Removed bloat, but available storage still the same! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So I rooted and removed bloat with TB, but my available memory did not change whatsoever. Any ideas?

Same here man...I have 539Mb Total, and only 160Mb Available.
I dumped my entire system, and it was only 150Mb.....
Where the hell is the rest of the memory going???

Well someone in the other tgread said they called tmobile and found out its a software issue with the phone not seeing the rest of the memory. A fix is supposedly being worked on by samsung

Itll be fixed by Team Whiskey way before Samsung
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

Yeah I was the one who called. I even went and exchanged my phone for a new one and the memory problem was still there. Best thing you can do is call and complain really. They told me no one else had complained about the problem to them yet so they had no idea what to say. The more people who complain the bigger the problem becomes and they'll fix it.
But I agree, we will have a fix here on xda before an OTA is issued

So, in a test, I just deleted almost everything on my phone, except the required items for it to run properly. Checked my memory, and it s now LESS available!!!! WTF Samsung?!?!?!?

I think I should have realized the application storage is counted in /data partition. Delete ANYTHING from /system/app doesn't help.
There should be something can be done on partitioning.

I used this method and it worked great for me. I Had 151mb free now I have 369mb free. Scroll down to the How to Delete Fota files and follows the steps.
Here is the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025610
Bigken777

Unzip attached files and move them to the data\fota directory.
these files will replace the actual files and will free 250 Mb/
any more questions, look for the thread in development

Did the Fota fix also and got 300mb

Hey guys i tried the fota fix, which also appears on another thread, but once i dumped the files into app/fota it didn't free up any space...i must be doing something wrong, any suggestions?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App

Yea that Fota.zip is the only way to clear up the application storage. I was happy with how it worked

Well, great question cuz, im only dragging and dropping the files not actually pushing them, so i guess that might be part of tha problem. is there an app i could use to do this? Thanx in advance, im a n00b at this...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App

The easiest way is to use "root explorer" or "super manager" copy them and drop them in the fota file and it will over write them. I actually made a copy of the original fota files on my sdcard just in case.

If you use root explorer make sure you click on the "Mount r/w" at the top. that ensures you have permissions to write to the /data/fota folder

A little more on this is that you're replacing the Firmware(?) Over The Air (FOTA) files. They are each 125MB so you should gain about 250MB of storage.
Make sure you look at the size, the new files are 0k. I used super manager, it was really easy to use. Don't forget to make the system R/W.

thanx 4 sharing guys, i will try again as soon as i get a break from work...

Just to update, i finally got around to the fota fix and managed to free up arnd 300 megs. Used sypermanager to push the files. Thx to everyone who cooperated...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App

There was already an app created by Mat to do this instead of mod procedures. In market just search for fota. Rest will follow thru the app. Make's life simple.

Ad downloads to my phone itself.

Hi.
I've got a little problem with ads on my android. About two days ago I saw an advert in my gallery (WTF!?!?). It was in data/com.admarvel.android.admarvelcachedads/ads/c22102 dir on my phone memory. Always when i delete it, the ad downloads to my phone's memory even if i dont do anything on my device. I checked on my app list and i dont have any thing like admarvel etc. Im wondering if it's a virus or something like that.
Does anyone know how to get a rid of that thing?
Hmm download #root unstaller
And look for the app and then delete it
Well, my phone is not rooted. I had a lite'ning rom (root included) installed on it but i flashed it with stock firmware. is it possible that official firmware (downloaded form samfirmware.com) had this ad in it? If i really have to root my phone can you tell me if there is a way to root it without flashing? I've got a galaxy s2.
OK, I downloaded the Root Uninstaller on my unrooted pohne... i cannot find anything that could be the "ad downloader" ;/ Do you have any ideas or someone had this problem before ?
Hmm do you have task manager??
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
Yeah. Galaxy S2 has it build in. BTW. nothing in there ;(
EDIT: Does the factory reset remove all of my apps and their data?
EDIT2: OK it does.
Factory was the last step i dont like a reset for something like that
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
If factory reset is the last step, is there still something else that you can think of before the last one xd?? Honestly, im wouldnt be so happy to do that (but if its the last hope xD...).

Do you have an Opera web browser installed on your phone? Apparently they don't want me to post a link because I just registered on this website, but the article says Opera has acquired Admarvel. I have this browser installed on my phone and also have ads downloading in /data/com.admarvel/ads into folders with names such as c26417 and c26419.
I was wrong. It is Shazam that puts those ads there.

Wifi tweak on the X10. (Moved to development)

Hey guys I got a tweak from wolfs Rom working on my x10 that increases the signal greatly. Watch the how to video here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy0r-o1Bh9Q&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I now have over a 10000 kbps connection just like his in the video. Pretty cool.
First step unzip the file in your sd card then open the file via root explorer
Next go into system/etc/init.d and copy the modules script using root explorer.
Next go to your system on the actual phone (not the sd card) then go.to etc then find the folder called init.d. (if you dont have it flash this via recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236446
Then place modules in the init folder.
Next go back to your sd card where the 4.0.4 thing is and go into system*etc and copy the entire. Install sh recovery folder then go back to the actual phone and go to.system/etc and just paste it there and select yes if it asks u to overwrite something.
Finally find the install recovery thing
you just copied and click it once and press execute.
Then your done.
How to test if it worked. Before u do the tweak download speed test from the market and test your current wifi speed. After tweak test it again. Note it may require a reboot.
Get it here. http://www.datafilehost.com/get.php?file=a18d42a6

you do realize that overwriting install-recovery.sh will overwrite any other init.d scripts the person might have and also any tweaks put in there by the dev (if you are using it on any other rom than wolfbreaks)?
You shouldn't be advising people to do stuff like this without at least warning them about what they're doing.

Suggestion for New ICS Rom Dev

Hello all, now that ICS update is coming out for our little Blaze, I'm sure there will be lots of devs. I'm not sure how the Memory is setup on the ICS Rom, but the current GB on our Blaze has a very limited "Internal SD Memory" (Around 1.3gig, I believe) to install apps. Might I make a suggestion to the devs to include script manager tweaks in the upcoming ICS Roms so that default storage for apps be pointed to the "External SD" where we have more memory? Thanks!

Apps in the market do not move data.that's what we want. Gta takes up one gig alone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I577 using xda app-developers app
I know what you guys are talking about. But what I meant is if I was to download a large game that is over 1.4 gigs, it wont have enough memory to save on the "Internal SD". What you mentioned only works if you already have the apps downloaded.
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
I used an app about a year ago called s2e . I can't be 100% sure but it moved app and data to external. I came from a G1 which had no internal memory . that phone was great but limited on space . if its not available there might be a similar app. good luck

I'll make sure it gets attention from the TFQ team. I can do it easily but I'd have to wipe both partitions to guarantee that no side effects happen.

I'd be happy with that. As it is easy to back them up via PC anyways. Plus with the move to ICS, I plan of completely starting form scratch and re-installing all apps from source, no backups short of the ones that are not available anymore.
Could DirectoryBind work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
When we get source, we can rewrite the package manager to point to sdcard instead of mmc then you won't have to worry about an app and/or doing it manually...

[Q] help me. galaxy tab 2 7.0 gt-3113

OK I was flashing the paranoid android ROM a few months back on my galaxy tab 2 7.0 3113 and I lost half of my compacity I am the type of person who downloads watches lots of movies and listen to alot music I would really like to have it back. any suggestions on how to fix it please hey buddy help anyone okay
Have you been making nandroid back ups ? How much is under "Misc" ? Looks around 700mb ? ( but the yellow maker is covering it up )
Looks to me you need to do some house keeping to tidy up the storage space, easy enough to do.
What recovery are you using on the device ?
you've got OVER 2 gigs of app data folders on the internal there, open your file browser and look for folders of apps you've deleted and delete them, also remember YOU HAVE A MICROSD SLOT, you can add more storage for music and movies.
do any of your streaming apps keep a large "buffer", could try clearing app data.

That's just the way it is. Kind of like when you insert a 32gb micro sd card you automatically lose nearly 4gb down to 29.7gb.
If you've been making backups chances are the cwm folder has a nice size file well over 1gb

Pretty sure you can go to a folder browser then couldn't u sort all them by size by bigger sizes descending. So what i mean is the biggest files would show up on top. Then you could look around and see if one of the bigger files is not needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970961 here is another thread talking about pretty much the same thing. I agree with one of the posters, about just swapping the storage with the external sd card. I haven't personally had great luck with android 4.2.x, but there is a great script for p311x on xda that swaps them on ics and jb 4.1.x just fine. Its what I use, and also why im not running anything past 4.1.2.
