Hello I am new to this forum. I would like to ask if somebody did what I need to do.
Firs I want to say that my nexus s is rooted with the latest CWM (or at least latest enough to install 4.4). First I installed 4.3 from slimroms. One month ago I installed 4.4.2 again from slimroms. All is fine except that with 4.4 I have BIG battery drain. I am thinking of rolling back to 4.3. But I want to do a complete backup of the OS with the apps and settings - all. In case I don't like 4.3 I want a .zip image so I can install back my backup and everything will be just like before. So is this possible or not? I know there are apps that can do a backup but how deep is this? Is it only the apps, or the apps and settings, or u can do only OS image? CWM can do backup too but since I've red it does backup only for the OS -no apps no settings.
Any tips will be appreciated.
Nandroid backup will do...
BACK UP then FULL WIPE then INSTALL
To restore backup...
FULL WIPE then RESTORE
Thanks I will take a look.

1. IMHO, you should extract necessary settings or data and restore to your new rom. You can use AppExtractor
2. No need to delete everything before restoring
3. Your choice. There is touch version out there. Try and love it

Thanks for your reply i really appreciate it.
i was saying that if i wana go back to my stock rom (original rom) wich is not rooted can i restore it using CW?
if i flash back to my stock nandroid backup using CW my phone will not be rooted and it will restore the default samsung rom?
its just my theory though i haven't tried it yet i`m asking question like this for my future reference
Well...
Yes your device wont be rooted and will return to the stock rom.
Since the nandroid backup copies the whole partition. just like Norton Ghost does on the pc, so your phone will just go back to its exact status it was at that time.
You wont need to wipe user data/factory reset, because of the data partition being restored by CW.
Well you are asking for a recovery. How did you make a nan backup if you have no recovery?
Or you used the stock one? if you used the stock one, aren't you able to use it to restore?
Or do you want a new more powerful recovery?
As in the previous post they mentioned, use the one you like, with the most options
A little click to the 'Thanks!' button if I helped you
Hi guys, I recently rooted and I've been running Clean Rom and Clean Kernel. I'd like to try to run Viper and beastmode kernel, but I'd rather not completely reset up my phone like I had to do when I switched from stock -> cleanrom.
I've herad of using titanium backup, and I've installed it but I'm not exactly sure what it will backup and what it wont.
So my question is, if i flash to a new rom, what's the best way to backup so I have to resetup as little as possible??
Any help would be appreciated
Hi,
I've been using Titanium Backup and my experience has been great with it. Basically you want to backup all user apps and all system data. There's a function that does exactly that in Titanium Backup. I then like to copy that backup onto my computer and then I can safely flash my phone.
Here's a nice little how to video on Titanium Backup in case you haven't seen it already...
Finally was able to succesfully root my phone last night, and now I am wondering how to actually flash a custom ROM. I figured I'd start with Cyanogen since its the most popular and seems like a good starting point. So, I have a few questions.
1. How do I install the custom ROM? (Cyanogen in this case) Also, is this process the same regardless of what android version I have? (I'm currently on the stock 4.1.1 OTA)
2. Should I install a custom kernel? If so, is it the same process? Also, is my data wiped just the same as with flashing a custom ROM?
3. If I make a backup with Titanium Backup, will I simply be able to access/redownload my app data it if I redownload Titanium after I flash the ROM?
Any and all help is appreciated!

I'm sure everyone has their own advice, but I would say first thing you'll need is ROM Manager
Download the ROM you want and place it on your sdcard. Use Titanium Backup to backup your applications, and then restart your phone in Recovery Mode. When in recovery mode, make a backup by going to "Backup and Restore" > backup. Then do a factory reset and wipe your cache. Install the new rom and enjoy the addiction
Also...be careful making sure that any kernel flashed is compatible with the ROM you are flashing. If not you can brick your phone.

And don't forget to unlock your bootloader!

This. And read, read and read.
And backup your imei.

I'm considering trying out a different ROM on my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. I've done quite a bit of modifications to my stock 4.1 ROM.
I made a complete backup of my phone using TWRP recovery (both system & data backed up).
Now, if i decide that after trying someother ROMS, i decide to revert back to the stock ROM i was using, can i just restore my backup with TWRP Recovery and all my settings, apps, screens, etc. everying will be restored just like it was before i put another ROM on?
I've been very hesitant to try this for fear of needing to reconfigure everything again.
I assume everythig restores as original but i need confirmation.
Thanks.

Yes, it does....if you do a full backup...
And by the way, questions belong in the Q and A section....cheers!
I recently bricked my D801 attempting to restore a CloudyG3 (kitkat) nandroid backup over a modified stock Lollipop ROM. I'm thinking it was because I didn't flash the appropriate KK baseband first. Is that so? Why do I need to do that? Does the nandroid backup not include the baseband? So if I had flashed the baseband first would the nandroid restore been uneventful?
If somebody could walk me through these scenarios, I would appreciate it. What I want to avoid is restoring KK stock, rooting, using KK autorec to install TWRP, updating TWRP with Blastagator's newest version, installing a new ROM, restoring apps and data from TIB, reconfiguring all system data. I want to be able to use nandroid backups to avoid all those extra steps.
Scenario 1 (as above): Going from any variation of LP stock back to CloudyG3 KK. What do I do?
Scenario 2: Going from Cloudy to AOSP-based ROM having made a nandroid backup of Cloudy. What do I do?
Scenario 3: Going from AOSP ROM back to Cloudy, hopefully using the Cloudy backup. What do I do?
I have a JDI panel btw so it's imperative I avoid white lines. I understand that using Blastagator's TWRP will help avoid that problem because it auto-switches. I also understand that many ROMs (such as Cloudy) also choose an appropriate kernel automatically. Do all/most AOSP ROMs install a kernel? If not what do I do? If so are most of them auto-switching?
I'm not hard bricking this phone again if I have to use Cloudy KK until I sell it. There are worse things. But I'd really like to be able to go back and forth using nandroid backups as I have with other devices.
Thanks,
Ron
