[Q] Tried to flash 4.3 modem now bricked. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi everyone. I was on 4.1.2 with SynergyRom, then flashed I545VRUDMI1_modem in preparation for trying to flash AllianceRom per Dev's instructions. Now apparently I have a hard brick, no response trying to boot or anything. Any suggestions for proceeding? I am a bit rusty at flashing and may not have quite understood the transition from 4.1.2. Thanks,

If you flash that on a galaxy s3 the result will always be a hard brick. That modem is for a galaxy s4
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

^^^Yup. The i545 is the S4. I'm not sure if just overwriting the modem partition itself would result in a hard brick, but I'm assuming the two phones have different partition tables so you most likely have a paper weight. You could try the SD unbrick method.

This may help..
I just wrote a boot img to a 16gb(my phones storage size)and inserted it to my phone and it booted. I was hard bricked s3 vzw 4.3.

Doh
Thanks, I did not read close enough. Ordered a 32 GB card for this weekend and hoping I can at least get up and running,

Ok hope it works.

If you have an AT&T branded phone, you'll need to flash the FXZ in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961310
For any other Atrix 2, you'll need to look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934874
If you don't know how to flash an FXZ, read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909319
As well as JRW 28's beginner's guide linked in the op of that ^ thread.
It is extremely important that you have the correct FXZ for your phone's model. Also thoroughly read up on what you are attempting to do to your phone to avoid (as much as possible) these types of issues.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
Thanks a ton...let the flashing begin

Samsung Complimentary Flash Back to Stock

I swear I read sometime last year that Samsung provided this service free of charge. Does anyone remember this? Googles is turning nothing up for me as there are a billion ZOMG I BRICKED MY PHONE threads all over the web lol. I have a buddy with a soft bricked GS3 and Odin isn't working for some reason.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
If it is only soft bricked then pip a ROM on an SD card and flash the ROM from there. Grab one of the rooted stock ROMs and you should be good

Well apparently Odin won't work. He's used and flashed back to stock a few times so he knows how to use it. Said his partition is screwed?

As long as he can get into recovery he can install a zip file from the external SD card. I've done that.

1. Mobile odin, however I've personally never used it. There are probably guides out there somewhere how to return the phone to stock.
2. You may still be under samsung's warranty period, they don't care if your phone is rooted and will fix hardware problems. They will flash the most recent stock rom and firmware they have to your phone so you'd have to re root it.

I have not tried the mobile odin app (did not know it existed). I will try that and post back results in a little while. Thanks everyone
Its pretty straight forward. It does cost you a few bucks but its always nice to have and support a great developer.

What guide did you follow? You could've done a number of things wrong, try to boot into recovery or download mode to see if you're hardbricked.

Thanks for your help I was able to get a usb connection enough and I used Odin on my laptop. The only problem I have now is that the custom unblock symbol appears when I boot up the phone. Any idea how to remove that now that root is gone? Ignore the following words...my phone won't let me edit them out. Thanks again.
Edit: it looks like the file I used was a 4.0.4 image. For return purposes is it fine if it's the older version? There should be no signs of root now. I'll keep checking for updates though

I would, if you have an ics rom they will be able to tell something is off. It should accept an OTA update. If you can odin again, use the vrblk3 image and accept the ota to vrbmb1. It may not be updating due to to the jump from ics to the most recent base. That will make sure you're completely back to stock, with a locked bootloader, and a stock recovery.

Just to be clear, if your gs3 has the official 4.3 on it, you CANNOT unlock the bootloader. You WILL brick your phone if you try.

I have just received a replacement phone. I have gone about the ways I rooted previously and none of them are working. This did NOT come with 4.3 from the factory, and the 4.3 update is not installed. I reverted back to stock from android recovery, so 4.0.4 is on there right now. But no matter what I do, whether it's the one click method, the GS3 toolkit format, or manually trying to gain root through recovery, nothing works. On the "downloading" screen that you need during use of ODIN, it says "SECURE CHECK FAIL", and it'll either have "boot" after it, or "kernel". Anyone have any ideas? As of this moment I have no working phone. Looking for some help asap. Thank you guys.

Try to Odin flash factory 4.1.2 and see if the secure check turn to "enabled". If it's then try to root again.
I just Odin flashed a stock 4.1.2 ROM actually. It's booting up normally now. It honestly seems like they added a layer of protection on the newly distributed handsets. I will try to go through the normal 1 click method again and see if that works. How would I check if the secure check is still enabled?
Actually, no, it's still 4.0.4 but I'm going to try the same thing just with a different 1 click method.
Looks like the really old way worked. With the ez-unlock and ez-recovery. I had to completely demolish what was there when it was sent to me, though. So anyone who gets a replacement, the best bet is to flash a fresh 4.1.2 ROM or 4.0.4 ROM immediately, boot back up and go from there.
