Not connecting to computer....HELP! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried just about everything! But no matter what I do my nexus 5 just won't connect to my computer to view the SD card for adb nothing!! Could this be because I'm running art instead a dalvik? Last I remember it worked just fine went I was running dalvik.

Do you have the correct drivers installed correctly? Usb debugging enabled? Tried another usb port? Rebooted the phone? Are you rooted, stock or custom rom/kernel

Yes, yes and yes!

Uninstall all N5 drivers and uninstall the device from device manager. Dis- and reconnect the phone to the pc and manualy choose to install the drivers from android-sdk/extra/google/usb_driver. That should do it, works fine for me.

Alright let me try that real quick

I just don't get it, I've tried uninstall/reinstall the drivers (current) plus reboots and also multiple usb ports plus turned off all security on my pc just incase with no luck so WHAT IS GOING ON!!?:crying:

Well... google knows almost everything
... But.. ."not connecting" isnt really much info to go on. Try to explain a bit better what happens and whats not.
It keeps flashing the 'USB Debugging Connected' than sometimes the pop up comes up on phone to allow 'Charge Mode/Disk Drive' but not always and my computer (Win7) tries to install the driver, it just keeps saying not connected when open HTC Sync and yes have tried all USB ports and uninstalled drivers also under 'Device Manager' there are no exclamation marks anywhere

Ya I wish I didn't game or I wouldn't even be using it. And I think he said he only got one the pc to try on but would be nice if a friend helped out to see if it his pc or the phone.
Wow, I have the same problem, except I'm running Ubuntu on my PC.

Worst part is that I'm making an app. I can't do this if it keeps disconnecting every half second!
I'm having a similar issue although I'm running Mac. Im running stock HTC rom and have just installed the update. When I plug the USB cable in I no longer get any connection options. HTC Sync can see my phone but I can't access the phone storage from my Mac anymore....Am I completely missing something or is anyone else having similar issues?

You did not read my OP right cuz I said all that in it so next please also I have 'Googled' everything and tried everything they say so any other thoughts, just want to get connected so I can flash ROMs once rooted?
Anyone, please any ideas other than those posted and please read before posting something I've already done?
Thanks
Well, its hard to go further... Try a different cable and a different PC. If it doesnt work with that either its your phone thats fuked up, if it works its your PC.
When you know which is the culprit we can move forward and try to solve it.

Agreed need another pc to test with.
Go to recovery on phone and it should then be recognized by pc...preferably use twrp for recovery. From there you can even mount usb to move Roms to you sd.

Not rooted yet because of this issue so I found one thing that might work and will try later when home and that is what I found on Google after days of searching, restart the computer whole phone is shutdown and than turn on phone as computer boots up and see if it will than recognize the phone (crossing fingers)

Boot into bootloader and see if it's recognized by your computer. If it does then it's a Rom issue and you can factory reset from bootloader... (volume down + power) while phone is turned off

Not being seen by pc... Kinda? - SOLVED

I've unlocked, rooted and flashed linaro kernel. So my phone does/has been recognised fine by my pc.
But when I plugged it in earlier for mtp mode the phone recognised being plugged in but the pc didn't? If i switched it to camera mode the pc then recognised. But then switching it back and still nothing? Any ideas?

Goto Devices and Printers and see if Nexus 5 is there. Sometimes it has a yellow triangle on it. If so right mouse and troubleshoot.
This happened to me too. This is what I did to fix it. I was on windows 8 btw. I used wugfresh's toolkit to manually install raw drivers. If you do use windows just follow the instructions on steps to install them. You may use Mac or Ubuntu for I know lol. In that case I would search for those tookits. They may have similar method of driver installations. I used the composite driver that came with the toolkit and it worked right after installation. I even unlocked my bootloader in the process too so adb and fastboot worked too. good luck.

Alot of times you can right mouse the device and troubleshoot. It will put the drivers back in. Another way is to delete that device and reboot. When you plug your phone into the usb it should load drivers.

I'm using the PDA.net drivers included with the Nexus Root Toolkit. The Universal drivers didn't work for me (Windows 7 pro x64bit). I also had to toggle the USB Debugging.

Settings/storage. Choose 3dot menu. Also, have you used USBDeview http://www.tomsguide.com/us/download/USBDeview,0301-13254.html to be sure all Android USB drivers have been removed?

In case you didn't understand the above.
Settings > Storage then click on the menu (3 dots on upper right screen corner) and USB computer connection. voila, you are now in the USB connection settings and can enable MTP/PTP again.

Phone connected as media device isn't recognized

Hi, I got a Nexus 5 but I can't connect to my PC trough USB debugging mode as MTP device only PTP works and in this mode I can't copy files. Drivers are installed since I have a Google Galaxy Nexus too and it works fine. What can I do to fix this? Any advice?

The first thing you need to do is install fastboot and adb on your pc. Google 15 second adb install xda.
Then download the twrp image from here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead. Rename it twrp for simplicity.
When you get that done go into the folder where twrp is and in an open area in that folder shift, right click. A drop down box should open and you can open a command window here.
Boot your derive into the bootloader, connect it to your pc and in that command window type
fastboot boot twrp.img
That'll boot you into twrp.
Once in twrp go to into mount and make sure mtp is enabled. Then it should be as easy a copy and paste from your device to your pc.

It's not making a backup per say, You're just copying the files to your pc. You'll have to copy them back to your device once you get it sorted out
