You cant beat usabilety and speed of CM7 based roms I currently use Oxygen ROM 2.3.2 wihich is very light and stable but also would reccomend gingerdx because it has a few added features and looks like ICS or JB if you download and add acheps JB theme to it
Minimal and most stable - 2.3.7 GB is what you are looking for.

On GB they are oxigen rom, and gingerDX
on ICS i use placebo rom. for me its the most stable.
but since you want a fast rom stay with GB
Gingersnap...best till date...great camera quality
Do not underestimate Mukulsoni's Kitkat ROM for our old faithful friend. Stable and smooth. Also the latest droid:good:

I disagree.
WLAN is crap in his rom. there are several ppl who have the issue but he doesnt give a **** and focuses on completly wrong things. like OTA update....who the f*ck needs this? if i have to flash it with recovery first time, then i can do it again with a new version. nobody needs this ota **** wasting space on the phone.
And when he says "the rom is smooth and fast". It feels like my grand ma with the rollator can beat this "fast" rom!
i try the oxygen roms next hopfully there no such issues.
EDIT: AND he doesnt give the option for ppl like me who doesnt want use Link to SD or AD2Sdx to disable it.
Let's Agree to disagree my Friend!

The CM11 WIFI problem on LG Optimus One has solution. first i have t say "Mukulsoni" IS DOING GREAT!! bringing the KitKat to P500 is really something, man!!! the ROM is not as much fast as CM7 is, BUT it's still smooth and KitKat BEAT'S anyway!
we need to accept that P500 does not meet the minimum system requirements for KitKat (internal memory, CPU speed and so..) and if we consider this, show's how much fast is his ROM!!
The CM11 WIFI problem on LG Optimus One is Real :crying: !! I faced it.. but also solved the problem!!
If you set "United States" in [Settings >WIFI >Advance >WIFI Region Code ] it will fix your problem! :cyclops:
the bug is where that you cannot keep this setting!! every time you reboot the device, you need to do it again! but, not a big deal to me anyway.
also there's this Thread which help you get rid of WIFI reconfiguring each time after reboot, by using this WiFix App .
:good: I wish you the best, my bro. :good:
When will you people learn? Bragging about Kitkat "oh look at me I got the newest Android - its not stable, still in development lots of buggs, lagg as hell, little storage and little free RAM, but hey at least I got the newest..".
Besides this cons as long as the dev is unofficial it will never be good as CM9.
Do as you wish, I've said this a couple of times, expecially when JB 4.3 dev came up, people said the same stuff. I don't care about you using KITKAT, but don't make a good commercial about a bad product to non-dev users.

There is no lag. The only lag with kitkat launcher but not a deal, can be beaten with Holo or Nova launchers.
There is no RAM shortage. Learn about Link2sd. I have some 90MBs free now.
You cannot blame without evidence.
We are not fan of kitkat just because it is new. Mukulsoni done well. 3 years old phone now works way better than 2.3.x
I am not saying it is the best ROM, but not deserving such criticism.
Have fun!
ROMs
Tried many ROMs, but definitely can say that CyanogenMod 7 (by FitAmp) is the best. OxygenROM seemed not so good for me. I don't really know why. It seemed that the battery was going down too fast when I used it, maybe It's just me. In CyanogenMod 9 (hephappy 9.2.3) I had issue with SD-Card that would keep unmounting. CyanogenMod 10 was quite good. Phone slept well, but It was a bit laggy for me. I haven't tried CyanogenMod 11 because of many unneeded (for me) "features".
TL;DR
CM7 is the smoothest in performance and best in battery for me.
CM10 is coolest in UI , battery last long if you don't use the phone that much, but sometimes laggy.
CM9 have this weird sd-card issue FOR ME (only few O1 phones have this OR It's just bad sd-card ).

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHA.
No lag ey? C'mon I know you're lying.
RAM and Storage are two different things, learn to defer between.
Link2SD Am using it since like forever, I was going to mention a fact that besides the user-installed apps are on SD they still use internal data but I'll double check this.
Evidence? Check the whole thread. I stopped experimenting since JB as I saw in order to run newer android, system will take more and more from our phone's resources. And still checking dev by-the-way.
IT WORKS BETTER THEN 2.3.X? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA
You just made my day xD
PS: If GB supported Greenify and other alike apps I would never leave GB. Am only on ICS because of Android compatibility.

Agreed.
Btw since I don't have this SD-card issue it's only your phone.
Play around a little and perhaps it can be fixed. (do know how to clean-install a new rom?, did you tried formating sdcard in any way and did you tried formating it trough different recoveries?(for example, on 4.2.2 JB I found a fix for non-working sdcard on partitioned sdcard and partitioning it trough diff recovery fixed that issue) etc etc.)
Thread Closed, there shouldn't be any discussion about Best. Fastest ROM/Kernel

I apologize as I'm sure there is another thread but I couldn't find it through the search. I am looking for suggestions on a custom ROM, Stability, Performance, Battery Life, Hopefully with increased jpeg quality, and full camera performance. I use my phone on WiFi quite a bit so it would be a plus if the rom had amplified the WiFi to like 15 or 20db.
I'm uncertain as to the development of ICS on this device, But I just came from ICS on my Optimus One which ultimately lead to my device being bricked randomly after beta testing. I absolutely loved ICS, but if the rom isn't stable enough to use as a daily driver then I would rather wait... (and by stable I mean past alpha status, functional beta is stable for me... I did tons of beta testing for Optimus One so I know what to expect as far as stability goes with works in progress)
So if you guys could link me to some of the best ROMS for this device it would be much appreciated.
Good question, this is my second rooted device so my exp. is limited, and ive tried several roms pyroice desensed 1.1.2 most recently and i couldnt get the web browser to load (which oobviously sux). But im runnin doubleshot lite and its pretty much the basic system debloated, and very stable

Which web browser were you using? I know that in the development for ICS for Optimus One, there was an issue with the stock browser and Cyanogenmod 9. I know that Opera or QQBrowser was their temporary solution.
My favorite rom is Bulletproof because it has all the features of our phone, and no bugs that I have noticed. I know alot of people prefer other roms because they are faster, or they are ics, but Bulletproof is the only one that hasn't cut out features, and it doesn't have alot of bugs....

Using the Bulletproof Rom, mostly because everything actually works.
Tried the an older Cyangen7 mod, but the battery got way too hot and could never charge beyond 40%
Tried the ICS rom and there are some apps that need to be re-sized, mounting the SD card as a flash drive doesnt work (not into paying 5$ for a widget), problems with wifi tethering to my wifes tablet.

Just for the record, skialaska, Blue6IX here is the one who created the Bulletproof ROM and I really have to agree with him on this. I feel that tbalden has been doing a great job of contributing a lot of time to multiple different ROMs for different demographics (sense vs nonsense vs cm9) and I really appreciate all of the effort that he has put into the development on this phone.
Personally, I don't like the Sense UI much, so Bulletproof isn't for me. I actually use tbalden's Pyroice desensed ROM. I do, however, respect greatly the amount of work that Blue6IX has put into developing a solid ROM and all the research into the limits of the machine in both speed and voltage.
If you can't respect the developers that donate all their free time to making our devices work better, then you probably don't belong here.

At this point, I think skialaska is just trolling. Best ignore him and move on, methinks.
Whew, had to do some serious cleanup... I know, part of it is my fault, I've been away (70hr weeks will do that to you).
Anyhoo, let's not bicker lest I have to close this thread. These "Best ROM" threads are always very polarizing and full of personal opinion - let's do our best to not attack others work, and just state what we feel is best and why. No need to put down other builds/ROM's because you don't like 'em!

Alien Mod Solar Flare

Hi WeekendsR2Short,
I couldn't find anywhere to mention this that I could post to since I'm a new member and can't post on the actual developer page for the Alien Mod Solar Flare that you created. I actually had more success with Play Store with the zip integrated with the GApps.
First off, I highly recommend this mod to anyone because of it's amazing speed. I installed it as an upgrade from 2.3.4 and I really don't want to go back. So, I want to keep it, but I've run into some problems that I need your help with. I hope I don't get banned or anything for posting this here. My apologies if this should go somewhere else.
1. Any web browser I use, stock or dolphin mini, crash after accessing pages. Chrome installs, but crashes when I load a page "Unfortunately, Chrome has stopped."
2. When loading, Netflix goes back to my apps list after a second on the red splash screen.
Steps taken during install:
1. Formatted sd card to ext4
2. Then I followed the install instructions listed on the main page in red and black using "AlienMod Solar Flare Series V XXX 4.1.2 (DS).zip" through clockwork mod
3. After the install, I "Then flush Dalvik & fix permissions" according to your later instructions.
Could my crashing apps be related to flash content not loading? I'm really stumped here.
Thanks again for your hard work and I truly appreciate any input because I really don't want to use any other rom!
Yeah, there was a browser issue that popped up for a few people. It just kinda appeared in the port & I never could figure out what it was or why it wasn't consistent. As for the apps....shoot give it a try your way. Then the next time thru recovery just flush dalvik & reset permissions then.
Good JB Roms
Just wanted to drop a line for other non-devs who may be experimenting with JB Roms, and share my experiences. A couple months back, I was using only SilverL ROMS (swapping back and forth between CM 10 and AOKP). SilverL is doing some great work and still highly stable. I've been playing with tbalden's CM 10.1 rom recently though, because it is finally as stable as SilverL's and seems to have slightly better battery life and the camera seems sharper--also good video playback.
If you're looking for a more blingy ROM, WeekendsR2Short's recent PACMan release looks excellent, and has the coveted Rings widget as stock. I loved the look, but the settings UI was awkward with the split screen, and I kept having the settings crash if I tried to manage storage. Still, sweet ROM if you like the visuals over some (admittedly very minor) functionality.
All in all, I think all three of these devs deserve serious props for the progress they've made in these last short weeks. I am having a really hard time deciding between SilverL's AOKP (since I like the look) and TBalden's slightly more bulky CM10.1. I'm leaning toward tbalden just because I won't have to either splice in more ringtones or rely on SD access to get some decent ones. Arbitrary, I know. Kudos to all.
Cheers,
Wulf
P.S., on a side note, my 13-yr-old really wants to learn coding, and I thought AOSP or AOKP might be a good place to play. Any suggestions for getting him started?

Agreed, I've checked the forums on and off for months looking for stable daily driver mods without issues I felt would prohibit use of this phone compared to the stock roms, but the stuff out now with JB is damn usable. I've been using SilverL's unofficial CM10.1 for a little over 2 weeks myself as well, have seen little bugs already get fixed in that little time, and have almost 0 issues with it as a daily driver. Amazing, amazing work being done in this place. I'd been on stock GB fully locked non-rooted phone before this. Now that I saw more and more apps are finally requiring 4.X or higher I figured I'd check and see what's available here, and was not in the least disappointed! Kudos to all those involved in the hard work going on here!
The best rom is any stock optomized rom....at the same time sense gets dull and boring too look at so jb will liven it up but it will break features such as the crispy clean sense camera or internet passthrough fast boot time and others...depending on your outlook on things the best may be the one with more tweaks...or the most stable...all in all jb does things sense stock can't....sense stock also does things jb can't do...my battle is the sense camera...my how ide love it in a jb rom

FROYO
Right now the most exciting ROM is the Sharp Froyo ROM by Bsydz - Everything works as far as I know, I think he also fixed the voice mail issue
http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...ed-sharp-2-2-2-triumph-updated-6-27-12-a.html
CM7
g60 style - final - This is a great ROM there is a few bugs but most users love this ROM as it's Gingerbread, HDMI does not work. There is also a handful of variants of the this ROM people have themed. The newest one, that is being built from source code is StarShip by chairshot215.
CM9
There is Mantera's CM9 which is a solid rom, however no Camera or HDMI. There is also AOKP by rukin5197 again no Camera or HDMI I have not installed that but I hear lots of cool features not offered on CM9.
G60 style is by far the best ROM as far as I'm concerned.
I am not a big fan of Froyo, but the Sharp ROM is smooth and everything works.
The CM9 stuff is pretty cool but not as fast or stable and the camera doesn't work.
If you want Ice Cream Sandwich, try the G60 style ROM with Holo launcher and the Cynocream theme. That's what I am running and the only difference I see is that there aren't widgets in the app drawer. Other than that, it is pretty much a complete ICS experience.
G60, I was going to post this in the Development forum, but apparently I am not allowed. I am also getting random reboots on your ROM. It never gets to the point of boot looping but it does reboot a couple of times a day. I also have been restoring all my apps and some app data with titanium backup. I will probably try reflashing and not using TB at some point to see if that works. I will let you know what I find. In the meantime, thanks for the awesome ROM! It made me happy to have this phone for the first time!

While I am a fan of Titanium I have found as I moved from g60 version to g60 version I started having more problems. Finally on my journey I recommend everyone do full wipes and dalvik. Then reload apps from Play Store. That always seems to put the issue to bed, it sucks because it's a lengthy process but that is a sure fire way to kill all problems.
Right now we have only 3 supported ROMs.
There are some others, but development has bees stopped, developers left or just putting things all hold.
The good news all ROMs are fully working! Well, almost.
1. Sharp ROM - almost Stock with a few goodies like fully working GPS and Tethering
2. CM7 g60 - as close as it can get to CM7 with all CM goodies minus HDMI and slow GPS. No updates but it is in progress, developers are here, still working, still coding.
3. StarShip - everything CM7 has + theme + few nice tweaks, frequent updates.
Yeah, the Sharp ROM is a port from the Sharp SH8188u. It is fully functional now with Ver6, just has 2 quick fixes that have to be done after you install the ROM. Other than that it is one of the fastest and smoothest options we have.
I was running G60's CM7 before I got the Sharp ROM working. It was very nice.
There are a few options out there but you just have to find what suits you and what you can live with and what you can't.
My current favorite is the CM7 Tickerguy Reloaded 3-25 FINAL! The g60 has some kind of wierd 360 launcher in chinese! The launcher and extra stuff does slow it down! I am currently in development for the Motorola Triumph! I have a new ROM that is called the GingerMOD. I will be tweaking the CM7 Tickerguy ROM!
As for FROYO: DON'T PICK FROYO! ITS SLOW AND BATTERY LIFE STINKS!
And there are no ICS ROMS out there with working camera yet sorry

Good ROM and a Side Note
Yeah, Starship is awesome! I highly reccommend it currently, as it has more of g60's tweaks (A GPS tweak, to be specific), than cm7-g60style even currently has in its stable form. The good news is that sometime in the future there will be a stable (not RC!) CM7 with rewritten device files, so a lot of the issues will be gone!
Beta ROMs
The latest beta mtdev.us release is great for me, at least. Although not everything is working yet, everything is smoother and much more stable. Also, no random reboots after about a week of usage (including leaving the phone on overnight several times). It's rock solid! :good:

I have been using first Helly bean as my first JB ROM. Though it was claimed that it was fast, I never realized the speed. The UI/bowser/almost every think was lagging. Next I tried CM10 the same story... first it feels fast by as time progress the same lag.
Today I installed LANIGHT. It is really fast.... unbelievably fast. I didn't know android on cappy can be this fast.
What other ROMs do you guys use are equally or better?
I'm giving it a look now.
I use Helly Bean and it is very fast with some slight lag when changing between apps, I imagine due to the apps using resources. App drawer and launcher are smooth.
My only issue is the datadata folder, only 172MB and it fills up right away. Even clearing cache and uninstalling the biggest apps, more stuff just comes in and takes up that free space.
May have to try a non datadata ROM but a user in the Lanight thread said the no datadata ROMs use 430MB partitions but they fill up even faster, so I'm not sure what my best option is for speed.

That was me... :cyclops:
Anyway... I can concur with the speed of this rom (LANight v2). I was a long time TeamNyx ICS RC5 user and I wanted a little change. Debated and decided to try CM10... what a mistake (no offense to anyone... expecially the CM team). I know it is still in development but my experience was not good at all. I spent a whole 3 hours or so trying to figure out a way to make it work but nothing... it was not usable. I blamed the lag on the no datadata that the CM10 uses... so... back to an ICS rom. CM9 which uses datadata was wonderful... and stable... but reading through the LANight threads... I had to try. so with a lot of hesitation, I loaded the no datadata version... and I was so surprised!!! compared to CM10 and other roms with datadata fixes... it was flying!
Until I realized it's limitations that is... Like I said on the other thread, it seems that eventhough you start out with a larger partition, the fact that now everything is stored here (app & data) Vs. just the passing by data on datadata roms, it sort of defeats the purpose of having the larger space.
Anyway, I still am not dissapointed at the rom. I think the dev has done a fantastic job! It's just since not having datadata doesn't offer any greater freedom to load apps on these devices, I think I will keep this for a while and maybe try LANight's datadata rom. Because this one, flies in comparison to CM10... (but I notice some minor lag here and there)... I think if this one is this good, I have hopes that the datadata version would be even smoother...
Please let me know if this assumption is accurate...
Running aokp kang build 4 with Nova launcher no problems getting it installed using their guides.

The new MonfroAOSP is equally as impressive. I've used both extensively and can vouch for either

Using slimbean and it's much faster than helly

I am using CM10 Nightly. When I first flashed it, it was real laggy. But I just reflashed it, and it works really well. Very fast, and as far as I can tell, its very stable. Maybe try flashing CM10 twice ? That's what worked for me anyway.
Any CM10 based ROM post about 9/13 has become SUPER fast, and just recently this last week all of them started using the LV setup for /data allowing about 3 times as much space for data with no sacrifice in snappiness.
very impressive. IMO the Captivate with these roms runs faster than a stock SGS 2, with touchwiz cluttering crap up.
i am newly using slimbean and like it alot except for a camera issue. (where is it) ucam for now. i tired jellyui miui awhile back but despite the beautiful black sexiness it was laggy for me. I am curious why there is so many different experiences with similar setups around here. same fone same rom different battery life... etc etc...

Exactly my thoughts. Helly lagged on my cappy but Slimbean really is impressive.
LLanight v6.5 DD
Im in the edge of switching from CM9 to some JB Rom, But Im still a bit insecure about it, cause I like stable versions, This phone is the only one I have, and I don't like to be dealing with bugs and major issues, So Can anyone really using this phone with Helly Bean or Slimbean, tell me how stable is? BTW This Roms are official stable versions? or they are still at testing level?
Slim bean . Awesome ROM and so far quite stable. No guarantee tho.

I haven't tried the recent helly's but i can confirm slim bean and lanight are both super snappy. Lanight has less features and just like every other ROM I've flashed since 2010 is buggy but has workarounds.
Use AceofSpades90's X-bean port in my opinion its better than his LANight Rom. Now im just waiting for v2 to come out Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863927

Thanks for the suggestion, and yeah, I've been reading a lot of good things about that ROM, of course some people with issues too... I'm not that expert about flashing roms yet, but I suppose while I keep my nandroid backups I can go back if I screw something up, thanks to Odin too...
I can't post in SlimBean Post because of my few posts (Just entering to this new world of Captivate and Flashing), and I read something about the need to flash a Modem for SlimBean, or that, SlimBean takes the modem of the current rom you are using, and since I'm using CM9, Will I need to flash a modem or SlimBean should automatically use the one I have now? I don't even know what modem I'm using :S
I hope not to bother you guys, and Thanks in advance!
Helly Bean has been a real trooper for me. I've updated it to nearly every version that has come out.

Meh, just download the ROM from the thread, follow the instructions. Modems can be downloaded herehttp://soggycashew.weebly.com/cm7miui--ics-modems.html. Just flash the modem after you flash the ROM of your choice. Let the ROM load and then in recovery, flash modem like you would a ROM or a kernel. Profit from jb goodness. Personally, I'm diggin the AOSP ROM's ATM because of the speeeeeeed

Slim bean spontaneously reboots into recovery
Hi, I wish I could ask about this in the developer's thread, but I have no rights there. So, maybe some can shed some light: I installed Slim Bean 2.6 a few days ago, doing Heimdall to stock and using CM10 as a stopgap rom to get bootloaders. Everything installed fine and works great except one thing: the phone spontaneously reboots into recovery. Sometimes once a day, sometimes twice an hour. It is a problem because one in recovery it just sits there, eats battery and waits for me, so if the phone is in the pocket, I am missing calls, emails and etc. Any suggestions where I could dig a bit to find the cause?
Hello, I decided to write this thread, your opinions in addition to knowledge and experience, I serve as a guideline for deciding on a particular ROM, I'm now with P3110XWBLH3 rooted, and what I want more than anything is overclocked, smoothness and stability, which is something ^ ^
Will include the following, as I see it is notably more:
Stock ICS 4.0.4
CM9
CM10
AOKP
If anyone suggests otherwise, of course included.
I hope your opinions.
Thank you.
I'm now on AOKP Build 4 and like it! But remember - if you need Samsung Apps you have to stay on a stock ROM...
IMHO it is Stock 4.0.4:
- Keyboard, Mouse and Bluetooth headset worked without any additional steps
- TouchWiz is really faster and no lagging when using it
- Good working time (For me battery enough approx two days)
- Nice small apps available all the time fand no matter what application or game launched (Splanner, task manager, calc)

You kidding me lol ? :silly:
AKOP Build 4 , blows any ROM out of the water. Read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892049
Obvviously it progresses through the various builds, but you will see it get better and better as the thread goeson . The problem with asking about ROMs is that its down to personal opinion , Such as myself and Ailir; disagree , but dose not mean that either of us are right or wrong. The best thing to do is to flash them all and find one that works for you.
There is no "best ROM" , its all down to personal needs.....BUT JellyBean is a better option , no matter the what the ROM , be it a custom build or stock.
My 2 cents, not worth much but you did ask lol
AOKP кeview the best .. but I have a СM10, he likes me more ...

I agree...I love AOKP, and build 4 just keeps getting better, especially with the Over Clock Kernal. But it is really preference. For a long time I was pure CM, but after I gave AOKP a try I could never go back, just isn't the same.
Good Luck
Aokp build 4 then cm10 latest nightly

Nope not much you can do as they are a Samsung Stock exclusive and made to work on Stock ROMs. Its a pity as I really like some of the stock apps. Love the music/video player. I have been trying to fiddle with them for ages , cant get them signed or installed.
Installed cm10.1 with Dohllmen Kernel and works fine!
I've spent a long time using various versions of Cyanogenmod, but I always end up going back to stock sony, because it's just so much faster.
On Cyanogen, I'd sometimes have to wait a good 10-20 second after my phone starts ringing before it starts responding enough for me to answer.
I love all the nice UI stuff that lolipop brings to the table, and being able to install newer apps that no longer support Jellybean is also great, but it seems like this old phone is just not strong enough for it. Anybody have any advice?
I too would like to know which is the fastest and litest mod out there?! I don't care if they have to get rid of some visuals and animations or some features to speed things up or to lighten things.
All I care about is that it should be fast, lite and battery friendly. If I want some more features or visuals, I would get it from play store!

I'm using SlimLP for now and I can say that it is great. It is really fast, never laggs and you have enough memory space for many apps! Just try it and you will see the difference. And the best thing is that @CodeZero regular updates the ROM so we have the latest security patches and ROM features. I hope that I could help you

What about the battery bro , I read that CM12.1 and every ROM that it's built on it has battery drain .
For me I'm running an old copy of CM12 it's working like sharp no lagging enough space and the best thing awesome battery.

I tried cm11 recently and it surprised me. Smooth( best experience I ever had) , nice UI, 1.42 gb of internel storage(cm12.1 has 1.2 gb). But it has an ANNOYING bug that made me say hello to cm12.1 : if you turn the screen off and turn it back on right after that, it takes like 10 seconds to turn on. I wish there was a kitkat aosp project for XL that is still being developed or had some stable builds. The latest build of cm11 on CM download page cannot detect sim card and has some wifi problems
Try it :

I'm using rom cm12 nightly 20160227.
No problem . faster and smoothness. OTA updata. Battery pin.
Rom amzing for everyday use.
