I'm more than likely going to a Nexus S today.
I'm curious - what ROMs are you familiar with that come "out of the box" with T-Mobile WIFI calling, or are known to have no known issues with it if installed after the fact?
Thanks so much!
None. The T-Mobile WiFi calling app requires support from T-Mobile. It can be ported by it requires a lot of work.
Maybe I'm confused then - I could have sworn at one point that it was included with CM7 - I could be completely wrong though!

I could tell lol. But yeah porting it requires doing libs and things like that. Wondering why we haven't seen WiFi calling ported over. Kind of forgot about it, I guess.

It hasn't been forgotten, it's not available because the RIL on the Nexus S doesn't support the auth calls necessary to switch to GAN. Kineto blames Google for this. No other RILs from other Samsung devices work on the Nexus S either. Until we get a RIL that supports the necessary calls to switch to GAN it's not going to happen.

There is a rather long thread in the dev section, but that's really it. After kineto passed the buck an none of the new RILs from this current Gen of Samsung devices worked it was fairly evident we weren't getting much further until a working RIL comes with an OTA (unlikely given kinetos response) or a future device has a RIL that works on the Nexus S and supports wifi calling (not looking great either).

I posted this in two other threads but both got ignored.
As soon as I updated to the 2.3.5, tethering seems to be no longer supported. The option is there, but as soon as I activate the tether, 3G goes away. I have to turn off the tether, then manually switch mobile data off and on just for my 3G to come back.
Is this their way of getting people to finally pay for it?
Yes.. one of the features of the update was removing tether if you were not paying for it. No biggie though... you have a Nexus.. just unlock it and download one of the apps off the market.

Since my phone had none of the reception issues this update was supposed to fix & reading alot of posts saying that it really didn't do much for those issues, I think I'll skip the update prompts & keep my free tethering.

Are we sure they removed tether and didn't just break it? Is it in the release notes somewhere?

I am a little confused why Google allowed sprint to do this. Whether you you use the tether or not and regardless of how easy it is to get it back it doesn't sit well with me that Sprint is calling the shots with this phone now. One of the major appeals of this phone is the pure Google experience, which is now the partial Google experience. I wonder if this had anything to do with the delay of the OTA, maybe sprint was holding out until google let them kill the tether? Anyways, it doesn't instill a great amount of confidence in google for this phone and future nexus devices. I still like the phone and there is nothing on sprint I would rather have, I'm just a little pissed at how they tucked this into an update that was much anticipated and stripped some of our "pure googleness".
I don't understand this...i dont pay anything extra for tether, and i can still tether on stock 2.3.5. Why are some people unable?
i just flashed the new KE5 radio(found in the ns4g dev section), and im not seeing any issues. still on 2.3.4 tho.. i dont see any reasons to update to 2.3.5 especially if this is a problem. i tether wayyyy too much.

So I have a two day new Nexus S and I did the manual update last night. Now when activating the mobile hotspot the 3g or 4g icons go away and it does not have connectivity anymore.
Now, I have read conflicting info about whether this is happening just to those who did the manual update and if you did OTA it still works. Can anyone confirm this?
If that is the case, then I need to return this one and get another and just be more patient next time to get the update officially OTA. =)
Not that I am tremendously worried about the tethering/hotspot being free, but I am uneasy that doing this manually may have screwed things up in as of yet other unknown ways. Like if I do pay for hotspot/tethering someday it might still not work right, etc.
Thanks!

Did you manually update or did you wait for it to be pushed to your phone? I'm stock and wasn't rooted and I manually updated and my tethering both usb and wifi hotspots are not working.
Also I notice in the kernel version that it's longer than when I was on 2.3.4 mine says 2.6.35.7-g3cc95e3 [email protected] #1
Is that normal?

So the first thing I noticed is that for some reason, there is no more Voice Dialer after the ICS OTA. Bummer since I use this all the time in my car.
I called HTC and they told me that they are looking to fix this but in their original ICS, that feature was still there. That leads me to believe that the carrier (thanks T-Mobile!), for some reason, got rid of it. Maybe it was one of the issues that kept them from pushing out the OTA.
At any rate, HTC said they are working on it (I guess with the carrier) to issue a fix for it. For the time being, they suggest Vlingo.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
This was a huge fail in my mind on the update.
So I started trying out all of the various ROMs... and come to find out, the ones that have bluetooth voice dialing dont have support for WiFi Calling... those that support WiFi Calling dont even allow a Bluetooth headset to connect...
Makes me believe that there is more than meets the eye on ICS and WiFi Calling...

Do you think it's possible for you to get the Voice Dialer off of your phone and either post it (to help people like me) or somehow send it to me? I'd like to try it and see if if works on my phone.

No still not because version's VOICE network is CDMA and if they don't have your ESN in their database you can't connect. Simple as that.
The methods of doing that is similar to those of flashing Sprint phone to boost mobile. But I think it's illegal and can't be discused in xda as it requires modifing imei/esn.

no, it has nothing to do with that.
verizon keeps a list of all the allowed ESN/IMEI numbers and will not let a number on their network that is not in their list.
I think he meant modifying the esn to match one in their database, which would be illegal. This thread should be closed.
I've seen some photos and heard some rumors that Verison will be carrying an official branded Nexus7 (boy, do I mean branded) sometime this year. Hopefully the 5 will follow

Because they partnered with tunein radio and want you to use your data....vzw wants $$ for their shareholders.
Honestly, if Microsoft did something like this on a windows machine it would be grounds for another antitrust lawsuit. I'm just waiting to hear Verizon gets sued for this at some point.

they don't remove it, they just have the mfg disable the hardware. they used to allow it (I have an old VZW Moto Droid X with FM radio) but somehwere along the line they made a policy decision to not provide FM radio feature anymore.
Edit: hereby retracted -- VZW left the hardware connected in the M8!! I'm rocking the apk posted by @runandhide05 in post #25.

That is not something that anybody has been able to duplicate. You can simply use Google Hangouts but unfortunately it will be with another number. THe N6 is supposed to have it with an update sometime next year. I read that somewhere.
Remember that is a stock T-Mobile function
It wont happen. Unless T-Mobile puts out a wifi calling app to the play store. In the Nexus 4 forum there was a bounty of like $3,000 to get it working and they never did. I've read that Lollipop has made it easier to implement so hopefully an app gets released in the future.
Yes I know that it's a stocked function on T-Mobile phones. Many stock functions have been ported, reconfigured, tricked and used on other phones. This is XDA all we need is someone with the "know-how". I'm pretty sure its not a hardware issue therefore it is fair game. I seen a thread were we can configure more base bands to get more signals!!! This definitely falls in that genre of work.

If it were that easy it would of been done a long time ago. The issue was T-Mobile had no AOSP phones with wifi calling already in it. This was more than like the issue with porting it over. But now when the N6 gets wifi calling or wifi unleashed as it called we should then see some port attempts
