Ditto, Had a g2x and traded it (had no issues except for minimal screen bleed. I still have another one but it's at LG for repair rma due to excessive screen bleeding) Really am loving the sensation. The G2X is faster for sure, but we shall see which is faster once we get S-off and root and a vanilla android rom Once I get my G2X back from LG I think I will switch between the 2 for a few days then the g2x will probably become my business line phone. I'm on flex pay and here is the strange thing.. with my g2x it let me forward my VM to google voice, with the sensation it doesnt. I read that flex pay customers are barred from using conditional forwarding so not sure how it worked on my g2x and not on my sensation.. smh

Hmmm i know there are issues and wondering what are good fixes off the bat. Like the browser speed trick (got that, but others)? Thanks
If you happen to get that weird black box on the lock screen, place your finger where the circle would normally be and flick up. It'll unlock the phone without a battery pull (don't know if you saw my topic on that on moco).

No i did not, thanks though. Ill remember that.. loving it so far ....
I am on my third Sensation and so far this one has been quite good. I have a G2x which I really like as well and also a Vibrant (that I thought I would always keep) and if the Sensation continues to perform flawlessly I will sell my Vibrant. There is just something about the Sensation, I really do not know what it is, but even though the G2x is faster at this point and seems smoother to me, I just keep picking up the Sensation. I hope that s off comes very quickly so we can see what this phone is really like!!!!!!!!!!!
+1
Please include me in the list..
I dont have G2X, BUT I use to have O2X which I think is similar phone, with some dimension different and signal processes only. Anyway, I ditch my O2X due to its poor design body, and its crap software UI..I'm not deny, O2X is faster compare to sensation, but I could not stand it when I hold in my hand and play with its UI...Grrrrrrr!!!!!!
+1 also dont like its bleed display!!
Love sensation!!
Hey smash, I remember you from the Vibrant forum so welcome to The new Sensation

Smash welcome to the dark side lol. And to answer your question, no I'm not having any issues loading large sites. I tried engadget (full site), cnn, and a couple others and it loads fine on or off wifi.
I'm going to jump on this thread instead of making a new one... Just returned a family member's G2x for it being the most buggy production phone I have ever seen, shame lg.
Anyway, looking at the sensation as a replacement, anything a huge issue? The g2x had such a software rebooting problem it was absolutely unusable. Just want to make sure software and hardware are working fine for most people...

Just a friendly little anecdote for you. Do with it what you will...
I worked tech support in a call center for a large mobile provider and was terminated for posting on forums after they managed to link me to some posts I had made. They did this by monitoring network traffic in the building, which lead them to my computer since I was posting them while at work. I was fired for the content of the posts, although they were all completely harmless, such as your post. They felt I was divulging proprietary information.
For a long time I kicked myself for posting on the forums with my work computer, but really I should have been kicking myself for posting at all, from any device. In the end, just ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward.
Now, the bright side of this, 6 months later I landed a great job as a network admin for a great company.
Oh and about that company I used to work for, their name started with a T and ended with a Mobile.
well thats not very smart for you to do.....

I think you're missing the bigger point here. As I said in the post, the conclusion I made in the end was that it really wasn't worth it to post at all, regardless of where I was posting. They could just as easily linked me to the posts using other methods, such as overhearing something, or someone tattling. Or maybe I became facebook friends with someone on the forums, and they reported me. There are plenty of ways.
Nevertheless, I did say to do what you will with the story. But seriously, consider the whole risk vs. reward part of it. What are you really getting out of posting small bits of 'insider' information? Probably not much. And believe me, I didn't think I was divulging anything proprietary, but it didn't matter what I thought. My posts were almost identical to yours. I wish someone had said this to me back then (even though I landed a better job in the end).
Anyhow, good luck to you. You probably won't get burned like I did, but as they say... **** happens.
Can someone explain why a rooted phone will not work with the OTA? Is having CWM also an issue? What do I need to do to prepare my phone before the update arrives?
I also do not understand why TMo would not publish the update on their site like they do with all the windows phones.

Absolutely right. I later learned that I wasn't the first to be terminated for posting, and I'm sure I won't be the last.
In my last comment I mentioned that I wish someone had given me this bit of 'advice' long ago, but come to think of it, someone pretty much did. I distinctly remember someone replying to me one day and saying that they know other employees had gotten in trouble for posting. I brushed it off just like this guy/gal.
Just trying to pay it forward

You need to revert back to stock for the update. This is because the update is designed to build on the stock OS, not whatever you have on your phone. As far as rooting it and leaving it stock, not sure what the root does to block the ota.

I can't be positive, but perhaps its not so much rooted as flashed with another ROM. I've heard of rooted phones being updated. I've not heard of cooked ROMs being updated.
But, I know nothing for sure.
I don't know if this means anything other than what it says. But I have tried to connect to get software update and it keeps giving me the old can't connect at this time message. Could it be that the servers on their end are overwhelmed with others trying to do the update if it is indeed out?
And another question...I am not a T-Mo suscriber. I use Simple Mobile. Would the update get pushed to my G2x or would I have to manually install it? Thanks
Thanks guys. I am running rooted stock and stayed that way on purpose so I could get the update. I also stayed stock because my phone runs like a champ. Never had a reboot and everything works as intended.
You are probably better off waiting a few days to let our developers get a hold of it anyway.

When there are 'Official' releases to multiple carriers, then each carrier would get a push, based on their own agreements with LG. If the phone is a regionally sold phone, also called unbranded, a push is made to them also. Most commonly, you see the unbranded phones get the update first, since the carrier testing does not have to be done.
But, in reality..it is all a crap shoot....so you're still waiting, no matter what.
Anyone have any solid information on this though? There are just too many threads of "I just heard the GB update..." with no solid ROM information or even a picture.

So, I was wondering....where does one go to get 'solid' information? We're here in a community forum, using fake names. More than half of us can't vote, work in a burger king or in college. We all have a tendency to read and search and google/bing about the G2x.
I for 1 couldn't tell solid information from rumor. I will say this though...if the information you have, comes from Twitter, Android Police, TMONEWS, or anything with a 'Forum' in front of it....its a rumor. If your great news starts with, " I just talked to a TMobile CS...." its a rumor. If you just talked to your friend, who works in a store or is a TMobile CS agent, its a rumor.
You'll either get an OTA on your phone, and recieve the update which you can prove with a screen shot. Or you'll plug into the LG support tool and update, which you can validate again, with screenshots...
All else is rumors. Please post all rumors in the HTC Sensation forum...where they are living the dream.
I went to a T-Mobile store earlier today, and ended up talking to them about the official OTA update for G2x. Turns out they pulled it because of "Issues it had". My LG update tool messed up my two phones, so I'm no longer trying that. My only chance for an official GB is the OTA, so I was forced to ask a lot of questions when they broke the news. They said they have no idea when the update will go live again, but it will work again once the issue is fixed. I'm not going to go through the whole "soon" phase again. Hopefully this is fixed fast.
Thanks for posting this. I've decided to wait, but have been curious why I had not seen it on my G2X. My daughters update via OTA came the day after it came out. I assumed I hadn't seen it 'cause I'm rooted.

No, i was just curoius I guess. I don't like the HTC Sense UI, it is way too much for me. It slows down the phone way too much too.
The gingerbread update we got from LG is half way done if you ask me. T-Mobile should make them finish it and then push it as OTA to all of us...just a thought
IF this is true (and haven't there been lots of threads over the last couple of months where sales/support/service representatives confidently asserted "facts" that proved to be false or were even obviously wrong at the time?), I'm hoping it might be to rectify the one point about the upgrade that has been universally panned: the loss of the LG Froyo camera application. It would be nice to get some independent confirmation, but given both LG's and T-Mobile's demonstrated unwillingness to say anything definitive about anything, that seems unlikely...

Well you see, i explained to them that i bought a G2x (dual core, blah blah....), if i wanted a G2 i would have bought it. After all it is a 2yr or so old phone. Went on about how the BT on the phone does not work with an expensive BT. How it freezes....basically every other problem people where having i let them know. But she wasn't budging and i gave the phone back to the tmobile manager. Anyway to make a long story short i was nice to the manager and explained it all to him and even took it one step further. Right before i got to his store on monday, the BT locked up just like i suspected it would and i showed it to him and from then on he did is magic
Just like i ask the tmobile rep on the phone: if she had a lexus (LS 430) and she paid FULL price for it and it turns out to be a lemon. If lexus refuses to fix the problem or give her her money back but instead wanted to give her a honda from 2yrs would she take it? she was basically silent....that is when i handed the phone over to the manager. Anyway keep *****ing and they will definitely switch you over.

Hey everyone. I have a couple questions. This guy is selling me a g2x for 130 but says the simcard wont read at all anymore...idk if its software or hardware related but I think its a good price and maybe an easy or cheap fix, right? Also i remember hearing a lot of software issues on this phone but Im assuming root has solved them all by now right? i appreciate your input guys thanks!
UPDATE:
Thanks everyone I bought it. It looks like its almost brand new. only a faint scratch on the screen otherwise it looks flawless inside and out , no water damage, no abuse. It looks like its well taken care of. I verified the IMEI is NOT blacklisted, the phone reads the SIM and shows T-Mobile in the APN, however the notification bar has an Invalid SIM message rather than displaying T-Mobile. I have searched XDA and determined it has what is called "Baseband Corruption", I am unsure on how to fix this as I have read that flashing roms doesnt solve this issue as the RIL is not flashed with custom roms. Anyone have any suggestions? Does LG use anything similar to ODIN (a program used by Samsung phones to reflash every partition)? I think if LG has some kind of software to reflash every partition maybe this will fix the baseband corruption and make the phone usable?
If it's not reading any sim cards I bet it's water damaged and would stay away.

Wouldnt that be evident though if i checked the water indicator?
Even if it's reading the Sim card, stay away froma g2x period! It had the potentials of being a great phone, but the bugs will eventually become frustrating to deal with, i.e. the browser bug, camera zooming bug, no lg camera app which takes full advantage of the camera functionality, and so on......and don't dare even entertain the thought of going back to Froyo, unless you love going through random restarts and boot loops which leads to a hard resets.
I'm just sayin!

Another reason it may not read the Sim, is that it has been blocked for some reason.
not all of them have the bugs, would I recommend this phone over the SGS II probably not, would I recommend it over the Sensation or Amaze 4G probably... This guy seems to have something against the G2X lol.

the bugs doesn't appear to be hardware, it's software. Originally the g2x came with froyo. After many complaints about the random restarting and GB release date. Lg rushed an update which was supposed to have fixed the restarting issue in gb. Only to give us a half baked ROM, missing the camera app which decreased the quality of the camera, whereas at one point the camera was one of their marketing ploys to sell the phone. You can try installing other roms, but there will be a give and take issue.

He said he tried it out with his and his cousins sim card. So I dont know if mine would work either. My fear is that maybe its imei is blacklisted on t-mobile and thats why it wont work.
Even if it is blacklisted, wouldnt it say when u insert your sim in? Ive seen black listed phones when u insert ur sim in it will tell you to return it back to the originally owner. Id say go meet the guy up and try, if not, I have no clue what the fix would be.

Even if it is blacklisted, wouldnt it say when u insert your sim in? Ive seen black listed phones when u insert ur sim in it will tell you to return it back to the originally owner. Id say go meet the guy up and try, if not, I have no clue what the fix would be.

Ah, okay I will definitely look out for that. And actually the guy told me he didnt try it with his sim card because he has AT&T. The phone is his cousins and it stopped working with his cousin. i will meet him up and try to see if it works with my sim. If theres nothing on the water indicators, no blacklist message, and no missing contacts on the sim reader, then maybe its the sim reader or some dust thats causing the issue and can be replaced.

But all of those issues you stated are only on LG stock based ROMs. Custom ROMs such as CM7 don't have these issues.

That's true, but the hdmi is not working on cm7 due to nvidia, right? At least that is what it was last I checked.

Ive never been one to use any android phone stock, so rooting will help me there. Im just worried about the phone's IMEI being blocked and maybe impossible to unblock? Its a good price for $130 if theres no water damage and I wouldnt mind paying a little extra to fix the SIM issue. Im still debating whether to pick it up or not. I told him Id meet him in three hours so I am weighing my options

would that be correct?
thanks
I think it shows hibernate and airplane mode and reboot. Its been so long since I've seen it I can barely remember. I've been rooted since the day I got this phone lol.

I would just tell them it isn't working anymore. I've actually had that happen on another phone and they replaced it. I wouldn't send it back rooted though.

And it's just a standard menu on stock when holding power, nothing like a rooted custom from menu.

Verizon can see if you are rooted and any custom rom or modified kernel you are using. They have full access to all the information in the "about phone" screen in settings. If they wanted to deny a warranty claim due to being rooted, all they would have to do is look on their systems and see what you were running.
bastards said they will charge me 300 something if i send back without the power button
if i jam it in am i screwed either way if i send it back since i already callled??
asurion only has tblolts id rather wait till they out of stock and get rezound

I agree. I have been over my about phone with Verizon several times and even returned rooted phones to them and they never said crap. I think they ask because they want to see if you're going to slip up and tell them some wrong information.

+1 lol Verizon has no way to tell your rooted unless they have your phone in front of them. If they knew, you would be warned as soon as you root your device. Where do these people get their info?? Lol

Yeah most of them don't really care anyway. I had a touch pro 2 from Sprint, first phone I ever rooted. I panicked because I had to send it back, didn't know how to re-lock! Finally after searching and reading and searching I figured it out! Lol

They can see your radio version every time you connect to their towers, They can see your software/kernel/baseband if they like through the information your phone sends to them as you use it. Also they still have stuff like Carrier IQ on phones that COULD even read you your text messages if they wanted. Dont think they cant see it because they can. They just dont let you know they can because it could be considered illegal.

This is BS because if that's the case they would have made me pay full price on two different occasions for phones that were rooted when I sent them back.

Seeing the radio version doesn't tell any carrier that someone is rooted. Being rooted is software related not radio related. Not unless custom radios are around, which is not available for the tbolt and im sure not for any other phone for that matter.
The only info phones send to the network is account information so the tower knows whether or not to provide service. That's it.
If they knew more details about a device then they would have no reason to ask us about our phone. They wouldn't waste their time as the info would pop up on their computer screens. If they saw anything other than the latest official OTA, then they would tell you that they can't do anything and that you voided your warranty so even switching back to stock won't make them change their mind.
The fact they would "waste" time to find out every detail from you pretty much sums up that this info is NOT available to them. CSRs like to help the customer as quickly as possible to get them off the line and help the next. And at this moment, asking customers about their phones is the quickest way.

So you think that those little forum signatures that can tell you what OS you are running, what browser and even your IP know more about your phone than your carrier?
Must be nice to be that gullible.
Think what you will, I know for a fact they can see the information. They literally don't care. The warranty is through another company and has nothing to do with Verizon. It is also perfectly legal to root your phone and do what you want with it as of July 26 2010 http://www.androidguys.com/2010/07/26/rooting-android-phone-longer-crime/
The only thing it does is void any extended warranty you bought. So do restore to stock for returns to asurion and the likes.
They ask you because the lower tier CS people do not have access to your phone information, if you are escalated enough you will eventually find someone who can and will rattle off all your information to you.
If you can provide proof then I will take back what I said and apologize. I've played dumb before in the past just to see if it was possible for tier 2 and 3 (technical departments) to know this information. I simply stated that I didn't know how to access the about phone section. They tried to "help" me access this section and i pretended I was getting frustrated. I asked them to see if there was a way for them to see it on their systems and they told me no. They couldn't "help" me with my pretend issue unless I gave them this info. So all I was given was generic troubleshooting tips. They then stated to take it to the store for the CSR to look at my phone for the software version. I did this on a couple of occasions just to get a different Rep each time.
Yes, your mobile browser sends browser info to a website, and OS info. User agent strings are sent so that a website will know how to display the website on the browser. You can easily set the user agent to the stock HTC user agent. But this is irrelevant to Verizon as I can install different browsers on my phone which have unique user agents for each one. Just because my phone sends a dolphin user agent or maxathon user agent and not the stock HTC user agent, this does not imply I am rooted.
OS version is very easy to hack. You can edit this by going to the build.prop and change the OS version to the stock version and I'm sure there is a hack to fake the kernal (you might have to recompile the kernal to change the name)
All the IP address provides is the owner of the IP address (i.e. verizon) and in some cases, the general location of where the IP is being used. Verizon's LTE/EHRPD network use private IP addresses so it would be difficult to pin point a phone or information based on IP. This network uses Dynamic IPs so your IP will not be the same all the time. You have to pay extra to get a static address (business account). It is illegal to use an IP to gain access to any additional information unless a court order demands this.
The point of this is that you can pretty much make your rooted phone appear stock if it was really necessary to do so. Its a variant of Linux and Linux is very easy to work with if you know what you are doing.

Yup, does anyone just randomly do this though?
Sorry to cause the topic to get sidetracked like this, I was just trying to point out that Verizon don't care if we root or not.

If you can root your phone, then its a start. Your typical average user doesn't know what root means or even care what possibilities exist. I am pretty much the only person at my job who is rooted and I've had people ask me how I got my phone to look a certain way and they want their phone like this. When I explain the root process, they say screw that. Most people I know who are rooted know exactly what they can do with a rooted device. And new comers to rooting eventually pick up speed. Linux may be intimidating at first, but once you play around, you see how easy it is.
