I am in no way going to point out people because that is wrong but could everyone try to have a little more organization with their post? I know that mods will agree when I say that there are questions in the development section that should not be there . And please search before you post a new topic because I can think on a couple of simple issues there are three or four post on the issue. I love trying to lend help to people and it is just a lot easier if I only have to post how to help with battery life on one thread instead of four. And once again, I'm not trying to upset people, I think it would benefit the captivate and even galaxy s users as a whole if we used a little better organization skills :-D

True, what might help is a Q&A or FAQ stickied with common questions, or howto's... that not only explain howto, or answer the questions but also link to current threads that discuss the topic in greater detail...
I agree. A q&a would help a lot . Or even possibly a whole how to section for simple things like optimization.

Hey!
First of all sorry if this is a repost, but i just can't really figure things out on my own.
I have a samsung galaxy s 4g branded to t-mobile. I had a paranoid android rom installed, but it drained my battery quite a bit and i crashed a lot of times. Now i decided to simply install the stock rom, which works good for me. The only problem is that it my phone won't recognize my sim card. I had this problem before, but after installing a custom rom it worked fine.
Can somebody please tell me a good, stabile rom for the sgs4g, that doesn't drain the battery too much? Also i would need some instructions on how to get the rom installed properly.
Thanks for your help!
all roms use battery
hmm
Well yeah. But some do more and some less, right? I am just looking for a rom that is stabile and doesnt crash all the time. i am not looking for a unofficial beta or something, just for something that works, you know what i mean? :/
Try barebones, it works great for me. Its based off the stock GB rom so its really stable

i installed cyanogenmod 9 yesterday, and i made a soft reset. Now my sim card works again, but the wifi signal is really bad. I will try out the barebones one
To go to stock ROM :
Use - Heimdall One Click posted here.
Try it and if you want some more features, while maintaining stock look and feel - I recommend using Barebone - here.

Nevertheless i guess my problem is solved so this thread can be closed so that all of you are happy
I've read your post , alright. It is nothing but a mere facade for your exploitation. You apologized ahead tells me that you knew that your question probably had been answered already in this forum, and yet you continued to post it. Rather than searching the forum, you resorted an easy route with an initial hollow apology and irrelevant reasons as a cover up of your real intention.

Nobody is saying not to help newbs here. You have misread the discussion here. It is not a matter of bothersome, it is much to do with the newbs showing interest in this community by first reading the threads. By posting the same question over and over again just showed me that these newbs are here for a quick answer and leave. And on the Net we have a term for that, they are considered "leechers."
There are many other newbs in this forum, and they don't act in this manner. I am always happy to help them within the scope of my knowledge.
When you say "if the post bother me then just move on," it tells me that either you are trying to avoid this issue and/or haven't put much thought in this matter.

I don't post to their questions with a rant...I simply ignore the post and move on,or help if I so choose.

THIS!
Either ignore the post and report it or just dont effing respond. Look at what woody said in the quote I posted above.
People need to learn to use the brain function called ignore. If people would just report posts/threads and not post some snarky retort threads would stay focused. But I digress.
One more thing, sometimes plane answer is the shortest way to close the discussion ...

AOKP has been perfectly stable, and given good battery life on both mine, and my wife's SGS4G's. She was running Valhalla Final and having constant reboots. Ran Gremlin Remover, and worked up to installing AOKP. Neither unit has had a single force close or reboot. I also swapped my stock OEM battery (which was going bad and part of the reason for the instability in my phone) which is 1650 mAh with an Anker 1800mAh battery. I can now get by on one charge a day, which is nice......there are likely some which are much more slim, but all depends on what your needs are.
Hi everyone..
Let me tell who I am not able to speak english very well ( Stupid Italian school)..
So ..
I would ask you if there is any cool Rom that is possible to have a better benchmark score and much battery's life than Stock ROM..
I have Rom Stock with Franco Kernel..
So i have many questions..
first: Do you suggest me any Custom ROM?
Second: Do you suggest me any better kernel as fast as possible?
Third: It's better Dalvik or Art?
Oh,i'm so sorry for my language,but..i hope who you are able to undestand me.. sorry
Thanks for all!
Have a nice day!
right above your thread is this wonderful thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/best-rom-kernel-threads-t2477889
anyways, since these threads arent allowed on xda, i suggest that you read up and try some roms/kernels. theres no best, only what fits you and your phone best. and only you would be able to figure out which it is. we all have differing needs and wants, and out phones all react differently to these roms/kernels, so spend some time trying them out yourself.

As simms said above, we don't allow these types of threads here. Try a few ROM's and kernels out. There are many great things happening in the development section.

Hello guys
which combination of rom and kernel scores the best battery life?
It's simple:
Kernel: Usage differs
Rom: Questions Belong in Q&A based on 4.4
Sorry if my answer may be 'cocky' but we've got a special section on XDA for questions and answers.

Use the search feature in xda, there are many tips for battery improvement.
On other hand, i get 5 hours 30mins SOT on wifi and 4 hours SOT on 4G with stock rom and with medium usage.
No matter what you do, flashing diff rom/kernel won't get you any proper battery improvement. Just stick with stock rom and wait for Android L for a better battery performance and usage.
Yes stick with stock..
Battery is nothing to do with ROM and kernel combination. It is to do with ROM and kernel settings.

Read the first 4 posts in the battery thread in my signature.
And as pointed out above....roms/kernels make a very minor, if any difference to battery life.
Setup, usage and signal strength are the main factors. ?

If there was anything that was "best for battery life", wouldn't someone have been able to prove it by now?
I guess it doesn't help with so many claiming their new ROM/kernel has greatly increased their battery time. Subjective opinions with out proper testing shouldn't be taken as fact though.

think about how many people using any kernel/rom claim that its the best for battery. then again, there are just as many people that claim that the certain kernel/rom give them the same battery life. in reality though, its all about you. how you use your device, how you set it up, which apps you use, etc. but there is one variable that you have no control over, thats the quality of your phone/data connection. and that will determine what is the best battery possibility is for you. if your phone/data signal isnt good quality, then your battery life will always suffer, no matter what.
9 times out of 10....it's the flashing the new Rom and or kernel that clears out an undiagnosed battery issue they had and magically their battery life seems awesome on the new Rom or kernel. ?

Yep. Maybe someone(hint hint) should start an "All-in-one Best thread". Since the reversal of XDA policy I would much rather see all this nonsense contained to one singular thread than reposted in different forms every six hours. I would do it but I'm lazy and wouldn't be able to give that thread the attention it deserves. Just some food for thought.

It's been suggested to do that, like the N7 2012 has had for awhile....but the individual threads are still allowed and preferable to one dedicated thread.
That was told to me. Reason is the "best" questions usually come with something else. Not just "best Rom"....usually best for this or that....or comparing this to that.
I like the one thread idea....but it what it is and those resisting it are best to let it go and ignore the threads if that's their choice.
That was also said by moderators.
Just letting everyone know. ?

I asked for some rules. Eg "what ROM has this feature set" = yes, ambiguous best threads = no.
However we probably shouldn't hijack these threads to discuss it.
Everyone with suggestions pm a helpful mod such as @El Daddy and maybe we'll get a compromise, but for now let's just answer the threads with the usual answers

Anyone asking questions like this should stick to stock rom and kernel.
If you can't be bothered to actually use some roms and kernels and tell us what you think how can you evaluate an answer?
Also, obviously you are getting into a touchy area and rejecting anything rom/kernel devs can have to say about it. You want them to come here and battle it out for you?
There is no such thing as best, and many of the custom roms and kernels make a good combo. Look at the rom and kernel threads and decide which gives you the options you want.
Hi, I'm completely new to the forum and a complete novice coder (even novice is an overstatement).
I'd like to develop an app that involves photo stitching, panoramic functions and some other cool features that can be discussed after securing an NDA.
I'm currently working on a wire frame and graphic design for buttons, icons, GUI, etc, but need someone who is good at programming these types of apps, initially for Android, later porting to iOS.
Any and all recommendations for specific individuals, dev teams or companies would be greatly appreciated. I'm an individual entrepreneur with a little capital, but far from "deep pockets", so unfortunately, cost is a big factor. Looking for best bang/buck. Thanks fellas!
Nobody care to help out a noob? It'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks, but I'm getting the feeling that this forum is more for devs to discuss coding itself, and not so much find jobs coding. I think I'll try my luck on Craigslist. Thanks for the help though.
