Does the stock messaging app have the secure box in it? To hide my sms.. I use the HTC One X and it had it.. Can someone please confirm it
Don't see that. also can't expand sms notifications to reply either
Ahh what kind of crap is this? Don't know if it's sense 6 or Verizon variant? On sense 5.5 i had this feature as well as sense 4+. I just figured it was on there but didn't look for it. If you go to phone app there is blocked callers but nothing for blocking text messages, WTF?!?

Best integrated feature and don't see why they would take it away but still integrate blocked calling feature? Stupid. Know any third party apps that work with KitKat 4.4.2 for this?
So did Verizon take this feature out or maybe in the software update that brings us the Power Save modes we will get this feature back?
On the HTC site it shows it's still possible on the M8, http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/howto/464987.html

Not a solution, but a workaround would be to install Who Are You from the Play Store. You can block calls and texts using it.

I am not talking about blocking people. I want to hide some sms that I receive. The HTC ONE M7 had this feature and the HTC ONE X had it as well in the messaging app. So my question is does the verizon HTC ONE M8 have this feature?
Can you confirm following the steps in the support link ?

If you are really worried about hiding text messages, look for an app called Vegas SMS. This is the best program out there to hide text messages.

Made a thread on the Intl M8 forum trying to get someone over there to check. Will at least confirm if HTC said screw it you don't need this feature or Verizon/US Carriers (once other carriers get this device in hand to see) said screw it you don't need this feature. HTC says the M8 has this feature. Unless they are wrong or again only on the Intl version or maybe just latest Firmware since ours is so old and don't even have the simple Power Save mode yet. Geez my Sense 4+ had Power Save mode. http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/howto/464986.html

Exactly! Always had this feature even on Sense 5.5 with Android 4.2.2 on my HTC One X+ device. Seems odd Sense 6.0 would take the feature out and leave in the block call feature???
Third party apps never work as well as fully integrated features IMO. Sure they can work for the most part, only takes that one time though it doesn't work to ruin it all, lol!

Long press a message you only get options for Delete, Call, Open Contact. That's it! If you go into a text conversation window you can lock a message by tapping it and shows a lock symbol. Doesn't hide the message at all, think all this does is prevent message from being deleted.
Well looks like there is hope people!!! Straight from the HTC website it provides it (see link above) and also just got confirmation from an international unbranded HTC M8 user!
1.54.401.5 and yeah, stock unbranded international.
So i guess we then have to wait for either:
A. Verizon push us an OTA update with latest firmware 1.54.401.5
B. We have to wait for S-Off and then we can update on our own to firmware 1.54.401.5 and have it along with a world of opportunities?!?:fingers-crossed:
Just tested out the block caller feature that we still do have built into the stock dialer app. This feature is useless, try it! I blocked a phone number. Then had that phone call my phone, after 2 rings goes to voicemail, i left a voicemail. Now my phone vibrates telling me i have a new voicemail and also displays an icon on the notification bar with a person and a lock next to them. I pull down notifications and says tap to stop call forwarding or slide to dismiss.
So basically if you want someone to not call you you're SOL! They can still leave you a voicemail and the phone shows you right away that someone you didn't want to call just called. Gotta love the privacy here, WTF?!?
Really miss iPhone here with iBlacklist. The only app that got it right all the time! Would not let people leave a VM, would just make a busy tone if they called. Above that would save their texts they tried sending you inside the iBlacklist app itself if you cared to read them or just delete them. This device has no options like this and seems nothing on the market is compatible with kit kat 4.4.2?

Check out Who Are You. It pairs best with YouMail, but it's not required. I use them both and once I ditch a call, it doesn't just hang up on them. It plays the Verizon Wireless number disconnected message and then hang up.

Does it block text too? Seems nothing blocks text in kit Kat 4.4.2 and HTC phones have issues not blocking calls instead sending them to VM.

Can any one advise this as its not listen in the 3G Specs..
By default no, but there has been talks about possibly getting it to work and a lot of people have success getting Line2 (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.toktumi.line2&feature=search_result) to work on it but requires you to even find the APK somewhere or download it on another android phone and copy the APK file off it.
I am looking for a core 2 Andriod 3.0 with at least a 7.1 or 10.1 screen...
Have to be able to make call.
Any recommendations..
I don't think you're going to find that anywhere.
Good luck with that, last I checked there were no tablets out there (at least in terms of Android 3.0+) that will allow you to make phone calls with them unless you use Skype (or mod it to allow making phone calls nativity.
I have heard that Samsung Galaxy Tab does allow you to make phone calls but I haven't tested myself and don't know if the newer Tab 10.1 (not sure if it's out yet or not) will support the phone features either since the Tab 10.1 will have 3.0.
I'm sure other members on this forums will step in to correct me if I'm wrong at anything I've said here but this is what I've saw so far.
I had some limited success with nettalk and my Google Talk phone number. Could connect with my home phone but my husband said it was very echo-y. I'm wifi only so it can be done. I'm going to try Line 2.

you have to be logged out of Google talk on your xoom. Also, make sure that in your gv settings you have it set to google chat rather than your mobile number. Not sure if that made any sense, but they explain it step by step in the help section.
is that video calling or just voice?

How can I get the google chat to show up rather then the mobile number because I do not have that option. The only options I see are my mobile number and add this phone, nothing else. Not really sure. When I go to google voice on my browser and then click on the setting tab in upper right corner and then choose voice settings, I can then click on the phones tab, that is where I am able to choose google chat.

Dang... I just remembered a long time ago I deleted the google chat from my registered phones list because I didn't think I would ever need to use it. So that would mean I would have to add it back, but... yeah. If I try to add another phone it gives me the name to choose and I need to set a number for it, and I have no idea what the number would be for google chat. Thanks for the quick responses though! I'll try and figure out what to do next. And I have 2 nice bluetooth headsets and they do work great!

The legacy Galaxy Tab does let you use a GSM sim card and allow one to make phone calls as well as access EDGE/3G data...i helped a friend set up his tab a couple of weeks ago and can confirm this....im located in Mumbai, India...and the versions available here do allow the ability to also use it as a phone..

i believe its the kernel that is stopping it from possible.
at the momenet, honeycomb is designed to be a tablet OS, hence it didn't include the Phone's feature in the system.
for galaxy tab, (the older one), it running on Gingerbread which a Phone OS, hence it can be easily enable the phone feature.
i believe we need to wait till Ice Cream where it unite Gingerbread and Honeycomb, so that it has the phone's feature in the system and can be enabled easily.
Hey All
Just thought I'd add to this old topic. I have an Australian 3G Xoom, on the American 3.1 update, with my settings pushed back for 3G etc.
Tonight I installed the UAString/SMS mod, so that I could send SMSes (which work perfectly with Handcent, over the Telstra 3G network - just like any mobile phone would do). Then I tried calling my tablet. This also worked perfectly! The call came up, it connected, etc. I answered and this is where we hit trouble. No sound. Either way. So the Xoom doesn't have a microphone/speaker set up for sound during a call. I even tried setting the Xoom on speaker phone, but still nothing.
Any ideas? Not sure if this has been posted about before, and I thought it was pretty exciting, to be making normal calls, and SMSes (there is all this talk about Google Voice, which is useless outside of the US) on the Xoom, and this was very exciting for me.

And tell them to get Android. Make fun of them. Show the beautiful widgets. Then tell them to show you a beautiful weather animation on their homescreen. In they pull down the Android rip off pull down tell them it's weak, full screen. It should be easy, you know. On your little dinky screen.

Trust me. I've done literally everything you just listed. I've been an Apple user since the first gen Iphone up until the Iphone 4. Whatapp does work but the Apple user has to download it as well. I'm trying to see if I can connect with their native group text. I guess that's impossible at this point since we cant cross platforms yet. Similar to BBM on blackberries. If there is anyone with any ideas, please share.
Currently we are using Voxer which is pretty neat. However, the iphone user still needs to download it.

I'm currently trying NinjaSMS. Hangouts didn't work for my phone. I couldn't send or receive MMS which appears to be a known problem with a few phones. In addition, the 8sms app which was suggest to me also didn't work. It broke up their iphone group text to an indiviual text from each person. Therefore I still had to reply individually to everyone in the group. I'll let you know if NinjaSMS works for me.
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if you all could help me out. I have installed the 7/22 build of jellybean and I send quite a bit of text messages. The problem is, I send a lot at one time and in JB, it stops me after I've send about 4 messages within a minute or two to the same person, asking me to allow this to happen. If I don't say allow, the text message will not send. By text message, I do mean sms to be specific. I searched through settings and found nothing to stop this message from popping up. I love the stock messaging app and I don't want to have to give it up unless there is no way around this. Does this happen to you and if so does anyone know a way around it? Thanks

I'm currently trying to recreate the issue. It's happened several times with normal text messaging to my girlfriend. It basically tells me that I've sent a lot of sms messages in a short period of time. A prompt comes up telling me that after I hit send. In order for the message to send I have to say "allow" in the prompt. The other option is, of course, "deny". This is an android OS prompt, not a superuser prompt. I can't seem to recreate it at the moment with google voice as my contact, but I'm sure it will happen again tomorrow when I'm texting my girlfriend and I will screen capture it, unless anyone knows what this is and how to disable it of course.

Oh, weird, I've never gotten that or even heard that function existed. I bet someone could pretty easily hack the messaging app to remove that limitation. It seems like a valid security feature though to prevent any app from mass texting. Maybe you should just write longer messages, haha.

Yeah, I am having the same problem on my HTC Inspire 4G running unofficial CM10 called JellyTime by randomblame ported to my phone. The easiest way to avoid this would be to get a second texting app and bounce back and fourth between the 2 apps. I was running Go SMS Pro and got the same prompt. So that's the best way I can think of to avoid the prompt for the time being.
Ever get one of those "You just won a $1,000 shopping spree at Best Buy" messages?
That's what this is supposed to prevent from happening to you, so your phone doesn't text random people who aren't even in your contact list.
I would say... put up with it. Eventually the mass SMS spammers will get the hint and they'll stop, at which point someone at Google will lift the limit, unless an app dev fixes the apk itself, at which point you'll have to manually monitor outgoing messages.
Edit: I wonder if someone has tried taking the messaging apk from gapps 4/29 and put it in the gapps 7/26 package? Would be a sensible attempt at avoiding the security block, but not sure if it would negate the security feature itself...
Actually, there is an app for rooted users that I found while using the search feature, called BAMF SMS fix. Check it out. Unfortunately I no longer have the link to the file, but I still have the file itself. PM me if you need the file. It is a flashable .zip

Hey, I recently released an app to Google Play and was wondering if you guys could help me out to test it and to give me feedback!
The app is called Sms Replier and it's a tool that can be used to send texts to people who call you while you're unable to get to your phone to answer(while you're in an exam, or playing a game of soccer, etc.). I know this idea has been done before, but I want to know whether you think it's worth it for me to keep working on it so as to add features which have not been done in any other app. Please let me know how well it performs/what things I should change about it, and please rate it on Google Play!
I am excited to get some real criticism from android users so that I can continue to make this app what I originally set out for it to be!
The app is completely free! Thank you in advance.
I like it! Simple, but I would love a widget.

Hey, I recently released an app to Google Play and was wondering if you guys could help me out to test it and to give me feedback!
The app is called Sms Replier(Google Play: id=sciencefair.automatictexter) and it's a tool that can be used to send texts to people who call you while you're unable to get to your phone to answer(while you're in an exam, or playing a game of soccer, etc.).
The app is completely free and has no ads! Thank you in advance.

You're very welcome!
Hey. Can the app send sms at a specific time? For example set it to send an sms to a contact at 2pm and when the clock becomes 2pm it sends the sms. Cz I'm looking for such a feature.
Also it would be great if the above could work on whatsapp too. Thanks

I could include that feature with relative ease, but it currently doesn't do that since I was aiming at making an app that helps you when you don't have access to your phone

Well I wouldn't have my phone at that time that's why it sends the sms for me
Anyways its just a thought

True... I'll probably include that in the next version. Thanks a lot for the idea dude!

May I know what is different with template in sms?
Congratulations, you made it to the portal!
For the app, great work, simple and light. Will buy the donate version when it comes out, meanwhile following this thread. Cheers

Try SMS scheduler from the play store

it works ace!
what would be good is to have either a widget to toggle on / off, permanent notification to enable access to the menu, or an idle / activity monitor like if phone left idle for x minutes then enable it; as soon as there's human activity then de-activate it (could be linked to the auto screen dim/off).
A very nice app, very useful for businesses. Out Of Office Reply
A great start! I would also like to add some suggestions (some may be repeats).
1. Widgets that you can add to turn on and off selected notifications.
2. Auto respond based on a pre-determined schedule.
3. Auto start on startup option (for scheduled events).
4. # appears over icon to notify user how many messages were replied to while away (like mail or missed call icon).
Keep up the great work!

Great app very helpful while driving especially. Would be nice if you could add some features to even reply to text messages automatically. Something similar to auto reply feature in GoSMS.
great work.

as bigdog said those are very essential to complete this app.
first time i installed the app.. i was really surprised to see its simplicity really awesome
i would like to add some suggestions and doubts from mine sides too even though they may be repeated
some brainstorming got me to bring up these elements
1. sometimes there can just be miss calls.. you can add up timer like (send sms before ringer, on one ring, on two rings, or like if didnt pick the call at all will send an sms)
2. a status bar indicating that the sms replier with number of sms sent. [a widget would also be helpful]
3. then you can add some templates or profiles like driving, in class or let users create their profiles or templates.
4. there is one more thing that u can get access of contacts and just disconnect the unknown numbers[ofcourse getting the notification with number at our end] and donot sent them a reply in order to maintain the privacy and not let the unknown numbers know what you are upto.
5. and if i may add a option.. a counter to be set to ring if a same person is trying to call for more than two three times or in case of emergency
i will add more when it comes ...
Would be great if it could work on whatsapp!
The difference is that you don't need to click the template to send it when you're receiving the call. It sends automatically when a missed call is recorded. Sorry to assume, but it doesn't seem like you actually tried using the app at all.

@saredev, does your app have feature that can exclude certain numbers from auto responding but they are in the contacts list. For example, notifications banks or credit card companies. These companies don't need to receive auto-response. I think you might have to check the number when it arrives whether it's a phone number or shortcode before auto-response. Or include a list of numbers from auto-response.

I'm currently working on adding in a quick-toggle widget. We'll see how it turns out. Thanks a lot for the feedback! :good:

Is there a stock, HTC Emergency Alerts app? Can anyone provide an apk, as Verizon has stiffed me on this one. I get amber alerts but other than a subject line, cannot review them. Can the volume be managed say on a time schedule? Please don't debate me on the necessity of this. I will find a way to turn them off if I can't manage it. I am rooted.
If I do a Google image search for "htc one m8 emergency alerts app" I can see an Emergency Alerts app with orange triangle with ! icon. My Verizon M8 doesn't have this, and yet Verizon's site says to manage Emergency Alerts, go to apps.. Emergency Alerts.... When amber alerts come in, besides scarying me out of my chair, waking my precious baby, or just confusing me in my sleep, I have no idea what happened, after I manage to make it stop. I cannot review them after I've collected my thoughts. I have seen the most recent one in the recent apps list under Messages, yet there is no setting under the messaging app to affect or review them.
Can anyone with a Verizon M8 confirm they are missing the app as well? I don't understand why Verizon's site explains how to configure the app for the M8, yet the app is missing on my phone, at least. Perhaps I should have asked for the apk in the general M8 forum?
Mine is working by default. Have received amber alert, tornado warning, and flash flood warning with no configuration on my part. Stock rooted Verizon M8.
Wife's is working too, full stock, no root.

Mine works, too, but I can't configure it without the app. Do you have the "Emergency Alerts" app with Orange triangle icon? Verizon says it's there.
I'm hoping to be able to choose/disable alerts.
When alerts come in on my phone, I see them in a "Messages" window, but I cannot view the alert (2 amber alerts so far)
Checking now, will report back.
---------- Post added at 06:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 AM ----------
I don't have that, but as far as I know the settings for the Emergency Alerts should be under the Messages app settings (text message default app). I do not have the option now, but I think I did previously. Will keep looking into it.

I don't have any options in the messages app either. I found mention of this for other phones, but don't think that applies to the M8.

Sprint lists that as the way for its M8. T-Mobile lists the same as Verizon, going into Emergency Alerts app. I can't find any other info and haven't found anything in the phone yet.
I have it. Although I am using the messages apk from the international variant. I'm most certain that it is part of the messages apk.

So you have a shortcut for event alerts in app drawer, but it is a subsection of the messages app's settings when opened?

It's also in the android manifest of the messages apk.

I knew the alerts were being displayed in the messages app, at least once viewing the alert. So we're talking a difference in messages apk between carrier phones? This is what gives you the settings... Where'd the app drawer entry come from? Is there an additional system app?
I saw CDMA somewhere in your output. Does that suggest something is incompatible with the Verizon phones or maybe just it is on such hardware? I don't expect answers to all Qs, just getting frustrated at all if the features Verizon removes from our phones.

Yes there is a difference in the mms app between carriers. Vzw has ripped out a ton of features verses the international one. In fact I have a thread showing all the features removed. And how to get all of them back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729137
The app drawer icon is from the mms apk I'm using from the international variant. It has that and serveal other things and that's why i am using it.
It refers to cmda because that is the type of phone therefore the type of messages received. All emergency messages are both cmda and gsm. So they are able to be received on any type of phone/carrier.
Note: using the mms apk I currently have you do lose the vvm integration however I don't use it there for I don't care

Aw man, why are you so special? Did it come with the phone? Did you get your phone early on or more recently? I got my phone in the first few days of release and am running stock, rooted rom.
Sorry djakrse, I too have it on my (mostly) stock rooted unlocked VZW M8. I got mine within a couple of weeks of release. The only mod I've made was disabling a few things through TiBu, which then makes them invisible in the app drawer. You haven't done that to this by accident, have you?
(got a tornado warning this past weekend that was especially scary considering the weather outside at the time)
I got mine April 26 from a Verizon store. Haven't disabled anything, rooted, and installed extreme power save mod. Not listed anywhere for me but I receive the alerts.

Lol you guys are killing me. That's a great suggestion to check. I'd considered doing that initially, until I heard it prevented OTA updates from installing.
I'm starting to wonder if the fact i use a 3rd party SMS app has anything to do with it. Any of you guys with the Emergency Alerts icon also using something other than the stock messenger app?
Sent from my Tapatalk-abusing M8
I got two of these on the BOGO back in May for mothers day... My mom's is bone stock and has it I checked last night when I visited for dinner... I'm on stock Rom rooted with tibu, xposed, and checkm8 kernel but we've both had it since day one... I've tried changing to third party messaging apps a few times and always still had emergency alerts but I am using the stock messaging app again
Edit: just checked the receipt April 25th I bought the two phones...
