[Q] Fubar'd trying to load CM11 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to load CM11 M1 and now in a boot loop. Haven't been able to copy the new image over yet. Unable to get into recovery mode, just the stock 'four circles' spinning. Can anyone help? Thanks

Can you get to Fastboot?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

Not fubar yet buddy. Get into fastboot and proceed from there. A quick search should provide ample answers. Give me 5 and I'll write you a step by step if need be.
On my phone. Limited with links and all.

Same things been happening to me all day trying to get it to load but it is always stuck on a loop on the load screen.
To get out from it ive been disconnecting from computer and holding power off, the cyanogenmod will auto start FOR SOME REASON but just keep powering off till its dead then start up recovery wipe cache/data etc and restore your backup.

There's another thread on this same issue
Edit, links all wonky

That link works, thanks. Don't know why I didn't see it in my search. Following steps....

argh, driver issue now. Installed the updated USB drivers from the SDK but when I'm in CWM recovery mode I had a banged out device. Had to install the naked drivers... Boy, this is fun. :silly:

Tried every build available aswell tried both manual root/Su and CF Auto root but no combination will it load, will also do a system restore on my main rig after messing around with all the random driver installations.
Try it on a spare laptop, you never know, might get lucky.
I did notice on the log file in CWM after installation there are 2 file that cannot be installed, I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not, looks like some sort of addon folder that cant be located. Only other thing I can think of is using a more stable version of CWM.

Try twrp and see if you have the same issues. http://d-h.st/YpG. Just flash it in cwm.

If all else fails, flash a factory system image and then format /data and the cache partitions.
This will get your device working while you learn more about how to flash it, and recover it if necessary.

You flash the stock image, try extract the files and execute the flash-all batch file.

When I try to flash CWM, I get a signature verification fail error. I replaced the recovery binary but it still won't work.

The link is working again. It looks like that kernel needs adb to access recovery, which I haven't been able to get to work. Do you have any other ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.
Hey. Thanks for the quick reply.
I am currently on Froyo, Kernal version 2.6.32.9.

Weird. All you should have to do is put the updated recovery in /system/bin & put the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
What is the current state of the phone? I know in the previous post you said you would have to use ODIN to recover. Did you do that?
Yes I did use Odin to recover. I did it following the link provided in the sgs4g 10 commandments. This is the second time I recovered. After I recovered he first time, I tried the process again and the same thing happened: stuck at the initial splash screen.

Just wondering if your phone is currently working or not. I wasn't sure given that you reflashed with ODIN.
Yes everything is fine right now. Lucky all of my settings and apps were still there after following that tutorial.

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
If you try it again then reboot into recovery, what happens?

[Q] 2.20 Unlocked, bootloop after unable to flash + attempt to restore

Okay, so I used the xfactor bootloader unlock and flashed TWRP. I got into my stock, installed SuperSU and everything was dandy. I wiped system, flashed AOKP and then flashed the AOKP boot image through the fastboot boot.img. I rebooted and no luck, I got stuck on the 'initializing swagger' page. Bummer. I then went and wiped, and then tried to flash the recent CM10, perhaps not a good idea, anyway I got onto the cm10 boot screen but that stayed that way too. So I went back and restored, after wiping system and cache, from the nandroid backup I made. When I boot into it now it shows me the splash screen, then shuts down and starts back up again. Anyway, for the life of me I can't figure out what to do, I have even more problems because I'm on a mac. I have VMware on my computer though I don't have the android-sdk on there. So what do you folks suggest I do?
Okay, your help is very much appreciated.
Reading directions correctly is key.
first flashboot boot.img, THEN go into recovery and flash the rom.
Go to the android dev or general forum and look around, there are a few splash tuts. I'd look for you but I'm currently trying to look around for my problem.

When? I did before flashing boot.img. I don't think I cleared dalvik though.
Regardless, did a system reset and then flashed boot and installed cm10 and gapps and I'm once again on the htc splash screen.
Honestly though, I just really need to figure out how to get back to something usable... since restore from nandroid is also giving me a splash, what should I do?
Go into recovery and wipe all caches, then reboot. You may end up having a corruption somewhere in which case you'll need to find your device specific RUU and run it.

Looks like it, I'm once again in a boot loop. Anyway to run an RUU through mac without virtualizing? Will I need drivers or anything if I do it with the virtual machine?
Once again... This is why I don't like anything apple... You might find a file converter that's able to convert .exe to .dmg. I haven't used or worked with VM so I wouldn't know how to work that.
Download.com
Search there and you should be able to find a converter.

Actually I have tried to run RUU through wine in the past with no success I was able to start the .exe but it did not flash I was able to extract radios, etc though. I haven't updated Wine a while so it might be worth a try ?
Another "free" option is to vm with virtual box http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html and install Windows.

I'm actually going todo this and then write up a guide how to RUU on linux/mac w/o virtualizing windows
Flashing the Rom.zip, or running the ruu.exe will always produce the same results, they go thru the exact same process. Flashing the Rom.zip just let's you see what's happening in a little more detail..........while flashing the Rom.zip, if you open a 2nd cmd prompt and send a random fastboot command, you can then see full detail, of EXACTLY what's happening.

Okay, I used VMware and ran the RUU, I got the HTC screen but it never gave the progress bar and ended up doing absolutely nothing, I still have the same recovery and everything. So I'm trying to extract the RUU installer, with WinRAR but it's saying there's no archive, how should I do this? I'm not too familiar with the inner workings of windows.

download htc sync on your virtual machine and do it again
or.. when you run the RUU..
go to start and type %temp% and then search for rom.zip
and drag that to your desktop
you gotta do it while the RUU is open, and before it closes

[Q] HTC One X (AT&T) Won't Turn on

Hi,
I am new to rooting the device. I rooted HTC One X (AT&T) using toolkit by Hasoon2000. I followed all the steps as per my knowledge. Everything went good rooting the device, But when I tried to flash CM 10.1 it was giving me failure error. When I did second time it gave me same error but somehow I thought ROM got flashed and went ahead and flashed kernel. While doing so my cell phone battery was till 50% but once I flashed kernel. Suddenly screen went blank and couldn't turn it on. When try to go into fastboot mode it lights up red led and once and stays there until I hit the power button. After hitting power button it shows the HTC logo and displays the message below logo about device being used for development. then within a second screen gets turned off (no red LED) I tried to keep for charging for at least an hour or so with computer as well as on AC power but results are same. Neither I am able to connect it to computer or charge it. I don;t know what is going on with my device. So please can someone help me with this issue? I would really appreciate if this issue been resolved.

Please help.. Softbricked nexus 5

Guys please help. A friend has soft bricked his nexus 5. He wiped everything and can't flash any rom using twrp as there is no rom file in the phone. I have had problems with adb push using TWRP from a long time (before my nexus as well). Try using PhilzTouch and use the adb commands to sideload or push the zip. I'm sure it will work.

Besides that, you could even try using a OTG cable to transfer the ROM in recovery

P.s. We have access to fastboot and recovery obviously, but phone has no rom to boot and gets stuck in Google screen.

Or you can just try adb push.
adb push rom.zip /sdcard
and flash it

Yes, probably it was just a bad download. Always confirm the md5 before flashing. Make sure you're downloading the correct cm zip for hammerhead!

If you. still have problems flashing. This could be the case where you need to go to Mount menu on TWRP and make sure System is not cheched
Still getting error... With good zip. Also getting error supersu not installed from time to time... Any ideas? System not checked.. Only data and cache are.

You're using the latest TWRP? Try Philz Touch recovery (Download link in previous posts). No idea what's the supersu error you're getting.
Wipe everything... Factory reset/cache/dalvic and then flash the rom zip (Although it has nothing to do with the error)...

What he points you to is to return to stock and start over again unlocking and flashing. recovery. It is recommended, but the problem could be just twrp as well as the very Rom you are installing. Try another recovery, another Rom. If not luck, then return to stock

[Q] So about 4.4.3 update with root, unlocked bootloader and tampered system apps...

I have a Nexus 5 that has been rooted, unlocked bootloader and I deleted some of the system apps (cant's remember which). I received the OTA update for the 4.4.3 update few says back. Clicked the update, after the download process went through, the phone restarted to install. But then my phone just went dead, it popped up a dead android with the word "error" underneath it x-P.
I know the problem has to do with me uninstalling system apps so is there anyway for me to update to 4.4.3 without wiping my data, if not, I have no problem doing it anyway (nothing too important on my nexus...) Thanks.
Download the factory images of 4.4.3 and flash system, bootloader, recovery and radio.. Doing so will not wipe your data!

Put your phone in bootloader mode and flash the 4.4.3 system img you'll be fine:good:
Download the factory image and flash boot.img, cache.img and system.img, and the new radios.
I would recommend a wipe and do it fresh, but it's up to you.
Edit: 3 replies in the same minute, derp.
Just do this

Uhh, that went way over my head, maybe a dumb question but how does one flash img on a android phone? Sorry, I'm still a noob when it comes to these things. (is there a way to do it on a linux computer?)

You'll need fastboot setup on your computer. Once you have is setup just go to the link I posted. You just need to double click on the flash-all

The flash-all.bat/flash-all.sh wipes if I'm not mistaken.
To the OP:
Download the Android SDK and set up fastboot, there are stickied threads for it in the General Section.
Download the factory images and take out boot.img, cache.img and system.img (inside a .zip inside the already compressed file), as well as the radio-hammerhead-m8974a-2.0.50.1.13.img. put them in fastboot directory
Open a cmd prompt in fastboot directory and type (pressing enter after each line, wait for each individual one to complete):
cmd said:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash radio radio-hammerhead-m8974a-2.0.50.1.13.img

It might be slightly different on a Linux computer but it should be in the stickies, or search

Oh, I missed the link. :silly:
No offense to you nor your thread, but it would be better if he gains some knowledge of fastboot/adb.. You know, the usual.

One more question before I do this. I do have to put the supersu zip file in my phone and then flash it after I'm done flashing the factory img, correct?

Yes. because you'll lose root after flashing the factory images.
Cool, it worked! Now I have to re-root. Thanks a lot for the amazingly quick reply!
