Does anyone know if, and how we could Disable IOS on Nexus 5, i.e. fix the lens? When the camera is on the Dash I get very shaky vibrating Recordings. When mounted on the windscreen it is slightly better but is still inacceptable for me.
I hav another older phone without ois and that does it very well ......

I was wondering if there is a app or someone can make the screen get bright right before you take a pic with the front camera kinda how there is a "flashlight" app for phones that dont have a led light and use the screen brightness just wondering if this would work for night time pics
searched around could not find anything on this at all so sorry if it was answered

i doubt it will work since it is facing you and not the real camera
Well what i was thinking is you take a pic of yourself with the front camera that the screen will get bright white kinda like a flash but just making it as bright white the screen can get for a second to see yourself better at night

I agree. That's very similar to my Mac desktop. The screen flashes right before it takes a self portrait. I bet an app can be created, but the issue might be auto focus. The front cam isn't all that great with auto focus so when the screen flash it might show a white blur.

On my nexus s it does not focus with the front camera justs takes the pic as is, is it suppose to autofocus? Im on nightly #31
Anyone know who we can talk to, to get something working?

Smart stay app from the GS3 is very interesting and something that we need for our beloved G Note.
Many apps from GS3 have been ported to Note like the Svoice but I have not seen any single thread where there is a mention of the Smart Stay.
Are developers working on porting the Smart Stay to Note ??
Please this is something that will surely improve our experience with the Note
I am sorry but what its all about
i thing GNote have not sensor .
I bet it makes use of the front camera, so no special sensor is required.
@deadlyheart4u it's a feature that will prevent the screen from turn off (sleep) if the system detects your eyes are busy reading something on screen. Clever huh?

Even I feel the same that is only n using the front camera. Hope someone it's able to clear doubts

It's using front camera, after timeout settings time is reached, you will see a short "blink" of the screen, and the camera sensor takes over "timeout" function.
check Engadget's review of the phone (the video).
I tried the phone myself and it is not using the frontcamera, since this would use too much battery. They have placed 2 sensors next to the camera that are using low power/battery compared to the camera.

It can't be the sensors, as those 2 are proximity sensor and light sensor.
Even on the release they said it used the camera.
it is indeed the front camera that checks ur eyes...
as i saw..it works from browser...maybe the browser has this feature?
It does use the front camera. It works in a similar way to face unlock.

Front Camera + Blink Detection !!
So now that we have how it works is someone working on porting this application to our note.

Well i am expecting smart call also, that is only gesture based, If the msg client is open and you turn you're phone straight means phone should make call.....hoping a quick apk

+1 on that
I would love smart stay on note as well
Yes... Smart stay and smart call.are both great features to have on more.

Common developers, I am sure you guys with your great knowledge will be easily ble to crack it.
Another one i miss is the pick up the phone to your ear to answer a call without touchng the screen
I was quite impressed when I saw / read about this feature. I like to read while on the go (one of the reasons why I got the might Note) and having to switch on the screen every now and then just annoys me. Hopefully somebody will be able to port it or create a replica
I don't know why but people were fast to port the tw but no one seems instated in porting the most useful feature to note.

Why port a small feature when you can just port the whole rom? Still, it doesn't seem like anyone is willing to start porting it.
Hi all! I've not received the update yet. I'd like to know if other fixes apart for camera and audio are present.. I mean yellow tinted display for example or poor battery life...Is the kernel the same of the previous release? Thanks all guys

No such thing as poor battery life. Just how you use the phone.
No idea about the yellow display, but camera and audio fixes are a good enough reason to update.
Kernel is different. Eg, can't flash 4.40 kernel on 4.41.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It also fixes the bug where if you only have the lockscreen on slide and get a missed call it unlocks the screen
I would like to hear the voice of who have the unlucky display to understand if the yellow tint is still present...do you think it's a big deal anyway?

The vibration is improved with 4.4.1. It's ""tighter." I don't know if that's how to best describe it, but you know what I mean. It felt weak originally.
The stock vibration level was 63 in 4.4. It is set to 70 in 4.4.1. You can further adjust it via an app called vibration config.

Seeing as how my moto x Dev edition just broke... (Microphone just failed)
I'm thinking about the nexus 5 again.
Only if... However they've fixed that garbage quality speaker.
Can someone shed some light?
Sent from my XT1053 using xda app-developers app
No. Same erratic build, no new 'version'.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
There was a software update for the speaker. Fixed the volume being unusually low in certain apps.
If you root the phone there are many options to increase volume and audio quality. Unrooted you can use equalizers for a small boost.
I find it loud enough to hear my ringtone in a noisy environment and clear enough to enjoy videos and music with.

I never thought the N5 speaker was garbage... better than the S3s I had in every single way.

If you are rooted then install ViPer4Android. It so dynamically changes the sound quality you will wonder what all the *****ing is about. Check for the ViPer4Android thread in the Nexus 5 themes and apps section for how to install it. In that thread is a flash file that makes things a little easier. In my opinion Google should buy ViPer4Android and make it standard. I use it on all my Android devices.

My girlfriend's HTC One Mini has much better speakers than my N5. But my screen, processor, RAM, etc. are all much better. Depends what's most important to you. You could always use headphones
Google will push new speakers through an update soon BTW read the suggestions above.
Tested audio quality with earphones and without using Google music+equalizer and I can say that audio quality is GREAT.
Honestly after reading some users complains about audio quality I excepted it worse, but like for me,a music lover,it's great. :good:
So is it possible that I got a gimped one from the first order? Way back on release week.

Some nexus 5's had really low volume on the speaker. That's why people started drilling holes in it.

Hello everyone, is there a dock that works with the Nexus 5 but sits in landscape? I see a couple third party docks that hold it up in portrait, and of coarse the magnetic wireless charging docks, but no landscape.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well nope. I seriously believe there is no such thing at this point. Pretty sad.
Its really hitting me now that I have really been looking, that there is literally no accessories beyond simple basics made for the Nexus 5. What is the deal with that? Nothing. It's pretty crazy. I see all these other devices with insane accessories for every imaginable situation and am in shock. And then go to look for the same for the Nexus 5 and sure enough. Nothing.
Seems like a popular enough phone, i don't understand.

The orb that was released with the Nexus 4 works just fine in landscape. I use it every night with my Nexus 5.
