Hey everyone,
I was wondering if you all could help me out. I have installed the 7/22 build of jellybean and I send quite a bit of text messages. The problem is, I send a lot at one time and in JB, it stops me after I've send about 4 messages within a minute or two to the same person, asking me to allow this to happen. If I don't say allow, the text message will not send. By text message, I do mean sms to be specific. I searched through settings and found nothing to stop this message from popping up. I love the stock messaging app and I don't want to have to give it up unless there is no way around this. Does this happen to you and if so does anyone know a way around it? Thanks
hey i am running the 7-22 and gapps 7-19
i just sent 5-6 texts to my fb status update system and they all went through with no errors and they were sms messages
also i am having no problems receiving mms

I'm currently trying to recreate the issue. It's happened several times with normal text messaging to my girlfriend. It basically tells me that I've sent a lot of sms messages in a short period of time. A prompt comes up telling me that after I hit send. In order for the message to send I have to say "allow" in the prompt. The other option is, of course, "deny". This is an android OS prompt, not a superuser prompt. I can't seem to recreate it at the moment with google voice as my contact, but I'm sure it will happen again tomorrow when I'm texting my girlfriend and I will screen capture it, unless anyone knows what this is and how to disable it of course.
Is this the SMS to mms conversion count?

After some very specific searching, I found one topic in the GNex forums about the issue. It seems to be security for SMS bombing apps. Kind of a bummer for me. I hope this is disabled in the future or toggled somewhere. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1742226.html

Oh, weird, I've never gotten that or even heard that function existed. I bet someone could pretty easily hack the messaging app to remove that limitation. It seems like a valid security feature though to prevent any app from mass texting. Maybe you should just write longer messages, haha.

Yeah, I am having the same problem on my HTC Inspire 4G running unofficial CM10 called JellyTime by randomblame ported to my phone. The easiest way to avoid this would be to get a second texting app and bounce back and fourth between the 2 apps. I was running Go SMS Pro and got the same prompt. So that's the best way I can think of to avoid the prompt for the time being.
Ever get one of those "You just won a $1,000 shopping spree at Best Buy" messages?
That's what this is supposed to prevent from happening to you, so your phone doesn't text random people who aren't even in your contact list.
I would say... put up with it. Eventually the mass SMS spammers will get the hint and they'll stop, at which point someone at Google will lift the limit, unless an app dev fixes the apk itself, at which point you'll have to manually monitor outgoing messages.
Edit: I wonder if someone has tried taking the messaging apk from gapps 4/29 and put it in the gapps 7/26 package? Would be a sensible attempt at avoiding the security block, but not sure if it would negate the security feature itself...
Actually, there is an app for rooted users that I found while using the search feature, called BAMF SMS fix. Check it out. Unfortunately I no longer have the link to the file, but I still have the file itself. PM me if you need the file. It is a flashable .zip

Whatsapp.. That should work. Dunno. Don't use official texting. Whatsapp should work though.
And tell them to get Android. Make fun of them. Show the beautiful widgets. Then tell them to show you a beautiful weather animation on their homescreen. In they pull down the Android rip off pull down tell them it's weak, full screen. It should be easy, you know. On your little dinky screen.

Trust me. I've done literally everything you just listed. I've been an Apple user since the first gen Iphone up until the Iphone 4. Whatapp does work but the Apple user has to download it as well. I'm trying to see if I can connect with their native group text. I guess that's impossible at this point since we cant cross platforms yet. Similar to BBM on blackberries. If there is anyone with any ideas, please share.
Currently we are using Voxer which is pretty neat. However, the iphone user still needs to download it.

I'm looking for the same solution. Does anyone know of an app that allows android phones to see iphone group chats as group chats rather than breaking everything down into individual text messages that way we can do a reply all rather than having to send the same message to everyone that is in the group? Thanks.
There's plenty of apps that do this. 8sms is my favorite.

I'm currently trying NinjaSMS. Hangouts didn't work for my phone. I couldn't send or receive MMS which appears to be a known problem with a few phones. In addition, the 8sms app which was suggest to me also didn't work. It broke up their iphone group text to an indiviual text from each person. Therefore I still had to reply individually to everyone in the group. I'll let you know if NinjaSMS works for me.

Have just searched and installed official XDA app within the UK:
As a long time user of XDA, it's great value at just 79p (£0.79)
Same here. Also everytime I open the app it asks if I want to receive push notifications. Doesn't matter what my settings are, it always asks when opening. And while we're at it, when is this app going to get a BADLY needed update?

Dammit... I guess it's a server-side issue then. For a long time, it was the only app I used the toast notifications for (I typically get several PMs every day now, and it was very handy to get a notification and preview of them without needing to check the website).
Oh well... anybody know who might be responsible for this, and could possible get it working again? Aside from lacking the notifications, the app is great.
The WP7 app was written by someone from http://www.pocketpc.ch/forum/ but I can't find any reference or app thread on that forum The only one thing I've found: official app is a special version of Board Express application, you may try Board Express forum: http://www.board-express.com/forum/index.php
Hello,
Me and my gf used to chat a lot using whatsapp (she has an iphone)..i finally persuaded her to change to android but she wants the threads as she has them on her phone..i have tried everything and since you cant restore within different platforms the only good way i thought is if we did a "replay" of what we have sent by looking from the chat history from email..bit extreme but no other way..
The only problem is that the app doesnt let us use the time we wish (from system) because maybe it uses time from the web! Or maybe we can alter the time afterwards ..Any ideas??

Not sure if there is any easier way but Whatsapp Xtract could be the answer since it support WA message extraction, you can get it here.
If you know some programming skill you can just play with the sqlite database, another way would be write some script to mass change the time on the chat history/email.
Good luck!
By the way, you probably want to change your title to include [Q] so that people know you are asking a question.

Have you tried Whatsapp Xtract? Well if you are talking about changing the date on email then a simple php script would do by mass converting the date.
But what can i see from the message history sent to email is that they have 'year' info skipped, so not sure what happen to messages sent/rcvd before current year, does it have year info? well, only if you have one sent/rcvd before 2012.
If only about changing the date on email maybe i can help, just give me some picture on how it looks like now and how it supposed to be.

Yes I have looked into this program..it all started from me wanting to export whatsapp chat into android from iphone! Then when I saw I cant do that I thought I could send my chat from scratch and change the date..but then again the app doesnt let you operate if you use incorrect time.BUT one thing I never thought is one simple and better solution: Why dont I avoid this app and its limitations and import my chat conversation from email to SMS with sms to text!! :thumbup:I will combine my sms and my whatsapp into one thread and job done! GOOD THING ANDROID SMS IS SO VERSATILE! .txt .csv. xls you name it. So happy right now thanx for your feedback anyway

I'm not referring to the groupMe app, because they'd also have to install that.
I've tried Go SMS, pansi SMS, chomp SMS, and they don't seem to do it perfectly.
When I receive a group text from an iphone user, I want it to make a new thread with all members of the group text, where I can seamlessly respond to all users. Moreover, the stock app does this in a way that my response is not received as a group text on their end, but simply a message to them (as well as whoever else was in the group). Thus, the response goes into our 1v1 chat thread.
All I want is a plugin, rom, app, anything that solves this ridiculously frustrating issue.
I'd like to know as well. I have not been able to find an easy way to do it. I'm guessing it's Apple hating on us Android folks.
GoSMS does it very well, subject to a few limitations, not sure why it is not working for you. A couple of things to keep in mind.
1) The proper threading is not native but is run after the fact. This requires that the message be fully downloaded before it is properly threaded. This can take 10-15 seconds, if you open the message during that time it will not thread correctly.
2) Unfortunately the app will notify you twice, once the original message is received, and once it is recategorized. I handle this by shutting of sound and vibration in the app and using Tasker instead. If two notifications arrive within 15 secs Tasker just ignores the second one.
From what I have been told Handcent will do something similar
The GoSMS / Handcent implementations are ****. Sorry, but they are.
I've heard tell that Android finally put native group SMS / MMS into Android 4.2, which will likely never come to our phone officially but hopefully we'll get some of the benefit at least as things trickle down in the development community.
I'm also trying to find a solution to this too and I'm always hoping that every update of Go Sms and Handcent fixes this feature. Like one of the previous replies above stated, GO SMS will give you double notifications. It's annoying because it slows down your phone if you get too many all at once.
I've found that Handcent works better than GO SMS because it only notifies you after the message has been downloaded and you don't get double notifications. However, it's still flawed because sometimes your messages hang and dont download properly unless you physically click download. Also, sometimes when you're sending a text and try to hit send, it looks like it sends but just disappears. If you wrote a long message, you would have to re-type it all over again and hope it sends correctly the second time.
If you install CM 10.1 (android 4.2.2), this group messaging feature is baked into the rom. This is probably the best experience I've had to get the group messaging to work. It works like how an iphone user would see it. However, CM 10.1 still has some minor glitches that made me temporarily go back to sense roms. With every nightly, things seem to be getting better though. I will probably try it again in a couple weeks.
Currently I'm back on Viper using Handcent.

I've successfully run a CM10.1 mms.apk in CM10, but I've never tried this with Sense. Do you know what ROM that mms.apk file you have is actually from? I know CM10.1's mms.apk is compiled to require a minimum of JB 4.1, but versions from other JB 4.2 ROMs might have possibly been compiled to require JB 4.2
FWIW: mms.apk file is normally located in the /system/app folder, which requires root permissions to move a file to. File permissions might also need to be modified. Sense doesn't normally has a mms.apk in there since the stock messaging app is built around Sense and I believe the name starts with "htc", but I would assume a new mms.apk would at least run. I'm not sure whether this file location and permissions are actually part of your problem
update -
I've tried the entire process of putting the app in system, setting permissions, and installing, rebooting etc. No avail. App still force closes as soon as it opens.
I think the problem is in fact something to do with sense. I deleted the old messaging app as well first but that didn't do anything either.
Damn.
4.2.2 MMS force closes on viper 4.1
I uninstalled all the htc language packs, htc messaging. Install mms.apk.
I can get the app open, change settings, type a message... But as soon as I add a recipient it force closes.
Since I can do the things I can with the app open seems as though it should be able to work
If there is anyone that wants to work on this? I don't want to bug Turge with it.

So did Verizon take this feature out or maybe in the software update that brings us the Power Save modes we will get this feature back?

Made a thread on the Intl M8 forum trying to get someone over there to check. Will at least confirm if HTC said screw it you don't need this feature or Verizon/US Carriers (once other carriers get this device in hand to see) said screw it you don't need this feature. HTC says the M8 has this feature. Unless they are wrong or again only on the Intl version or maybe just latest Firmware since ours is so old and don't even have the simple Power Save mode yet. Geez my Sense 4+ had Power Save mode. http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/howto/464986.html

Exactly! Always had this feature even on Sense 5.5 with Android 4.2.2 on my HTC One X+ device. Seems odd Sense 6.0 would take the feature out and leave in the block call feature???
Third party apps never work as well as fully integrated features IMO. Sure they can work for the most part, only takes that one time though it doesn't work to ruin it all, lol!

Was that the conversation menu? Is there anything different when you long press on a specific message?

Long press a message you only get options for Delete, Call, Open Contact. That's it! If you go into a text conversation window you can lock a message by tapping it and shows a lock symbol. Doesn't hide the message at all, think all this does is prevent message from being deleted.
Well looks like there is hope people!!! Straight from the HTC website it provides it (see link above) and also just got confirmation from an international unbranded HTC M8 user!
1.54.401.5 and yeah, stock unbranded international.
So i guess we then have to wait for either:
A. Verizon push us an OTA update with latest firmware 1.54.401.5
B. We have to wait for S-Off and then we can update on our own to firmware 1.54.401.5 and have it along with a world of opportunities?!?:fingers-crossed:
Just tested out the block caller feature that we still do have built into the stock dialer app. This feature is useless, try it! I blocked a phone number. Then had that phone call my phone, after 2 rings goes to voicemail, i left a voicemail. Now my phone vibrates telling me i have a new voicemail and also displays an icon on the notification bar with a person and a lock next to them. I pull down notifications and says tap to stop call forwarding or slide to dismiss.
So basically if you want someone to not call you you're SOL! They can still leave you a voicemail and the phone shows you right away that someone you didn't want to call just called. Gotta love the privacy here, WTF?!?
Really miss iPhone here with iBlacklist. The only app that got it right all the time! Would not let people leave a VM, would just make a busy tone if they called. Above that would save their texts they tried sending you inside the iBlacklist app itself if you cared to read them or just delete them. This device has no options like this and seems nothing on the market is compatible with kit kat 4.4.2?

Check out Who Are You. It pairs best with YouMail, but it's not required. I use them both and once I ditch a call, it doesn't just hang up on them. It plays the Verizon Wireless number disconnected message and then hang up.

Does it block text too? Seems nothing blocks text in kit Kat 4.4.2 and HTC phones have issues not blocking calls instead sending them to VM.
