So my friend sent in her s4 for repairs and Samsung sent her a galaxy nexus. She dropped it this morning and the screen cracked. Since its a temporary phone, what is the procedure for this? Does anyone have any experience

You might get some answers in a Samsung forum. Hopefully their insurance will cover it.

For starters, that girl needs to keep a case on all her phones if she's just breaking them left and right. lol. But the insurance thing is something I doubt anyone here will be able to answer. She needs to talk with Samsung

I think their expectation is going to be that they get the temporary phone back in the same condition as it was when they sent it. So your friend is going to be liable for some damages.

You can't really say that without knowing the conditions she probably signed when getting the phone. Samsung might as well have insurance covering such cases.

I worked in wireless for 3 years. I can tell you that she will have to pay for the damages. That's why most companies don't do loaners anymore. When she got the temporary, she agreed to return the phone is the same condition as received.

Would Samsung care if she replaces the screen? I'm guessing that's cheaper than whatever Samsung would charge
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
The screen has a digitizer that would take not only technical know how to replace, but is very pricey. It's your call though. Might cost you more in the end if you try and fail at doing it.

So I've had my nexus s for like 3 months and the glass just mysteriously cracked. Wtf. And the asurion insurance wants me to pay 130 for them to replace it with a vibrant, not even a 4g a goddamn 3g vibrant. Wtf!
How is that even possible not the same phone
You have to be leaving something out
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA Premium App
Nope not leaving anything out, because T-Mobile doesn't actually carry this phone the 8 bucks a month I spend on insurance can't replace this particular device. Just screwed unless I buy the touch screen digitizer glass assembly and fix it my self, which is what Iam going to do.
Wonder if you would be able to keep the busted nexus s with the claim, and get the other phone? I would fix the NS, then flip the other for cash.
Just a thought........

i don't know from experience, but i've been told that with sprint's asurion claims, many times they don't even ask for the original device back.
maybe tmo's policy is the same? and technically this wouldn't be fraud either.
The ESN becomes blacklisted so it doesn't become much more than a glorified media player.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
thats what i thought too, but there are reports that sprint hasn't been blacklisting them. nonetheless, his is a gsm phone, so he wouldn't have to worry about that.
Yea they told me i would be billed like 30 bucks if i didnt return it, sooo... that might not be a bad plan. Thanks for the idea
WIN!
Usually that company will reimburse you for the cost of buying a new Nexus S, less the deductible. All you should have to do is send them the receipt. Call them and ask..that's what a lot of Nexus One owners had to do.

Hey everyone,
The lock button on my Nexus S 4g seems broken. It only registers after you press the button multiple times. This randomly started happening (ie: no bumps or drops prior to the issue starting). The button is doing the same when I boot into recovery, which leads me to believe it isn't a software/ROM issue.
That being said, I only have the $5 insurance from Sprint, not the $7 one, which only covers accidental damage, water damage, or theft. What should I do to get it fixed, short of buying a new phone?

It should be 1 year, just be sure to revert to stock and lock bootloader
You could also replace the button but that will void warranty and probably insurance as well

Contact Sprint to be sure ... And I would just replace mine myself if I were you ..
I did contact them and they said it wasn't covered under the $5 plan.
How hard would it be to replace it myself?

When you call into AT&T ask for the number to the warranty department. They will ask you a few questions to determine if that's the right department you are looking for. Just say you charged your phone and it no longer turns on. Eventually after lying a bit more you will have a replacement device on its way to you. Works for me all the time and have never failed yet.
They say all kind of things to scare you out of it, but nothing ever happens. I don't know if it is just my luck. I warranty at least 3 times for the year just to keep my phone looking brand new and I send it in working perfectly fine.

Lol thanks rapstar I can definitely give it a shot. Here my thing jyazzie that your correct they don't warranty hardware breaking so by my son dropping the phone voided the warranty. But here my thing I have had other providers and they always warrantied at least one accidental replacement and for 199 I could just go and buy something else like a galaxy note. But seriously 199 for a phone that is on the do not sell list lol. Thank you all for the help and feed back. But I'll see if my work will let me get one temporarily.

I'd try to brick it through Kies, tbqh. Can be done without the screen on if you restore to 2.3 in ODIN. It's a risk that they see the digitizer and have a "WTF" moment, but you stand a good chance of getting away with saying, "I did the upgrade through Kies and now it doesn't work."

Indeed. I actually had Samsung replace my screen when I broke the glass a few months ago. They charged me 158 and they covered shipping both ways. I had the phone back in 8 days. Since they did the work it is still under warranty if anything else should go wrong. It was actually cheaper than any of the glass/digitizer units I could find online.

I think that depends on you. Can you live with the crack? Does it bother you? Only you can decide.
A new 32 GB Nexus 5 is $400, so you have to ask yourself is the crack worth saving $150.

It is not a good deal. LG charges about $150 to fix the screen such as this, leaving you with the exact same cost as buying a new one yourself.
Cracks in the screen can only get worse over time. I would maybe pay $150 for it if I was prepared to fix the screen myself for around $125.

As someone said, you do have to keep in mind that the crack can get worst if you drop the phone hard enough. If you baby your phone and don't mind the annoyance of the hairline crack then I'd say do it for $200 cash and not $250. To me $200 cash is a good price.

It might but usually very delicate with applying. It's all based on you and how you apply. But yes, more pressure might hurt.

It should be just the screen because I replaced it with an eBay one but the screen wasn't a original. It kinda work with the eBay one but it didn't. I sent it back and I'm guessing it was the screen. Everything in it is not damage and I live is the united States by the way.
