[Q] Liquid ROM 4.4.2 - Discussion Thread - Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G

Flashed this ROM on my Relay. The ROM's pretty customizable and neatly done. Has a custom kernel which let's you tweak the CPU and GPU parameters. However my battery life hasn't been stellar by any means and since I'm using it in India, I have to check the roaming option under the Mobile Networks option. Also, adfree wasn't really doing anything at all. The host file got updated and still the ads weren't being screened. The ROM is no doubt amazing. But these are small issues that's kinda making my ROM experience not so dreamy. Any kinda help and opinion is welcome.

I've found that on 4.4 adfree has been useless in general. I've since migrated to MoAB, myself.

Yes, I've resorted to this as well. Though, sometimes there's a few slip ups. Not too sure as to what the problem is. I read in a couple of forums about the success people have had with adaway on KITKAT. Which is surprising as they do the same job of hosting the hosts file. Maybe Kitkat bypasses or maybe overrides this to get ads back on the apps. Anyway, ATM MoAB's been the most successful.

Liquid Smooth got it's new update with promising results. Hoping all the bugs are squished.

Completely forgot about AppOpps, now you can modify permissions for each app individually, trace out every wakelock and send your phone to slumber.
Would really like to thank REV3NT3CH for his contribution towards this device. You Sir, are simply awesome.

The problem is some of those apps are not free in the market. Like Newsroom is paid only. It could be replaced by pulse.

Oh if anyone have any good replacement apps for those 4 paid apps im gonna remove tonight let me know.
I will replace newsRoom with Google Reader.
No stock email??? Useless!!
No just kidding, that's pretty bomb, Samsung is making a version to compete with the itouch, props for making our phone a better copy of that I wonder if this is going to look like the stock ROM for that Android Wifi only device...
Cool I like it

Thanks for the great rom (and the free apps! )

I did say "Syndicate kanged" in this post, and I gave proper dues, main focus of this was theming and stock app replacement and removing few apks that in my opinion are not needed such as DrmUA and KeyboardSlideCount.
All the props go to Syndicate team,i would never try to take credit for something that ya created.
Thread closed due to warez in the rom. When you're ready to release a theme without warez in it, please PM me. Thank you.

G2X Rom Comparison Chart

I have started a comparison chart for the currently available ROM's for the G2X. Since we are just getting started with this device it seems like a great time.
I have made the spreadsheet editable by anyone, I encourage and would appreciate any help with keeping it current. I also do not mind any improvements you see fit, such as adding or changing columns, conditional formatting etc. I just put this together in the time I had available today and it is a rough draft. I know some of you here have much more experience in using Google docs and making something like this so do your thing! I'd like this to be a community project.
PLEASE do not intentionally falsify any information or in any way harm the integrity of this project, we all benefit from this site and there is nothing funny about ruining this for others. Also, I will make a nightly backup.
I can't seem to embed this into the post so here is a link.

Bionix has kernel .1.1 according to its changelog?
It seems you are trying to make a point or something with the voodoo lagfix?
If none of the phones have it, why would there be a column then?? The column would only be necessary if one of the roms had it. Why put it in there?
We will never have a lag-fix as we already have a great file system (ext3 and ext4) only reason that would be needed is for Samsungs ****ty rfs file system. Might as well remove it from the chart
Good comparison chart though. ^^
Edit: Oh and mine does have spare parts, boot and shutdown animation changed as well

You know what, I actually re-flashed my old vibrant for the wife to use the same day I flashed my first ROM onto this phone so I remembered hearing the lagfix lady while I was flashing a ROM on here and so I thought.. well, maybe it was a little late when I put this together. Column removed.
Once again, if there is something silly like this that you guys see please feel free to make the change, I'm not claiming ownership of this spreadsheet.

Hi tweezit! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am running your ROM now and its sexy Updated your info.
Removed the lagfix column, I guess it had just become a permanent part of my psyche.
Should I replace with a file system column (ext3 or ext4)? Or is that not important?
Also, is it safe to assume everyone is running the same base band at the moment?
Good topic
My ROM info is lacking
Stock launcher2
Included: T-mobile Theme Manager/Chooser, SpareParts, FileManager, Torch, DSP Manager, ROM Manager and WiFi Calling.
Kernel is 2.6.32.41 with latest patches, updates, OC/UV etc etc
Anyways, hope this will make the ROM less of a mystery

Thanks for the info faux! I promise its nothing personal that yours was lacking. I actually think your ROM is brilliant, and your a bit of a genius![/suckup] I'm just sticking to froyo for now.
I really appreciate you guys (devs) posting in here. I've been working long days I just wanted to get this out there even as a really rough draft so it didn't just become a bigger and bigger task I don't get around to. I
Added Gigglebread and File System column.
Thanks to everyone who has edited with more info!
This is going to sound petty, but can we add a column for HD recording support? I know the leaked build doesn't support it (that's why I went back to stock), do any of the custom ROMs support it yet that are not Froyo-based? I presume all froyo ROMs would support HD recording with the LG camera apk.

After running it for a few days, That was after I had to change my good working busybox to an older one that caused issues. I didnt see any change other then it closing apps that it had no point in closing. Android has one of the best memory management systems and its best not to mess with it a bit much. I have had a few people run it on my set up and they ran into the same issues. While I agree that is may work on some roms, it is not for every rom.

@primemonitor saw your review in the dev section. May i ask how is the rom performance-wise when using ram-intensive apps/games? I'm on rohan's cm12.1 and really tempted to flash this rom since it's aosp-based (honestly prefer aosp tbh, and really miss RRO layers supprt on XL) but a bit hesitant since it's a long process for me as i have a lot of apps and a seriously stupid intenrnet connection. TIA. ?
PS: also, why does it say here that the rom is 5.0.2? I thought it's 5.1 as per dev thread?

Sorry, I don't have any heavy games or apps installed right now I'll try NFS, but probably later, 'cuz I'm on a slow internet connection right now. However, I did check multitasking performance, and everything was running smoothly. Only time I felt some lag was when I was browsing on the internet (with many apps running in background) though I think it might have been a Chrome issue because Firefox was still pretty snappy.
Yeah, I prefer aosp roms too, which is why I shifted to this one from cm12.1. Haven't yet tried Rohan's cm build though (I'm pretty satisfied with this one for the time being), how was your experience with it?
Also, yay for RRO! Haven't yet seen it action, would love to try it out, see how it stacks against theme engine

Cm12.1 by rohan's great. I'm actually torn between his and varun's (both are my rom choices right now). I'm able to multitask decently and run heavy games (dh5 is what i'm playing right now). Did get a bsod twice a few hours after a clean flash, but i haven't experienced any since. And thanks for the reply. I'll be flashing this later today. ?
RRO is sweet. I just find it a bit more complicated to set up than cm's theme engine, but it was during its early days that i've tried it.
What is RRO?

So i flashed this rom around 8am today (it's almost 10pm here now), and i have to say i'm pleasantly surprised. I've never tried any Euphoria rom (cm or slim is usually what i run), but this rom is smooth. Handles reasonable multitasking well, no bsod or random crash of system/apps. Haven't tried calling nor heavy apps yet (no one has called me yet ?).
Only one very minor bug i've found: in settings, changing the nav buttons' dimensions doesn't work. I'm not sure if a logcat can catch that so i posted it here instead of the dev thread. If the dev wants me to get a log, please let me know, i'll be happy to (if something other than a logcat is needed, i may ask for instructions - i'm a veteran noob ?).
Really happy with this rom. Will update if any other bugs are found. great work. ?
Edit:
Thank you for including cm theme engine while we have no RRO support. ?
Rohan....can dolby digital sound mode work on Euphoria ?
if yes...then which...cm 12.1 or RR port...
Where file manager?
My review of Euphoria 5.1
I don't compare hard work of devs!
Look and feel is the best I have experienced on my phone.Really love AOSP pure Vanila android Style. Renewed material design is a good thing! Very satified with it
Performace with stock kernel without any changes is pretty decent, but running heavy games, big multitasking lags a bit( No surprises here looking at phone specs)
Booting is pretty fast. Added features really make sense( navbar dimension change doesn't work through)
Some cons: I really wanted to avoid BSODs but with no luck unsure emoticon Today while charging I got this error.
Overral the UI is pretty fast & stable. Good work, Rohan and keep up developing and updating roms

Disable logd [Speed improvement]

So last night I had to reinstall one of my H918s. I usually just debloat / customize my own ROM, but I have started using Alpha ROM by @i95swervin. Even then, I have a zip that I flash that makes some tweaks that I like, and that saves me time.
Well I was in a hurry, and didn't have quick access to my zip, so I used the phone with a "stock" Alpha ROM.
Wow .. talk about sluggish. I can see why some people have complained.
This morning I decided to try and figure out why, and noticed that logd was enabled. When you root and debloat, you get a massive amount of errors that are logged. If you run adb logcat you will see the massive stream that starts scrolling down your screen.
Unfortunately, disabling logd causes SafetyNet to fail.
For me the performance is worth it. If you don't care about it, you can disable logd by:
* Boot to TWRP
* Mount system
* Use file manager to navigate to /system/bin
* Rename logd to logd.bak
There is a "proper" way to disable it by changing init scripts, but this is by far the easiest.
If you need to pass SafetyNet, or if you need logging again, just rename it back.
-- Brian
Good tip. You may also have noticed my follow up post in the "Is it still worth buying this phone in 2018" thread. In my case, I discovered that a good part of the sluggishness I had reported was being caused by Magisk in i95swervin's ROM. Once I got rid of it, the ROM immediately started to perform so much better. Between disabling logd, removing Magisk and turning Window, Transition and Animator scales to "off", the phone finally feels premium again.
I don't experience any of this on pure stock ROM.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA Labs
@BROKEN1981 If you are talking about a stock non-rooted ROM, the logging isn't an issue. Even a stock ROM that is rooted and not debloated doesn't have the issue if you disable rctd. This becomes an issue when you start debloating a lot of crap.

Ahh ok. Only things I deleted out of system was Lookout and a few Google apps. That's probably why I never noticed anything. Also have RCTD disabled.
Right now I'm looking into deleting a few LG apps like LG bridge, switch, account and backup.
Thanks for the heads up on the logd file. I might end up having to rename like you suggested.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA Labs
The quick and dirty way to tell if you might be getting performance issues is to run adb logcat while the phone is booted into the OS.
If you are getting a few log entries every couple of seconds, or even a couple of log entries every second, then no, it isn't really going to help.
However, if you are getting pages of log entries every second (as in scrolling by so fast you can't read it), then yea, it is killing your NAND performance -- not to mention killing your NAND since they only have so many read / write cycles.
-- Brian
Anyway to do this without causing issues with SafetyNet? I have a couple of apps I like to use and google pay.
I am researching that now. It looks like older versions of Magisk will work without logd, but I don't have time to test right now.

IF it is writing a lot of logs, yes. Just disabling it if you aren't getting a stream of logs isn't going to do anything.

I totally understand. I hope you didn't think I was given ya sh*t
You may want to consider adding it as an option explaining that (for now) SafetyNet will be broken if they disable it.

i was thinking while reading the thread, if you move the file from /system/bin/ to sdcard/documents.,, that wouldn't trip safety net would it? your technically not your touching(modding) your system .. sorta speak.
Was there any progress with magisk and getting safety net working with this disabled?

I was able to seemingly get it to pass SafetyNet by replacing the logd binary with an empty file via a Magisk module. The issue is if you enable MagiskHide with logd disabled it kills performance. Because of this Magisk auto disables MagiskHide on startup if it detects logd is missing.
So it's actually possible that SafetyNet would pass even if you just delete the file normally and re enable MagiskHide, I haven't tested that, but again not recommended because of the performance issue.

Im Running RR6.1 on my H918ARB1 and it is so smooth comparaed to stock roms that going back feels like installing a beta. There is something definitely wrong with LG. I just leaved RR on it. I have a Gcam that works and the battery is surprisingly very good. There is still no wifi calling or Volte but those are compromises im willing to live with for the sake of better performace and battery life. And best of all is That I have not experienced any throttle when hot. when lineage goes official and RR follows it is better to be AOSP.

That is exactly the point, Some missing features yes, but we are talking 8.1 vs. 7.0 WITHOUT Support from lg. No thermal throttling and smoothness and speed. Heck yes I'm a fan of that.
And I surely hope you are not talking about my PR flag, because if you are a racist you should have no part in this community.

There wasn't any reference to race in my post, my phone is super fast and smooth on stock as well and all the v20 features work flawlessly where as on Los stuff doesn't work and you have to jump through hoops, dl additional apps to get basic functionality. But I digress this isn't a los thread, and your post was off topic to begin with.

Can you even list the differences between 7.0 and 8.0? To my knowledge there is really nothing different.
