i think it has more to do with hardware than software.
your phone's speaker might have been damaged.

It's a hardware problem, ringtone is played from loud speaker(in the back) but call is attended from micro speaker(in the front)
So most probably, your micro speaker is damaged.
Hit Thanks if I helped sent from my SM-T211

Yesterday I bought a second hand N5 phone and I can't hear much when dialing other persons. The sound is too low...someone around here with same problem and maybe a fix? Thanks.
You have to be very precise with the placing of the ear speaker because it is round, it is easily covered by your ear, making it seem quiet.
Please use descriptive thread titles. If you want help, you will get more help if you change your title.

Hi,
You can try this: [MOD][GUIDE][4.4.2] Headphone, Speaker and In-call Volume Boost for the Nexus 5.
Hello,
after update to 5.0 (or after reset) is volume during call very low. Although the volume button is on 'maximum' I am not able to hear someone if I am outside. Ofc in quiet room I can hear something. Nexus 5 like this is unusable now. Thank you for reply

You need a custom recovery for this zip. I do it manually in Root Explorer.
This issue was driving me insane until I took the phone apart and used some Q-Tips with some alcohol to clean out the grill between my ear and the speaker. It didn't look dirty but after some scrubbing I noticed more light was coming through. Now, the volume is back to being below average like it was on day one!
This procedure involves taking out the motherboard (or whatever it's called on a phone) and removing the ear piece speaker. i recommend the iFixit teardown article to see how to take it apart.
If you use a headset/earbuds with an in-line mic to handle calls, I would appreciate it if you could confirm one thing for me.
During a call, do you hear your own voice (and surrounding noise) through your own headset?
I've never had a smartphone send the audio picked up by my own mic straight back to my own ears during calls. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal behavior for this device or if I have a problem.
u can try turning on microphone noise suppression... i bet its the other side using hands free where his/her mic picks up the loudspeaker and sends it back to you... did happen to me a couple of times and was fixed by the other side switching back to earpiece/headset instead of handsfree loudspeaker.. anyways if the problem still exists try upgrading/downgrading F/W .. if that didnt help simply take it back using the warranty
o and might wanna try a different headset if yours could be the culprit

Hi Mazroui, thanks for the response. I'm certain it's my own mic and not the other end. Here's how I tested - Bring up dialer, dial any number, hit call. As soon as I hit call, I can hear all the noise coming in from my own mic into my ears, no one is even on the other end of the line yet as the phone is still ringing. If I rub my finger across the in-line mic of my headset, all the rustling noise is sent right back to myself.
I wish I could say it was the other person on the other end of the line, but I'm definitely hearing the noise from my own mic during calls for some reason.
So I take it your phone doesn't do this?

wow.. definitely not... im using my dead lg g2 headset with 2 in ear plugs.. did u test with a different headset ? im guessing yours is a mono headset like my old blackberry phone 1 ear style... i remember it did that a lot.. although was very clear and loud but simply too irritating
I don't hear my own voice through the microphone on my Bower & Wilkins p5.

Yeah, I tested with 4 or 5 different headsets, all stereo. A basic Panasonic set, Apple EarPods, Bose QC20 (Android version), Bose QC25, and I even have the Sony Active Noise Cancelling earbuds which only function with the Xperia devices, and even those send the audio from the mics back into my ears.
Each of these headsets work perfectly fine in other devices I have such as Google Nexus 5, Motorola Moto X 2014, iPhone 5S, and others.

did u test if the phone was water proof XD maybe got something in the jack ? anyways with a problem like that id definitely use that warranty and save my self the hassle..
phone isn't supposed to do such a thing and with that many headsets tested u can prove it to the service center and ask for a replacement with no questions asked
Android404 - Thank you for the confirmation!

Yeah, I did a check to make sure the phone was waterproof using the service menu to test the phone pressure. It's never been in any water at all, closest it has ever been is on the bathroom sink while I'm taking a shower.
Yeah, I'm going to have to go down the warranty route I think.
wish u all the best
Thank you sir!
Just got my Honor 8 two days ago and found a critical issue about the speaker. There is a constant noise when I turn on the speaker that sounds like 'chhhhhhhhhhh'. The noise is not too loud but that's really annoying when I make a phone call with the speaker on. The person who answered my phone said it's very noisy and unacceptable.
My Honor 8 is on L14C567B162. Is it a common issue or I just got a defective one?

Yeah, you are right. I'll replace it if it's not a common issue. But could you make a test for me? Make a call to somebody with the speaker on, and then turn the speaker next to your ear. Can you hear the constant static noise?

I regularly switch between normal speaker and then on loudspeaker (speaker phone) and have no problems as you mentioned. And this is on 2 of my own devices.. I even got one of my son's to call me from one of my Honor 8 and I used the Honor earphone in the second Honor 8 to see or in this case to hear if there was any problems. Sorry to say none on my part...

there might be a damage of harware, try changing the earpiece hardware once, and if not succeeded, factory reset might help you

Well clicking on loudspeaker icon should route voice through loudspeaker .if that wasnt worked ,have u tried using a headset ?
When there is no way for voice to come out . I suggest u to buy a bluetooth headset instead of spending a lot of money on repair of both speakers
