When the m7 first came, the Auto Sleep function worked by having the sleep time after 1 minute unless you put the phone on a flat surface (like on a table) then it will sleep after 15 seconds. Now, the m8 (and m7 after latest updates) have the Auto Sleep keeping the screen on for as long as you are using/moving the phone, once you keep it without movement it will turn off after 1 minute. So if you keep the phone like me in your car in a cupholder, it will NOT go to sleep if the car is moving.
So this mod brings back the old m7 Auto Sleep function. It simply replaces the SmartDim.APK with that of the m7 that was included as a mod in a IncerCoin ROM for the m7. It is working fine on IncertCoin m8 ROM (2.1.4 & 2.1.6) so I think it would work fine for any 1.54 based rom (non-odexed).
The stock m8 returns back the stock m8 SmartDim.APK, although I highly suggest to Backup before flashing.
Works for Verizon m8? Well gonna give it a go. I hate when the screen takes so long to turn off when on a table.

@dadsterflip
I don't know if it works for the Verizon, but I wouldn't expect it to be different. Just make sure to backup first. You could also take a copy of your SmartDim.apk and put in a flashable zip so you would have your own backup to restore it in case it doesn't work because my restore zip is based on the international version.
Yea. Works great and I did also backed up my apk.

Would it be possible to have the same behavior as the M8 auto sleep, but with the 1min time out changed to a lower value? Say... 30 sec?
thanks

I don't know.
would it be possible to mod with this file after the insertcoin rom for the M7
file => Smartdim stock insertcoin m7 4.4 Sense 6
Watch out!
This does not work on the AT&T stock Android version 5.0.2. It sends the device on a rebooting loop.
Yeah, check the date of the OP and of the last reply before yours. Now take a few minutes (or hours if you're that slow) and think why it couldn't possibly work.

I have a stock Sensation 4G(T-Mo) and I was wondering when the bootloader gets unlocked and custom ROMs are made, would using one speed up/save battery life on my phone? Also would it take away Sense entirely(I'm fine with it, but i like the widgets and the weather effects, drop menu with the settings). Also can I still use WiFi caling? Thanks

There are going to be several custom roms released once we get s-off. Some of them with sense and some without. You can choose whatever suits you and if you don't like it you can just change it. That's the magic of XDA..
Thanks, that's what I thought but wasn't 100% sure on.
Ok I just switched from an HTC evo from sprint to an at&t NS and I have been flashing away trying to find a rom that fits my needs and can't seem to find the right one so I want to list my list of demands in hopes that some one can point me to the right rom.
1. Most important I want it to be rock solid stable like stock rom or as close as possible.
2. Notification power Widgets.
3. Reboot options for power button.
4. Theme manager.
I tried oxygen and like it though it is missing my #4 request which I understand was just taken out but I can't seem to find the older builds to try them. I tried nscollab which has all of the features except for the first one. So which others should I try or does any one have a download link to oxygen 2.2.2? Thanks.

1 + 2 + 3 = CM7
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = MIUI
that's my answer.
you may also can do your on modification on stock ROM
1. stock ROM is most stable
2. can be done by 3rd-party applications
3. same as point 2
4. can be done by manually modify systemui.apk and framework-res.apk
I Ment theme Chooser...the T-Mobile one that cm7 has. I don't like miui.

NSCollab latest wasn't stable for you? Because it looks like what you're looking for. Very stock look by default, CM7 theme manager support, all the goodies you're looking for... Otherwise latest CM 7.1.0 is fine too.
No it randomly reboots constantly. I want to like it but it's hard to when I am doing something and it restarts on me

NSCollab is the most stable cm7 based rom. I dont know anymore if it includes the theme chooser standard, otherwise flash it manually.
NexusMV is another option, but personally I dont like that rom.

Could it be maybe be the kernal that comes with NSCollab causing my reboots? For the most part I love the rom but the random reboots are a pain in the butt.

I have issues with Matrix's kernels too and that was the reason why I left NSCollab.
I'm using Nexus MV now with franco.kernel and so far it's the best combination I had in months.
Doesn't come with Theme Chooser by default but the first post has the flashable zip file ready for download
I've heard good things about Bugless Beast too, maybe worth checking out.

hmm i was using nscollab for a long time with almost no issues. No random reboots at all. Try giving it another try. It was my favorite rom before i switched to ics.

On NSCollab my phone wouldn't wake up about 10% of the time, which made me miss quite some alarms in the morning (this was before the Deep Idle got reinvented). Random reboots occurred maybe once a month, so that's okay. But the not waking up issue was the reason I left NSCollab.
Then I switched to NexusMV which had Trinity and that worked pretty good and stable. On his last release, Mark incorporated Matrix 9.5 and two days later my phone didn't wake up and I had a an hour later playing music. Switched to franco.kernel and not a single issue so far.
I think my phone just doesn't like your kernel All the respect to your hard work of course, many people think it's the best, but it's not for me.

I use NexusMV with Theme Choser and franco kernel its very fast 3k+ on quadrand no overclock, no random restarts or freezes yet, and has all points 1 2 3 and 4.
To get it do this:
Factory reset + wipe dalvik cache
Install -=NEXUS MV 11.01=-
Install Theme Chooser
Install Franco Kernel
then 1 more Factory Reset just in case
I use Zeam Luncher and Miren Browser
After these steps my phone works like a charm i think you would like it

Hello
i went down the path of removing my sense based ROM, and went for the Carbon ROM (jellybean 4.2.2), have tried with other ROMS (AOKP, LiquidRom) and they all seem to have the same issue.
Battery is shocking, i read here (cant post link here), that a lot of these cm10 based ROMS (i.e.non sense) have battery drain issues, i am seeing 30-40% drain overnight in standby, and the battery seems to be leaking even with normal use.
i have flashed the rohan kernel, didnt really make any difference, and have flashed the appropriate radio (Telstra)
was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience, i see some postings that suggest that other people are not really experiencing the same issues.
i dont have anything major synching (no different from when i had the sense based rom, just facebook, gmail, work email (exchange) etc), and have turned off location services (i was seeing a lot of partial wakelocks with the networklocation service (several thousand wakelocks overnight). this didnt really have any positive impact
i dont really want to go back to sense (one day i might get off of htc phones), but the battery drain is a bit of a joke.. it doesnt seem right.
I was just thinking about this. I usually lose about a percent every 5 minutes on standby and a percent a minute when using an emulator or Pandora. Tried greenify but that didn't work.

I usually keep mine plugged in at night becuase I am at 15% and need it for my alarm. However, it was a time, when I noticed it went from 80 to 60 perfect overnight. I just didn't understand. I also have greenify, but Maps keeps finding it way to me. I do notice the wakelocks are explosive as well. I have BetterBatteryStats, and still trying to figure out how to understand. I have a concept, but not enough to really see what is draining my battery. I know syncing will probably drain it. I will turn off Wifi and see what that does.
I had issues with anything based on cm10 getting some pretty bad drainage but I'm currently using slim bean on 2.14 hboot with downgraded touch fw obviously, stock kernel and I get just as good battery as I did on sense. I tend to keep wifi and data disabled when I'm not using them but I don't really seem to need to with this current set up.

Hmm, I was interested in using that. But love the fact this rom, uses less memory. Anyways, I been searching for touch firmware, and can't seem to what it acutally means. Maybe I am over looking.
As far as battery, I always keep 4G off. I used to have to keep on to get MMS and VVM. But some reason, I still get MMS without it on. And with Google Voice, I can get voicemail on wifi, or just get the email when I am on my PC
There's a sticky in this section about downgrading touchscreen firmware.

Hboot does a lot more than that my friend. Perhaps some research is in order.
Slimbean is on the first page of the original android development section but whatever..

Hello, can you point me toward info that can help upgrade my hboot (currently 1.09 on my phone)?
You just need to run the 3.18 ruu.
If you're not s-off you'll want to do that first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071
Having s-off will ensure you don't brick during the ruu process.
After you s-off, just download the appropriate ruu for tour carrier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608
Then run the ruu exe file while your phone is plugged in. Don't relock your bootloader.
Then fastboot flash TWRP 2.3.x.x
Then downgrade your touchscreen firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159863
Then you can flash whatever rom you like.

Well here to report back. At 11pm I had 60%. At 730am I wake up to 54% with WiFi off. So. It goes to say that a reason for overnight draining is WiFi.

am i going to get any value out of this?
i am already s-off?
i read somewhere that with an hboot >1.14 there might be issues flashing roms.
i have struggled to find a list of 'fixes' that an hboot upgrade would bring.

are you s-off? look into your bootloader, and and at the top in the green text, it would say "S-ON" or "S-OFF." and yes you get great value in it. it helps you make flashing easier and quicker. also, you can do a lot of things, that others may not be able to do, and cause a break. for example, lets say tomorrow google came out with 4.3, and att was quick enough to release an ota. well, you could grab the ota, and install it without bricking your device. basically you are turning off the secruity checks of the device (not like taking down a firewall or something)
my above example was just an example, and 99.999999999% that it will not happen
and to answer your other question, the reason for hboot 1.14 and higher is because you have to flash the boot.img as well. not a big deal, but can be annoying, because you need a pc to do it. so if you are like me, and love wireless tech, then it was annoying. so going s-off, and be able to download straight to my phone is awesome
sorry, not sure why i included a question mark there, but i am already s-off, hboot at 1.09
my question was more related to the value that upgrading the hboot would bring to my phone on a daily basis, will it make any difference to the phones operation?
downgrading touchscreen firmware seems a bit excessive
i am unlikely to go back to the carrier build (i am with telstra in australia), they take ages to release anything, its normally filled with bloat (and its sense based)

oh, in your case, just stay where you are at...1.09 and s-off is a good combo...
i have those OTA updates downloaded, in the zip files, there is a firmware.zip, i take it the kernel for sense based roms (which these carrier OTAs are) is not compatible with a non-sense rom i.e. Slimbean?

There are many reports of people just not being able to boot some ROMs without being on 2.14 hboot. I also found, personally that I had less general bugginess. Force closes, etc. on 2.14 hboot using AOSP 4.2 ROMs as well as current sense ROMs based on 3.17 and 3.18
You certainly don't have to upgrade your hboot, you can try flashing whatever ROMs you like, but if you notice some weird issues, updating the hboot to 2.14 has fixed a lot of that for many people, including myself.
As for downgrading the touchscreen firmware, it's a really simple process and it's only needing to be done because the source code has not yet been released for it and consequently, AOSP rom's cannot utilize the newer touchscreen firmware, leaving the touchscreen inoperable.
Do with this info what you will, it's certainly useful to know :good:
So I've had my htc one for a while now, Approx 6 months still in warranty and i love it a lot. So first i tried Android revolution 61 and then 62
i did some customizations with custom kernel and i was getting 9 hours of screen on time!! anyways went off topic for a bit, so yes i love having custom look on my device so i flashed viperone 6.1.0 and i saw that it had "Fixed swipe down to launch voice commands from lock screen" in the change log.. i saw that it also had missing motion launch controls in settings which was present in ARHD (but not working, at least it was there in the settings) so i tried flashing htc speak and still i am not able to get that feature to work.. is it like i have to do it when the screen is on? or there is some issue with my device ?
Please don't tell me that i have another issue with my phone! already its a victim of the infamous purple/pink/red/blue hue camera issue!

I'm told the kernel panic happens every time the phone goes to sleep mode. I'd say that alone means it's not daily driver ready.
I agree with you on the DD comment, but I've been longing for this for far too long! LOL One thing to note is after I installed CM last night, I set the alarm on it, and went to bed. The alarm went off fine this morning - so I think it must be something else, or related to deep sleep and another trigger at the same time.
I've installed this PA already, and did indeed have a panic right after I restored apps with Titanium. I'd also already set the force GPU setting as someone else had suggested in another thread - so that didn't help either. Of note, PA does rotate when you turn the phone sideways....CM didn't have that enabled on the 850 as of last night.

When the kernel crashes does the phone quit working or does it just reboot and fix itself? My phone is so laggy that its almost unusable, id put up with a reboot every now and then for a smoother phone, my 3 year old windows phone is smoother than this, also is this rom or CM11 better
Edit: also does data work good? My phone only gets data half the time

You have to press the volume down button to tell it to reboot, and in my experience it has a kernel crash every time the phone enters deep sleep if it isn't on charge.
Ive been running this build since about 10 last night and have only had one kernel panic, around 930 this morning. Rebooted and haven't had another issue. Running really smooth and damn did I miss themes.

Can't attest to data yet because the data is normally good here anyway. Will have to test on the way home and see about connection / LTE. That noted, unfortunately the kernel crash sits at a black screen and you have to press volume down to reboot it. It's been sitting at my desk since shortly after this thread began though, and I only saw the one crash immediately after install / reinstall of apps. Doubt it's fixed but it seems pretty good so far. Screen rotation alone makes it better than CM for the time being, just because I use it for Waze in the jeepers and it mounts sideways. LOL

Yeah, I actually have. Obviously when the screen is on it tears through battery, but I think it went down 3 percent while I was sleeping, and sometime it doesn't go down at all between me setting it down and picking it back up.
Seems like the kernel issue is across a few ROMs
I've seen in on the CM11 port and this. Any others?
