Bluetooth keyboard case - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

For those who still prefer having a physical QWERTY solution, it appears there will be an option for the S5. Its not yet showing in stock on the US Amazon site, but the same company (Ionic) that makes the S4 & iPhone versions appears to have made an S5 version as well:

The Amazon Canadian site *does* show it in stock via one the marketplace partners:

TV-Out Cable (Micro USB to HDMI)

Samsung has a microUSB cable able to release the video signal to HDMI
The accessory is called ECC1HU0BBEBSTD
like this
http://www.myreplicaphone.com/samsung-ecc1hu0bbebstd-tv-out-cable-micro-usb-to-hdmi.html
Nice!!!
I'll search another website to buy it!
Thank you
If anyone finds a retailer that will ship this to uk please post
If anyone finds this in stock anywhere, please let us know.
It's not been officially documented as supported, so i'm still a bit sceptical.
It's unclear if the i9000 supports this AFAIK. It seems at least the Vibrant and Captivate will support it, but no mention of i9000.
See here: http://briefmobile.com/galaxy-s-does-microusb-to-hdmi
I stand corrected. If it works for the yank models, there's no reason why it shouldn't work for us. I knew of the cable before, just didn't think the SGS hardware supported it.
In stock here
http://www.myluxphone.com/samsung-ecc1hsabbebstd-hdmi-cable-original.html
However the place looks shady imo.. and doesn't accept paypal.
This place too, but they list 2 model numbers though, so I think it may be the wrong cable (too hard to tell if it's microusb by the image).
http://www.aftermarketcellular.com/ic/ECC1HSABBEBSTD.html
EDIT: DON'T BUY! confirmed wrong as instinct has a proprietary jack not micro-usb.
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...subsubtype=data-cables-kits&tab=accCompatible
Doesn’t list galaxy s as a compatible product. I saw this a month ago, and dismissed it – without any confirmation, I’m taking this with a pinch of salt.
It seems to me that some blogs just saw the product on their pages, and assumed it would work with the Galaxy S series of phones. If it did work, I think Samsung would have marketed it as such.
I was also very doubtful at first, but the source is samsung usa's website itself... guide to tv-out clearly shows micro-usb to hdmi.

But it doesn't list Galaxy S as a compatible device. Besides, if it was, I think Samsung would have marketed it as such.

Not sure what remocon is.
Holding down the menu button to search is a replacement for the dedicated search key that Google says you must have. (They want 4 buttons: search, home, menu and back)
Tv out via 3.5mm jack was also advertised. Mobile Tracker... That's just software

Look at this vibrant FAQ

This link aswell (captivate)... but it has since been removed!?!?! Pretty sure yesterday this FAQ also had the hdmi info 0_0... Maybe samsung has picked up on an error?

Okay, I'm a bit more convinced, but I'd love to see some official / visual confirmation. As they say, seeing is believing.

1. The search button is common for any basic phone which is missing in Galaxy S. Dont you think it would have been a good strategy for Samsung to promote dual functionality of menu in order to appease asthetics?
2. The tv out via 3.5mm was never advertised in UK not online, not in papers not on tv.
3. Mobile tracker is a software which Samsung always promotes with other phones. But Samsung didnt promote the feature which was preinstalled in Galaxy S.
4. remocon is also a "software" where you can control Samsung TVs via your phone.
MicroUSB to HDMI would be nice.
But don't you think it's weird ? I mean TV-out by two different connectors ?
Not at all - I like to call it "fully featured"
After taking the i9000 and Vibrant to bits, i know for a fact these 2 devices are using exactly the same parts to the chip and resistor level, except for the radio.
If the Vibrant has it, the i9000 has it. (and vice versa)
Didn't take apart the Captivate yet, but i bet it's also identical.
I'd take the plunge and buy the cable to report to everyone, but it's not available in my country.
Anyone felling like taking one for the team?

This phone sprouts magnificent levels of hidden awesomeness.
I sent a direct message on twatter to @samsungesteban (sp?), and he said that he'll find out if it's supported.

Android iPad-like list?

Is there any device list of Android anti-iPad devices which can be bought and really available on the market?
I'm looking for a programmable device which can, as we currently do with all HTC phones, be modified as preferred changing ROMs and so on..
Do you have any suggestion?
The only ones that exist are straight from china. I would recommend waiting for Samsung's Galaxy Tab or the Verizon/Moto Tablet

Yes I also read about it but I didn't understand prices neither the day start selling..
China versions costs about 150€ and it could be a real intersting device even if I'd like to have also 3g module inside.

[Q] Confusion about model numbers

I bought this Tab plus 7 wifi model - http://www.expansys.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-0-plus-wi-fi-16gb-white-eu-tablet+uk-adapter-231441/
But there are other - so called UK models - for £100 more on the same page. Anyone know what the difference is?
I do see that it says Super AMOLED display which mine has not got. So is that yet another model difference? I am referring to the fact that mine does not have the IR port that other people have complained about.
They really should just state clearly what the main differences are.
They really should state the differences, but instead obviously cant be paying much attention, they describe this wifi version as having HSPA+, calling ,etc.
Anyways, I think all wifi versions of the tab plus have the IR port. The only other EU/UK version of tab plus would be the GT-P6200 with 3G & Wifi.
As far as the 6200's go, it seems there have been 2-3 different versions that are missing IR Port, while other people with the same model device say they have it. So it may be a later production run thing, etc.
Thats to the best of my knowledge.
A lot of people seem to have been caught out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483586
These big companies just don't care. I don't like being caught out. Advertising is supposed to be clear. I have actually complained to Samsung - the US company didn't want to know - pointed me to the UK site so I emailed them too.

[Q] Fate of Google Wallet Tap & Pay

I have been a user of Google Wallet Tap & Pay since it first started. I am currently running it on my Verizon Galaxy S3 with Alliance Rom 22. After all the painful process of getting it to work (NFC Fix, build prop, etc), Google is killing Tap & Pay on all devices <4.4. I'm a fan of Touchwiz roms for some of the features, but I don't want to give up Tap & Pay, especially as new retailers are finally starting to integrate it.
I will need to upgrade to 4.4.2, and there is still an issue with the current S3 NFC chip (NXP) not being compatible with the new HCE. Does anyone know of a fully working ROM 4.4.2, AOSP based, or a 4.3 ROM with this functionality available? Do I simply have to wait for 4.4.3, and lose Tap & Pay until it drops?
Thanks,
Alan
Since Verizon has their own competing product and never supported Google Wallet, I think your chances of having it in any version of Android except by hack, like you currently run it are slim. Its doesn't seem that Google really wants to be in this payment business anyway judging from the very limited market penetration and lack of retailer acceptance.
Host Card Emulation, or HCE is not a new chip, its a new method. It allows Google to bypass carrier rules that prevent an app from accessing something as integral as an NFC secure element. Instead, it would use just NFC safely. This means that Wallet users were no longer limited to Sprint or Nexus devices, so maybe there is a chance. But I see Google's lack of marketing for tap and pay as an indication that they may let it die unless they find more marketing partners.
For more insight into Google wallet fail mode, see this interview with its creators.
http://www.fastcompany.com/3021913/...llet-creators-reflect-on-its-failures-lessons
I agree with everything you just said above.
My question isn't if Google Wallet will be supported - it never has been on Verizon with the GS3, and likely never will.
While HCE does not require a NFC secure element, it currently does not support all NFC chips - there are numerous threads regarding this. Some device manufacturers have added code to make HCE work with the NXP NFC chip in other phones, however Samsung has not done this. The rumor is that 4.4.3 may add this coding.
What I am looking for is the best way to keep my Google Wallet hack options going forward.
If there is expected to be a TW based rom with the elements from 4.4.3 that will allow Wallet to work, I would go with that.
Otherwise, I may as well switch over to an AOSP ROM in the hopes that the next version will allow Wallet to work again. The deadline for the death of tap and pay is 4/14/14, so I'll have to make my decision soon.
Has anyone confirmed HCE working with SGS3 on a 4.4.2 rom? Or are we all dependent on the soon-to-be extinct Secure Element?
There is hope!
There have been some articles in the past few days about mounting evidence of a 4.4.2 update for the US versions of the S3. Both Mashable and JustAboutPhones have printed leaks of the update being in the final testing phase, with possible release in the first week of May.
Both articles quote support for NFC Tap and Pay.
With Verizon, this doesn't ensure we will be able to use Google Wallet Tap and Pay, as I'm sure they will do everything they can to cripple it in favor of ISIS. However, I'll bet code can be ported from a Sprint ROM that will allow a Custom TW 4.4.2 ROM with this functionality.
I hope Beans and the AllianceRom team will be looking at this - I miss my Tap and Pay.
Alan
Tap and Pay was very cool and easy to use. Main reason I rooted my Verizon S3. Lost that ability when I upgraded then soft bricked my phone. Got it back and rooted, and looking for a ROM to load that will support Google Wallet and Tap and Pay...
I've found the link to be able to download the Samsung Pay Beta .apk file but I haven't figured out how to get it to install. Does someone else want to try? I'm stuck on a Samsung S6 Edge running 5.0.2. I wonder if you have to have 5.1.1 to run it.
Korea Link - https://kr.mpay.samsung.com/apk
US Link - https://us.mpay.samsung.com/apk
Here's a download link for the Samsung Pay .apk file I found on the Korean link. It lets me install it on my Samsung S6 Edge+ running android 5.1.1.

I called today and they told me to download the Samsung Plus app from the Google playstore. I downloaded it agreed to the terms and logged in and then inside the app there was a link that said "Join Samsung Pay Beta". So far it doesn't do anything, but it seems promising that it might work tomorrow after the beta has officially begun.

[Q] Decent android phone with physical keyboard?

Hey, it's my sister's birthday coming up and she wants a new phone. So being the android fan that I am, I want to get here an android. However, she's slightly autistic and struggles with touch screen keyboards (She used to own a touch screen Samsung and has an android tablet) since she got herself a crabberry I have noticed a huge improvment in her typing and she has even told me she doesn't want to get a phone where she is required to use a touch screen to type.
So my question is, are there any half-decent android phones with a physical qwerty keyboard on the market right now that aren't ridiculously priced?
Thank you in advance.
I think there is no fresh model with physical keyboard. I once had HTC chacha and it was probably last decent android phone with qwerty keyboard

niziou is right, i dont think they make physical keyboard phones anymore.
The DROlD 4 is you best bet.

Depends on the carrier (assuming you're in the US). The 4 major carriers all have or had sliding QWERTY keyboard phones, but nothing terribly recent. AT&T had the Samsung Captivate Glide, T-Mobile had the LG F3Q, Sprint had the Motorola Photon Q, Verizon had the Droid series. They're at least a couple years old, and none run anything newer than 4.0 or 4.1.
I feel weird saying this, and it's probably the only time I've ever recommended looking at a BlackBerry, but check out the Q10. Classic BB keyboard, a smallish 3.1" 720p screen (1:1 ratio, that's kinda weird), OK processor, 2gb RAM. Stuff apparently runs smooth and snappy, although the gesture-based navigation is very unlike Android or iOS. The main reason I'd say to look at one is that BB OS 10.2 can run Android apps (via side-loading, I assume) that are 4.1 JB compatible and earlier. The Q10 is available on pretty much any provider.
Otherwise, you're looking at finding a good condition used or refurbed or possibly NOS Android from a couple years ago or so. The LG F3Q is actually pretty new (came out in January), but its specs aren't. The good news is that any of those older ones should be pretty cheap.

Well that is not completely true. To be honest I can talk about the captivate glide only but for it there are 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 and of course also the newest 4.4 Android version available as custom rom. If you have no fear to install a custom rom I absolutely and highly recommend the captivate glide. Depends on what your preferences are but in my case it is the best qwerty atm. At least for me because I live in Europe and I do not want to do any physical SIM mods etc like you need to do for the Photon e.g.
The Glide has a a good community and many different roms available.
The LG Optimus F3Q which was released this year is available at tmobile only atm. That and the fact that it is quite new results in not a good support for custom roms for it atm. That may / hopefully will change (there is already work on this) but who knows what happens. So IMHO buy a glide

Hey, I've been thinking about this for almost 4 years and finally have an answer.
The Blackberry PRIV, aka STV100-1, is a slider with a physical keyboard. (Yes, that Blackberry, though someone else actually does the phone.) I don't use the keyboard, but I have the phone because I like it otherwise. For whatever reason, it was not a big hit, so you can buy them used for $100 or so on you-know-where. It runs Android 6.0.1. It includes many fancy BB high-security messaging things, but I don't use those either.
