I donno...between 3 and 3.5 hours roughly. Pretty fast.
I'm using stock charger that came with phone.
No light indicator to indicate charging or fully charged? I've been charging via USB and it gets to 94%, so fully charged and stops charging. That's as high as it will get...
About to go work out, going to put it on wall charger and see what happens!!
Anyone else have this problem or just me because of the usb charge?
Mine only goes upto 94% br well with the wall charger.

Mine goes to 96% typically and I've once seen it reach 97%, it's a bug, not a safety feature. As a safety feature, to prevent it from overcharging, it's supposed to charge up to 100% then stop charging until it reaches a safety level such as 95% then resume charging again. This is just a bug in the system.
Takes me just over 3 1/2 hours from dead to fully charged.
Mine goes up to 98%. Once in a while it will go up to 99%.

1500mAh/700mA = 2.1h, i.e. less than 2h.
It will never (ever) reach 100% if your charger and phone is working correctly. It IS a safety feature. Eventhough the phone is connected to the charger, it still uses battery to run. The charger stops charging when it gets close to 100% and charges some more when it's safe to do so. Meanwhile the phone uses the battery to stay alive and if you unplug it between theese charging cycles it will be anything between ~93 and ~99%.
It seems like forever honestly with this phone. My Evo would charge in about an hour and a half. This phone takes easily 3.5 hours if not more.
For some reason Samsung chargers take longer to charge a phone.
If I use my HTC charger the phone charges a lot quicker

HTC chargers are typically 1000mah and samsung chargers are 700mah... So there's the difference.
what is up with this phone i went to sprint got a new battery not knowing this was an issue of not getting to 100%. i came from att and having the htc inspire kinda like the evo i guess it would fully charge in about an hour and last me about 12 hrs of actual use. the nexus s takes about 3 hours to fully charge and i get about 5 hours with 0% brightness im thinking about going back and returning the phone.

While I do not what is draining your battery so quickly, the reason for the charge time is stated in the post above yours. The charger that came with the Nexus S is a 700mAh charger, while many others (notably HTC's) use the full 1000mAh charge possible on a MicroUSB line. More power over the same amount of time = faster charging.

how many hours of battery do you get normally?
I got to say via. Battery is a lot better than my desire hd.
This only has a 1230Mah battery. Still can't believe it lol

Mine usually stops charging between 92 and 96 percent. I thought mine took a while to charge until I read somewhere that draining the battery completely leads to faster recharging times. I didn't keep track or anything but it does SEEM to charge faster now.

but the battry cant hold charge for atleast 1 day!!
it usage is about 1 - 2 % charge in every houre!
i do workinig for example 10 minutes with the phone for setting ant etc .and then i saw the 4-6 % of battry charge go down!
or sometimes the phone is puting on standby for 30-40 mintunes
with no sms or calls,but its use about 6 % of battry chage!!!!!
and for wifi and games its even faster that it!
finally for a normal usage like 10-20 sms ,15 min call ,30 min browsing phone menues and apps and 20 web,
its going to be full empty!
and its meaning it cant keep charging for atleast 1 day!

Ok, so I've been experiencing this for the past few weeks now, and I'm getting sick of it. I plug up my phone to charge it overnight, or just to charge it when I know I will be in a place for a while. After a while, the phones battery will say 100%. But when I take the charger out, the battery isn't fully charged. It IMMEDIATELY jumps down to around 40% - 70%. I can get it fully charged after unplugging and replugging the charger in, sometimes numerous times of unplugging and replugging. Also, my battery has died on numerous occasions on between 10% - 15%. I calibrated my battery the first day I got it (as a replacement) and got decent juice from it, a noticeable improvement from the old battery. Am I the only one experiencing these issues? Is there a fix for it???
*NOTE* I'm on my 2nd battery (replacement) and this is also a replacement phone. Also running GummyCharged 1.8 GBE on EP1Q, RFS, w/Minimal Gummy theme, if that matters. Also, its not just my phone, my wifes Charge phone has the same setup and it does it also. So it may just be something wrong Gingerbreak. Never did it on FroYo. Gonna Odin back to FroYo and report back.

This is because you cannot leave the phone plugged in to charge for an extended period of time. Once the battery reaches 100%, it stops charging. It will start charging again later, after the percentage goes down to a certain set level. This is why you have the huge initial drop-off after taking it off the charger. If you want to leave the phone plugged in for an extended period of time, turn it off and plug it in to allow it to charge, then it won't discharge as quickly. Otherwise, this is normal behavior for all android phones, and trying to make it so that the phone stays at 100% full charge is bad for both the battery and phone.
I've been having some strange problems. My phone will die with between 4-8 percent battery left. I can turn it back on and once it drops another percent or two it will turn off again. I have calibrated it and my battery life is good but this is a strange issue. Upgrading to rc2 today.

I have the exact same problem. It will just go from 50% to 100% in a second and then unplug and plug back in to make it work. i haven't been able to figure it out either. 2nd phone and 2nd battery as well with same issue. I guess it has to do with my habits somehow.

I believe the use case he is suggesting is a little different than what you are describing. When the phone is plugged in at say 12%, it charges for a while and gets to say 63%. At that point it jumps to 100% immediately. The phone must then be unplugged from the charger and re-plugged in and then it will continue properly to 100%.
Hopefully that is a little clearer.
I mean, usually I turn it off to charge. And I have that No Moar Powah app installed. So I set it to reboot at 100%, it does and when I take the charger out, it immediately drops to between said percentages. almost like clockwork. Very annoying. I understand what u mean Imnuts, but my Vibrant, HD2, or others never experienced this issue. Also, my first Charge, would keep a charge if I left it on the charger once it hit 100%. Maybe an issue with the charger itself? A Verizon rep told me to bring in the charger itself if the issue persists.

Hmm i have the opposite of that problem every time i unplug my phone from charging overnight the battery meter would always read 100% never below that.
Also does anyone know which battery meter i should follow for battery calibration? The battery meter in the status bar, the battery level in system settings/about phone/status, the battery percentage at the lock screen or the battery meter on the screen when the phones off? They're all giving me different readings for some odd reason.
Sometimes I get that too, but for the most part, its the false readings from the lockscreen, and the about phone settings. I may send off for a new phone, run stock for a few days to calibrate my battery then root on a full charge.

I see what you're saying, but on the other hand I charge my phone overnight with no problems. Never did this before, but I don't have time to sit around for 6 hours for it to charge

Well I went back to FroYo GummyCharged v1.9 and lo and behold, the charging issues VANISHED. Charged my phone overnight last night and when I removed the charger, 100%. No drop immediately back down to 56% or some weird number. Maybe its a Gingerbreak leak issue. I've noticed that it only happens to my phone on Gingerbread. Also must mention, my wifes phone does it also. She's on Gingerbread. She complains that I broke her phone lol.
*EDIT* CONFIRMED. 2nd nite in a row, no issues charging.

Imnuts...ill have to disagree with you. This is the only android phone I've had this problem on, and I've had 6 different android phones. also, it only started happening for me when i went to Gingerbread. Going to flash back to Froyo and i will update.

Same here with me. It only started when I went to Gingerbread. Also happened on my wifes phone, also on GB. I went back to FroYo 2 days ago, and boom, no more charging issues. I can leave it on all nite and not get the random percentage drops. I gotta calibrate my battery now.

So it was a Gingerbread bug (GingerBug???) right? My battery life seems way better also. 6+ hrs off the charger and I am sitting on 73%. Not bad for me.

The mis-information in this thread regarding Li-ion batteries is getting out of hand.
I think many of us are thinking about ni-cad batteries in which all the "bad" things we are talking about in this thread apply.
for a Li-Ion Battery, there is no "memory" effect. this means you can charge it at any point during the discharge phase. You also do not need to allow the battery to drain fully and charge to full to "condition" the battery. Li-Ion batteries can be charged at any point up to any point (from 30% to 70%, then 50% to 90%) and it will not effect the batteries performance.
Li-Batteries also do not suffer from overcharging. The charging circuits in cell phones will charge the battery until it is full, and then trickle charge from then on. And because Li-ion batteries do not have memories, this type of charging will not effect performance.
Li-Ion batteries can only be charged a finite number of times. However, the number of times does not translate to the number of times you happen to plug it in. The batteries have a rated number of "charge cycles", this is when the power from the battery has been exhausted and then re-filled. If you always charge your battery at 50% - 100% then every 2 charges you are using 1 full charge cycle. The batteries in the charge are 1600mAh and have approx 500 charge cycles. if you discharged and charged your phone from 0 to 100% every day, your battery would last 500 days before it would start to suffer from poor performance.
the OP in this thread is having software related issues related to the phone mis-representing the correct charge level of the battery, and then stopping the charge cycle prematurely.
Remember, it is perfectly OK, and expected of you to charge your battery as many times as you need to. Keep the thing on the charger any chance you get, it is not going to hurt it, its designed to be used that way. This is why Li-Ion took over as the battery tech of choice compared to Ni-cad.

This coming from a person WHO KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT is very beneficial to us. Knowing that there is no way to actually "condition" a Li-Ion battery means that us who are actually suffer from poor battery life either have defective units or defective batteries. I hear of this miraculous 2 day battery life, yet I struggle to get thru a full 7 or 8 hrs with moderate usage. And this is a replacement unit AND battery. None of my other phones had that issue of immediately droping percentages like that, so I figured it was a software issue, that's why I went back to FroYo to test it out. Seems I was right. Gingerbread has a software issue that keeps the battery on some phones from reaching a full charge. Also my phone would be boiling hot during the charging process. Since reverting back, I've had no issues. Thanks for the insight. Coning from a knowledgeable source, it means a lot. Thanks!!!

I've noticed that the battery meter will sometimes stay at 100% for a while and then all of the sudden drop to the actual percentage sometime later. A reboot after unplugging the phone will fix the problem and report the battery % at the correct level. I was wondering how many other people were experiencing this, or if it is just a hit or miss thing?
I'm still on stock, unrooted, no mods. It's a straight out of the box Skyrocket.
Also, does the problem remain after rooting, modding, etc.?
I asked this on the battery results thread in general, and only received one response, so I figured this would be better in Q&A.
I had the same issue, but it has only happened one or two times.
Showed 100% for hours then rebooted and it showed 73%
I don't know how long you've had your phone, but it takes several cycles from full to empty for the battery to calibrate correctly. During that time you can get some really funky readings on it.
I am experiencing the same problem.
I've also had a hard time charging the phone. I've left it plugged in upwards of 18 hours, only to find it saying its only 83% charged. That may just be another symptom of the same problem though.
Do you think this is a phone or a battery issue?

That sounds like you were plugged into a pc vs ac power and had heavy usage during that time.
Mine charges very quickly when at idle and plugged into the wall.
I've had my phone since the day it launched (the 6th) and just experienced this for the first time yesterday. It was indeed quite odd to see.
I have had this happen one time. I also noticed the phone got very hot.
It actually happend yesterday, stayed at 100% almost all day then just shut off and wouldnt reboot.... freaked me out!!

I have had this issue only when using an old iphone wall charger have. i can charge with any of our multiple other chargers with no issue....i use a usb cable plugged onto that apple wall charger and it happens every single time

I think that the battery is pretty wonky. I am not sure if the NFC addition is causing these issues but some people are having amazing life ans some people (me included) get horrible. I am getting a warranty exchange on my battery. No way I should drop 12% in an hour and 20 minutes when the only usage is 19 minutes of checking email. If I have to have it plugged in every time I turn around it is not exactly a wireless device now is it?

i think that u just solved my and many more ppl's problem i am using the same iphone wall charger and i just plugged my usb in there and the battery wouyld stay at 100% all day long and when i connect the charger it says "disconnect charger battery is full" but i think this will solve my problem man thank u very much for posting this ! im glad ive read it because this is the my second galaxy s2 with the same problem i went to the warranty and the exchange it but still the same problem so now i know it HAS to be the iphone charger!!

Had my phone for almost a month. Rooted only on stock ROM. Just took it off USB cable from laptop an hour and a half ago.

I had the same issue. But I read on a thread that cause is that u use a charger & cable that is not Samsung. I had tested and it is true. If u charge with the charger it will befine

I think we narrowed it down to being a bad charging circuit in the phone or battery triggered by a .1a charger.
When we got our new skyrockets they stopped doing it.

I was powering my phone off, plugging the power in and allowing it to recharge. The phone would automatically power on as soon as I connected the power but I didn't think that mattered. It turns out it did. If I powered the phone on and then connected the power, the battery meter would work correctly.
This was different the Captivate I had previously. That phone had the capability to charge while powered off. There was even a charging graphic that displayed while the phone was off.
The Skyrocket did not have this same feature when I originally bought it. However, ATT did an update at some point and now it does. I've been unable to re-create the stuck battery gauge since that update.
please only use the charger that came with the phone. other chargers, after prolonged usage, may cause issues.

From day 1 with the skyrocket, I have used an old wall charger and cable and had this problem daily. I plug it in at night and in the morning, it's at 100% until I reboot, or some other random event that drops the percentage to the real battery stats.
Because of this thread, I dug out the box and used the wall charger and cable that came with it, and this morning shortly after unplugging the phone, it was at 99% and dropping, just as it should. Very glad I tried this.

I did a recheck of my black cube SR wall charger (Samsung part # ETA0U80JBE).. It is NOT .1a it is 1.0amps - which - interestingly enough is EXACTLY what my iPhone3g power cube right next to it delivers.
The .7am Samsung charger has the usb connector on the side, and is part number ETA0U60JBE - delivering 5v at .7 amps (30% decrease over the little cube device). That was the charger my SGS-II had. My S/R came with the 1.0 amp ETA0U80JBE version.
One amp will charge the phone MUCH faster than the USB port. Per the spec, the typical USB device cannot drain more than 500mA (1/2 of what the power cube supplies to the phone).
Unfortunately Apple and Samsung both have the cubes pretty well locked up, so I cant compare the components, but at a first glace they appear to be absolutely identical, both putting out about 5.1 volts at zero load.

Phone goes into trickle charge when nearing/at full. No problems with overnight charging.

This might have been true in the past with older battery/charging technologies, but isn't true anymore.
The capacity of the battery will go down over time with normal use. Unless you plan on keeping your phone for 10 years, I wouldn't worry about it.
My S10e is like a week old now and I was charging using the fast charger and assumed everything is on track. When battery hits low like 10% and I put on charge, it says 1hr 30mins or so remaining until full but it's taking way more time that that. Today I noticed that my dad's S9 Plus charges way faster with the same S10e Fast Charges, I am confused and not able to understand why this is happening. If I am on 90% and I charge S10e it says 10-15 minutes to complete the charge and takes that much time approx, when I put S9 Plus on the same with 10%, says 3 minutes until full and finishes it in around 4mins. Why is this disparity?
Also, I did charge my S10e initially with the MacBook charges as I read it's safe but my phone never charged on time and heated the phone so I switched to Original charger. What can be done to fix my issue.

Not sure if it's any consolation, but same sort of scenario with my note 9 compared to the s10.

I had my phone wirelessly fast charging overnight (I know...), the phone was at 100% in the morning when my alarm went off, but once I took the phone off the wireless charger the phone powered off and was at 0% battery. Has happened twice. I now have wireless fast charging disabled.
