I saw the fm radio framework in all apps however the verizon model doesn't have the fm radio apks. someone i know has the at&t version and his comes with the fm radio. he sent me the apk but it didn't install. being we have the framework file is fm radio possible in the verizon version of the m8?

If it is like the HTC one , one max, rezound.....the apk wont help. Vzw had them "fixed" so you won't get fm radio period.

Even with S-Off? Did Verizon take the hardware out for FM Radio? Not a feature i've ever used once in many devices i've owned with it but now just more curious?

Yep. I tried everything. The educated guess is they burned the fm radio out of the soc.

Why in the world would Verizon do that? I am definitely getting the reasons why people hate Verizon. Almost sorry I signed up..

Because they partnered with tunein radio and want you to use your data....vzw wants $$ for their shareholders.
Honestly, if Microsoft did something like this on a windows machine it would be grounds for another antitrust lawsuit. I'm just waiting to hear Verizon gets sued for this at some point.

they don't remove it, they just have the mfg disable the hardware. they used to allow it (I have an old VZW Moto Droid X with FM radio) but somehwere along the line they made a policy decision to not provide FM radio feature anymore.
Edit: hereby retracted -- VZW left the hardware connected in the M8!! I'm rocking the apk posted by @runandhide05 in post #25.

So with S-Off someone might be able to figure out how to enable it?

My Verizon M7 had the fm radio app on it at least after s-off and flashing Viper One. Never tried it though so I can't tell you if it actually worked...

I had it on my VZ M7 that was S-Off with a custom rom. FM Radio would open but not tune any stations in.

This is what I'm using. . It works just fine. Asked for root access though. I don't know if it needs it or not. Either way it works, using it as I type this. . Just make sure you have your headphones plugged in as it uses it for the antenna

new AT&T stock radio

my friend got his ATT HTC Inspire few days ago.
i check the radio ID
its 12.28b.60.140eU-26.03.02.26M
i did a speedtest and it runs good.
anyway we can extract this radio and install on our rooted phone?
What do u mean by "good" speeds? Any number?

That radio appears in the desire hd radio thread, dated Oct 2010, i believe, unless in my quick reading I misread the number.

Did you have this radio prior to rooting? This the radio that is used during the downgrade process.
Its interesting how a nib phone would come with that radio

It is weird to be seeing such an old radio on NIB Inspires. As Scott_S said, that radio came out with the Desire HD back in October. I thought that Inspires were only shipping with 06.04.06 or 06.06.30...I wonder why people are starting to see that old 03.02.26 radio on new Inspires?

To be completely honest, I do not recall what it was before rooting, but I'm sure it was the same.
I haven't tried flashing radios due to my lack of research and not having a computer available when ever I would need it.

Well their is no definitive answers on radios as it varies on so many things. What's good for one person may not be for another. Personally I have. Gotten better speeds with the Ota's radio maybe becauase its made for our phones but thats just speculation on my part. I've haven't seen many people stay on your radio soon after rooting. I have seen a few people complain about it, then when they moved up to stock radio or Ota's, their varies issues were gone

Your sentence is a contradiction; if you don't recall what it was before rooting, how can you be sure it is the same now? Just messing with you but you are contradicting yourself a little bit there.
The rooting process MUST change the radio. All the current root exploits use a flaw in that radio to do their dirty work. That's the reason for the downgrade (and to a lesser extent, the kernel just because the exploits were compiled for its modules).

All right, let's expand on your answer... New in box from an ATT or other retail store selling new inspires, where your friend watched the CSR open the seal on the box, and put the SIM in?
Something doesn't seem right.
Nevertheless, it's not a "new" radio, so experimenting with it would be the same as any other radio "compatible" with this phone... YMMV.
There are *newer* radios out, so....

That's fine, and just for the record I'm not being skeptical just for the fun of it, I'm just trying to figure out the circumstances.
Now, you may have rooted the phone for him, and you may have noted the baseband/firmware versions before doing so, but that doesn't really answer the most important part of the question....
Exactly how your friend came into possession of this phone.
Until you say with certitude that "yes, it was purchased brand new from a retail store and my friend was the first person to ever touch the phone and he never attempted any modifications to the phone himself," then I still have a hard time determining the rationale of putting a Oct 2010 radio on a brand new from the factory inspire.
I bought mine March 3rd. Brand new, ATT retail store. Watched dude crack the factory seal, and take 400 off-contract dollars from me.
My radio was the stock radio commonly referred to as the "shipping stock" radio.
Why would an older radio than the one on my (at the time) brand new phone be put on one more recently manufactured?
It just doesn't make sense.
Anyway, as long as you're getting a level of performance that's acceptable, then I guess that's all that counts.
F u Henry!
I forgot to tell you guys, that when I got my phone, I jade a HTC wifi update then rooted my phone.

[Q] ROMs that include WiFi calling?

I'm more than likely going to a Nexus S today.
I'm curious - what ROMs are you familiar with that come "out of the box" with T-Mobile WIFI calling, or are known to have no known issues with it if installed after the fact?
Thanks so much!
None. The T-Mobile WiFi calling app requires support from T-Mobile. It can be ported by it requires a lot of work.
Maybe I'm confused then - I could have sworn at one point that it was included with CM7 - I could be completely wrong though!

It hasn't been forgotten, it's not available because the RIL on the Nexus S doesn't support the auth calls necessary to switch to GAN. Kineto blames Google for this. No other RILs from other Samsung devices work on the Nexus S either. Until we get a RIL that supports the necessary calls to switch to GAN it's not going to happen.

There is a rather long thread in the dev section, but that's really it. After kineto passed the buck an none of the new RILs from this current Gen of Samsung devices worked it was fairly evident we weren't getting much further until a working RIL comes with an OTA (unlikely given kinetos response) or a future device has a RIL that works on the Nexus S and supports wifi calling (not looking great either).

Sluggish WiFi? Try this:

If you're having trouble with WiFi becoming sluggish, it may be as simple as needing to delete your wifi data.
Navigate, in Root Explorer (or any capable of accessing /data) to /data/misc. Now, either delete the /data/misc/wifi folder entirely, or if you're being anal, you can rename it to something like 'backup_wifi'.
Reboot. On this startup, your phone will rebuild the wifi data, and if you're lucky, everything will be back up to speed. It helped out with my issues after flashing a few ROMs. Sometimes that stuff can get corrupted, as I can attest to with my HP Touchpad countless times. Once you're satisfied with the result, you can delete the old folder, if you chose to rename it instead of deleting it.
Anyways, post your results if you try it.
Weird how so many people are having bad WiFi and I'm not. It might be because I'm on the newest T-Mobile stock Rom.

Yes, it could be a solution cos at work with better WiFi router working on 802.11n my phone connects to it all the time without problem but at home my one I believe does not work on n so it may cause the WiFi issue.
However, I still think this is a software problem cos my old incredible s worked flawlessly both at work and home so the radio must playing a role here.

OK, quote myself, there might be something wrong with what I said about Radio and Wifi, there might be no connection between these two. I read some other forums someone suggested Radio has nothing to do with wifi....
Sorry for the confusion, could any one who is familiar with Radio in Android comment on this? If there is indeed no link between these two, we might need to think other things which cause the Wifi problem.
My bad, should have done more research rather than just pointing to Radio which appeared on top of my head when thinking about the problem.

I posted this because I want to know if others are able to fix their problems by using my fix method. 2 Pages of posts now and not a single person has bothered to say whether they tried my method, much less their results. Working hulu app?

Has anyone successfully gotten the hulu app to work on their one x? I've tried multiple modded versions that have worked in the past for me for my vivid and none of them are working on the one x. They just sit there buffering forever. Any ideas?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
So far I haven't found a solution. Everything I tested is the same buffering problem you said.
I am in the same boat. I have the international version of the 1x and I'm able to get hulu working. But I just purchased the AT&T 1x and it doesn't work. all it does is op stated just stays stuck buffering. I wonder what is different between both phones that will cause this
I actually get the error that my device isn't currently supported. I'm going to try to find a work-around via the browser and a modified version of the Adobe Flash apk I have lying around from my old days of doing this with my Captivate.
I have tried a few modded hulu .apk's as well with the same stuck buffering problem. I really would like to get my money's worth out of my Hulu + subscription.
Come on Hulu!
I sent them an email at [email protected] asking for device compatibility with the AT&T HTC One X (I made sure to call it that so there was no confusion as to what device I was referring to) and this is the BS reply I got.
Thanks for your email. Because Android phones and tablets each have a different set of specifications that we need to take into account, we're only able to support a select number of them at this point in time. While I don't have a time frame to share right now, we'll be adding new Android devices regularly.
Again, I'm sorry for the frustration. We're working hard to bring Hulu Plus to a wide variety of Android devices as soon as possible. Thanks for being patient with us in the meantime. If there's anything else I can address for you, please let me know.
Thanks,
Olivia

So, Hulu Plus can't support various devices, but Netflix can? My guess is that they have only one poor sod who is working on all the mobile apps. Regardless, please email [email protected] and tell them you want to see Hulu Plus on the AT&T HTC One X, I figure the more people emailing them the higher the chances are that we'll see the app released.
My reply was a little different. I'm hoping that they will add it soon as there are many HTC phones one the supported list.
"Giorgio M., May 08 07:33 am (PDT):
Hi Art,
Thanks for getting in touch with us, and thanks for the suggestion. We'd love to get Hulu Plus working on as many devices as possible, so while there's no update at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop up at some point. A lot of folks ask about adding the HTC One X to Hulu Plus, so we're certainly aware of the demand.
Before we can officially support it, we need to obtain a specific set of streaming rights, and we also need agreements in place with both our content partners and the device manufacturer itself – and these steps can take time. If or when support is announced, you'll see it listed at ( www.hulu.com/plus/devices ).
I hope this helps. If there's anything else I can address, please let me know.
Thanks, Giorgio M. Hulu Support"

I might add that I'm stock, un-rooted, bootloader locked (for now at least)
There is an update today that works on the HOX.
Note: if you have AdAway installed you need to disable ad blocking and reboot or you'll get an error.
Edit: Argh, spoke too soon. Got it to work once and not since then. Some reviews in the App market suggest it does work, though. I suspect it's blocking rooted devices.

Yes I can confirm that this works on my unrooted, stock AT&T One X with the new update. I can finally watch Hulu on my phone instead of my Xbox :victory:
Must be checking the bootloader because temp unrooting with OTA Rootkeeper doesn't work either.

Netflix doesn't bother with this bull. Hopefully a dev can work some magic on this one
Edit- Maybe it's a rom version error. Any rooted user on a 1.85 base rom able to stream? I'm on CleanRom which uses a 1.88 base.

[Q] No Voice Dialer with ICS

So the first thing I noticed is that for some reason, there is no more Voice Dialer after the ICS OTA. Bummer since I use this all the time in my car.
I called HTC and they told me that they are looking to fix this but in their original ICS, that feature was still there. That leads me to believe that the carrier (thanks T-Mobile!), for some reason, got rid of it. Maybe it was one of the issues that kept them from pushing out the OTA.
At any rate, HTC said they are working on it (I guess with the carrier) to issue a fix for it. For the time being, they suggest Vlingo.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
This was a huge fail in my mind on the update.
So I started trying out all of the various ROMs... and come to find out, the ones that have bluetooth voice dialing dont have support for WiFi Calling... those that support WiFi Calling dont even allow a Bluetooth headset to connect...
Makes me believe that there is more than meets the eye on ICS and WiFi Calling...

Already confirmed with HTC that it was taken away with the T-Mo OTA push. It's a known issue. Not sure if it's happening only on SOME devices though and you just got lucky...
Are you on TMo?

Yes, I'm on T-Mobile. People are also reporting not having face unlock, but I have that also, and it is working.

I don't have any of those problems. Bluetooth and voice dialing work just fine on mine and I use wifi calling 98% of the time.
make sure you guys get compensated from HTC or Tmobile, when you get a driving violation for physically dialing.

Hmmm, that's really strange...especially because HTC themselves said it was a known issue......haven't asked TMob yet though. Maybe I should...
In any case I know I'm not the only one without the default Voice Dialer that worked so well under GB.
Currently using Vlingo but not as easy to use as the old Voice Dialer...*sigh*...

Hi masondoctorjt!
Do you think it's possible for you to get the Voice Dialer off of your phone and either post it (to help people like me) or somehow send it to me? I'd like to try it and see if if works on my phone.
Thanks much!
T-Mobile USA was made aware of the issue and has confirmed the T-Mobile ICS update removes BT voice dialing and they are in discussions with HTC over this issue.

I am sorry for not responding. Just finally came back to this thread today. I am now using elegencia tmous ROM and I no longer have the suck tmous ROM. Also I must be thinking if something different. I thought you meant that you press the Mic on the call screen and say the numbers you want to dial, which I had/have. But apparently you guys are talking about something else.
