So, I'm using the HTC gesture keyboard (like Swype) and I'm hoping that someone can help me to remove a word from the dictionary. Everytime I try to spell the word "and", I get "abd". I will never use the word "abd". Is there a way to remove it from the dictionary? Thanks....

Did you accidentally add it to your dictionary? If so simple remove it by going to the input settings ,under personal dictionary and remove it, if your not sure you can also check

Sadly no. It's in the "stock" dictionary apparently.
You could try to add Abd to your dictionary then remove it... Might help

This has been plaguing me since even the M7. It drives me absolutely nuts and I have not yet found any fix for it -_-
To delete a word, in the keyboard's settings, select "personal dictionary". Then press on the menu dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Select delete from the menu. This will take you to another screen. Find the word you want to get rid of and put checkmark to the right of it. Then press delete at the bottom right of the page. Should get the job done for you.

Glad it's not just me having this problem...
I had to look up what this word meant. Apparently abt means "all but dissertation," for someone going for a PHD. That being said I don't think this should be default in a dictionary either.
It can be done easily once proper root is available.
In fact, I usually replace the stock dictionary with a better third party one.

I had to do the same thing. I noticed that WTF is not in the dictionary, and I suspect that it is used far more often than abd....
This is driving me insane!!! I've gotta train myself to swype far enough to get the "n" instead of the "b".

I don't know if you use the xposed framework, but here is a module that I found that might help you out. This sounds like what you are wanting. I haven't used it myself.

the OP doesn't want this. what he wants to do is remove a word that is built-in to the keyboard before ever typing your first word.
say like you swipe or type the word 'hell' the predictive text will show you 'hell' ' he'll' and 'help'. what the OP wants to do is remove one of the three is predicts.
in his case he types/swipes the word 'and' and he gets 'abd' instead. he has mentioned he checked where you suggested and it is not a word he has saved or accidentally saved, but a built-in word
it took me a few reads to get what he was wanting, but i finally understood it all. then i cam across the module in my previous post which seems exactly as to what he wants. hopefully it helps

donwoad and install from there
its pretty simple once you use it a few times, here is a quickie:
download and install xposed
open xposed
choose framework and click install/update
itll ask you to update, choose yes and do the soft reboot
after you rebooted
open xposed
choose downloads and find whatever module you think will come in handy (some are only compatible with certain devices)
download the module and it will say its not activated
back up and go to modules, select it to activate it (you can touch the module to adjust any settings if there are any)
do a soft reboot and the module will start working

1. Download swype here. (if for some reason it downloads as .zip, just change the file extension to .apk)
2. Transfer to your Eris via USB
3. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources (You all prob have done this before but my n00b friends had not so I thought I would mention it anyways)
4. Use a file manager program such as Astro File Manager and go to the location you stored the .apk
5. Install
6. After install go to Settings -> Locale & Text -> Check Swype
7. Open any email/text client and hold down the text box and you will get a popup asking what you want for input. Select Swype. You only have to do this once and it will do it for all your programs.
8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype

3) There is no option to tap on a word to edit it while in Portrait mode, reports that landscape mode works fine.

Just saw the Spanish dictionary in there so great.
Man, I was sceptical about swype when I first heard about it, but it is freakin wicked!
I wasn't too sure about this either, but it's growing on me! I'll have to run it through it's paces over the next few days and see how well it works for me. So far so good.
I suggest going through the entire tutorial.
Also, those not sure how to get it running as your default text input, just tap and hold onto a text input place to select the new default, you can always disable swipe at any time by doing the same thing. It doesn't replace anything that I can see, just another app to use.
Thanks for sharing OP!
this just made text input infinitely easier on this phone.
Wow love this so far thanks for the find.
Works great but I get FC when i hold down the backspace button to delete words. Works great if i just tap it but holding it down will always FC

Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I tried both. i even uninstalled, cleared all swype data & tried that, no dice. charging phone now to do a hard reset & see if that works
Just did a hard reset & still getting this stupid bug.
For me to add a new word that doesn't exists, I first have to manually type it and select it on the word suggestion bard (because auto correct will try to suggest a "correct" word). After I select the word, the option to "add <word> to dictionary" will appear for me on the word suggestion bar and pressing it will add it to the dictionary (Somewhat like stock gingerbread keyboard).
yeah I do that & it says that it added the word, yet when I reswipe it it's not added. I can do this 10 times in a row & it still won't stick
So I'm apparently an idiot & my Swype does work. I was under the impression that when it said 'Add "xnifex" to the dictionary' it was notifying me that that's what it was doing. I wasn't aware that you had to tap that notification for it to work. On the HD2 if you manually type in a word it's automatically added to the dictionary so I thought it was the same behavior. Yay for the swype team helping me out.

Did you actually clicked on "add <word> to dictionary"? Unlike on Froyo, where Swype saves a word after hitting space, now the users have to confirm the action by clicking on the right above the keyboard.

Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I'd just like to add that I had this problem, I was tapping to add to dictionary and there were literally no words in the dictionary, it was basically a tap keyboard. I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, then installed the Full version instead of the English/Other language one. This one has a dictionary and will save new words to it.
Thanks guys, I learned something new today;-)
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.
I just want to say that I had the exact same issue as the OP. I thought that it was automatically adding the words to the dictionary, but some bug prevented them from appearing or something. I just wasn't clicking the "Add "word" to dictionary".
To be fair, it's not very clear on the UI that it's something that you can or should press. It doesn't have a question mark at the end, which would make you realise that it's ASKING you something, not telling you something.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Swype is the best. My only problem is the word bar above the keyboard. I find it distracting, and hard to get used to. I've looked everywhere trying to find a way to turn it off. Besides that, swype is 1,000x better than what comes with the sensation.

I've installed the new Google Play app that has "installed" and "all" lists under My Apps, and the ability to delete apps from the "all" list. However, I keep hearing about others being able to multi-select by long pressing an item and then selecting other items, and deleting more than one app at a time. I'm not able to do this no matter what I try. Has anyone else got it to work on an Inspire?

OK, I laughed. I'll keep trying, but it just doesn't seem to be working for me. If I ever "get lucky" with this one, I'll report back.
more info and questions!
I've been reading some reviews of the new version and my screen looks slightly different from the ones in the reviews. At the top of the review photos, in the "all" app listing screen, I see not only a search icon (the magnifying glass) but just to its right, three small squares on top of each other. In some apps this is associated with switching from "single select" to "multiple select".
In other screens, in particular one where several items have already been highlighted (selected), there is a delete icon (the circle with a line through it) by itself at the upper right where the search and the "multiple select" icons were before.
From the screen shots it certainly looks like you select the "multiple select" icon, which then changes to a "delete" icon, and you select the items you wish to batch delete, finishing the deletion by pressing the "delete" icon at the upper right of the screen.
No one and none of the reviews have actually mentioned having to press a "multiple select" icon before being able to do a batch deletion.

I'm going to try backing up my ROM, running the no-sense script to remove Sense, and seeing if the new version works then. Once I've used the batch uninstall I'll reflash the ROM and presumably all will be well.
This, I am *sure*, has been asked before, and answered. In fact I'm fairly sure I already know the answer, at least according to the official reviews... but then XDA people have a habit of changing the "official rules"
Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to customise the apps that appear in the pop-up folder, that comes up when you remove the s-pen from the holder.
Im pretty sure you can't, and that its mentioned as such in a review I read before buying the Note a couple days ago. (On ICS at least... I dont know if this has changed for Jellybean?)
But I figured, if anyone has found a way to change this, you guys would have!
I did try searching for the answer in the forums... but my problem was I didnt really know what that pop-up menu/folder thing is actually *called*, which made it difficult. I'm sorry if I missed something obvious!!
Thanks for any help
Should I take that as a no? Or at least a "not yet".
No, not the side folder however a lot of apps have been added to the pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen, in the themes section there's a thread with links to apps that have been modified to work in this.
Theres also a thread floating around that tells you how to alter an apk file to make it capable of this. The downside is that since you altered the apk file you can no longer update that particular app without then editing the files in the apk file to once again make it pop-up menu compatible...

Nah, I did know about that one. One of the options in that settings menu is "Open shortcuts toolbar". Thats the toolbar I am talking about.

Ah, ok, I know you can choose to have only a few or just one, but as far as I know you can only select or deselect the ones shown. As of right now you can't add any others. I think I read somewhere that possibly with 4.1 or 4.2 that may change. :fingers-crossed:
EDIT - so seems this isn't working. Sigh, thought this was the end of this particular problem. I'll keep researching and post if I find something.
Found this on the Droid 4 forum (link below). So I always had an issue with not being able use symbols, capitalize stuff, etc. when using Chrome, Naked Browser, whatever. Figured it was a software issue but finally decided to Google it and the fix is easy:
-Settings
-Language/Input
- AOSP Settings
- Language
- Uncheck 'Use System Language'
- Scroll down, uncheck English
- Scroll Down to No Language - QWERTY (seriously, says that), check
Should be good to go. Not sure if it works on stock but worth a shot. I hated having to use my on screen keyboard for passwords and crap.
Soure: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...shift-key-not-working-most-punctuation-4.html
Ah, I did always wonder why some text fields seemed to be created differently than others...
Input field racism I tell you!
Nice find, thanks
Edit - just tried it, perhaps I need to restart... I still need to hold shift in order to get special characters to appear in fields on Chrome...
Yea, still having issues myself. Seems to work in the url field but not in password fields, etc. I'll see if I can find anything else in the link or online.

Bummer, I was hoping I did something wrong, lol.
I'm trying to remember what apps were misbehaving here as well... there were a few, which probably just used webUI frontends for their app instead of making true context-aware Android fields.
I know it works in Words with Friends, text messaging and most other apps (can't remember any not working) and seems to be only in the browser. Really annoying but holding the shift key is better than before where I just opened up Swype.

Oh holding shift in the browser always worked for me... I was always able to put in the special characters holding shift, even before this mod.
Still, it's confusing why different text fields receive different treatment...
It never even occured to me to hold the shift key down, honestly. I just dealt with it. I don't really know the inner workings of android well enough to say why it doesn't work but I think it's weird that it works in mobile apps like USAA and Ebay, which I always thought just took the website and displayed it in a better format than a browser.

Hi,
First of a i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but it is hardware keyboard related. So if it is misplaced please forgive me!
How do you disable the special characters that are typed when you quickly double press for example the letter e. example: I want to type steel, but i end up with stél.
Settings - Advanced - multipress. Two options, you pick one. The multipress interval let's you disable the feature completely.

So I was messing around a bit and it seems I don't need to hold the shift key to get a special character, just press the character key right after the shift key. I ridiculously quick press that requires two hands anyways. So maybe the browsers aren't correctly interperting the 'hold' the shift key normally sends (I know very little about coding so hopefully this makes sense) and releasing it way too soon? I think I've exhausted Google search options as of now.
