Question: Best laptop specs for Video Editing / Post-production

Hello XDA!
I'm thinking on buying a laptop with main porpouse to edit videos in Premiere CC and After Effects CC. The Raw videos I intend to edit are from my DSLR camera Canon 600D (1080P 50FPS). As right now, I have Asus K52Jc (i5, 4gb of ram and nvidia 310m) and I am able to edit Full HD videos, but it's kinda pain in a a**. The maximum I can spend as right now is 1000€ and I don't want to buy Desktop.
I'm here to ask you guys if you can explain me what does video editing consume at most. And the most, how important is GPU for Premiere / After Effects? Is nVidia Geforce GT740m 2GB DDR3 good for editing FULL HD videos?
P.S. I know you will telling me to buy TOP GPU cards, but I don't really have much money to spend.

Basically any of the core i5s will work.
But even with haswell the graphics are exceptionally weak.
At least get a haswell i5 an ssd(Very beneficial) and have 4gb of ram and usb 3.0.
Look for laptops with an exotic graphics config like an nvidia gpu on the motherboard.
It's hard to find a good laptop for this vs building a desktop pc.
Hope it works out for you.

Hello there,
Basically I have DSLR Camera (Canon 600D) which I use to film in Full HD (1080P 50fps) for my movies (short plays and medium plays).
So, I am thinking to buy a laptop with main porpouse to edit my videos in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6 and I would like to ask you guys if you can help me choose one. Maximum I could spend is 1000€.
So, I don't care how much time my laptop will take to export movies, but what is most important to me is smooth editing ( fast pre-rendering). I know that pre-render / in software render uses Nvidia CUDA cores to acelerate the process.
I choosed these two laptops:
ASUS K750JB:
Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
12GB RAM 1600mHz
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores <<< ---- can this one do the job done?
1TB 5400RPM <<<--- I am thinking on buying 60GB SSD extra for OS and Adobe Programs
17.2'' Screen 1600x900
Price: 799€
HP Envy 15-j011sp:
Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
8GB RAM 1600mHz <<<---- I could buy 4GB extra
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores
1TB 5400RPM <---- I could buy 60GB SSD extra
15.6'' Screen 1920x1080
Price: 810€
So, as you saw, Two of these laptops have 740M Graphic card. Asus is parcially alluminun, but HP is totally alluminum.
Do you think these two are good for edit videos from my DSLR camera? As I said, I don't care how much time it takes to render movie. What is most important to me is editing smooth experience.
Thank you!

From my experience definitely get the asus laptop with an ssd. (Much higher quality build)
You could also use an external screen like your tv as long it is 1920x1080. (The asus laptop is not 1080p)
If ^this is an issue then look for a model of asus that has an internal 1080p screen.
The Hp laptops I found to be extremely horribly cooled.
Also try to get an ssd with mlc nand so it asts longer.

[Q] Q: Chromebooks: HP Chromebook 14 vs. new Samsung Chromebook 2??

Hello! My Dell laptop is broken and have decided to get a Chromebook after realizing I don't do much on my previous laptop except web surfing. I do have a Note 3 and Nook HD+ 9in rooted with CM10 installed but sometimes I just have to browse on a bigger screen with a dedicated keyboard for typing. Having full blown Chrome browser instead of the mobile version is great too. So, I need a bit of help trying to decide between the two Chromebooks I've narrowed down to.
Here are the specs for the HP Chromebook 14 (from walmart):
Key Features and Benefits:
Intel Celeron 2955U processor
1.40GHz, 2MB L3 Cache
4GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory
16GB solid state drive
Store 10,000 photos, 4,500 songs or 8 hours of HD video and more
802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN
Wirelessly connect to a WiFi signal or hotspot with the 802.11a/b/g/n connection built into your PC
Intel HD Graphics
With HDMI capabilities
Bluetooth
HP TrueVision HD webcam
SD memory card reader
1 x USB 2.0 port, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x HDMI port, 1 x headphone/microphone jack
4-cell lithium-ion battery
4.07 lbs, 0.81" x 13.56" x 9.44"
Price: $349
Samsung Chromebook 2 (from samsung; will be release in April):
Size: 13.3"
Resolution: Full HD LED Display (1920x1080)
Processor: Exynos 5 Octa (2.1GHz, 2mb L2 cache)
Memory: 4GB DDR3L system memory at 1600MHz
Storage: 16gb e.MMC iNAND embedded flash drive
Camera: 720p HD web camera
Battery life: up to 8.5 hours
Dimensions: 12.72" x 8.8" x x.65"
Weight: 3.09 lbs
Ports: 1 HDMI, 1 USB3.0, 1 USB2.0, MicroSD multi-media card reader, Headphone out/Mic-in combo, DC in
Price: $399.99
Does it look like it will be worth it to spend an extra $50 for the Samsung to get HD resolution and a better processor? I do like the HP's bigger size but at least the Samsung isn't as small as the other Chromebooks (11 inches).
Thanks all!
Hi, hope my reply is not too late.
I purchased the HP 14 two months ago and I havent looked back. I am not a big games player but I do use a laptop a lot as I am a teacher and use presentations very often. It took a bit of getting used to working in a different way but I havent used Powerpoint on my laptop for over a month now.
I am more than happy with the HP with long battery life at 7hrs plus, good graphics (although some moan abaout the screen), easy use keyboard and a responsive touchpad.
So, I cant say anything about the samsung but the HP is a nice piece of kit with the 3g built in.

[Q] Computer bottleneck ?

Hi!
I'm posting this in general, since its a general question. Not neccecarily connected to phones.
So recently I've been testing out my hardware pretty hard when it comes to games.
And I'm not getting what I want.
What I want is to play at high settings with a high steady FPS (doesnt anyone?)
Games I've been testing are:
Battlefield 4
Wildstar Online
The Elder Scrolls Online
So I'm thinking of upgrading my computer,
but I'm wondering what I should upgrade first, or if its even needed?
I thought of upgrading my RAM to 32GB, or buying a new (or another one like the one I have?) GFX-card?
Specs:
Mainboard: ASUS P9X79 Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930k 6-core 3.2GHz (Overclocked to 4.4GHz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
HDD\SSD: Western Digital Green 2TB SATA3 6Gb/s + Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB
RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1866MHz 16GB Kit (4x4GB)
GFX: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 2GB PhysX CUDA
PSU: Corsair TX 850W PSU
Screens: 2x 24" Asus LED VG248QE
Headset: ASTRO Gaming A50 7.1
Mouse: Mionix Naos 8200
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70
Any help is appriciated!

Dag

This should be discussed in the off-topic thread....
32 gb RAM, what you wanna do? Play Battlefield 4 or develop it?
8 Gb is enough, buy a good graphics card and make sure you atleast have a processor equivalent to 2nd gen core i5

[Q] Help finding GPU for Acer X1700 and also cpu fan on full?

I got the above desktop and it didn't have the original nvidia 7100 graphics card in it so I need a replacement. I'm looking at these two:
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6450 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102933
MSI R5450-MD1GD3H/LP Radeon HD 5450 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127557
EVGA GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 64bit DVI/HDMI/VGA Low Profile Graphics Card 02G-P3-3733-KR
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L5GZG5C...lid=15NU2V2FLJ4TD&coliid=I13UZFD4LD1AJ9&psc=1
I'm having trouble finding a graphics card that fits the tiny case and is still in stock. My budget is cheap around $50, just need it for light gaming of ooollldd games like CSS and Mount&Blade and I will probably just use it as a media center for the TV so it needs to be able to run 10gig BluRay rips to my 1080p TV.
My dad has the same desktop and the stock GPU works for all the aforementioned but I need guidance.
[OTHER QUESTION] Also when I boot the computer, the CPU fan runs at full speed as soon as it boots. Is this an issue with the motherboard or is it because the thermal paste is nill? I would think it's the thermal paste but it's not it reacting to overheating because it goes full blast as soon as I turn it on. Is it worth saving? I have already changed the fan options in BIOS and have tried speedfan software to no avail.
EXTRA INFO:
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: (ASAP) BUDGET RANGE: (USD $1-75) After Rebates
USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Mild gaming with CSS, L4D2, Source games, AoE; streaming movies to TV; general usage
CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: 220W power supply
OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: small case will need low profile/small
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Any COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
OVERCLOCKING: Maybe?
MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1900x1200, 1080p 42" lg tv
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Better than stock, running Windows 8
