[Q] [TASKER] Getting details of App Installed/Uninstalled/Updated - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I am creating a system log using Tasker. Through the 'Event' context , i can detect when a package is installed/uninstalled or updated. However, i cannt see any variable that can retrieve the name of the package so modified. is there any way to retrieve the information?
i am having Rooted Nexus 5 runnning stock 4.4.2.

You need to create the task and variable to assign to the profile.

Using which variable? I don't think there is a tasker variable that retrieves recently changed package information. there is an Event Context that detects change. But I want to get the name of the package

Check your settings in Accessibility -> Text-to-speech output. You need "Google Text-to-speech Engine" enabled and selected.

And check your settings in Google Now, maybe you accidentally turned off text-to-speech there.

[MOD] AT&T LG G2 KitKat Smaller Navigation Bar and Disable CarrierIQ

Disclaimer: I typically modify to meet my own needs, on my own time, for my own device. This means that it might not be a mod meant for everyone, nor has it been thoroughly tested by anyone but myself. Use at your own risk.
Description: Modifies framework-res.apk in /system/framework to disable the loading of CarrierIQ on start-up as well as shrink the margins on the navigation bar for a little more screen real estate. This has only been tested and used on Stock AT&T LG G2 4.4 KitKat.
Link: https://db.tt/IoEgdIsr
Instructions: Back-up your current framework-res.apk in /system/framework then replace it with this one.
Notes:
CarrierIQ no longer shows 7 running processes via System Tuner on boot. To me, this indicates it is no longer being loaded. Otherwise, if you want, you can use System Tuner -> System -> Android System [Details] -> uncheck each of 7 CarrierIQ processes to do it manually.
This is a simple dimens.xml modification. Nothing major.
After replacing file with root explorer I went into a boot loop... Now I am afraid that I am going to have to completely restore my phone.
I know this is pretty straight forward but your file didn't work.
need to know if anyone was successful with this mod yet. do not want to go into a bootloop or force closes.
Also waiting for others to confirm this working first.
If only Xposed were working.
gonna flag this because it just crashes phones..... i just did it and i really dont think its funny.

i am actually kind of mad that this messed up my phone and took multiple tries to get into download mode. now i have to redo everything.
This work perfect for me, here how i did it
First backup my framework apk
second i copied the mod framework apk to system folder
then i set 644 permission for it
finally i move and replace it to framework folder
restart rightaway and it work
thanks OP for the mod file
btw maybe you should shrink the navbar a little less, it way too thin in my opion

This works great. Use root explorer and set permissions. Don't forget to make a nandroid backup if you can.
Download the apk from OP, then:
1. I copied over the framework after renaming it. (I just added a 2 at the end)
2. Then I set permissions (I just checked all the boxes... why not). At this point it would be a good idea to backup your original framework apk in case you want to restore.
3. Then I named it properly and over wrote the original (removed the 2)
4. I rebooted.
I somewhat disagree with the post above, I wouldn't mind it being a little smaller.
I am running this on the D800 running the androiduser's power user D802 base ROM.
@burningembers can you make one that will get rid of the volume and brightness sliders? Thanks!

the Navbar is fine in portrait but if you put the phone in landscape and you'll see the icon on it doesnt fix, it still ok but look amateur
Thanks heatshiver the nav bar smaller is nice. I'm still detecting Carrier IQ though .. Doing it manually with android tuner I would disable all of the items under android system? Thanks again bud
Edit: you probably already have this info but just in case or anyone else wanting to take a crack at totally disabling it (if possible)

thanks for this mod. I'll try this tonight after I flash the rom. I wouldn't mind a smaller nav bar too if you ever think of making another one.
This is a great mod, but remember that you cannot FULLY remove Carrier IQ from the ATT ROM. You can disable the services and prevent them from running which is what this does, and maybe it stops it all and maybe it doesnt IDK. But there is carrier IQ embedded into the UI code, the keyboard code, the messaging app code, etc. The only way to truly not have any Carrier IQ on your phone is to not run an ATT base ROM.
Thats weird cause i moved the framework mod into system/framework and set the permissions to rw--r--r and my screen started force closing and when i rebooted it stayed on the lg logo. Will try again later tonight
If you use adb you could push then reboot or if you're on a rom that has recovery you could create a zip.
Do you need to be rooted for this?

It worked perfectly for me when I did it the way above. I also went back to the original framework using this method. I'm not sure what you are doing wrong but at this point just use xposed (the Chinese leak found in the general section) and the G2 xposed module. That's what I am doing and I have a small nav bar.
Don't be mad at us, we were just reporting something we did that worked. If a few of us got it working and you did the problem is somewhere on your end not ours. So don't blame us, we gain nothing from lying. It may just be the ROM you are using
EDIT: it appears they closed that Chinese xposed thread for some reason. You may want to check out why but here is the link to the apk http://pan.baidu.com/s/1mgFNFc8 I haven't had any issues but it may cause issues with the lg launcher. Use this at you own risk... Good luck

[Q] How To Change Carrier Name On Android 5.0 Lollipop (ROOT)

Does anyone know how to change carrier name on Lollipop with root. If so, could you please share? Thanks in advance!
I would also like to know this as well. I want to change the carrier name in Statusbar on Lockscreen & in Quicksettings.
Do you want to change the carrier or just change the name of your current carrier

Try this app https://www.dropbox.com/s/6cph9kli9x73tek/Carrier_Name_1.2.apk?dl=0 after downloading install it, if you downloaded on pc just put it onto your phone via usb cable, after its done installing open it and you can change the carrier name on there, after changing the name reboot your device and the name will be changed. Don’t use any special characters because it will be used in an xml file so for example a double quote sign will break the file. GL :thumbup:

Not working on rooted nexus 6
Try this:
1)Install a file manager and access the root folder
2)Then perform a search in the root folder for “build.prop” or check in the system folder in the root folder for it
3)enable read/write if not already enabled then edit the file in a text editor
4)scroll until you find the option you want and edit it by typing the new carrier name in the old one's place
5)save changes and reboot device
Accessing and modifying build.prop can be dangerous if you change the wrong setting so make a backup of the old version just in case.
Sometimes there is more than two of the same item in the file so if you find it and have changed it look again for more to change.
Hi!

Marshmallow/Gmail issue with Exchange/ActiveSync GAL

Office 365 ActiveSync directory (GAL) search no longer works on Android 6.0 (i flashed factory image)
- Exchange account is setup in GMail (worked fine in Android 5.1.1)
- Contacts show (just not those in the GAL as their name/email address are typed in)
- There are no errors, warning messages, or animations to show that it is searching the global address list/book
Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks!

Same here. I updated to Android 6.0 and Gmail with an Office 365 account is no longer working. I already deleted the account and recreated the account. No luck.
This is alledgedly permissions, I think if you dirty flash, there are no problems (I wiped, then installed)

Same issue here - no idea why gmail app isn't activesyncing or doing GAL lookups anymore. Ideas?
I have same issue. GAL lookup no longer works in Gmail. Is there a bug, or is account setup wrong?

If u really need it bad, some say that it worked fine with upgrade from 5.1.1. But when they did factory reset, it broke.
You could flash 5.1.1 set up your accounts, and then do OTA.

check your sdcard/media folder ..... been a looong time since I had a new device or one w/o root [usually you get them from root > system > media .... and/or from a system dump of the entire device]
Just found the media [yes, ringtones & notifs, etc] folder -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/themes/media-folder-t3689623
someone on reddit upped the to gdrive ... https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B3KWUOmX_cdGRkVpZ2xUdnpoNG8

Can anyone get the Pixel 2 UI sounds (including that new charging sound) from Android P DP2?
