Really confused - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

so i recently flashed my i727r with rogers to work with wind mobile in my area and everything works fine expect i get 3/4 bars signal when i walk around but the second i enter my house all my bars instantly drop to 0 and never return. i've tried multiple radios and i get the same exact thing this is making absolutely no sense to me at all. anyone have an insight on why this might be happening. also i have been reading about flashing more can anyone tell me what the benifits of changing a kernel does and what it does exactly.

downgrade from VRALG2 to 1

I upgraded through odin from VRALG2 to VRALG1, just wanted to know if it's possible to downgrade back to 2 if i ever choose to and how would i do this? i am rooted and have the bootloader unlocked. thanks.
Get the lf2 file and update the same way you flashed lg1. You're just flashing radios so shouldn't affect anything else.

thank you for your quick replies. so far my s3 is fine after a day with VRALG1, no signal issues, might be improved actually, but just in case i wanted to ask.
Glad you made this thread. I was holding off updating my vrlf2 radio as well. Thanks this helped me too. Still scared to flash it though haha

so vral1 is better than 2?
I found it to be better for me but reading it sounds like depending on where you live might matter...

it is scary but as long as you can downgrade then you are okay. where i live i have solid 3g/4g coverage for miles and miles but i do notice a small difference, and i think my wifi connection is more solid as well.

What portion of the "hack" affects the reception

Rooting, ROMS, Kernels, Basebands, MODs, So many flashing options. I lost my reception at my cottage which is on an extended network roaming. As soon as I go into that area everything drops, voice and data. I Odined back to Stock unrooted did a factory reset and the service returned flawlessly.
I was on latest baseband J1 at the time, SynergyROM, MIEA backed up, bootloader unlocked.
Now I'm getting itchy fingers again. Want to go back to Synergy, etc. But I DON'T want to loose my reception while I'm at the cottage for a few days. It's my only connection to the world.
Starting from scratch again, what could've been the culprit?

There is a new baseband kernel. Its the (K1) kernel. Its in scrolsers ROMS and pretty much on every touchwiz d2vzw ROM.

^This is clean ROM 5.0! And its the ROM to have.

Baseband updates certainly do affect signal. It seems that the stock one works best for you.
The good news is you don't need to update baseband to go to a different ROM. You can keep your stock radio and flash a new jellybean leak without altering your signal.

I've also noticed that many ROMs have roaming disabled by default. Not sure if it makes a difference, but might help.

I was on synergy r73 until last night. I switched over to eclipse and now have constant 3g drops. Same radios.
I really like eclipse. I'd like to find a solution for this.

I have the same issue on Eclipse...can you clarify the process for this? I'm new to Samsung. Does this have to be done with ODIN? Which (modem?) is it you're using?

Just get the radio from here and flash in recovery I use the lj1, but just try different ones to see what works for you.

[Q] Keep new firmware but use old modem/rpm?

I have a rooted/unlocked bootloader with the stock Touchwiz ROM on my phone, and since we're all having problems with the slow LTE speeds, I was wondering if I would be able to flash the modem/radio from the MD1 or KL3 onto my phone for better signal/speeds?

You can flash them, but it may or may not break some features especially if you flash an AIO (All In One)
Thanks! I'll have to dig around here and see what I can find

This worked for me, but it took a few tries. The first couple times gps got screwed up. I ended up doing a factory reset, then odin flashed back to mb1 (unrooting) . Then I let it update, rooted again with the md3 bootchain and then flashed the mb1 firmware. Happy to say Gps lock is instant and I'm back to normal 4g sppeds
Screw you Verizon!!! Why should we have to fix something you broke!

You might also consider some of the custom TW ROMS that have all the OTA has to offer and more with better stability. Synergy, Hyperdrive and MOAR come to mind, but there are others as well in the development section.
I took the update the other day, but I flashed the previous one a few days ago.works fine

LTE on custom Roms?

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my phone and installed paranoid android 4.0 beta onto it. Everything works properly but I can't get LTE reception at all. I have tried forcing the phone to only connect to LTE through using *#*#4636#*#* and all I am getting is no service|rogers. I have tried this on other Roms(omnirom) but to no avail. Can someone explain why I am not getting LTE reception in an area I should be getting it?
Much thanks ?
BTW if it helps I live Toronto and I'm with Rogers

Most likely it is your APN settings if LTE was working on stock and you have not flashed a new radio. Unfortunately, Rogers' site has not been updated with correct APN settings for devices past 4.2 : http://www.rogers.com/web/support/wireless/android-customize/1363?setLanguage=en
Those MIGHT work, but somethings can change between updates and being in the US, I've no way to help check. I believe the main issue is the APN has to have this: ltemobile.apn
Found this for the N4, which I am assuming the APNs will be similar, if not the same: http://www.thegadgetmasters.com/2012/11/23/how-to-nexus-4-has-lte-how-to-enable-4g-lte-on-nexus-4/
Good luck.
Yup the APN was the issue thanks!

Sprint LTE

I have a new N5 and its unlocked and rooted. I get LTE just fine on the stock rom but when I flash any custom roms, LTE doesn't work. Even when I restore my backed up EFS on the custom rom, LTE still doesn't work. Anytime I nandroid back to my stock rom, LTE works fine. Any ideas or help will be appreciated.

Did you flash Sprint software? It could be the APN.
What sprint software? forgive me im new to this. I did make a backup of my apn of my stock rom and restored it when i flashed a custom rom, but it didn't make a difference.

I think there's some extra APKs you need to add to custom ROMs.
I fixed the issue. I unrooted and returned my phone back to stock. Then I found a sprint. Zip that you flash with custom roms and that worked.

Check the APN settings. On AT&T I have to tweak my settings to get LTE instead of H+.

Its a zip to flash after roms that sets the correct APN settings for sprint. I can't remember the thread I found it in though. But it was for the same issue I was having with my LTE/3g switching.

The reason I am searching through posts is this: my 3G works fine. But when it kicks over to LTE... Nothing happens... In a minute or two I may get 4 mbs or something pretty good and then nothing again. I need it to actually work. My wife has the same issue on her S4 and she is stock. It switches over to LTE.... Nothing. I have LTE off mostly. Steady slow 3g is better than no progress on LTE.
update profile
Should provide the correct settings in the custom Roms assuming the creator added the update profile features. I know cm does
