[Q] Settings lost after reboot - HTC One S

Hey Guys,
I have a small problem with my HTC one s S4. I'm currently on viper 3.1.2 and everytime after I reboot some systems settings are gone. When I change my DPI for example nothing happens after a reboot(it stays on the same 240). I can't use a adblock(since it has to reboot) or change my boot animation. I can change the settings successfully but after a reboot the settings are back to stock
I'm thinking that the problem it's that I'm s-on. My hboot is 2.15
It's there anyone with a solution?
Thanks in advance

Thats not caused by S-ON Have you manually changed any read/write permission or installed another kernel or any "..." scripts? Wiped cache/dalvik btw?

Thanks for your quick response. I didn't change any write permissions or something like that. I haven't done any wiping and the image shows my kernel

Have you checked if your sdcard is working And superuser is installed properly ?

The Rom is working completely fine. Apps for example stay installed. The problem occurs when I change a system setting. I can change the bootanimation.zip and change the permission, but after a reboot it's back to stock, even though I deleted the stock. Same happens when I change the dpi.

The only case I can remember something like that is when superuser wasn't working properly. If only file related operations on /system partition get reverted you should try SuperSU flashing via RECOVERY and check the R/W permissions anf if the kernel may be does not feature mounting /system as R/W. Also try another filemanager please. I prefer using Total Commander

I tried the Sipersu and out didn't work. Also tried another file manager but that didn't work either. So I think it might be the kernel. I tried to enable mount system rw on venom tweaks, but (as you can expect) that was reversed after a reboot

Viper changelog:
"ViperOne S 3.1.0
Fixed Gallery FC when trying to view images from MMS and other sources
Fixed statusbar icons for T-Mobile users
Fixed wrong color being applied when using overscroll tweak
Fixed image artifacting on some overscroll colors
Removed /system RW protection for S-On users (thanks to @flar2, S-On users will need to manually flash their appropriate boot.img found in /sdcard/downloads/ViperOneS_3.0.1_3.1.0.zip)
Removed Disable logcat tweak (caused GAPPS FC)"

I don't want to sound like a noob or something, but I already flashed boot.img when I flashed the Rom in the beginning. Do I have to flash it again just once or everytime I change a system settings?

I did not say you did anything wrong or be a noob. I just read the changelog and for me it seems as from version 3.10+ you should be able to R/W system.
But may be you just ask in the rom thread?

Before I forget to mention, the problem occurs on other ROMS as well, but I'm gonna ask my question in the Viper section. Thanks in advance!

Have you just tried stock based roms? Or e.g. CM11 too. If its on all roms you should go back to stock once using the matching RUU. Keep in mind to change CID to original before run the RUU.

It will flash...but don't expect video (and whatever else it breaks) to work...
It is based off of the latest AT&T leak so it has to have the stock kernel for everything to work.
Yes any Infuse modem will work.
Fonts
Are there any fonts or themes for this rom? I was under the impression it was based on MIUI, and could therefore be customized. the only MIUI element I see is the lockscreen manager. Am i missing something?
Its a work in progress, give it time, Nop seems to have a lot in store for his new Rom!

After flashing, Superuser is disappeared from App drawer and become "unrooted" but superuser is already installed as reported by Market.
Uninstall and reinstalling, no problem but still now shown in App Drawer and reported "unrooted" whenever useing apps which need root access..
Tried re-root with SOC, stuck with the messeage "waiting for device" and would not be continued..
Any idea ??

Odin/heimdall flash a custom kernel. then download the su updater for cwm I think the link is in the open of caty rom or something. reflash the rom (sometimes su gets corrupt and causes all sorts of issues, best to format /system and reinstall the rom for good measure) and flash the su updater immediately after. make sure you do this before a reboot and that voodoo is disabled on your phone. there should be a folder on the root of the SD card named "Voodoo" the V is capital and in that rider should be a text file or folder named "disable-lagfix" if this is not there before you flash the voodoo/cwm enabled kernel and lagfix gets enabled you must disable it and reboot before you flash the rom.
this leak is really secure, you need the custom "insecure" kernel to root it and there seems to be an issue with the build of bionix causing people problems. read the thread but don't get too confused on all the different advice.
also if you can use heimdall I posted a heimdall flashable dump from my phone in the bionic thread. it already has updated superuser and su.

no Voodoo exists but the disable-lagfix file/folder doesn't. it is usually a file but if you create it as a folder it works.
if you have no Voodoo folder you should create it as well as the disable-lagfix to speed up the process and avoid issues. or you can install bionix from my heimdall package. your choice.
I cant tell fron the screenshots....does this rom have the lockscreen that allows you to choose unlock, phone, sms, or camera?

I may need some help from someone. Here's the issue I have been experiencing with the rom. After awhile of just normal usage, performance begins to deteriorate. The symptoms can easily be described as lag. After a reboot, I return to square 1 with speed and response. Has this been happening to anyone else?

I notice quite a bit of lag after trying the included adfree apk.
You can try uninstalling adfree from tibu
If that doesn't work, you may have to try to figure out how to fix permission, wipe dalvik and wipe cache.

Monitoring today during a normal day. The removal of adfree appears to have taken care of the lag issue. Thanks again man! Running wonderfully and sitting at 92 pct battery after 4.5 hours off of the charger.

I just installed this rom ontop of the old V2 bionix iv been running for months, figured it was about time I upgraded lol. Iv been playing with it a bit, and am getting used to the new layout. Maybe this is intentional but where did the battery info and pulldown task bar ontop go? Also some things seem to be not fitted to the screen correctly, like my contacts list and the lock screen is cutoff 3/4 way thru the clock on bottom. Ill keep playing with the settings when I wakeup I just wanted to check I didnt miss something or install it wrong, like a lingering file between the 2 versions caused an incompatibility. Other then that its pretty sexy sofar

Fix permissions

I recently noticed by using busy box there is an option to run a script to fix permissions. My question is can we use this feature to fix perm rather than rebooting to recovery, ie does this give the same results or is it recommended to use recovery just like when you do factory data reset.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
Almost always better practice to do things to the system when in single-user mode, or as close to it as you can get. Bad things can happen when you change the system under processes that are running at the time.
Does it accomplish the same result though
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
You'd have to read the script you found and compare it to the one in your recovery. Even from recovery version to recovery version, the script can do slightly different things.
Adding to what jeff wrote, this rule is also good when messing with system apps and most importantly with framework-res. For these cases I run the Aroma file manager zip from the recovery, copy and replace what I need, fix permissions and reboot (without active processes noise)

Even if you ran fix permissions (from any script), you'd still have to reboot.

My phone was frozen?!?

My HTC VilleC2 was unlocked bootloader, using rom cook JB 4.1 and has flashed SuperSU.zip. But when I use Titanium Backup to uninstall a few apps aren't used in the system such as Google+, Stock, FriendStream, ... it's ok, but when I restarting the phone everything returns to original, the apps wasn't uninstall. But some apps I don't uninstall that only Freeze then when I reboot the phone, it's fine, it's still frozen. I also use Root Explorer to delete some audio files in Notification, Ringtone, Alarm directories... but when I rebooting the phone, everything back to original. Does anyone know what that is the cause? Pls help!!!
P/s: Sorry for my bad english
i remember some talk of deletions not taking, forget where and why. maybe google/search
we have plenty of system memory, just reflash rom with full wipe to include system and don't delete anything
try to uninstall titanium and reinstall, get paid version

No its not just the apk thats needed for it to work the Lgmms apk needs lgTelephony for mms sms etc thats why you cannot use the one from SU760 iCS thats why i added it to be deleted in updater script along with messages apk as it will fc and services.jar is modded to disable apk uid signatures needed in order for package manager to allow apk to run now you can pretty much pull apks from any other device without worrying aboud uid mismatch error
Now i understand why there is the message's bug...because despite the apk the lgTelephony for mms sms is from SU760...however thanks for your great work! Now i can't test this new fix...however i will!

Locate LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk in /system/app and delete it
Locate Messages.apk also in /system/app
Copy the apk's from ZIp
Reboot to Recovery i use CWM dunno about TWRP
Then in CWM mount system
then
adb shell
# rm /system/framework/services.jar
in another cmd prompt
adb push services /system/framework/
back to shell # chmod 644 /system/framework/services.jar
if you wipe data it work with no FC now the thing is the Old Messages apk left some .db database file which causes it have SQL errors hence the FC cant remember the exact path as i Just cleared the data just post Logcat so we can track down that db file and delete it.

It is in data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db you need to delete it.
Optimus G is also working. It is very nice. Has themes And popup. I used telephonyprovider.apk from optimus 4x and G mms.apk
I can upload here so you can add it to first post.
So what you need to do is as defcomg said before:
Download zip, extract apks an copy them to /system/app/ before that backup and delete original message.apk and LGTelephonyKrOemProvider.apk. Set permissions to rw-r-r then clear data for LGMmms3.apk from /settings/app setings. Then go to data/data/com.android.provider.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and delete it.
Reboot.

Stuck in a boot loop after changing app permissions

I posted this in the Nexus 7 section, but this can apply to all AOKP based ROMs that have the "Permissions Manager" option.
Running SmoothROM with 4.2.2 (I think) and I was messing with the "Permissions Manager" settings under "Settings". I turned off several permissions on Facebook, such as SMS view/sender and location on it as well on some other apps. I then rebooted the tablet and now I'm stuck on a boot loop. I don't get how because these aren't system apps, so I don't think it should affect the system booting up at all. Sadly I didn't make a nandroid backup before doing this, since I thought the worse that could happen would be the apps force closing which is easily fixed. Since I didn't make a backup I rather try things that wouldn't make me lose any data.
I can get into recovery (TWRP) and have already made a backup of the current boot looping state. I have already tried deleting cache and dalvik-cache and still won't boot.
I have an idea: Turning the "Permission Management" setting to "Off" would make the apps have their default permissions. I would have to get into /data/data/com.Android.Settings and find the "Permissions Management" setting and set it to "false" or "off" through ADB. So I would have to pull the file and push the edited file back through fast boot or recovery. Anyone think this would work??
FWIW: I updated the kernel (Franco) with his franco.Kernel app 1 reboot ago, but it rebooted fine, not sure if it could be the kernel that has me in this bootloop?

I'm not talking about .apk or file permissions. I'm talking about permissions apps request, such as location, internet access, billing, reading contacts, etc. That's something the "Fix permissions" option in recovery mode has nothing to do with.
