[Q] Broken antenna connector - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
some days ago my Macbook PSU fell on the screen of my beloved Nexus 5, crashing it without mercy. I bought a new screen and proceeded to change it,.
Opening the phone I discovered that the PSU fell exactly on the connector for the 3G antenna cable, bending it and disconnecting it from the mother board... i reassembled the phone anyway. Now i have a nexus 5 with a shiny new screen but without 3G connection.. 2G works fine but it's quite frustrating, 4G still isn't a viable option here in Italy.
Do I need a new motherboard or there is anything I can try to fix that? I still have the small metal ring that fell from the motherboard, and the connector on the cable looks ok
Or maybe I can try to sell my N5 and buy a new one? How much could mine be worth, without warranty and without 3G?
Thank you to anyone wishing to help!

Xda charging slot loose

My Xda/Qtek's charging slot is loose or bent and as such I am now not able to charge it or synchronise at all. Brought to the repair shop and was told that I need to change the whole mother board as the slot is attached
to the board and it is as good as getting another one than to fix it. Seems to me that the 2 pins in the centre or the slot is bent and I cannot get the connection on when I plug the charger in unless I twist the charger to one side I then get the yellow/orange light which indicate charging.
Appreciate if someone could help fix it. Cheers.
The charging socket is part of the mainboard, I have had this in the past with ipaqs, I got a jewellers eyepiece and a very slim pin and managed to get them lined up again, I am sure there was a post today about this very problem.
Thanks for info. I managed to strip apaart the xda and then soldered the
loose charging slot. It works fine now and I save having to pay for the replacement of the main board which is not worth it and also the service
costs.
help for newbie pls?
Hi, I currently have the same problem. I also want to try the solution that cruisin-thu suggested, unfortunately, I'm not much of a techie and I'm afraid that I might damage the mainboard if I don't know which parts to move. Does anyone know of any sites that have a picture of the xda II mainboard? I'd really appreciate the help.

Damaged pins on docking strip :-(

Any hadware pro`s out there?
Somehow I have managed to damage the contact strip on the bottom of the phone. It will not charge in the cradle, but the battery charges in the cradle. Sync using the cradle is OK. I think it needs a new connector strip. Does anyone know if this is a "beyond economical repair" type of problem, or have any ideas how to approach this. I could take it to an O2 shop for a quote, but that may take weeks, and besides its an unlocked phone, and they might not be 2 impressed!!!
Thanks,
Justin
I had the same problem. Sent it to the XDA service centre
they said it wasn't covered by the waranty
Cost about £70 to get it repaired
tel 0808 100 3427
Thanks
just found out £104
I also have the same problem mate. Not quite sure how I bent it though.
I managed a small repair, but I still have to angle the charger slightly to get it on. Everything still works for at the moment, so I don't think that I will get it repaired.
Nearly forgot, this is my first post so hello to everyone!
i had the same problem
they have send it away (where i bought it (camera/phone shop) ) and i got a new motherboard
fixed now

now if only one of those bad boys carried an audio signal we'd be in business for a nice car docking station!

HTC Sensation has stopped charging

My HTC Sensation, has stopped charging altogether. I took it off charging and when i put it on 10 min later, the LED didnt light up, so i got a toothpick and tried cleaning thecharging port just in case something tiny went in and was blocking it to charge, but that didnt work. The phone was working fine until the battery died and i still cant get it to charge. Now im wondering whats broken, to all those repair specialists out there, what could be broken? I can buy a charging port from ebay, but is that it? or could it be anything else.
I was looking to upgrade soon but was waiting for some christmas deals to pop up, but my phone decided to let me down.
Any help appreciated, thanks guys

Did you solved the problem by buying a new phone?, the problem could be the USB connector himself, if you are very handy you can repair it yourself...

maybe your battery died
I'm assuming you've got it fixed / moved on to a different phone / are using an external charger, but this thread got bumped to the top so I figured I'd chime in.
I had this problem as well. Unfortunately, the usb port is soldered on the board and not a separate unit attached via ribbon cable. The solder joint holding the port on the pcb cracked, resulting in a loose port. Over time, this lead to the pins breaking off the pcb. For a while, I was able to get it to charge by applying pressure to the usb plug. Finally, I took it apart and resoldered it, reinforcing the solder joints for the port itself. It's not too difficult if you use some flux. Just line up the pins and tack the port back on. Then rub flux over the pins and tack them with the soldering iron. No additional solder is needed or recommended-- the pins are in close proximity and it'd be easy to bridge them.

Screen Flex Cable fort Cube iWork10

Dear everybody,
I recently bought a cube tablet, which after not even 6 months is broken. The Display was not working, when pressing on the back cover it switched back on. Thinking it was a loose connector, I opened the case and realized that it was not a loose connector but a broken cable. When moving the cable, the display switches on and off.
I contacted the sller (gearbest) and the only help I could get was the option to send it back for repair (but I've opened it and it would be rather expensive) or a $20 refund. I asked for the broken part, which they cannot supply.
Now I am looking for a flex vable to repair the bl**dy thing myself, but I cant find it online. Does anybody know where to buy a cable? I can provide a photo and the product number if necessary.
Cheers!

I'm going slightly mad or the case of unsuccessful diagnosis

For some time I had problems with the mic, flickering display and non-responsive touch. I have opened the phone to reseat the flex connection and it has only worsened the problem: the display would not turn back anymore.
I have ordered a new flex cable and the problem persists... but I have a problem with diagnosis. The thing is the motherboard seems to work correctly, as I can find the phone with the Google site (although I cannot play the sound?). On the other hand, before the flex replacement the display would show colorful static, so it does not seem to be physically damaged by my repairs. What else could it be, then? For a while I thought that maybe it is the flex plug on the motherboard, but then the phone is seen as Nexus 5 through USB, so at least some of the data are going through from the USB port to the motherboard...
Without having another working screen, it would be tough to pinpoint the problem.
I do not have another working screen... or so I thought. I have connected the phone through HDMI to my TV and it seems to work, except it is very, very slow. This makes the screen issue more likely.
I agree.
Even a screen that shows scrambled images or static doesn't necessarily mean it's functional.
I've gone through this myself in trying to decide which to buy first: a screen or motherboard.
I have ordered a new display - no luck... It turns out it was the motherboard after all, more specifically, the port for the flex cable. It became more evident when part of the port fell off during the screen replacement...

Sorry to hear that.
I recommend looking for a cheap Nexus 5 with a broken screen and working motherboard for a cheap price.
