[Q] Does the M8 have a notification LED? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Title says it all

yes
yes, it's behind the speaker grill.

Good to know. I was comparing it to my Note2 on PhoneArena and they didnt list that as a feature. I was thinking it didnt have it and how much I hated that on my Droid Charge(?). Thanks for the info.

It's really small though. I'm coming from the Droid Razr HD so I'm used to the nice light that phone had. This one is harder to see.

Yeah coming from other devices with LED this is by far the cheapest/most minimal looking. I went even as far to install the 3rd party active notifications app since I got used to it instead of the LED on the Moto X.

It's there. But it's not as bright as it was on the M7.

RGB LED Control Support?
Hey Guys,
Does the M8 support multiple color LED notifications, ie Blue for Facebook, White for SMS, Pink for e-Mail etc?
Generally you need to have Root and installed some Apk/app like 'LightFlow' from the play store.
Such a small feature but a big impact for me to be able to tell what notifications there are from a distance or in a meeting with out waking up the phone.
Im keen to buy a HTC M8 tomorrow if it supports this, if not ill wait for the S5 next week.
Thanks

Any HTC phone I've had uses only green and orange. It's the same for the M8.

yeah its at an odd place , two down and seven from the right lol (top speaker grill dots). Another thing I noticed is the orange charging/low power light is rather dim but the green notification light is very bright (compared to the other). Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, can't see the orange unless I'm looking at the phone dead on, but I can see the green from across the room.

Before buying this phone, I was well aware of the lack of (customizable) LED notification support with HTC, and it still didn't stop me. This phone makes up for it in so many ways. After using it for a while, I thought for sure someone would at least figure out how to choose between amber and green LEDs for notifications, or even a combination of the two, but it seems only green is allowed somehow. Lightflow didn't work for me either. What a pity, as my Moto Droid could do many colors.

Lightflow worked pretty well for me, currently not using it, but there is a thread around that has a pretty good setup proceedure. I just found that it had some quirks, so I'm back to stock. You can disable the timeout if you edit the default.xml
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

The stock LED light is pretty doing fine for me. Haven't tried the Lightflow yet for what I know, M8 has a limited colors for its LED light.

I am now on Nexus #4, serious issues with first 3. So #4 looks totally different. The colors are washed out and the UI seems weird. Such as when hitting the bottom of s scrollable screen, the yellow highlights aren't smooth but sorta jagged at the top. The icons at the top of the display (wifi icon, 4g icon, etc) are green. I'm almost positive the first 3 had white highlight not green. The stock nexus wallpaper also seems a bit weird up in yhr right corner. I'm running 2.3.4 but I'm almost certain so were the others since they were all purchased with s week. Please leave me some feedback guys, I'm begging ya. I can't see myself walking into the store to exchangeyet again. Oh and the keyboard is now two tones of grey which again I never noticed on the first 3. The actual letter keys are lighter grey than the function keys.

Well Which carrier? start there...did you root it..have u added a rom??
ALSO my NEXUS HAS GIVEN ME SERIOUS PROBLEMS.. WHICH makes my phone not functional. my problem is that the DATA connectivity has lost completely can brows or any simple thing that requires data.. tried numerous things, such as updating my profile which Fails, PRL, which fails, Every ## method i can think of. I also tried going back to stock VIA ADB... still no data, its as if i had a bad activation...AND SPRINT TECH are totally of no use..they cant even realize that the # methods are different..I am wondering if i need to enter anything in the settings??searched and searched google and i just think that the support on the device is so poor that google almost fails to recognize the problems in actual writing...Now im stuck wondering if i should go back to my EVO again!!!
I'm on sprint too and also wondering if I want me evo back. I do like the phone though and pure Google is awesome. I'm nit one of those people who just looks to break balls and get return after return simply because I'm able to. I've also had to purchase a new $30 zagg with each exchange so I'm out an additional $120. I can't imagine walking back into the store for my 5th nexus. They also said after 3 there not allowed to do exchanges for the same device, its time to get into a new one. I have read all the issues that the last couple of updates has brought to the color profile of the Nexus but I'm pretty sure the others were all on the same software. Can anyone confirm when 2.3.4 rolled out ota?

If you've read the forums you'll know this is a divisive point: some think the over-saturated purple-heavy colour space used prior to 2.3 is better looking, and some think that the correct colour space is, of course, correct. You make your own mind up. Read the other threads on the topic.
OK so after a bit more time with the phone here's what I'm finding.
I can't remember what software version the first batch of nexus units had but this one is running 2.3.4. I've read that one if the updates has totally screwed up the colors on the Nexus S but this seems to have been one of the updates the TMO version got, I think the ns4g shipped with 2.3.4. Still need someone to confirm this because if my first 3 were running earlier software then its possible that's why this one looks very different. It doesn't seem to be s faulty display because its really only the UI that's affected. Photos sbd such do not look washed out. When outside the deep dark blacks and vibrant colors come back, head indoors and the washed out display is very noticeable. Could this be an issue with the auto brightness?? I could really use some help here guys, especially if someone knows for sure if yhr Sprint version has been updated to 2.3.4 or if it shipped with 2.3.5. Thanks
Most of your questions are found by Googling or searching in the forums, but ill tell you what I know.
The green means that you are synced. White means that you are connected to internet but you're not synced ie you get no Google services. Gtalk, email, etc etc. You want it to be green.
As mentioned above, the washed out colors are from 2.3.3 and on. I think they changed the colors a little bit in 2.3.4 but they will still look "washed out" to someone who came straight off 2.3.2 and before.
Also, the washed out was not tmo specific. It was changed in the 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 OS which means that anyone with those versions will see this. Nexus s is a pure Google phone so the updates are all the same, not network specific.
If being in the sun makes the screen brighter or changes how your screen looks, then yes, that is the auto brightness trying to save you battery life. It does the same to me too. It's annoying I know because sometimes on cloudy days it doesn't brighten all the way but I still can't see the screen as clearly. You can change the brightness of the screen though.
Hope this helps.

Zaggs have a lifetime warranty and even if you have to return your phone, take the Zagg off first and then go to Zagg.com and go to support and get a replacement. They will charge you shipping($3 I think) and as long as you send the old one back in within 60 days you will incur no more charges. Returning your phone is one of the options covered under their lifetime warranty.

[Q] Notification Light?

It's one of the sensors (light or proximity) to be sure; a lot of people make the same mistake on the various Samsung devices. There's definitely no notification LED on this device.
WOW, that sucks. I really miss that and a hardware camera button. I don't think I am going to keep this phone too long. The phone is OK but not great. I need an upgrade.

Try the NOLED app from the Market. Doesn't drain power any more than a hardware LED notifier does, and lots of people love it. You can even set it up for different notices. It turns on a pixel or two on the regular screen when you have a notification come in.
There's a couple of 3rd party camera apps (Vignette is one that I use) that let you map the volume buttons to snap your photo (great for those discreet shots) or make the entire screen the tap zone for taking a pic.
Amazing how much difference there is in how we all think the importance of a notification LED is. I rarely pay attention to the one on my TB, and never really missed it on all the Galaxy S devices I've had over the last year. An LED for missed calls was a must on old flip phones, but I guess since my smart phones are constantly in my hand and getting looked at for some other reason, I don't notice it gone.
The lack of a kickstand bugs me more than the lack of an LED...never would have guessed that until I'd gotten used to using one on my TB.

red flashing infared light.....anyone else notice?

While making/receiving/in call....there is a flashing red light. Did anyone else notice this besides me? It's towards the bottom left of the FC.
Is there a purpose for this?
Haha yeah dude that's the proximity sensor that cuts the screen off when you put it to your face. I noticed that last night. Pretty funny that you can actually see it.

Take any camera and film your different remotes while you press their buttons and the camera will upconvert the infrared spectrum into the visible spectrum.
But I have never heard of any human able to actually see the infrared spectrum although there exists animals that can detect it.

Indeed. My first thought when I saw it was "why am I seeing infrared light....what the hell?????". But anyways, no biggie. Can't really see it unless you're looking for it in the dark or something. Certainly isn't an issue or problem.

Yeah, make a call in a dark room, you'll see it. But its def. the prox. sensor.
smart butts!!!
Lol, sorry I didn't mean to put inferred, I put inferred because it was red. But you guys knew what was getting at.
Thanks for the answer nickmv.
I just tested it myself and what do you know... the LED has a dim glowing red... very faint but it's there... so no... it's not really in the infrared spectrum but quite close to it nonetheless... but then again it could be a dual colored LED; one with the infrared light and one with the visible light... I don't know...
It is so freaky! But true. Only visible in a dark environment for me.
I was killing time with my one s camera and my remote control, never know u can see the inferred light from a camera, Feels like science class
It's the proximity sensor...you know, the thing that turns your screen on and off when you put the phone to your face during a phone call then move it away from your face...

darn this thread got me excited, thought maybe the One s had another notification light that we could use for stuff! I really hate the placement of the LED on this phone, but I guess its good enough that it even has one. I wish it would glow at least, not just flash. would be a lot more noticable
I noticed it today in bright sunlight. And there is another thingy next to it. Nevertheless I find that red flickering light pretty annoying. It makes me nervous, it flickers like a ethernet status LED. Hope theres a way to turn it off...
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
Did anyone solve this?
I have a problem with the sensor; If i use my headset, it won't stop blinking after I make a call. If I make a new call and immediately end the call, the sensor stops blinking.
I contacted HTC and they told me that I should send it for repairs...

I remember this red glow of the LED from the good old IRDA transmitters that we had in phones and laptops years ago.
If you look at the light spectrum you'll notice that Infrared is very close to red

+1... I noticed the same "effect" on my phone last night - H/W malfunction? Does it drain a little bit a battery by "sensing" continuously? Or just a "cosmetic" matter?...
Any feedback from HTC or another source? Any way to disable it?
EDIT : "I contacted HTC and they told me that I should send it for repairs..." <- I hope it could be solved without that option ...

LED notification light?

Does the U11 have the LED notification light?
I'm starting to think the answer is no and the reason why I think that is I've watched enough videos and seen enough photos and I haven't seen any video with a flashing led even though some of the videos show notifications coming in like an email, but you don't see an LED start to flash. This would be kind of a bummer I admit and it's not conclusive of course.

Nice catch..
LED light is a must for me. I am probably used to it, but it does serve its purpose.
I'm wondering if it is a multi colored led, or just 1 or 2 colors. I'm so use to having one (Note 2/3/4, LG G5) that I decided not to get th G6 because they left it out. I know the S8/8+ has it, but not a fan of curved screens.
So far, the U11 looks like it might be worth the update from my G5.

Since we now know there is an LED I would be shocked if it couldn't do multiple and many colors that's pretty old technology & I would be shocked if it could only do two colors. An app like Lightflow will prove that out pretty quick.

At that time, Lightflow seems not to work properly, or maybe it's the dev unit that is limited but only orange et green led are OK. If I set another color, the notification LED remain green or orange

HTC 10 has an RG LED, no blue. Some custom kernels use a color gradient for charging, from amber to green, but no other shades are possible. I would imagine that U11 has the same limitation.

Pretty surprising... not even sure of the logic on a color limited LED.
I've used Lightflow for years and I've had many emails with the developer to help find bugs and improve the product and I know from past conversations that sometimes the software that comes on the phone changes how apps have to talk to the system to get colors to change and maybe that's happened here and it's just a matter of tweaking the software?
Nevertheless - it has an LED and that's key.

A lot of cost differences are measured in cents, but why inflate the BOM by paying for functionality that is not going to be used? Profit margins do need to be maintained.

It's an easy & logical knee jerk explanation, but not always explicable or even right.
They include (1) a dongle (2) earbuds that are noise canceling (3) a case.... I do not believe cost would be a decision point here IF this is even true and it is a limited LED.

Yes, because accessories like earphones are a selling point, the dongle is needed for easier transition to USB-C audio (customers who own 3.5mm headphones are not put off), the case is for aluminum fans who are afraid to damage the new glass phone... All of those things are on the marketing sheet. An LED that could be blue but never is isn't.
http://www.htc.com/hk-en/support/htc-u11/howto/notifications.html
Basic LED light just like all previous HTC phones.
Well, glad it has an LED at least.
Looking at Lighflow notes about previous HTC phones, "Limited color LED support when the app is set to "Direct Mode" and the phone is rooted." (root due to permission HTC has been setting on recent phones). 3 colors due to hardware choices by HTC.
All of my previous Moto, Samsung and LG phones I have used Lightflow to do great colors, oh well bummer - surprising actually to me.

Notification LED

Does One Plus 7 Pro has Notification Led unlike One plus 6T ? Thanks
It have glowing edges!!
Looks this post

But does it stay on indefinitely? No good if it only flashes the edge once while I'm out of the room.
I hope it doubles as a strobe light...
I think it works like Samsung edge lighting... only goes through 1 cycle which is only for a few seconds. Same issue I have with the s10+ at the moment.

This is definitely true
I don't get it. Never Settle pushing out new hardware better this better that. But can't address this simple issue with notifications on screen. It seems like OnePlus is a name that has a big brand master that is playing deaf not hearing this. I don't give a rat's ass about 7/7pro till " never settle" will address simple issues with previous models.
Maybe support this brilliant developer and put LED light notification problem behind.

Not sure if you have been reading the thread or watch the launch event. A main point addressed has been the no Led notifications. There is a blue edge now for notifications.
Yes I've seen it. Someone was asking about duration of notifications and way to dismiss it. Happened to be AOE let you customize all that. I own 6T and with out help from outside developers OnePlus did nothing to fix it. Most of solutions I found out there are good projects but need some more work to make it flow less and that where oneplus should have step in. But apparently OnePlus don't care about 6/6T users. I know OnePlus got it in books already so who cares! Right ?
