What are you saying exactly that you are unable to get Google Now? Have you long-pressed the homescreen, thentouch settings and then click Google Now Enabled"?

Also, have you tried maybe switching your language to English to see if that worked?

to the best of my knowledge, the active listening component of the "Google Experience Launcher" is not available on any custom third party launchers as of yet. google has not open-sourced their launcher and, for the time being, are keeping it an n5 exclusive.

I personally just set the double tap gesture to voice search. Just as good maybe better.
Thanks, guys. But I found an app that so far does toggle active listening. It's called Open Mic+. It's in the Play Store and it comes in a free and paid version. The paid version honestly doesn't add much more than the free one does. Anyway, the app isn't 100% perfect, but it's good so far.

I assume with open mic+ nature of app battery life would be hit significantly?
I am surprised the moto x assist and always listening app have yet to be ported.

The problem I found with open mic+ is on my stock nexus 5 it was not starting on boot and at random times disappears from the navbar or just stops responding to the keyword even though it is running and shows it's listening. The concept is nice but will have to wait on a more stable implementation. Props to the dev though as he's just in high school and it's well on the way to being a must have app.

Really? This isn't the Moto X. There is no point at which you have to do nothing. You still have to unlock the phone and be at the home screen. Having already unlocked the phone what is a double tap? Besides, I don't particularly like saying okay Google.
Op should add a question mark in the topic.
Done.

This is what I want. We have the extra core, LET IT LISTEN TO US!
Running CM11 beta 7. 4.4 on S3. Tmo.
Google Experience Launcher
Nova Launcher Beta 3
On the S3 the left capacitve "menu" button offers a long press option into Google Now.
Then Google Now is Active: Say "Ok Google"
Or use the standard GEL, and "Ok Google" is active in any home screen.
Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luck.okaygooglenow I'm in the same boat on my AT&T S3. I'll give it a shot and report back.

It's double tap instead of saying ok google. Since you have to have it opened to the homescreen anyway a double tap would be faster. It would be different of course if we had always listening when the screen is off.

While in Google Search click settings and make sure hotword detection is enabled.
If it is and it's still not working... are you on the stock launcher or 3rd party (ie- nova launcher)?
The ok google function only works for the stock GEL.
My N5 does not show the "Say OK Google" text (it did the first few days), but If I actually say the words it does respond.
It looks like it was there just a few days so you knew... Have you just tried to speak to it?

Oh! Now I get you. Well I never rly noticed about that. But yeah it's not showing for me either. I guess it was just a kind of Tutorial. After a couple of times it's gone.
The 'Say OK Google' text disappears after a few uses (they assume you know that you can do it now).
But if you have the service enabled and it isn't detecting the hotwords, then sounds like you have a defective phone.

If the microphone is not fully white, and it's hollow in the inside, then most likely you just opened an app that uses a fair amount of resources.
Weirdly enough for me, once I closed a game like Asphalt, it'll reenable Ok Google, not sure if this is the case for you, but I doubt it has anything to do with hardware, most likely software.

It goes into the normal call screen, but doesn't ring or anything. It just says "Called Ended" It will end the calls even before they are connected. Also when people call me they tell me that it just goes immediately to voice mail, it doesn't even ring on their end. :silly:

This is usually caused by someone forcing LTE ONLY on their device. You cant make calls over LTE so it is looking to switch to 3g/H and it cant. You need to check your settings:
open dialer

[Q] Contacts displaying by nickname. Would like to turn off.

I just switched from a Moto X to the LG G3. First, the screen is fabulous. After that I am losing interest quickly (bloatware galore).
I just spent the better part of an hour troubleshooting why I couldn't edit my existing Google contacts on the phone. Turns out you have to enable displaying of the local "Phone"calendar in the Calendar app. My best guess as to why is because for some reason the phone wants to save Birthday events to the phone calendar. There really is no reason for that.
My current issue. For one reason or another I have nicknames in some of my contacts. I use these nicknames (Such as when I tell Google Now to "Call my Wife") it adds the nickname. I am a little OCD about my contacts so it absolutely kills me that it now moved my wife down to the bottom and filed her under Wife. I see the options to Sort and Display by first or last but I am not finding the option to not display nicknames.
Anybody know of a solution? Thanks in advance.
Dennis

Same problem here - It's driven me nuts - I cannot figure out how to get rid of the Nicknames - Interestingly as an android flashing addict - I have not had this problem "EVER" - I want my nicknames - just not on the phone.
Update on this issue?
Does anyone have any updates on this issue? I just switched from a S4 to the G3 and I really dislike this feature. How can I make it so it doesn't display nicknames?

You shouldn't have to delete the contact completely. You can just edit the existing one and clear the nickname.

I comment because I had the same problem and couldn't find an answer. after flashing most any custom rom I haven't had the issue and I have not changed my contacts. I'm on ROM 855 minus 5 and contacts work as they should.
I tried installing google contact, but no success, looks like problem of OS not the app

Yeah it's working weird yours is not showing up. I just noticed I am having the same issue as you but with a different app. My lockstar is not showing up at all. The goodlock apk or routines apk? You want the routines apk. If that doesn't work idk man maybe someone else will chime in. The only other thing i know to do is the 3rd party launcher activity widget workaround which is kinda a PITA if you don't use a 3rd party launcher but better than nothing.

The shortcut worked, but it is so weird that it's not showing up in good lock. Only in settings after side loading it. I've tried cleaning cache and data of the app. Cleared cache and data of the whole phone in recovery and started on a clean slate without restoring anything through smart switch and didn't even sign into my Samsung account and still nothing. Literally, the only way I was able to schedule my tasks is through a shortcut after side loading the app.
