I saw that there is a 1gb ram version of the zpad out with 3g and GPS. I would really like to have the gps and 3g option in my first tablet.
Was curious if the source that Viewsonic will release will be fully compatible with the Ztablet so that we can use the same roms etc. Will everything be use-able since the hardware is near identical? Does it have the same screen issues as the GTab, etc?
I don't want to buy the Notion Ink Adam but the GPS is a must for me as is the 3g.
Anybody who has info please fill me in as I would appreciate it. I am dying to pull the trigger and buy a tablet, just want to get the most bang for the buck.

Well, I would imagine that the source Viewsonic releases will be more-or-less compatible with the ZTablet, as far as that goes. I'm reasonably sure there won't be any drivers for 3G or GPS included in there though, so custom-rolled kernels might not work with your 3G and GPS, unless you can find other source out there for those drivers.
The real issue is just that since nobody here in the west has the Malata itself, you are stuck with relying for support on a Chinese company and forums that are all in Chinese.
The solution for now to data and GPS on the go, by the way, is tethering. People here have been experimenting with GPS tethering (over bluetooth) and wifi tethering for mobile data service works well with Android phones.
The advantage of the Viewsonic is that you've got a whole forum full of geeks here on XDA that will improve the device for their own ends, and will whine at Viewsonic for you to get Viewsonic to support the device. Plus a bunch of retailers that will shove it up Viewsonic's arse if they aren't supporting it.

This. If anything, I think XDA forums support alone makes the G-Tablet an easy choice.
I originally had my heart set on the Archos 101, but their limited availability made it very hard to purchase. As I was stumbling around on the interwebs I happened across the G-Tablet which I had seen previously but dismissed because of this craptastic custom version of Android. But once I read that not only was it completely unlocked, the XDA crew had gotten behind it full-force, and CM had already been ported it was a no-brainer. Went and picked up the G-Tablet 30 minutes later and I haven't looked back since.
I promise if you get this device and load VEGAn ROM on it you will have absolutely no regrets. I see a lot of people whining about poor viewing angles but honestly this is not a problem for me. When I use it I am always looking at it straight on or in my lap. Turning it upside-down in your lap fixes any viewing angle issues. So this argument is m00t for me
3G and gps
With a custom rom and the great help from this site I've tethered my GTab to my Droid 1 thru wifi tether to share the 3g and thru the bluetooth to share the gps. I tested it yesterday in town using my Gtab to navigate. It took about 20 minutes to set up following the help in this forum.
I could be wrong, but I thought I read on here that the 1gb one had some partitioning differences that made it difficult to run custom ROMS. I see the malata going for about 599 on ebay, a bit pricey for 3G and GPS. You could get an Android phone and tether (3G + GPS) for the price difference.
I own an original Nexus 1 and I get that there is an option to tether etc, but I really want you use my phone more as a phone and whatever tablet I buy as a GPS/Web Device.
Just was hoping that whatever was developed for the G-Tab in the comings weeks would be 100% compatible with the zPad. The extra ram and the GPS seem logical for future software and for as much as I travel
It will almost certainly be 100% compatible with the ZPad, in the sense that the ROMs should all run on the ZPad. Without 3G or GPS support. Because we don't have those drivers in our kernel, and we most likely won't get source for them from Viewsonic.
You can *probably* take a stock Malata kernel build and run it with one of the ROMs here and get 3G+GPS working. You'll just have to do a bit of work yourself.
Apparently there is a Gtab version shipping with a gig of RAM right now and slot for GPS? Anyone have photos of the box or any other details? My nexus 1 needs a big brother

Where did you see this? Someone here has opened one up and found there are places for extra ram, gps, and 3g but I haven't seen a new GTab releaseed that way yet.

I am based in india and want to have motorola atrix 2 as my first android smartphone due to it's features and appropriate pricing. I know the question might sound a bit subjective or useless to some people but i need honest comments about this device from it's users. Since in India, we don't get such high end phones on contract from carriers, we pay full price for the phone at the time of purchase. In the past, motorola has received loads of criticisms about bad quality smartphones, that's why m a bit confused. So please let me know how is the phone for long term usage, any major issues faced, your recommendation for this device or anything useful that you might like to add for a guy who is new to the android dual core devices. Users from India might also be able to show true picture of service quality and after sales.

Well, considering the phone was released only 7 months ago, it might be difficult to get an idea of long-term quality... but, of the 4 months I have had mine (dang, only 4 mos?? - seems a lot longer than that), I have had no problems (that I didn't cause myself ) - and I have put it through a lot of use and abuse... Others reportedly have had hardware issues, etc., but that's they way it goes with any device - there are always a few bad eggs with their own peculiarities and/or defects.
It's got great performance out of the box (for the price) and is built like a tank, if you ask me - a good choice for your first android. But, of course my opinion is biased and subjective...
Plus, with the fantastic (but few) developers we have for the A2, things are about to get even more interesting around here (i.e. plenty of ROMs and mods already available, a soon to be bypassed/unlocked bootloader, new kernels on the horizon (no rush, jim), ICS update relatively soon, etc...)
Its a good phone but i kinda regret for buyin it as i cud have got s2 for 5k bucks more. D camera sucks in takin photos. Very bad camera. However 1080p video is good. And motoblur ui is damn bad. It sucks. The lock screen is an asshole. I m usin go locker and go launcher to cover it up. And display too isnt that great. Colours aren't vibrant. No other major issues!

From B'lore
Atrix 2 user since 6 months best phone for the price in India hope its around 23k. Best feature phone and cheap compared to sgs2
Blur ui isn't good probably an ics update would bring more possibilities.
Default Camera is just capable of taking decent pics. Worse in low light condition.
Battery life is Ok. If you are a hard user better get an extended battery + door from Amazon so battery remains whole day.
Overall good phone and will be better once its updated to ics. It also comes with 10 ea games in India.
Go 4 it.
Its worth Ur money.

Atrix 2
In my opinion the Atrix 2 has the potential to be a great phone. I also have the Atrix 4g, which is an awesome phone and still competes with phones just now being released.
Motorola makes good phones that are durable... their software is a little lacking, but that is what this forum was created to fix right? The system ui and the camera quality are fair, to put it nicely. Once we start getting into the mods and tweaks with this phone I'm sure all of that will not be an issue.
The dual core phones are great for people that use their phone like a computer, meaning running numerous applications at once. If you just want a phone that takes pictures, makes phone calls, sends text messages, and let's you check your e-mail, then any smart phone will do whether it's dual core or not. Now if you plan to check your e-mail while you're playing a game and decide to take a picture and send it to your social networking site with an update on what you're doing, then dual core is for you.
For the money you can't beat the A2.
Thank you all for your replies... i got the Atrix 2 2day nd feeling the groove nd power of this beast... bt there was just 1 thing coming 2 my mind, maybe just out of curiosity... how can i see whether my Cpu is dual core or not... i checked out "about phone" in settings bt could nt find the words i wanted like "no. of cpu cores: 2"... smthing like that... Thank u all again...
Okay got it... the issue lies in gingerbread OS which i think does not recognize multiple cores seamlessly. Other then that, even the quadrant standard failed to identify the no. of cores when i went to the system info section in application. But i downloaded from market place and ran the CF-Bench which is specifically meant for benchmarking multi-core devices and it showed the true device information.... Atrix 2 scored well above htc sensation but was below sgs2...
Going through the kernel sources, it's blatantly obvious that they have developed a phone with these specs.
The 9500 is the ja3g and its variants are
ja3gduos_chn_ctc / GT-I959 / China Telecommunications Coorporation
ja3gduos_chn_cu / GT-I9502 / China Unicom.
That's fine and dandy, however the conspiracy theories begin with the LTE versions:
The 9505 also has an Exynos variant as named as jalte and its derivatives are
jalteskt / SHV-E300S
jaltektt / SHV-E300K
jaltelgt / SHV-E300L
jaltedcm / ???
First three for the Korean market, and the latter Japan DoCoMo.
The interessting tidbit about the last four is that they're sourced / defined as derivatives of jalte / GT-9505 which is defined as a TARGET_LOCALE_EUR device.
Now over in the Qualcomm universe of devices, we have the jf* boards:
jf_eur, jf_att, jf_can, jf_cmcc, jf_cri, jf_dcm, jf_ktt, jf_lgt, jf_skt, jf_skt, jf_spr, jf_tmo, jf_vzw.
Now it's pretty obvious that there are duplicate devices for both the bolded markets, again the European, Korean, and Japanese variants.
I'm not claiming anything here; the above may either point out that Samsung will in the future have or replace the Qualcomm devices back with Exynos devices, or it may mean that the source code is older and displays Samsung's device line-up before they switched to Qualcomm. The question is, if they'll continue to source Qualcomm devices for the markets which got them from the beginning.
In either case, it just seems that the S4 is a massive failure for Samsung in terms of a product launch, they released it too early, and due to the apparent manufacturing issues, a big clusterfuçk has emerged in the device lineup in the last minute.
I'm glad they decided to use Qualcomm. It will have a much better community support.
Releasing all devices with Exynos would be a failure IMO for those that want to customize it.

I agree with this and think that at some point in the SGS4's lifetime there will be a Octa/RF360 LTE variant.

Are you trying to make a snarky comment again?
Yes, because of that; you don't develop a product and suddenly throw away millions in investment to not use that and then decide to throw free cash at your biggest competitor for the hell of it.
The whole launch just smells of immatureness of the product that was changed in the last minute. The LCD vs AMOLED debacle is also something to consider: initial firmwares were still using the white/bright colour schemes and only as reported, new updated firmwares finally changed that back to black / dark scheme typical of AMOLEDs. This gives weight to the reports that they were almost releasing the device with an LCD screen.
They didn't mention a single word about the CPU during the official launch for a single reason: shame.

I'll give you an example of what I've seen from the business side (I'm not a programmer). There are times when the business group hasn't made final determinations about h/w while s/w coding is still preceding. The programmers will include code for multiple options and then either comment out what's not used or just leave it dormant. In the cases I've been party to the code could have been used but the fact it wasn't doesn't indicate some strategic mistake, just that of multiple options coded only one was pursued. Software decisions are usually more flexible than h/w ones.

That's fine and valid in the software universe, but not in terms of software that runs hardware (notice I'm not saying "on hardware", I literally mean it runs the hardware) one part goes hand in hand with the other, else you're programming blindly.
They actually have these devices working and developed, just not mass-produced for the public.
I'm quite impressed they've managed to make the jump to 28nm so quickly really. So it doesn't surprise me that there's not that many Exynos chips floating around and won't be for a few months.
If anyone keeps up on graphics cards, you'll know why I'm impressed -- TSMC are pretty hilarious when it comes to shipping silicone on time
And given the above subject, NVidia has been guilty of far more "soft launches" than Samsung is pulling here (eg, BARELY ANY product out in the wild for months after launch).
Whether or not you can call it a failure I guess depends on how much money Samsung will "lose" from shipping the Krait units. Would it have been better to delay the S4 4-6 months so they could ship 100% Exynos? I have no idea here, but all I know is I'm expecting the Note III in 4-6 months, not the S4...

Yes, but when it does will be later, our eyes will be looking at other devices and to first S6 rumors specs.
For those like me who want to move to S4 has to live with what we have today.
The local buzz for japan (based on regulatory filings) seems to indicate SC-04E model designation, Qualcomm hardware (a major but welcome turnaround), for Japan/Docomo.
Perhaps we'll see a later (mid-fiscal-year) introduction of an Exynos version identically specced to the korean Exynos/LTE version like they did with the S3 alpha.

^^ I doubt they will do that... And if they do probably only be out in Korea or japan because other Carriers wont bother with it, the reason why the carriers went for the 4G variant of the S3 I9305 is because the S3 didnt have 4G.
And the countries that chose the I9500 S4 dont really have a good 4G network and the ones that chose the I9505 do have a 4G network, The countries with a good 4g network did not choose the I9500 because of the fact they cant market it as being 4G and probably wont make as much sales. The real world consumer (Other then XDA) only cares for the Number 4 after the S ... And 4G is a bonus... If samsung releases another variant and markets it to the carriers as being S4 Octa + 4G, I really doubt the carriers will waste their money as the consumers will basically say "I have the S4 and it is 4G"... They wont understand what Octa is. Plus it would have to be a better Octa version than it is now because in real time usage you couldn't tell any difference with the I9505 and I9500... Only real clear difference is that the I9500 is alittle higher is some benchmarks. But who outside of the community cares about benchmarks.
1 year from now the S5 will be out I think they will concentrate on that

Past history has shown otherwise. Its EXACTLY what was done with the S3 in this market. SC-06D was almost exactly like the AT&T carrier hardware (Qualcomm) and 6 months later same carrier introduced the SC-03E Exynos model.

Like I said IF they do it I recon it would only be in japan or korea. I cannot see my country (australia) or many other countries alike taking up the exact same phone and re-advertising it as an exynos... The normal consumer wont have a clue what they are talking about..They may change stock supplies but not market it at all so if someone decides to buy an S4 in 5-6 months it will automatically be shipped as Exynos/LTE, this maybe possible if the only reason samsung went with qualcomm was low stock issues and they needed to meet stock demand by a certain date to make the S4 Launch date happen.. But again realtime performance will be the same.
On the other hand if they do decide to make an update and market it as an update you would like to think it will be more then just a cpu change or slight Over clock .. hopefully its other updates that will see a difference in real time performance because at the moment real time performance is practically identical in the current S4 variants, Exynos & Snapdragon...
...I've tried to find out how to update this bloody thing to Nougat, but to no avail whatsoever. Google has turned up nothing up to date, the folks at Samsung don't seem to know jack (but I bet they can write BOOKS about flagships & recent former flagships like the S8 line & S7 line), and the folks at Boost are even MORE clueless. (And please believe me...I am trying to be as polite as possible - an insanely difficult task given just how violently furious I am!!)
Making matters worse is that I just learned earlier that the Sprint version J3 Emerge - EXACT SAME MODEL, SM-J327P - has already gotten the Nougat update...and even THEY have no idea what Boost is doing or when they'll get the update out. (And it doesn't help that Boost doesn't have a clue, swearing that it's up to the manufacturer, while Samsung also has no clue, swearing that it's up to the carrier. LIES. Somebody has to know SOMETHING!!) For that matter, even the AT&T version (SM-J327A, renamed something stupid like Galaxy Express Prime 2 or something equally Verizon-level dumb) has Nougat STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.
So what gives!? Is there any way to upgrade this thing, or is there some sort of port of the Sprint Nougat firmware - which has to be beyond the QF4 baseband - with a Boost fix (akin to how the AT&T and T-Mobile Galaxy S7s can have the SM-G930U firmware flashed to them)? Or should I just chuck this piece of junk into a wall repeatedly and pony up precious funds for something that actually DOES get updates (and preferably with another carrier, as I'm sick of these Shanahanegans from Boost)!?

The AT&T version. Exactly my point. The European release also comes with Nougat out the box. And Sprint just got the Nougat update (unless that chick ain't know what she was talking about). So HOW is it even remotely possible that NOBODY knows anything about the Boost variant when it's the same bloody model as the Sprint one (SM-J327P)!? Like I said, LIES. There's absolutely zero chance whatsoever that absolutely NOBODY would have ZERO knowledge of when the update would drop for it. And also like I said, I bet that if it were a flagship or a recent former flagship, these clowns would know enough to write a book or ten about it.
(Edit: Nevermind about that question about your baseband)
Okay...interesting...I just looked up the AT&T version. Check this out:
Android version: 7.0
Security patch level (SPL): June 1, 2017
Baseband version: J327AUCU1AQF4
SAME security patch. Almost IDENTICAL baseband (Boost is J327PVPU1AQF4). So why the bloody deuce isn't the Boost version on Nougat!?

The AT&T version. Exactly my point. The European release also comes with Nougat out the box. And Sprint just got the Nougat update (unless that chick ain't know what she was talking about). So HOW is it even remotely possible that NOBODY knows anything about the Boost variant when it's the same bloody model as the Sprint one (SM-J327P)!? Like I said, LIES. There's absolutely zero chance whatsoever that absolutely NOBODY would have ZERO knowledge of when the update would drop for it. Not for nothing... But what do you expect out of a sub $100 device?

What would I expect...hmm...perhaps that all variants of the same device are treated equally? It makes zero sense that every variant of this thing EXCEPT the Boost Mobile one either already comes with Nougat (AT&T, Metro PCS, T-Mobile) or just recently got it (Sprint, the closest thing to Boost). And that nobody between the folks at Boost and the folks at Samsung seems to know anything is beyond impossible.
The latest person I spoke with over the phone basically said I should go to a Samsung Experience shop at Best Buy and see if they can help. Now...if the clueless peeps over the phone couldn't do anything...what made her think that some random folks at a display area within a store (that probably know even LESS) could do anything!?

There is a VERY important difference between the models that you are overlooking...
All the devices that currently have Nougat on it... Are all GSM based... Which is what most of the world uses...
Boost, sprint, Verizon, and us Cellular... Are all CDMA carriers... Which, afaik, are only available in the US... CDMA is an old outdated method of wireless transfer... And if Verizon wasn't so big... Probably wouldn't exist anymore...
So yeah... Fair treatment and all that... But for 20% of the people who might use the phone... You have to see how it isn't cost effective to develop... Especially since you are in the minority as most would just use whatever is on the device...

Good point. Except as I said, Sprint seems to have just recently gotten Nougat (unless the rep I spoke with didn't know what she was talking about). So that potentially makes one CDMA variant with it...and the Sprint variant's base model number is SM-J327P, just like the Boost one. (It does get a little different when you get into full model numbers - SM-J327PZSASPR for Sprint but SM-J327PZSABST for Boost) So if the Sprint one really has received the update, then perhaps there's some interior carrier workings that I'm unaware of (from a consumer standpoint) that would possibly prevent Nougat from even being possible at all on the Boost version. But it doesn't help that absolutely nobody at Samsung or at Boost knows anything. How do they even have these jobs when they don't know anything about the products?

You've never read Dilbert?
You've never seen how programmers talk about sales people?
Like I said... Understanding tech more than just using it... Is not normal... Most people don't mess with devices like you see people here on XDA...
Think about it from an end user perspective... What big change happened between marshmallow and nougat that would warrant the cost of bringing up a low end device?
These are paid developers...

I would assume that the "big change" between Marshmallow & Nougat would be the same that would warrant the cost of updating mid-level and especially flagship level devices. But, that's probably an irrelevant point, and I don't want to come across as trying to make an argument of it. Odds are, more end users are on mid-levels & flagships and some of them expect to have the latest & greatest software on it...at least until the next big thing comes along. In that regard, any costs of updates for higher level devices are indeed logical. My thing is that for one variant of a low-level device to be left in the cold while other variants of the exact same device either get updated or have an update immediately out of the packaging doesn't seem logical. Unless, of course, it was the proverbial "beta test" before a wider release.
I did a little more researching...the Verizon variant (SM-J327V, called the Samsung Galaxy J3 Eclipse...probably because Verizon LOVES to rename things) also has Nougat now...which makes two CDMA variants. I guess at this point, it doesn't matter; if the folks at Boost Mobile (and Samsung, with their outdated website info) have no knowledge despite any and all facts presented to them, then odds are probably high that this version of the device simply won't get updated at all.
Funny how supposedly the CDMA carriers don't get the newer updates, yet Verizon's variant came with Nougat out of the box and Sprints was updated and US Cellular's J3 (2017)[which by a simple googling...is what the Emerge is commonly refered to as with it's variants across all the carriers] has Nougat out of the box.
Now, I don't know about you...but the MVNOs of one of the carriers that supposedly doesn't have Nougat based on the bollocks that it's "CDMA" is the only one out of ALL the carriers that have this phone or its variants is ludicrous. The ODIN package for my phone is for Sprint and both of its MVNOs, which makes me wonder what the hell Boost and Virgin Mobile are doing when they should honestly get the same updates that Sprint gets.

the verizon variant J327V eclipse received 7.0 btw
I has one thing to say...
I have been doing A LOT of research about Boost's variant of the J327P the last week or so because my boyfriend softbricked his and I had to fix it, and have only seem to come up with one conclusion about Boost Mobile itself. Boost Mobile really just sucks donkey **** when it comes to support for devices. I can't think of any other way to put it. I say this because even when Sprint's variant was still running Marshmallow, Sprint released SOOO many more updates on firmware than Boost has. It's actually to the point where my brain literally hurts and I legitimately contemplated whether or not getting stung by 5 billion wasps would be a better solution than trying to figure out what the **** Boost Mobile is doing when it comes to releasing software updates for ALL of their phones. Not just this one. In fact, my head hurts so badly from trying to come up with a viable reason as to why Boost doesn't release updates as often as other phone carriers do, that I would almost rather stab myself in the eye with a corkscrew and remove it wine cork style than try to think about this any longer.
*sigh* If you manage to figure out anything new on the subject, please pm me. It'd be nice to be in touch with someone who actually understands things about this particular phone since my boyfriend seems to like it so much and makes me fix it every time it gets stuck booting. I am currently fixing it because it randomly factory reset itself and enabled the FRP lock. No joke, he unlocked the screen on his phone to google something, it said, "**** your google question," and reset itself. :crying: My only advice on this phone is to immediately find the nearest boulder and SMASH it to bits.

Would you be willing to root it and flash either a magiskSU or a SuperSU custom ROM?

It was already rooted using SuperSu. It's back to stock now, but I'd have to ask my boyfriend if he wants it rooted again cause it's his phone. If it was mine, I'd say hell yeah. Unfortunately, I have a ZTE Warp 7 (N9519) and ZTE all but vanquished any type of access to the bootloader. It's virtually nonexistent and that's not a joke by any means. So my phone is extremely hard to root. If you'd like to give it a go, just let me know because I just got my hands on a Galaxy Note 5 for free that I'm about to switch to and I don't care much for the ZTE. I actually recently won $60 on a bet between myself and a friend of mine who has rooted every phone he's ever touched that he wouldn't be able to root my Warp 7. I thought that my pockets were going to be $60 lighter but I was wrong. I can't say that I can pay you or that its even worth your time, but if you can get my ZTE rooted for the sole purpose of sticking it to the man (ZTE in this case) I'd definately love for my phone to be your guinea pig. It's better than my other plans for the device which may or may not include mailing it to ZTE in a bag filled with urine and feces. -.-

I had the ZTE warp 6, what android version is it on, your warp 7?
Hi there people,
I've searched forum a little bit, but didn't found what I need. I want to switch from G6 to Pixel 2, and I can save 200€ by getting Pixel for USA market.
My question is: Is there any difference (except charger), can I use that phone in Europe (Bosnia), network frequencies, software or something is it all the same?
LG has different versions eg. H870, H873, US997, G600 etc..
Should I pay attention to something, and is it worth it? I've red that phone is amazing, best camera, amazing speed, OS up-to-date. All positive things, is there negatives?
P.S. I've googled and it seems that there is none, anyone maybe experienced that?
Thanks guys,
I have the UK version, which is the same as the US one (AFAIK) and no differences except for the charger.
Good to see there's still people in Bosnia who know what a good phone is
