[help][bootanimation] - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I have a problem with my boot animation... I can't install a new one!!! I run PA Beta 2 and everything is the same as I normally do it.
The 644 permission does bit work and the current set up forces phone into standard android logo with little flashes!
Please help me!
Thanks in advance

Hi,
The permissions should be:

Make sure you zipped it in "storage only" too!

The permission like that makes me have no bootanimation at all!!!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

Mine are set up -rw--r--r too so you maybe made it wrong
Is it a bootanimation you picked on the Web or is it self made ?
Your txt file has to be like this on stock
1080 230 24

p 0 0 part1
It has to be built following these guidelines http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560836

Are you sure, because that'd what I originally thought but I've tried replacing that via root explorer with a modded one but out hasn't worked?

Thanks for the location, now since I have it and gonna do up my own bootscreen how do I go about pushing it back to my phone?
I think I found out how.
Remount the system partition read-write: adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Push the file across to your device: adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
At least something to try when i get it done.

I have been using Droid Explorer (free program for your computer) to do this stuff and it seems to work well. Most people seem to use Root Explorer (paid app) on most of the Boot Screen threads.
Has anyone got any boot screens to share? Or show off?

I have one I'm working on all it is is the one file but haven't figured out the desc.txt file to get it right just yet all I get right now is a black screen after the Sony Ericsson screen. After I get it figured out I'll be dropping more bootscreens for everyone.
cool

I have an animation of a fine lady lifting her top as my bootanimation. Found these desc.txt info somewhere in XDA forum.
480 854 = (W x H) Animation size
12 = fps
p = pointer (don't change)
1 = no. of times to play, 0= loop
ani1, ani2, ani3 = folder containing png files (animation)
24 = freeze on last frame in each folder (fps)
Hope that helps..
desc.txt is used by the phone for timing purposes i think.
I used root explorer to import my boot animation, its very easy.
Custom bootlogo jerpelea used this in his custom 2.1
Works also on Se 2.1 just overwrite the bootanimation.zip (located /system/media) with this one

[BOOTANIMATION] 4 versions up! UNCROPPED DroidDance, and ApplePiss /w droiddance loop

Figured id post these..
Had the Droid Dance LWP way back, and ofc ddnt support HDPI
Figured id be able to find a decent bootanim of it but that was harder than anticipated
Closest i got was an HDPI cropped version that didnt look great..
So with just a lil photoshop cs5 i stretched it to sorta uncrop it.
Also packaged with applepiss bootanim as looping, couldnt stand the black screen on long loads, just needs to b blurred abit in spots to be 100% xD this is 5min of fun here.
Im including 4 varients il upload the 3 missing when i reinstall dropbox xD not near a PC and not much i can upload to from my phone xD
4 im gonna upload are:
DroidDance Looping bootscreen *UPLOADED somewhat, read notes
DroidDance Looping bootscreen BRANDED (sII X logo) *uploaded
ApplePiss /DroidDance Looping
ApplePiss/DroidDance Looping BRANDED
Unbranded, as loop for ApplePiss (google it.. been ported 1000x, few by myself..)
http://db.tt/LuEebe81
Branded same thing
http://db.tt/LZKpOfxP
Uploaded better screenshots to dropbox xD cant remember pass to photobucket..
For those like me who couldnt see the screens
http://db.tt/ClE73Lqq
http://db.tt/LAC2BLm4
http://db.tt/zfANeU3k
****NOTE PLZ READ
iff the uncropped/unbranded doesnt work, unzip and rezip as "store" or use 7za.exe, and use this script with bootanimation.zip and 7za in same folder:
Save below as whatever.bat in same folder as 7za
@echo off # (just because showing directory is more annoying)
7Za -x bootanimation.zip out
Ren bootanimation.zip bootanimation.bak
Cd out
..\7Za -a -tzip -mx0 ..\bootanimation.zip *
Cd..
del /q /f /s out\*
rd /s out
Echo.
Echo.
Echo Done
Pause
I had to compress from my phone xD cant do store archives lowest is 3 i believe..
Il recompress from pc later and update the post sorry for the hassle
Great work! I'll check it out

Use root explorer and move to /system/media
Set permissions rw-r--r-- (644)
Reboot, id repack the non-branded one though xD might not load
I'm on a skyrocket do I move it to sytem/media also? If so is that all I need to do. Or is it flashable for skyrocket? Thanks bro

Move to system/media and make sure permissions are set, theirs guides all over the forum, its just like any other bootscreen
Ok I have it where it needs to be. Now I'm going to ask this. You guys can ***** at me if you want but I've been married 31 years so I'm immune. How do I make this the go to bootanimation
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Use root explorer, hold the icon, hit set permissions and change to:
rwx
r--
r--
Your rom might use /data/local aswell, you need kernel that supports it aswell
Looks nice. Can i try this on t989?

[Q] Boot animations

Can anybody direct my to a good thread on how to use jrummy's boot animation app? Or a good thread on changing boot animations period? Thanks everyone.
Changing boot animations is easy
1) Get a root explorer app (es file explorer is free and you can enable root under settings)
2) download boot animation
3) paste it in /system/media using the root explorer
4) make sure the name matches the previous one
5) make sure the permissions are rw, r, r
6) reboot and enjoy

Thanks much. So there isn't an app that will do this?

So in step 4 do I make sure it has the exact same name as the previous or just the same suffix? And how do I change permissions on it?

trey...you have to read the advice given.
read mg's instruction again.
review this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437548
there is a lot of info there...may need to read it several times
I've read and applied all the steps as written but still am just getting the Samsung then nothing where the at&t bootanim used to be..
Be Real or Don't Be
Permissions are typically RW,R,R aka Read Write, Read, Read
most ROMs have the animation named as bootanimation.zip, but some are sanim.zip
Also...many people have difficulty changing animations on rooted stock...I suspect it has something to do with the kernel
Lastly...idk about any apps that can change the boot animation for you...but they probably do exist...
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Mg.. You are correct. The stock kernel does not run the service that plays these boot animations.

Boot animation

How to change boot animation?
I'm using CM10
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda app-developers app
Google Play
Plenty of options on the play store like the one above ...search for boot animation changers. Will let you download/install. You will need root but if you're on CM10 , wont be a problem,
Sorry OOT but i really need help.
Just flashed the rom, and finally, 4.2 on my device. Thanks for this great rom...
But i have a problem with accepting call when the screen is off. I can only hear the ringtone but i can't see anything. The screen is just still black.. Please help...
Everything works fine except that one.. Thank you.
Sent from my GT-P3100 using xda premium
You can change bootanimation in cm10 when you go with root explorrer to system\media
There u can see an file "bootanimation.zip" repleace the file with your bootanimation file
Important the file must be named "bootanimation.zip" or your bootanim wont work
At last set premissions to rw-r--r--

[Framework.jar][ParanoidAndroid 3.60]Increase your Wifi Signal

EDIT OPS MAYBE THIS THREAD CAN BE MOVED TO GENERAL SECTION.
Hey guys,
browsing on the net on how to increase wifi signal I got into this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711603
Here is a modded framework.jar of Woh's Rom.
It's working on 3.60 don't know on the other VERSION OF PARANOID.
It increased my range of about 5-7 metres, it may change or don't work for you at all.
Steps by Me :
Step 1 :
Using a root file manager, navigate to /proc and copy the Calibration file to /system/etc
set permission for the file as -rw-r-r
Step 2 :
Download and flash this zip
(http://www.mediafire.com/?1zz8lpkuu44k55o)
Step 3 :
Go to system/etc open the calibration file and add this line at the end of the file
rssi_offset=20
(my framework.jar has 20 as value)
Step 4 :
Now download the framework.jar file attached and replace it in system/framework
and set permission as :
owner v v
group v
others v
Step 5 :
Reboot
ATTENTION : Overwriting your framework.jar could cause your phone not to boot. Just use adb to restore your old framework.jar or just do a fresh install of the rom.
Here is the modded framework.jar AND IT'S NOT WORKING ON ANY ROM. I just shared this beacause it's quite annoying to follow the enteire guide.
All credits goes to :
Woh

How to install "framework.jar" ?
Replace it in/ system/ framework.
You have to follow the guide, I just uploaded the "already modded" framework.jar
I changed the Steps to make it as easy as possible. Read it.

Usually, the framework.apk defers from rom to rom.
The apk you provided should only be used with the rom you took it from.
There's something like [PARANOIDANDROID 3.60]
in the title. Just a stupid could use this on other ROMs.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
May you same modify my framework if I upload it here?
I followed the procedure and used the provided jar file, but now my device is showing errors that Fused Location has stopped, followed by an error that the process com.google.process.location has stopped.
I'm re-applying the origional ROM now.
It happened to me too, just on first boot...!

I totally agree. Why not place this in the comments, or PM WoH_ to add this in his ROM?
It's a workaround, woh as manteiner can't change files in the source or his build would become a modded version... If I'm not wrong.

Hi, I think you committ a mistake in Step 3 because a good value for "rssi_offset" is 20 but you have to remember to add - symbol before the number, so the correct command is rssi_offset=-20
Best.
