I'm just looking for a simple app that will allow me to view what's on my external sd card instead of everything... I'm just trying to get rid of all the extra junk that I don't need on this card :/ so any help would be awesome

There are a number of file explorers in the market. I like ES File Explorer.
Yeah I use that too but what I wanted was something that'd just show my external and like dups of it :/
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
You can go into the settings for ES File Explorer and choose which directory is displayed when you run ES. (Menu->Settings->Home Directory)
If you want to fidn duplicate files on that SD card I would recommend mounting it to your PC and using something like Duplicate Cleaner (or another application or utility appropriate to your OS).
I agree with them
Agreed. ES File Explorer would be your best bet.
Astro was a fav of mine...but now I use root explorer for all my SD and system files searching needs.

DiskUsage is something that might be of help to you. One of my most useful apps. It'll give you a visual of what is taking up space in app storage and the SD card. You can even delete entire directories from inside the app.

Root explorer is my favourite as well, has the most useful features, es file manager looks nicer though.... but hey I don't get an app for its look I get it for its FUNCTIONALITY!
Yeah I'm using es file and I use it on my sisters tablet and all my friends phones bc I know it well but I would like to learn more so maybe ill try out root explorer and see if it works just as good if not better
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I agree. ES File Explorer gives you root access (on a rooted device), let's you choose the starting directory if you just want your SD card, and best of all it's free.

Yeah I was the one who called. I even went and exchanged my phone for a new one and the memory problem was still there. Best thing you can do is call and complain really. They told me no one else had complained about the problem to them yet so they had no idea what to say. The more people who complain the bigger the problem becomes and they'll fix it.
But I agree, we will have a fix here on xda before an OTA is issued
So, in a test, I just deleted almost everything on my phone, except the required items for it to run properly. Checked my memory, and it s now LESS available!!!! WTF Samsung?!?!?!?

I think I should have realized the application storage is counted in /data partition. Delete ANYTHING from /system/app doesn't help.
There should be something can be done on partitioning.
I used this method and it worked great for me. I Had 151mb free now I have 369mb free. Scroll down to the How to Delete Fota files and follows the steps.
Here is the link.

Bigken777
Unzip attached files and move them to the data\fota directory.
these files will replace the actual files and will free 250 Mb/
any more questions, look for the thread in development
Did the Fota fix also and got 300mb
Hey guys i tried the fota fix, which also appears on another thread, but once i dumped the files into app/fota it didn't free up any space...i must be doing something wrong, any suggestions?

Well, great question cuz, im only dragging and dropping the files not actually pushing them, so i guess that might be part of tha problem. is there an app i could use to do this? Thanx in advance, im a n00b at this...

The easiest way is to use "root explorer" or "super manager" copy them and drop them in the fota file and it will over write them. I actually made a copy of the original fota files on my sdcard just in case.

If you use root explorer make sure you click on the "Mount r/w" at the top. that ensures you have permissions to write to the /data/fota folder
A little more on this is that you're replacing the Firmware(?) Over The Air (FOTA) files. They are each 125MB so you should gain about 250MB of storage.
Make sure you look at the size, the new files are 0k. I used super manager, it was really easy to use. Don't forget to make the system R/W.
thanx 4 sharing guys, i will try again as soon as i get a break from work...

It's all based on personal preference. So what if I tell you which one I use? If you don't like it then it makes no difference. There are many different ones to choose. If you're bored enough to post an opinion thread then spend time trying the different options you have in the market. I'm using esfileexplorer now because it was built into the Rom. I was using astro before. They all seem similar. I don't know about astro but I noticed in es you can check md5.

I have been using Root Explorer since Froyo and never
had a problem.
only reason I rooted was to use root explorer and tibu. root explorer wouldnt even load, or it was so slow I stopped waiting hit the home button.
The only reason it's the most downloaded is because of its name. Es file explorer is a better form of this type of app, and has more features. Also, es's file explorer doesn't have propblems with setting permissions automatically when copy/pasting, unlike root explorer. Just saying.

I thought I was the only one.. I'm running SynergyROM currently, but even on other ROMs i noticed a delay when I hit a folder, something i never noticed on any other phone I've had.
Haven't noticed any issues here. I use Root Explorer quite a bit and it's been fast and smooth for me.
I've seen this thread in the Q&A section and posted there but since there's another post here...
I've used Root Explorer for years on my old Droid X phone as well as my Viewsonic G Tablet and Nook Color. It loaded fast and displayed file lists fast on those devices. It does run slow on my GS3. I notice it takes a few seconds to load some directories. I also own a rooted HTC One X and Root Explorer runs just fine on that phone. So, there is something different with the SG3 that makes some apps like Root Explorer run s...l...o...w.
I can't even get it to show any directories. It freezes up every time. I'm running Synergy 1.3.
No problems running Root Explorer on rooted stock F2 rom.
Runs fine on mine.

Is your SD card new or from another device? This has happened in 3 recent devices. My note 2, G Pad 8.3 GPE and M8. By the time I got to the M8, it was more to confirm the issue than anything as I'd already ordered my 64gb Samsung pro $45. So, if I use an SD card that was previously used in another device, the problem your having, always occurs. I put it in the OG device I used it in, no problems. I've tried formatting the SD in a computer and the devices, but still no go. Only putting a new one in works.. well, I'm sure there has to be a fix. I've just never really researched it. I don't know what causes this but I can't imagine this not being fixable. Have you had any results from a Google search?

I have SanDisk 64GB, so that's not the issue. The problem is Google's security changes to SD permissions. You can delete from within apps because they were coded to elevate the required permissions. Once we have root, we'll be able to access the SD card through /mnt/sdcard2 and write/delete to our heart's content.

The fix... once you guys have root.. will be the same as it is on other HTC phones getting kitkat
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart.
