i am coming from an atrix 4g
yesterday my atrix 2 arrived.
now i have an atrix 2 and atrix hd
i dont know if the problem is only with my atrix 2
in the atrix 4g i could acess the internal memory and save pictures/sounds etc and i had some partition to install apps.
so the atrix 4g had 2 partitions one partition destinated to system/app installation and another to the user use with videos/photos/music/whatever.
a great deception that i am having with atrix 2 is that motorola god knows why deleted the partition destinated to the user save photos/videos/etc
of the 8gb that come in atrix only 4gb is usable and only for apps!
maybe the webtop consumes a lot of space.
continuing
i do not want be dependent of my memory card. i dont know what happend but the atrix 2 just have one partition and only destinated to install apps with size of 4,333gb,with no internal partition that i can use to store images/music/videos/etc
i was thinking in two things to solve my problem(have the internal partition to store stuff ):
1- i've heard that exists some roms like miui that enable the partition for user store photos/videos/etc but i dont want lost the webtop functionality and the atrix i have is actually locked to AT&T,i dont know if i can change the rom .
2- android is linux and therefore run the kernel linux. i am an ubuntu user and as far as i know the case of my problem is just create and indicate to the system the "/home" partition and reduce the size of the "/" partition
like this tread for an LG
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737 (see option "9-Create your own custom-sized partition table to flash with option 4")
i am scared ,it is the first smartphone in my life that do not have internal memory for the user.i dont know if the person that sold it to me did something wrong ,if it is only with my atrix 2
do you all guys have some sugestions? i am only 4 days with this phone ,so asking for help is a good idea, you guys have more days of use than i.
before i forget
i saw people talking about leak 1,leak 2 ,final ics
how can i determine my att ics version ?
(information:system version is 67.21.125.mb865.ATT.en.us,kernel 3.0.8-g41)
to solve my problem and have internal memory as usual ,do i have to change the rom? can i do it with an locked at&t atrix 2?which rom can i use without lost functionalities?
thanks in advance for the help.
The indian and i think the chinese version of the Rom's support internal memory read and write for regular use.....
If you have AT&T version u cant really do much you could try a couple of workarounds but it really isn't viable for regular use....
so until i unlock my atrix 2 i cant change the rom?
ok ,i've found a site that does the unlock in 3 days.
after the unlock ,i have to change the firmware/bootloader to change the AT&T rom to indian/chinese rom?
what consists these workarounds?

The Infuse's internal is partitioned in 2. The first half is seen as full on internal, the second half is considered to be an sd card, an internal sd card. And no, there is no way to format it.

what do you mean format? i mean you can format it by factory resettign the phone through settings but that formats the data partition as well and loses all your data. you may be able to format it in windows but none of this will change the size of anything. you cant change the partition tables, well technically you can but don't you will brick your phone! and sinse 2gb is on a different device all together you cant change that at all either.
you seem a bit confused on how this all works. the 1.77 or 2 gb is phone storage, it is used for apps, contacts, message storage, phone related stuff. the 13.1 or 14 is sd storage built into the phone, the aditional 2 is external sd storage (it's under the sim card, remove the battery to get to it. you can expand it up to 32 +the 14 built into the phone). the numbers below advertiesed are just different ways of measuring gigabytes. the definition of giga is 1billion but in conputing they use powers of 2 tradidionally so killo isn't 1000 it's 1024 mega isn't 1million its 1,048,576. mega and kilo pretty much aloways are interperated that way in computing. giga/tera however sometimes use there literal meanings 1billion/1trillion and sometimes mean 1000/1,000,000 megabytes and might also mean 1024/1,048,576 megabytes which would be 1,073,741,824-bytes for gigabytes, if you look at packaging of new hard drives there is often a disclaimer on the method they are using to advertise the capacity. i dont remember which way windows reads gbs but this is one reason hard drives never report the same space as advertised and why you see 13.1 instead of 14 and part of why you see 1.77 (some of it is used for the /system and other partitions) instead of 2.
And that's why you are one of the best there is DANi...I learn from listening to your thorough answers and explanations...very nice..

that's weird. did you install a whole bunch of app? or things like ringtones ect?
1.77gb is alot for a phone and i never filled up the storage. unless it is the market bug where apps above a certain size never download. if that's the case you need to downgrade the market. if the phone did not come with the new market you can go into settings>applications>all and find the market/vending.apk then you can uninstall updates. if you would like to install a custom rom then gtg465x had a fix for this in a custom market .apk with his roms, and entropy and linux bozo have a kernel fix in their gingerbread kernels so the new market will download apps of any size.
if you infact filled the storage then you can move apps to the sd card in settings>applications>downloaded but keep aftermarket launchers and applications with widgets on the phone storage. the reasaon is that the sd card doesnt mount till after the ui starts and apps on the sd card will disapear from the home screen, if the launcher is on the sd card it will default to the touchwiz launcher. you can also do this in bulk with titanium backup.
Hi
hi yeah it tells me i have 1.7 gb free and i get a message from the mark. i try to download i all the angry birds games at the same time and the first one was able to install fine and then i get that message from the market . i had to move that game to the sd before installing the rest i just installed this ROM MIUI - and when i had the stock ROM i never had this problem - i really like this ROM ... i only have like 5 apps installed and i have moved most of them to the SD - Facebook wont move and A.I Type wont move to the SD the rest are on the Sd -
i read some where on the web where i could go in terminal type a code and have all the apps that i download go there directly to the in.. sd card - im not sure if this is possible that's why im asking @
That no space warning is a bug in Market, go to settings>market and uninstall updates.
Things should download then, search Market fix.
Or just reboot...it will fix it also...done it many times

the newwest miui "should" have a kernel end fix. i mean the aosp kernel was developed by linux bozo and he put out a market fix on the hellraiser kernel but i dont keep up with the aosp roms.
if the kernel isn't part of the latest miui you may want to try the cm7 kernel, it is possible that because jordan elliot is having family things going on that are more important that he hasnt updated the kernel since the fix was released.
anyway it doesnt matter where you put the apps the low space message is an error. it has little to do with the space available.
when you have questions like this it helps on occasion to provide the carrier the phone is for(rogers/att), the rom or kernel you may have installed and if it is stock provide the baseband and maybe even what network you are on if it is not the one that the phone was released for. there may be known issues or differences that affect the answer and it is more productive if you can avoid having questions answered with questions or really broad answers.
Hi thanks for your help man like I said im new to this .. i was getting a msg from the market saying that because I think the market has a 30 mb download limited ... everything is working from know.. next time ill try to read more before I post lol ..

hi,
I'm using atrix 2 4 last 6 months, mi fone hav asian retail ics ota version updated frm motorola
recently I hav purchased rom toolbox pro. mi fone s rooted. in rom toolbox under -> app manager -> all appa -> system storage it shows 432 used and 45mb free. wy s it so. actually it hav 3.5gb somthing free internal storage free. I'm using 32gb trancend memory cars.
Because the system/app folder have a specific space. It doesn't matter the free or used space of the other folders.
Also, be careful with using ROM toolbox. It has been known to turn phones into bricks quickly. It kinda quirky with the A2.

That's 4 gb of internal memory u r talking about. The space given for system apps is only 500mb. That's y u have only 45mb left.!

Yes this is true.
How the storage is laid out on the AT&T phone is as such:
/system (this is where all of the files for any ROM go, /system/app, is where all the apps that come with a ROM are located), is 500MB and in stock ROMs that are odexed you only have 45-50MB left, and no you can not do anything about this. You can run an opensource ROM like CM10 or MM, and get a lot of that /system space back, but I am still not sure why this matters since /system is locked and really NOT usable. You can also deodex your own stock ROM, or use one that is already deodexed to gain some space as well, but again this is really not usable for a normal user, who is not creating their own ROMs or performing "hacks"
/data is 3.89GB and this is the "internal" 4GB that motorola advertises... now again this is really not all that usable, all you can do is install apps from the play store here, you can not use this space to store photos, or even music or videos.
So in short having 4GB in this phone is a bunch of B.S. marketing, since you will never be able to use it for anything useful.
Oh and the TW/HK versions of firmware with ICS have changed how much of the 4GB storage is actually usable.
P.S. these comments are not aimed at any one person in general, just more for everyone's information, so lifehacker7 I was really not replying to you, just commenting that what you posted was 100% correct, and I just wanted to elaborate on that.
Oh and I second what was said by Fall of Enosis about Rom toolbox. ROM toolbox does not play nice with this phone and really neither does TI BU, so be warned as both of these can soft brick you in a hurry.
As u said, since I'm using CM10, I have almost 100mb space left in /system. I barely had 10mb on stock Rom.
Does anyone know how to swap the internal to the sdcard or sdcard 1 for the Photon Q? it's really stupid that I have a 16 gb sdcard and everything is saving to 4 gb I keep ruing out of room. I tried other kernals and other things and that bricked my phone and I just brought it back to life so I was wondering if there is something to help me have more room so I don't try to brick my phone again. I'm really thinking about getting rid of if there is no way to save to my sd card I'm running CM10.1 CDMA version. Also the dumb bootloader unlocked warning won't go away I tried flashing a img file but it will never flash it always fail and I was wondering how to make that go away?:crying: HELP PLEASE
Here's a few options on what you can do to hack the internal SD vs external.
There's no "good" way to fix it unfortunately, that I have found yet. Good luck.

Also, I haven't tried it (the warning is kinda funny IMO), but this thread addresses the boot logo issue.
Please search before you post. Thanks!

Thank you I tried the img file flashing through ADB but it never flashes so Idk if I can ever get rid of that warning. I don't think I'm doing direct bind app thing right it doesn't work for me still trying though
If you use stock JB,I can guide you to mod build.prop and vold.fstab so that your sdcard can be primary storage and your internal which is 4GB can be storage for installed apps. I've tested it on my Photon Q with stock JB. It doesn't work on CM10.1 coz different storage structure. But,you can try flashable zip by younggun in Atrix HD thread. It works on Atrix HD CM10.1 based ROM.

Hello everybody, I come from the Xperia arc forums, been on xda for a few months now and to be honest im still kind of a noob even if i learned a little bit about ADB and rom/kernel/mod installing.
A good friend of mine recently decided to switch from an iPhone 4s to a GS2+ but has no clue about root roms ect so he asked me to tweak up his phone and i want to show him the full android potential on samsung's great hardware (without bricking anything hopefully)
I know the "what's the best" discussions are not allowed but since my friend will pass me the phone for no more than a day i dont have all the time to test every rom out there so i want some advice on the following:
What are the most stable and successful roms for GS2+? What great features do they have?
What are the most successfull and most of all SAFE kernel for GS2+?
Are GS2 roms compatible on GS2+?
I was planning on partitioning the internal memory and add a 512mb swap partition, i wanna avoid swapping sdcard cause of lower speeds and sd lifetime issues. is it reccomended to swap internal memory?
is there anything in particular about this model that i should keep in mind to avoid bricking this phone?
are most of the internal partitions EXT4 or do i need to convert them in order to increase performance?
Any other advices? i've already flashed with a Note and a Galaxy ACEi but im new to this phone.
Any quick help would be greatly appreciated, he's gonna gimme his phone in a couple of days...

You can check here. Babba ROM and Pandamonium ROM are recommended if you want something stable though not as perfect. I haven't try out Babba ROM and I can't make a comparison. Do check them out.

I have not tested the kernels, but you can check here and see the review.

No.

I guess no, I rooted and installed custom ROM by following the guidelines and everything is ok.

Best stable ROM is latest official with k2wl kernel (and don't forget to remove unnecessary apks)

k2wl

Absolutely NO

Forget this old method dude. 4Gb of internal space is more than you need for your apks

This model is a rock. the only method for bricked it is... i don't know any method (with odin you can always survive you phone)

New to android and rooted my phone first time through this forum's guide. I wanted to install apps on SD so as App to Mgr failed I went ahead with Link 2 SD and partitioned my SD card. But i created a partition system of EXT2. Does that matter?
Hey all, let me just start by saying that I have searched, read, tried so much already, with so much information (specially from here) to apply a swap partition to increase ram on my phone.
Ill start from the beggining..
Phone rooted, I tried ram expander app, was a bit dissapointed because of the constant internet connection needed and the fact that after some time, my notification for ram expander (saying total memory:2048 for example) would dissapear and eventually my game crash. Maybe the swap file stopped working for some reason. Doesnt matter..
Now I am trying to set a swap partition on the phone and as far as I have been able to, this has been the only method that I have already noticed some difference.
So i started with this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934360
And up to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422061
And this last one is where I am currently at..
I have, once again, rooted phone, busybox installed, root explorer installed, terminal emulator installed.^
I have partitioned my micro sd card, that is class 10 HC1 45mb/s (Kingston) with a normal primary partition, fat32 (just like on the links, leaving space basically for 2048mb for swap partition) I created a second Linux swap partition with the leftover space (2048mb).
I havent understand fully if 2gb swap partition is too much or if I can just have 1gb (which is shame cause ram expander could go for 4gb, if it wasnt strangely working on my phone...)
Im currently stuck on step 2 of the second link..
I have the install-recovery.sh file, which everytime I try to add the code, it saves but when reopening it shows as if I didnt add no lines..
Now the rest parts I dont know what to do, besides not showing the lines added I dont know what is rebooting to recovery, I dont know what is flashing a file (in this case, init.d-autorunner-stock.zip, which I already copied to my sd) and the rest.
Basically I wanted to know if 2048mb swap partition is possible and how to get there.
I never added a custom ROM, its factory settings about ROM, but my phone does support swap. I will provide an image about this.
http://postimg.org/image/sydbst8yv/
Supposedly I only have 185mb at my disposal from swap partition? Im sure im wrong, maybe...
Please, I hope this post is acceptable and obeys the norms of this forum, like I said before I have been reading and trying so much for some days, maybe already 2 weeks now. I made this post as a last resort.
My sincere thanks ahead for everyone, maybe this can help other people aswell.
