in your swype settings, do you have word prediction ticked?
you always need to tick that on installing! lol
so just go to keyboard setting, or tap the swype key when your writing then pres options, andmake sure its ticked
. that should cure it.

word suggestion& auto-correction are on.

definitely puzzling. Did you download a new installer. Then the beta. If you downloaded english spanish beta. Try fill or vice versa
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes

I tried both. i even uninstalled, cleared all swype data & tried that, no dice. charging phone now to do a hard reset & see if that works

Just did a hard reset & still getting this stupid bug.

For me to add a new word that doesn't exists, I first have to manually type it and select it on the word suggestion bard (because auto correct will try to suggest a "correct" word). After I select the word, the option to "add <word> to dictionary" will appear for me on the word suggestion bar and pressing it will add it to the dictionary (Somewhat like stock gingerbread keyboard).

yeah I do that & it says that it added the word, yet when I reswipe it it's not added. I can do this 10 times in a row & it still won't stick

So I'm apparently an idiot & my Swype does work. I was under the impression that when it said 'Add "xnifex" to the dictionary' it was notifying me that that's what it was doing. I wasn't aware that you had to tap that notification for it to work. On the HD2 if you manually type in a word it's automatically added to the dictionary so I thought it was the same behavior. Yay for the swype team helping me out.
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?3769-Can-t-add-words-to-dictionary-on-brand-new-install

Did you actually clicked on "add <word> to dictionary"? Unlike on Froyo, where Swype saves a word after hitting space, now the users have to confirm the action by clicking on the right above the keyboard.
I was so used to the old swype, it took me 2 days to realize that...

Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes

I'd just like to add that I had this problem, I was tapping to add to dictionary and there were literally no words in the dictionary, it was basically a tap keyboard. I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, then installed the Full version instead of the English/Other language one. This one has a dictionary and will save new words to it.

Thanks guys, I learned something new today;-)
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.

I just want to say that I had the exact same issue as the OP. I thought that it was automatically adding the words to the dictionary, but some bug prevented them from appearing or something. I just wasn't clicking the "Add "word" to dictionary".
To be fair, it's not very clear on the UI that it's something that you can or should press. It doesn't have a question mark at the end, which would make you realise that it's ASKING you something, not telling you something.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Swype is the best. My only problem is the word bar above the keyboard. I find it distracting, and hard to get used to. I've looked everywhere trying to find a way to turn it off. Besides that, swype is 1,000x better than what comes with the sensation.

LISTEN EVERYONE..to solve the problem download a app called ''SMS to swype'' and it picks up every word you type from all the keyboards you used and saves them to the dictionary SOLVED

Working great for me on 2.1 Darch Legend V.5.
You need to install the .apk, then go into settings >> keyboard >> enable swiftkey
Next you need to go into swiftkey settings and download a language pack.
After all that, long press on a text entry box and select SwiftText.
So far it is pretty great at predicting what I am about to type in 2 letters or so. I love Swype..but I am willing to give this a try for awhile.

I have not had any problems using it on DamageRegaw ROM. I think I downloaded straight to phone from the email link I received and then just installed using ES file explorer.
I hope that helps. Word prediction on this keyboard is interesting.

Eh, its better then stock, but once you try swype, its hard to type with anything else. If only swype had the voice thing like stock android, that would be awesome
OMFG!!! that looks awesome. so here's the question, if i want it how hard is it to try and then if i don't like it how hard to get rid of it?

I'm faster with Swype than a physical keyboard. I have installed it for two G1 owners recently after they got a hold of my phone.
No problems with darchlegendv5 I tested by just pushing space and if typed this " up to the business of Parity shall be liable for the use of the individual or entity to which it is a bit of a man they are trying to trace in connection with the word. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person." Exactly what I wanted to type. Crazy smart keyboard, but I think it's pretty nice thus far just a little slow.

Question about Nexus S keyboard

Hi,
When you press the SEARCH key, and typing in the text field ...
Does the keyboard give you text prediction?
And also when you search in the Market app ...
If not, is possible to enable text prediction on all input fields?
Thanks.
Negative on the text prediction for search. I get text prediction in the form of app suggestions on the market, but I don't know if that's quite what you're looking for.
As far as enabling it, I have no idea. I don't recall if any of my past Android devices did text prediction on search. :/

Take a look at SwiftKey. Text prediction is one of the reasons that my wife and I moved to it. We like this keyboard much better than stock, for us it was well worth the money.
This is common for several fields in several different apps. I work for Swype, so I've seen this myself, but since our keyboard doesn't typically work this way it's only been a curiosity for me. I believe it is considered a "feature" since you might want to explicitly type something else other than what prediction guesses. If you want to give Swype a try, the beta is currently open at: http://beta.swype.com/
Hi there,
Thanks for your info. I still find it odd, to not have this common behavior on all input fields.
Heck, the old HTC_IME hack on HTC Desire works pretty well with all the options to have prediction in all kind of input fields (thanks to the modder, jonasl). I still have this on my signature below.
But recently, I like the new Nexus S keyboard. It look slick, easy to type. But yeah, I missed some of the HTC_IME improvements, like SMILEY button!
As for SWYPE, granted, it is a very nice keyboard. But, I don't use ENGLISH that much I am using south-east asian language which is not supported
So, I am afraid that it does not offer much advantage.

The built in Gingerbread keyboard does have a smiley button. It's a "smart" keyboard, it knows what you're doing and shows you the appropriate keys/features/functions.
Go write a txt message, and you'll see a smiley key on the bottom right.
They should've taken out the period and extended the space bar. Its very frustrating when I'm trying to type fast. IPhone still had the best touch keyboard available

Obviously because I am using Nexus S keyboard on my HTC Desire! Probably it does not work fully as designed (I did not see that smiley button).
But, does that smiley button also appear when you type in EMAIL or TEXT AREA like replying to forum like this using the web browser?
Or when typing comments on Facebook app! That would be very nice.

What's the difference between Swype and Trace which is already on the sense keyboard? Also, can you use a standard phone keyboard with Swype? I've been using the standard phone keyboard in portrait, but when I turn the phone to landscape to bring up the full keyboard, the trace function is missing. It only works when the portrait keyboard is set to full keyboard.

still puzzles me why HTC decided not to load Swype on the Sensation and come up with their own...
anyway, what is up with the part of the agreement saying it can/may read your passwords, credit card info, ect?

Swype 3.0

Just installed the newest release of Swype, beta 3.0, on my CM 7.0.3. The predictive is vastly improved. But, there is some significant lag on the entries sometimes. Going to sere if that improves with a couple of reboots.

Mic doesn't work for me. I see a blue outline like when something in Swype is broken when I try to use it. However, the improvements to me are worth the upgrade. It has a better word selector, more similar to stock/sense keyboard.
Worked fine on CM7 and Synergy for me. I always restore data for the installer from ROM to ROM. I think that preserves the license correctly. I also ran it fine on Hybrid Sense 3.0 as well.
I'm really not liking some aspects of it.
1. Before, it would pop up a list of word possibilities and I could hit the little x if I didn't like any of the choices. Now, I have to delete the word manually to give it another try. Takes longer.
2. I like the single-click correction, but it causes grief sometimes. For example, if I know I want to insert a letter or apostrophe into a word, I click on the word and the cursor immediately jumps to the end, and then I have to click again in the position where I want to insert, or use the track pad. Again, takes longer and sometimes it jumps to the end of the word a second time. Very annoying.
3. I don't like having to touch a new word twice to store it. Much rather have the previous implementation where I just manually typed the word and it was forever memorized.
Some things are nicer, like being able to use predictive text when typing each letter, but overall I think I'd like to revert to the previous addition. I'll give it a few more days.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I like so far, like that when I'm writing a weird word, like a product number I'm googling, it does not get stored. also the fact that I always get the word selector, sometimes I it annoyed me that it would not pop up on common words with similar trace lines as non common.

So far so good for me. In previous versions after a reboot Swype stopped working and I had to re select it to get it to work. I haven't had this problem with V3.0

Experienced same thing. Uninstalled and and ran the installer which installed 3.0. After new install it worked for a day or two until it said Beta Expired so had to generate new code but took just about 10 seconds.
The backspace is a real pain in the butt when the predictive text is incorrect and for those of us who have a foul mouth in text with our friends, it likes to replace a certain F word with duck no matter how many times I add the F word.

It stays in landscape, vanished in vertical.
FWIW, it seems to be working great for me on MIUI. I do have to admit the jumping up and down with the predictive bar gets annoying.
My predictive bar is always on top of the keyboard, just blank inbetween words, not sure what everyone is talking about regarding the jumping around *shrug*.
I love the new word choice style. I used to always tap the bottom word when trying to go to the second page of choices and now that mistake has been eliminated. While it does lessen screen real estate a little, it also doesn't cover what you're typing, the webpage you're on, etc which is nice.
I also love that I have the choice to add words after typing them rather than being automatic. Before, captcha phrases, words like aaaaaahhh!, etc were always added and got in the way sometimes.
The automatic correction is okay for typing but it annoyed me that I had to confirm my choice when I swyped or else if I moved the cursor somewhere else to add a word in, the cursor would go back to the end and replace the last word instead. I just turned the auto correct option off and everything is perfect for my tastes!
As for the person upset about losing one touch delete/undo for wrong words via the 'x' button, if you tap the swype key it highlights the word behind your cursor and you can swype over it with a new word, which is pretty close, it just involves one more tap to delete if you don't want any word there at all.

[Q] How to remove "abd" from dictionary

This has been plaguing me since even the M7. It drives me absolutely nuts and I have not yet found any fix for it -_-
To delete a word, in the keyboard's settings, select "personal dictionary". Then press on the menu dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Select delete from the menu. This will take you to another screen. Find the word you want to get rid of and put checkmark to the right of it. Then press delete at the bottom right of the page. Should get the job done for you.

I had to look up what this word meant. Apparently abt means "all but dissertation," for someone going for a PHD. That being said I don't think this should be default in a dictionary either.
It can be done easily once proper root is available.
In fact, I usually replace the stock dictionary with a better third party one.

This is driving me insane!!! I've gotta train myself to swype far enough to get the "n" instead of the "b".

So, I'm using the HTC gesture keyboard (like Swype) and I'm hoping that someone can help me to remove a word from the dictionary. Everytime I try to spell the word "and", I get "abd". I will never use the word "abd". Is there a way to remove it from the dictionary? Thanks....

lol I feel your pain, man. I had the same problem on my Galaxy Note 2. >_<
So, now that we have root, and S off, is there a way to get this "word" removed from the dictionary, or to replace the stock dictionary with a better one?

It can be done easily once proper root is available.
In fact, I usually replace the stock dictionary with a better third party one.

Can you point me in the right direction for this "better third party" dictionary?

I don't know if you use the xposed framework, but here is a module that I found that might help you out. This sounds like what you are wanting. I haven't used it myself.
-HTC One m8-
Show
To delete a word, in the keyboard's settings, select "personal dictionary". Then press on the menu dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Select delete from the menu. This will take you to another screen. Find the word you want to get rid of and put check mark to the right of it. Then press delete at the bottom right of the page. Should get the job done for you.

the OP doesn't want this. what he wants to do is remove a word that is built-in to the keyboard before ever typing your first word.
say like you swipe or type the word 'hell' the predictive text will show you 'hell' ' he'll' and 'help'. what the OP wants to do is remove one of the three is predicts.
in his case he types/swipes the word 'and' and he gets 'abd' instead. he has mentioned he checked where you suggested and it is not a word he has saved or accidentally saved, but a built-in word
it took me a few reads to get what he was wanting, but i finally understood it all. then i cam across the module in my previous post which seems exactly as to what he wants. hopefully it helps

Being new to HTC products (previously rooted Moto products), I am unfamiliar with xposed. I need to search out the tutorial on how to use it, cause it appears to be pretty useful.

donwoad and install from there
its pretty simple once you use it a few times, here is a quickie:
download and install xposed
open xposed
choose framework and click install/update
itll ask you to update, choose yes and do the soft reboot
after you rebooted
open xposed
choose downloads and find whatever module you think will come in handy (some are only compatible with certain devices)
download the module and it will say its not activated
back up and go to modules, select it to activate it (you can touch the module to adjust any settings if there are any)
do a soft reboot and the module will start working
