Please help.. Softbricked nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys please help. A friend has soft bricked his nexus 5. He wiped everything and can't flash any rom using twrp as there is no rom file in the phone. We don't know how to move the cyanogenmod rom.zip on the phone. Adb push through fastboot doesn't seem to work, and when we use the adb sideload from twrp, the rom is moved on phone but not automatically installed. What are we doing wrong? Appreciate your help.
P.s. We have access to fastboot and recovery obviously, but phone has no rom to boot and gets stuck in Google screen.

I have had problems with adb push using TWRP from a long time (before my nexus as well). Try using PhilzTouch and use the adb commands to sideload or push the zip. I'm sure it will work.
PhilzTouch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565174
Besides that, you could even try using a OTG cable to transfer the ROM in recovery

Yes, probably it was just a bad download. Always confirm the md5 before flashing. Make sure you're downloading the correct cm zip for hammerhead!

If you. still have problems flashing. This could be the case where you need to go to Mount menu on TWRP and make sure System is not cheched

Still getting error... With good zip. Also getting error supersu not installed from time to time... Any ideas? System not checked.. Only data and cache are.

You're using the latest TWRP? Try Philz Touch recovery (Download link in previous posts). No idea what's the supersu error you're getting.
Wipe everything... Factory reset/cache/dalvic and then flash the rom zip (Although it has nothing to do with the error)...

What he points you to is to return to stock and start over again unlocking and flashing. recovery. It is recommended, but the problem could be just twrp as well as the very Rom you are installing. Try another recovery, another Rom. If not luck, then return to stock

Not fubar yet buddy. Get into fastboot and proceed from there. A quick search should provide ample answers. Give me 5 and I'll write you a step by step if need be.

Same things been happening to me all day trying to get it to load but it is always stuck on a loop on the load screen.
To get out from it ive been disconnecting from computer and holding power off, the cyanogenmod will auto start FOR SOME REASON but just keep powering off till its dead then start up recovery wipe cache/data etc and restore your backup.

That link works, thanks. Don't know why I didn't see it in my search. Following steps....
argh, driver issue now. Installed the updated USB drivers from the SDK but when I'm in CWM recovery mode I had a banged out device. Had to install the naked drivers... Boy, this is fun. :silly:
Tried every build available aswell tried both manual root/Su and CF Auto root but no combination will it load, will also do a system restore on my main rig after messing around with all the random driver installations.
Try it on a spare laptop, you never know, might get lucky.
I did notice on the log file in CWM after installation there are 2 file that cannot be installed, I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not, looks like some sort of addon folder that cant be located. Only other thing I can think of is using a more stable version of CWM.
Try twrp and see if you have the same issues. http://d-h.st/YpG. Just flash it in cwm.
If all else fails, flash a factory system image and then format /data and the cache partitions.
This will get your device working while you learn more about how to flash it, and recover it if necessary.

Question about Cyanogenmod 11

Hello guys,
I've been looking around for CM11 for my HTC One X+.
Now I've found the original CM11 on their website for HOX+, but there is one little question I got about this.
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=enrc2b
That's the link where I've found it by the way.
There is no boot.img download, how safe is it to just install the ROM? In my opinion it isn't.
So let me know what you guys think.

Its on the official website, and It should work. Make a backup though.
The boot.img download isn't there because the boot.img is probably inside the .zip.
So open the zip and you'll have your boot.img.

Oh okay, you will need to flash the boot.img alone then as flashing the ROM zip won't just work. So boot into bootloader, and flash the new boot.img you had extracted from the .zip
Once yo uhave flashed the .img boot into recovery mode and perform a gull wipe, including cache. Once done simply flash the zip and reboot.
First reboot takes a bit so be patient. I also recommend you getting a band backup in case.

If you're coming from a Sense ROM you can't just flash the zip without flashing the boot.img. It wouldn't even boot. And sometimes it boots but without mobile signal or WiFi signal.
So just place the zip on your sdcard, take the boot.img out of the zip on your computer.. Then boot into bootloader and connect it to the computer using USB then type
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Then "fastboot erase cache"
(you must have fastboot installed and configured on your computer)
Then boot into recovery and flash the zip file and gapps. Oh don't forget a wipe is mandatory if you're coming from sense ROM. But if you're coming from an AOSP ROM it's recommended but you can go without wiping. I flashed cyanogen over paranoid android without wiping data and had no issues at all. But I wiped the system partition.
And you cannot S-OFF an HTC One X+.. If it's S-ON then it stays that way. Only a few amount of people have S-OFF on their HOX+.
Oh and I don't think TWRP recovery is compatible with CM11 on HOX+.. So I recommend you flash philz recovery. Flash it by using the fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
(recovery.img should be replaced with the name of the recovery you downloaded)
It doesn't take a lot of time. I change ROMs almost every week.
Please press the thanks button if I helped!

Hey welcome to xda and the ONEPlus forum. Just so you know this is a place where you should do as much troubleshooting prior to posting. Now questions:
1. have you checked the md5 to make sure it matches the zip file (Google it)
2. are you sure the file you downloaded is not corrupted
3. have you tried to open up the zip file on a pc to see if there are any issues
4. have you tried to download the file again and make another attempt
5. have you tried to download other files and flash it to pinpoint issue.
Android is great but dont play around with a phone that you will have to wait for another invite if you are unsure of what you are doing. I am saying this as someone trying to help you and not flame you....
Try the above any issues let me know

google md5 checker and then go back to where you got the file and check what the md5 number is. Got to google this stuff my friend. but why dont you just download the file again. All the info you need is out there but you got to get your hands dirty and search and learn about them. Its only going to help you in the long run :good:

go to advanced wipe and simply check system, dalvik cache and cache. Nice clean wipe of system folder will always help. Remember you will have to flash gapps again as well(if necessary)
Full stock CM11S rom no need to worry about gapps
I had same issue I fixed it like this: after I pushed the cm11 zip from PC to phone using cmd, I didn't just go ahead and installed it. Instead i disconnect the phone did a reboot back into the twrp recovery, AND THEN installed the cm11 zip. That worked for me and no errors.
