and music is a major overhaul. But the inability to do proper multitask and lack of GSM-GPRS Dual Mode means this is not gonna replace my E63. Sadly, as deep as I have searched, Dual mode is not as easily available among Androids and proper multitasking requires huge RAM compared to Nokia. So I need suggestion on a cheap android that can truly replace, suppose a Nokia E71. Does such an Android phone really exist?
ZTE blade maybe the best one for the guy had no Android experience, or a better one, MOTO defy.

ZTE models are sadly not available Here in Kolkata. That model would not have suited me either. But DEFY is a seriously good mobile. Got good RAM, Armv7, PowerVR GPU, long battery life. Price is within my capability. It is also water/scratch/dust resistant. Are u sure that it supports dual mode? The website does not mention.
I didn't understand the issue with camera clearly, If I get the GREEN version does that mean camera will never work for me using CM9? [I am damn sure India gets green. Guess I'll have to sacrifice ICS then]
From this post it seems that Moto Defy supports Dual Transfer Mode. The only concern that remains now is about ICS update and the camera. Can anyone clarify that?
When it comes to pricing, no one can beat Nokia
There are lots of cheap Android phone available in the market, but you have to compensate in the screen resolution, speed etc. I wud recommend you Galaxy S (i9000) if you can afford...cheaper than dat is Galaxy ACE & Galaxy GIO.
Check if HUAWEI is available in your location, they are the cheapest highly loaded Android devices here in Oman.
zte monte carlo nice
Problem is, none of the mobiles you mention has Dual Transfer Mode in official specs, while even the latest Nokia, the Lumina 800 mentions Dual Transfer Mode (MSC 32) clearly in its specs. It is sad how Symbian died due to lack of interest from the part of application developers, but it had the best multitasking among all mobile OSes. In Android, whenever I minimise Opera Mini to do something else, I am always afraid that perhaps opening the next file will unload the browser in background; while in S60, u can have 20 apps running and 20 tabs open in browser in a handset with only 128 MB RAM, if pushed to its limit, the device will reboot but never ninja kill apps in background.
I can provide many links where people complain about lack of DTM in their Androids. Sony Vivaz is a S60 and it supports DTM.
Some said that editing build.prop allows DTM in some HTC phones. I have tried that in X10 Mini Pro and it did not work. Seems the radio antenna itself is cheap.
I recently ran a test in my X10 Mini Pro by starting a file download in it and sending a barrage of SMSes from another phone simultaneously. The download failed, none of those SMSes arrived ever.
So please mention how u know that those devices suggested have DTM. It is necessary.
I think I need to update my question. From this post, it seems that SE does not provide DTM as 3G already supports multiple connections. SE may think that there is no necessity of this technology in this age of 4G but in India 3G is both costly and rare.
I need GSM DTM, not the simultaneous voice and data capability of 3G.
Edit: I have subscribed for 3G. I was shocked to find that good quality 3G is cheaper than US here. It will be activated within 24 hours. Lets see if dual mode works now; else I'll have to get another handset with better radio.
Update: Ok HSDPA allows simultaneous voice and data in this handset. But 3G drops during calls perhaps due to poor signal so I need stock ROM to force WCDMA only.
Need advise on getting a Docomo Sharp Aquos Sh-01D.
Does anyone have any experience in using a Docomo phone ? I'm have the following concern:
1. Will I be able to get any updates if I'm using the phone outside Japan when I'm using another Telco sim card ?
2. Generally does it comes with built-in English GUI support ?
3. Does it support other language like Chinese ? If not can I get any chinese pack installed ?
I'm attracted to the design of the phone and thus I have got someone who is traveling in Japan to buy on my behalf.
Need some advise; and this is going to be my first android device.
Docomo smartphone question
Hi hagenuk
1. Will I be able to get any updates if I'm using the phone outside Japan when I'm using another Telco sim card ?
For updates, you can use wifi connection. If you are using other telco sim it might be possible but I cannot you give any guarantee. With wifi it is most of the cases.
2. Generally does it comes with built-in English GUI support ? Yes Japanese Phones nowadays are with English GUI. Most of the time Japanese and English are available and other languages for some models like Xperia and galaxy's.
3. Does it support other language like Chinese ? If not can I get any chinese pack installed ? With Xperia models definitely yes but other models
most likely not. With android you can purchase language pack for Chinese. Because in my case with non Japanese Android phone, I can install Japanese language support like atok from market.
for Q3.
I've tried install morelocale
And it doesn't get full chinese GUI
But in some app which support chinese(eg.google+/gmail), they can display chinese.

Same with T01d, the settings is still in default language.
for Q1:
If it's a software update you must be in Japan with a ntt docomo sim card to update.
If it's a major update you must first have your phone updated to the latest version before you update using wifi or PC, i.e. software update (if ever exists) is a prerequisite of a major update. Changing proxy as on SH-12C might work but who knows.
hi i just got this device for my bro in Singapore
Its great and all the hardware features easily knocks competition out of the way. Its fully software unlock means any sim card can be used and data / 3G / WIFI / tethering all fully working. My bro using it in english not sure about Chinese.
Only disadvantages are I feel is during gaming the phone heats up (due to duo core and its amazingly thin design its brightness would be forced lowered to reduce temperature but other than that not problems. it will not force restart like what those folks are experiencing with the LG optimus 2x ) Battery drains super fast hahas (might want to consider the optional 2500mhz battery ). But I play Dead Space on it a graphics intensive game its awesome. Also I dun think anyone on xda is developing this device so it might be hard to get it rooted. But who cares!! its great!!!
PS: If its really hot you can do this watch the video

Yeah, it does heat up! It takes about 25 minutes playing a graphics intensive game (I was playing The Last Defender HD) for it to start getting very hot. And the game sometimes hangs or gets choppy.

Playing any game or browsing drains the battery amazingly quickly. I think it's more than 15% in 30 minutes.
Hi all!
How about changing proxy? I need to check if there's an update.
Phone reboots like 3-4 times a day and receives text messages late...
Maybe there's some updates that can fix it...

PS: i've already tried to wipe it, but persist. I buyed it in Akihabara and made the unlock with a Japanese friend in a NTT Docomo shop...
Hey:
I can totally relate to you. I love the Docomo design.
However, IF you live anywhere besides Asia, I would actually not recommend purchasing it.
I lived in Beijing for a year and I bought the phone. I used it there for a few months then came back to the States. Back home in Colorado, the thing is just for looks. The phone would constantly lose connection; I had to keep CPR-ing it everytime it hit a place with low signal. A lot of the programs, cool quirks of the phone is disabled anywhere outside of Japan. You can basically just do the simple text and call. It may have improved now, but I wasn't even able to connect online with the phone.
Yes, you can get Chinese installed. My phone had Japanese, English, Trad. Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
If the price was not so high ($500+), I would've be more inclined to suggest you buy it.. I mean, their designs are gorgeous. BUT... Personal experience, my phone was priceeeey and I used it for no more than 3 months before I finally forfeited and used an ugly Tmobile phone.
Just my two cents; let me know what you decide either way!

Any success to get OTG working on an SH01D?
Hello guys, I am Thomas from Hong Kong. I had bought the HTC E8 (white colour) China Unicom version through online. Used for a week and would like to write a simple unboxing here.
The phone costs me RMB 2999. Package includes: the phone itself, a China brand Power Bank, screen protector, Dot View case and 16G Toshiba class 4 micro SD card. There are several colours of Dot View case and the online seller randomly choose a grey one for me.
The front of the phone is identical with HTC M8, but the back comes with plastic instead of metal like M8. Packing phone, Antutu benchmark screen capture and some sample photos are attached below. I zip the sample photos for convenience.
My using experience:
1. It is a dual sim phone. Sim 1 support 4G network while Sim 2 only support 2G network
2. 5 inch size is perfect for single hand control when compare with the last phone I use ----- LG G Pro which has 5.3 inch of screen
3. With the S801 CPU, it runs very smooth
4. English, Chinese simplified and Chinese tradition (Taiwan) are available as system language.
5. It is compatible with M8 screen protector (I am using a M8 Glass M screen protector and it works great) but NOT compatible with M8 case protector as the position of camera is different
6. There are some local (Mainland China) apps. Some can be uninstall by default. Some cannot unless root the phone.
7. Blinkfeed is available in this phone but the region is set to China only. It only support those Chinese social network apps and IM apps, such as weibo, wechat. It cannot support facebook, twitter.
8. There is no google service by default. However, I can download an app called "GMS Installer" through the HTC Marketplace comes with the phone. Open GMS Installer and it will help you to download and install those google service such as google play, google map etc.
9. Battery is non removable. It can add micro SD Card. NFC is also available in this phone.
10. With daily usage such as listening music, instant messaging, social networking, internet access, the phone can be used around 10 hours or something.
Feel free to ask question, thanks

No, there is no sim lock for this phone. I can use the operator in HK without problem
What do you mean with not supporting facebook and twitter?
After installing Google Services, you can't install facebook or twitter from Google Play?
My mistake, I understand this only applies to Blinkfeed.
Where did you get your phone from? Merimobiles? Efox?
Regarding the non-uninstallable chinese apps, are they always-on, battery-draining services or something you can just ignore without any consequence?
Thank you.

Hi Thomas,
first thanks for your information about the E8.
I have the chance to get one too but i would like to know some details before buying.
Maybe you can help me ?
How is th dual-sim-menue in th E8 ? How does it differ in the top-line ?
I have S4 Dual-Sim GT-I9502. Can you set in the pull down menü the main sim ? Switching that fast ?
How far is rooting ? Doesnt work the tools from M8 ?
Did you use it in Europe already ?
Did you get the normal Google playstore over the GSM-Installer from HTC-Marketplace ?
Did you try the "more local"-app for different languages ?
Did you get updates OTA already ? Buildnumber ! Android 4.4.2 ?
Next week comes here in germany/austria/swiss the HTC ONE M8 Dual SIm. This is an exact copy of the "normal" M8 only with two sims.
Body is in full metal, camera is same as in M8, everything same, but only two sims.
Attention !!! The prize is 5770 RBM (680€) !!! Thats much. Ok , fine that they bring it to europe but prizing is really high.
OK, when i order from etotalk etc prizing is same espically when customs duty has to pay.
Thanks for your answers,
Regards

No Google Playstore, Google Maps by default. The method of adding them had been mentioned in the 1st post

Hi Thomas,
first thanks for your information about the E8.
Thanks for your answers,
Regards

Dear Mr .....Um.....Mr Hell,
1. I would say the dual sim menu is nothing special. I had done some screen capture related to dual sim menu, you may take a look.
2. There is no option related to dual sim in the pull down menu like the Samsung GS4 dual sim version. When you want to make a call or send out sms, after you press the number or input sms text, you need to choose which sim card you want to use for dial or sms. Screen capture of dial menu and sms menu is attached for you reference.
3. I did not try root this phone yet.
4. I do not have chance to use it in Europe yet. Maybe I have if I can save more money and go travel to Europe
5. Yes, I can get the normal Google Playstore through the GMS Installer
6. Yes, I use apps come with Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English. No problems are found.
7. It comes with Android 4.4.2. By the way, I received OTA updates today. I update it but I can't find any difference
About the dual sim version of HTC M8, I think wtf it is not just worth that expensive. If you are not that in need of 4G dual sim phone, I suggest you can wait as we can expect more of 4G dual sim phone is coming in the future. But if you really want one right now, E8 is good.
Regards,
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
you can say "goes" to me !
Thanks for you detailed discription and for the pics.
Same with me for the prize of the M8. Thats why i am going on E8. And i think on E8 is more community in the future. I dont have 4G Sim at the moment but it is my favourite to go on Dual-Sim. Right now i have the gt-i9502 (S4) in use. My N9002 (Note3) i sold to a friend.
And now i need a new toy !
By the way before i forgot. Is on HTC something like Knox (on Samsung) ? Knox-trigger to see someone has done flashing Custom-ROM or anything else ?
With the "more local-app" i mean https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale to set language you want.
Playstore-link from europe !!! Didnt try this app !!! Read ratings !!!). This app can set language you want without root.
When i read right what you write you cant define the default sim that is used always when you dial except you chosse explicit the other one ? See my pics: First one in the menue bar the one which is active is squared around. Second one: When menue is pulled down there a two buttons, one for sim1 as default and the second for second as default. How does HTC manage that ?
Regards

Hi Thomas.
Good post, I am envious that you got the dot case included for that price.
I purchased an E8 in shanghai yesterday and had to pay 3,200 RMB as they have sold out everywhere, and the demand is high.
I obviously want to root my phone so that I can either:
a) install Google apps and remove bloatware (yes I have run the GMS installer app but prefer to have full root control
or
b) flash a European ROM as they become available in the near future.
I haven't as yet seen any Custom Recoveries for this device yet.. I have been watching here: http://bbs.gfan.com/forum-1513-type-10958.html as I expected that they might become available there first. Are you aware of any other sites in China that might have a custom recovery available yet?
thanks thomas for the tips ,I hope the device to come in greece...
Hi,
Additional question to my post #12:
In german forum we have a discussion whether it is really DualSim-Full-active DSFA or Dual-Standby.
Can someone who has that device ensure what kind of Dual-Sim it has ?
Does it have nano or micro sim ?
Thanks a lot !

Dear Thomas,
Why the sample photos are in 4MP? Is not the E8 have 13MP camera?

After an online search, Knox is something like security apps right? HTC does not provide such kinds of apps.
For the "Morelocale 2" you suggest, according to the description of the apps, it will work only if you root the phone or use the development tool to do some modification. I am not plan to root the phone at this moment (maybe later if some good custom roms come out) and the development tool is a little bit difficult for me. I had tried and install the apps, but without root or using development tools, it wont work.
For the dual sim, I had tried my best to explore every corner of the phone, there is no way to set which sim is default. I also attached the homescreen here, Unlike your GS4 dual sim version, the signal of 2 sims show with nothing special.

Dear Kiwiandy,
OMG WTF they sell it that expensive in Shanghai? Is it include the Dot View case, Powerbank, screen protector and the TF Card? I suggest if you wanna get a phone in China, ask you colleague or friend to help you order online. The price should be more reasonable.
I am also waiting for a custom rom so that the blinkfeed can support facebook, twitter. Support of weibo, wechat not useful to me indeed.

Just conduct a small test. It is a Dual Standby phone only. I use sim 1 to dial out some kinds of service hotline and I use my mother's phone to call my sim 2 no, sim 2 can't connect.
And it use nano sim for both sim slots

When I make the 1st post, I am not allowed to post external link for photo. I just found that I can do so now. Right click for original size. The quality of the photo is much or less the same as the last phone I had, the LG G Pro
1) I'm hoping someone can advise pls! I'm a very light user mostly for wsapp and sometimes maps/gps when walking (no gaming and occasionally watch youtube videos) so was hoping to find something £40-£50.

There are others I'm looking at but they don't mention anything about the processor (sometimes it'll mention the number of cores but no name)? The specs seem way better than even xiaomi phones for the same money, I know there's gonna be no support updates etc. how important is that? Couldn't I just search for a custom ROM, try to upgrade to higher android version etc? Would it be difficult/impossible to find roms for an unbranded phone?
Also I've read that there's a possibility they could just be sneaky re-brands so potentially could be getting a xiaomi etc. phone for less?
2) I'm also considering paying a bit more if unbranded is a no-go. Xiaomi Redmi 7 3GB/32GB around £100 vs Xiaomi Mi Play 4GB/64GB if it's £6 more?
I like the extra ram and storage for only £6 more but the battery seems better on R7 and larger screen

I've seen some advertisements (on wish.com or Ali Express) for devices with no apparent name brand that mention having 10 core processors, dual sim, Android 9 and more. These are all MTK devices which pose difficulties if you want to flash a ROM into them to upgrade or change something. RCA tablets are MTK devices and I, along with many others have spent a lot of time just trying to gain access to such devices. It's been done. However, it has been more than difficult as of yet to find any compatible ROMs and these devices are extremely picky when it comes to using other ROMs. For those of us that are currently still working on it, we have yet to find anything compatible. That's not saying they are bad devices, they are actually pretty good I've had mine (the RCA Maven, Viking and Galileo) for years with little problems.

Thanks for the reply. Any MTK processor devices are difficult/unlikey to have custom roms or tweak/upgrade in any way?

Theoretically there should be, but many here would rather work on the newest devices most of which are not MTK (Media Tek). They're not built like Samsungs and if you open one up the whole motherboard is the size of today's phones or roughly one quarter the size of the tablet which could be the reason they're so cheap. The only thing I've been able to flash into mine is the original stock firmware, anything else led to bricking. And recovering from a brick is difficult the SP Flash tool is nothing like the Odin3 we use for Samsungs.

I have also bought uhans u300 and took a look at the Development & Support topic here, there's absolutely no way to upgrade it from Android 6.0?
