Have you tried using a 3rd party file manager like ES File manager?
same problem, using solid explorer and it just gives me error but no explanation why, really annoyed
Yes says it deleted successfully but files still there

That has to do with kitkat and security issues with sd card's. Root should solve that.

Same here. If I try to copy anything from my Download folder to the SD I get an error. As someone else noted, I believe this is related to KitKat.
I haven't had an issue. using 64 gb sdcard. I have deleted photos and etc but not through an explorer

I can manage files on the SD card with a computer and MTP, but not through ES File Explorer.

Is your SD card new or from another device? This has happened in 3 recent devices. My note 2, G Pad 8.3 GPE and M8. By the time I got to the M8, it was more to confirm the issue than anything as I'd already ordered my 64gb Samsung pro $45. So, if I use an SD card that was previously used in another device, the problem your having, always occurs. I put it in the OG device I used it in, no problems. I've tried formatting the SD in a computer and the devices, but still no go. Only putting a new one in works.. well, I'm sure there has to be a fix. I've just never really researched it. I don't know what causes this but I can't imagine this not being fixable. Have you had any results from a Google search?

Okay, I can't delete either..now. or maybe ever. I don't know if I my pictures on there and assumed I was good but definitely can't delete using a file manager. I can delete pictures from the gallery but not file manager. I have a SanDisk 64gb I'm gonna try. Maybe it's brand and HTC doesn't like Samsung.

I have SanDisk 64GB, so that's not the issue. The problem is Google's security changes to SD permissions. You can delete from within apps because they were coded to elevate the required permissions. Once we have root, we'll be able to access the SD card through /mnt/sdcard2 and write/delete to our heart's content.

The fix... once you guys have root.. will be the same as it is on other HTC phones getting kitkat
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart.

Hi,
using MIUI rom right now, and I noticed that copying data from PC to phone is slow as hell (200KiB/s). It was OK while using the stock HTC rom. However when I go to the recovery and mount sdcard, transfer speed is relatively good (4MiB/s-10MiB/s). Does anybody know if it is a ROM related problem, because nobody from MIUI has posted similar issue.
Thanks for any tip or advice.
What is the sd card cache size on miui? Stock htc rom it was limited to a poxy 128k! I use this app to bump it to 2048k.....

See if that helps.

Most custom roms have had this tweak as standard for a while, and I've not heard of any issues with cooked SD cards. My class 6 SD card can be written to at 6MB/sec, so I shouldn't expect a cache of 2MB to push it too far. I've had the same 16GB card for 2 years on custom roms with this fix. No problems here.
I'd say make sure you don't have the cache any larger than your SD card class. For example, if you have a generic class 2 card, I'd perhaps only raise the cache to 1024k. That's still 8 times better than stock!
Use an app called "SD Tools" on the marketplace to run a 'before' and 'after' speed test.

No, it doesn't help. It's still the same.
I'm afraid that I can't remember where I've read this, but I believe that I've previously read somewhere in the forum that this is kernel related.
So possibly try stock kernel and try again.
I'm just looking for a simple app that will allow me to view what's on my external sd card instead of everything... I'm just trying to get rid of all the extra junk that I don't need on this card :/ so any help would be awesome

There are a number of file explorers in the market. I like ES File Explorer.
Yeah I use that too but what I wanted was something that'd just show my external and like dups of it :/

You can go into the settings for ES File Explorer and choose which directory is displayed when you run ES. (Menu->Settings->Home Directory)
If you want to fidn duplicate files on that SD card I would recommend mounting it to your PC and using something like Duplicate Cleaner (or another application or utility appropriate to your OS).
I agree with them
Agreed. ES File Explorer would be your best bet.

DiskUsage is something that might be of help to you. One of my most useful apps. It'll give you a visual of what is taking up space in app storage and the SD card. You can even delete entire directories from inside the app.

I agree. ES File Explorer gives you root access (on a rooted device), let's you choose the starting directory if you just want your SD card, and best of all it's free.

I have "Sensation XE"
Once I was transferring some data via USB storage my SD card got some virus I scanned it with "NOD32 V4" and cleaned it
The virus changed the folders attribution to system hidden folders so I restored them to the normal folders but it didn't make any change in the problem so I copied the media in every folder to new folders but it didn't make any change I changed the rom from HD Revolutionary to Black Ice and I have the same problem
I can see the media I have through file managers like astro
Help me plz
I have had the same problem since first switching to ics. Many people have solutions. With ext4 touch recovery you have the option to clean or fix the sdcard, it works for some but not me. The only other thing you can do is format the sdcard and try again. I've been lazy and haven't formatted yet so mine us still broken. Also no custom ringtones either.

After a fresh install everything works for me. I can set ringtones and all my pics and music can be found. Then about an hr later nothing shows up. I know other people have this issue, but I've just kinda dealt with it until I see someone with a fix.
I'm on VI 3.5 with the SD card it came with, dunno if that matters but it could be a SD card deterioration issue.

Bump... That is a detailed post about a similar problem on all cm7 & cm9 builds. There is explanation of why the SD media disappears and are testing the patch.
I know its cm9 and VI is sense based but they talk about the android os itself so maybe, just maybe its an android problem and can be easily patched.
There is a strange culprit that was causing some of the problem... Google +

Not sure what you are asking sir, I have installed these, which means I have either tested or ran the ROMs in the Dev. as far as sd card issues, there is none, now for CM9, the mount is different than Gingerbread...EMMC which means: Embedded Multi Media Card, vice the GB "ext SD" label.

Have you been making nandroid back ups ? How much is under "Misc" ? Looks around 700mb ? ( but the yellow maker is covering it up )
Looks to me you need to do some house keeping to tidy up the storage space, easy enough to do.
What recovery are you using on the device ?
you've got OVER 2 gigs of app data folders on the internal there, open your file browser and look for folders of apps you've deleted and delete them, also remember YOU HAVE A MICROSD SLOT, you can add more storage for music and movies.
do any of your streaming apps keep a large "buffer", could try clearing app data.

Its the system partition that eats up the rest, as far as I know. That is why only just under

That's just the way it is. Kind of like when you insert a 32gb micro sd card you automatically lose nearly 4gb down to 29.7gb.
If you've been making backups chances are the cwm folder has a nice size file well over 1gb

Rooting has basically nothing whatsoever to do with the problem. Why does everyone think that just cause u rooted ur phone/ tablet now becomes mentally retarded?
I would look around in the system files. I had the same problem, there was this file idk how the hell got there and was like 4 gigs. Just try to locate the file and delete it.

Pretty sure you can go to a folder browser then couldn't u sort all them by size by bigger sizes descending. So what i mean is the biggest files would show up on top. Then you could look around and see if one of the bigger files is not needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970961 here is another thread talking about pretty much the same thing. I agree with one of the posters, about just swapping the storage with the external sd card. I haven't personally had great luck with android 4.2.x, but there is a great script for p311x on xda that swaps them on ics and jb 4.1.x just fine. Its what I use, and also why im not running anything past 4.1.2.
