[Q] Audio output / quality - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hi
I'm really interested in this one. Will it be able to drive the Sennheiser hd 25-sp ii? I have the 70Ω version.

Most likely.

As far as I can tell, it's nearly identical to the "beats" output of the DNA and the M7. It shouldn't have an issue, my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's are actually way too loud near higher volumes but they're not 70ohms lol.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced any issues with their 1/8" audio plug not seating correctly in the new One's audio jack. I've noticed that with the included HTC headphones I cannot consistently get the Left channel to work, which is rather annoying and makes music unlistenable. Twisting the cable and jiggling doesn't consistently fix it, and I don't want to use too much force as that could damage the jack. Luckily, I have another headset that seems to work without a hitch but the HTC headphones also work fine in other devices. I'm not sure if it's a borked audio jack or a crappy headphone problem, but I'm wary of running into this issue again anytime I buy new headphones.

Remote control with headphones

On my previous phones diamond and hero i've used the HTC RC E100 remote. It was quite handy, allowed me to control the music player without getting the phone out of my pocket, and the best thing was i could just use my own headphones!
Unfortunatly it has a mini-usb connector. Now that the desire uses a micro USB connector i am looking for something similiar.
Control for music, volume, phone (incl. mic) and where i can plug in my own headphones.
I just love those in ear headphones and don't want to use the ones that came with the desire.
Does anybody know about a remote that would fit my desire and my needs?
Thanks everyone!

Maybe something like these: http://www.lgmobileshop.co.uk/go/ac...10m?NAVID=2DE6D616-3005-BC57-7F4D79DFC6BE490B
Not sure how good/bad they are in terms of quality.

The Desire uses a standard micro USB (5-pin micro-USB 2.0) connection, I am just thinking whether or not the Desire even supports audio through the USB...
As far as I know, the Nexus One uses a standard Micro-USB connector, which has no audio support. The only way to listen through an amp is Bluetooth or the headphone jack.

thank you for the provided information. as the nexus one and the desire are very similar, i guess the desire will miss the audio support via usb as well. in all other phones where audio via usb was supported, HTC has used a non standard usb port.
i will keep on searching for a remote that plugs in via the headphone jack. if someone has an idea
cheers,

I think I have a solution.
Jabra BT3030 bluetooth headset. A2DP and AVRCP so you get your stereo sound and also utilise audio controls. Plus it has a 3.5mm jack so you can plug in whatever headphones you want.
Google it. I've got one on the way.
I've been looking for head phones too, and these look like the best offer so far. I am a bit worried about the blue tooth running down the battery though. But let me know how you find these. If all the buttons work with the desire I'll probably get myself a set.
I've been using my Jabra BT3030 and the controls do work. There is a small time lag between pressing a button on the Jabra and it responding.
One good thing I found about the phone (with or without headphones) is that the volume control on the phone works even when the phone has gone to sleep. On my HD2 that didn't happen and it really annoyed me.

So how is the Jabra overall? Worth buying? I've been reading the amazon reviews and some issues have been raised, like the buttons not working with music after you get a call. Do the volume buttons work, and how is the sound quality? Lastly, how bad is it on the battery?
Thanks in advance.

i think i will give it a try, the only thing that worries me is the fact that i would have another thing to charge. I was also thinking about soldering a headphone jack into the standard htc remote that came with the phone. i will keep you up to date.

these look interesting, i've been thinking about looking for some headphones with music controls too...
how is the sound quality with the jabra bt3030, is it just as good as having headphones plugged into the phone?
does running bluetooth hammer the phone battery?
yea i like the look of it, the ability to skip tracks without whipping ur phone out seems great. that always annoyed me with the iphone.. but as i listen to music for hours on end at work (Without a charger handy), i wanna know how much the BT will effect battery life?
id imagine it would decline pretty quickly ?
I have a Jabra BT 3030 which I used extensively with my G1 because I hated carrying around a MiniUSB to audio jack lead.
However I haven't even tried it with my Desire, like someone said its just another thing you need to remember to charge, and as the Desire has a headphone socket (and a micro usb) it would mean carry two leads, or an adaptor to keep them both charged.
That said the Jabra has a fairly decent battery life as long as you remember to turn it off when your not using it.
The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for listening to music unless your a real audiophile, though its obviously not as good as a direct connection to the phone.

Heh. Arrowed.
I use a pair of Sony DR-BY20NX Bluetooth headphones with my desire. headphone battery life is 11hrs.it also has audio controls and can answer call.
fairly cheap but discontinued and becoming hard to find. well worth it though.

I was in CPW last week and the guy who was serving me also had a desire, he was using the Nokia Bh-214 (iirc), its a bluetooth remote with a 3.5mm plug. I tried it out and it sounded good, it has full controls including volume. Its around £40 and available
Also, I have been searching about and found the Sony MW-600 its a bluetooth remote with a 3.5 mm jack, it also comes with headphones and has a built in FM radio. Also has full controls, its around £40 and not out till May.
Personally I am going to wait till the Sony one is out, it has positive reviews and i trust Sony more when it comes to music and the like. Just annoying having to wait!
I am using a cheap BT A2DP, and it works very well. It can be used as BT handsfree or stereo earphone, also has a remote to skip and back the track, that works fine in TuneWiki (but it not for HTC player). The quality of the sound is still far below my KOSS earphone though... but for 26USD and free delivery that thing is really a good deal.
This is the link, but I just found out that is sold out at this moment.

They have another one, almost the same spec but I don't know whether it works as good as the other one.

[Q] Headphones issue

Hi all.
I'm running in a strange kind of issue.
My HTC headphone seemed not to work any more. That is, my Sensation (both CM9 and ARHD) recognized it as simple headphone, no microphone.
So I got one extra HTC headphone. No way: they just work as headphones without the microphone.
Then I bought a EUR 10.- "compatible" headphones. They worked fine out of the box under both ARHD and CM9. Those are too crappy and the wire on one of the earpieces just broke.
Now my questions.
1. Do you think I just broke 2 HTC headphones or maybe there's some issue with those custom ROMs?
2. Who can it be that a non-HTC, cheap and crappy headphones can work fine?
3. Any hint?
TIA.

Hi,
My BOSE headphone/microphone works fine on ARHD.
Is there any dust or fluff in the headphone socket.
This will stop the pin going in fully, and not work properly.

I've tried the two headphones on another Sensation and they work.
I've tried to use a vacuum cleaner to pump any fluff out of the socket.
But I still get the same: only headphones, no microphone.
This is happening also with CM9.
What the **** is happening to my phone/headphones?

Have a look at the port for your headphone jack. Does it look like the paint is slightly chipped and you can see the silver underneath? Is so then unfortunately like myself you have the issue of the connection shorting as the jack touches the metal case of the phone. This thread might be of some help.

I fear you can be badly right!
I also get the music player started while listening to the FM Radio.
Yes, it looks like a ghost contact!
I'll try to apply solution no.2 as no.1 is pretty ugly!

[HARDWARE PROBLEM] Headphone jack static/hiss noise?

Hey guys,
I bought a One X recently, and I am noticing some static/hiss/noise coming from the headphones.
I tried connecting my One X to bigger speakers, and the noise is more noticeable this way. This is an odd issue, because none of my other phones behave this way.
The funny thing is, if you play music or notification noises play when the phone is connected to speakers, the noise goes away. But after one second, when the DAC shuts off, the noise comes back again.
My friend's One X has this problem as well, so I don't think I just have a lemon here.
Other forums seem to be talking about this issue as well
http://www.htconeforum.com/forum/htc-one-x-help/300-htc-one-x-sound-issues-headphones.html
http://www.htconeforum.com/forum/htc-one-x-help/327-sound-issue.html
I found one review that mentions this issue. They talk about it in the Beats Audio section, and there's a video with the noise.
http://www.tekgadg.com/home/2012/6/15/htc-one-x-rogers-review.html
I remember using a really cheap chinese knockoff mp3 player about 8 years ago, and the One X seems to have the same problem as that mp3 player. Could it be that the One X has a cheap DAC in it that causes this noise?
Anyone else experience this problem?
The first link is about the international version, the lte one x is technically the One XL, and this is the first time hearing about this. Mine doesn't have a problem and I listen to music all the time.
Just and idea possibly cheap headphones?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
My music is crystal clear, probably one of the best quality sound outputs I've heard from a phone actually.
Mine has this problem, but I only notice when I hook it up to my car speakers (with an aux cable) and not with headphones (Bose). It's a lot more pronounced when the phone is plugged into usb as well. Once sound plays though, the hissing stops completely. It's only when there is no output that the hiss is present.
Edit: Could it possibly be interference from the cellular radio? Maybe once the DAC kicks in it filters out the interference?
Edit 2: Just read the 3rd link and yeah, my speculation seems to have some validity
"Adding insult to injury, HTC One X features a badly shielded headset jack that makes noise whenever it is hooked up to sensitive speakers. We compared it to high-end and low-end phones, and none of them made the annoying static noise that the One X makes. This isn't a serious problem for people who only listen to music through headphones, but you may want to stay away from the One X if you are thinking about playing music through it with big speakers."
I had the same problem. If you are rooted, disable beats audio notify with titanium backup. I did this and use power amp with custom eq settings and do not notice any hiss whatsoever.
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA
Same problem here. WAY worse when plugged in and in my car. On regular headphones no problem. In my car it's huge. To me it reeked of a poor ground somewhere, to the point that I thought my unit was defective. If it were a shielding problem I would think it would be an issue all of the time, not just when the thing is "inactive" (ie not driving the jack). I've "disabled" beats to the extent that I can without rooting, and it had no noticeable difference.
Glad to hear it's not just me.
I notice the problem when I use both the microUSB charger and headphone jacket. Disconnect the charger cable usually solves my problem. Now, I switched to use BT car adapter instead of aux cable and I can use car charger without noise.
The problem is called BEATS AUDIO!

I still get the hiss despite disabling Beats (as in just turning it off in the notification shade), although it is definitely not as bad as having Beats turned on. I'll freeze HTCBeatsNotify and see if it helps on the way to work tomorrow morning.

Sadly beats audio is integrated beyond what you can turn off in settings.
so, the only solution is to root the phone and completely kill Beats Audio?
I guess it's not a hardware problem then... Man, that sucks. Has this issue been brought to light by some big sites yet? We need to do something so HTC learns from this mistake.
By the way, here's the update I promised...
Like I said before, I disabled beats from the notification pulldown but the hiss was still there, although slightly less annoying. I froze HTCBeatsNotify (or whatever the actual name is) using TiBu so Beats doesn't even show up when I plug it in. Unfortunately, the hiss is still there at the same level it was at when I just disabled Beats from the notification pulldown.
Is Beats actually integrated into the hardware? Is the "poorly shielded headphone jack" mentioned in one of the OP's links still a valid assumption? Can someone running CM9/AOKP chime in on whether they get the hiss?
Edit: Before I head home today I'll go into Airplane mode to try to rule out the headset jack shielding.
Annnnd of course my experiment failed...hiss is still there
If the headphone jack is indeed poorly shielded, couldn't it pick up interference from anything? Not just the internal radios?
This means we'll have to go into some radio-free environment in order to determine whether it's the headphone jack or Beats Audio that causes this annoying hiss.
In either case, I'm disappointed in HTC.

Well I mean, the internal radio would be the strongest signal in the immediate area that would cause interference. Just look at old, poorly shielded computer speakers, they had issues only when a phone would go off within maybe a yard of them. I was in a parking garage at the time I tested and I'm not sure if there was anything else around that would be powerful enough to cause the interference.
Also something I noticed which may lend credence to the DAC being the source of the issue...Just plugging my phone into usb and having the headphone jack attached does not produce as much interference as when I'm streaming from Google Music and it gets caught buffering. As in, when the DAC would still be active but no audio is output. The hiss during that situation is quite a bit worse than just having the phone sit there not doing anything.
Since Beats is just a glorified equalizer, it could be that Beats just happens to be boosting the sound frequencies of the hiss and making it sound louder, and not the actual source of the hiss itself. So maybe it is a hardware issue.
Again, I can't imagine ti being "poor shielding" because that would not immediately go away once you started playing music. Think about typical cell phone interference from a radio. You're playing music, and you hear that "bvvvvrerrerrr" sound.
In the case of the HTC, as soon as you start playing music, the hum goes away IMMEDIATELY and completely as far as I can tell. If shielding were the problem it wouldn't it still be distorted regardless of whether the jack was actively playing anything or not?
Seems more to me that the DAC is leaving some signals floating, leaving them susceptible to noise, when it's not active, when it should be pulling them to a known state (probably ground)
Not from DAC either. If you plug in a headphone, you will not hear these noises. It seems only occur when you plug into AUX import of car or amps.
So, it is a hardware design problem that causes dirty interference escaped into audio output. When you plug in a normal headphone, it has very low impendence and the noise will not get amplifed at all. If you plug it into an AUX import, it will have a much higher impendence and hence the noise get carrier over and amplified.

[Q] Headphones Mono--What gives?

I recently obtained a new pair of Skullcandy Fix In-Ear headphones, and when using them with my GS3, I can only hear from the left bud. I can hear from both perfectly when I apply a little bit of pressure in the right direction to the jack. The headphones work perfectly with every other source, but I have not tried them with another GSIII. My GSIII can output audio in perfect stereo to any other speaker/headphone.
Seriously, what's going on? Does anyone have this issue, or have an idea on how to fix it?
If it makes a difference, I'm running Beans 14 with the included kernel.

Anyone using Rocketfish RF-MAB2 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones?

My One X (Rogers) gives constant crackles and pops when I listen to audio over Bluetooth with these headphones, and I experience the same with an older pair of Jabra BT-620s.
I'm trying to figure out whether it could be a BT chipset incompatibility or a hardware problem with the One X.
I'm aware of the WiFi and Bluetooth issues some units have, but that does not appear to be what I'm experiencing: my range is very good and the crackles occur even if I hold the phone at 2 inches from the headphones.
Anyone else have the Rocketfish headphones? Can you comment on your experience?
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply. That pretty much confirms that it is a hardware problem with my phone.
Bizarrely, the problem seems to be worse with CM10 than with Sense-based ROMS including stock, but it is present regardless.
I hope HTC will honour the warranty it if is clearly hardware-related, despite the bootloader being unlocked. They were quite helpful on the phone but said that the repair center would make that decision.
